- Beginner Crochet Lace Made Easy: Lafayette Chic Shawl [Right Handed] uses the 100% washable merino wool yarn, Chic Sheep by Marly Bird™. The lace chevron stitch pattern is a 1 row repeat making it easy to remember and fast to work up.
Get the pattern details over on the blog: marlybird.com/...
This pattern uses beginner basic skills like the chain stitch, and double crochet, and also more advanced stitches like the dc3tog (double crochet three together), and the 2dc-cl (two double crochet cluster) that are used to make up a unique crochet shell stitch.
This shawl pattern is rated for intermediate but with this crochet tutorial and Marly's help, you will be able to make this wonderful shawl for the Spring or winter. It is not too lacy but it does use a crochet lace stitch.
Don't take my word on it, go and watch the video and make your own shawl!

For anyone else who wanted to know this is a16+3 pattern. I need to make this wider.
I wanted to make it not as wide so thank you!
Thanx!!
Thanks for this, I wanted to make narrower!
Thanks very much! The pattern doesn’t specify.
Oh, a poncho is even better! Love wearing them!
When I watch your videos, I always feel like I'm learning something very practical (how to make the specific item you are featuring) but I also feel like I am learning concepts and theory and things that make me a better crocheter overall, not just for that one object.
Thank you for saying so. That is actually my goal. I’m happy you’re learning so much!
not beginner, maybe not quite intermediate, but, not beginner. (I am not a beginner, i am making it and I love it!)

Your videos have inspired me to put down my Knitting needles for a bit and to once again take up crocheting. We really enjoy your videos, you are so good at showing and explaining the stitches and the pattern.
Thanks Marly Bird for the inspiration. 😀
I love this dc cluster stitch. I could do them all day! So beautiful 😍 I want me some of your gorgeous yarn 🧶! I’m a Marly Minion all the way ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I bought 2 skeins of your Chic Sheep yarn at Hobby Lobby last week. I was so excited, it was 30% off! My only regret is that I didnt get more! Just finished a pr of Fair Isle mitts and I am in love with your yarn..soft, squishy and does not split easily. Thank you #MarlyBird

Hello Marly Bird! Thanks so much for this amazing pattern and video. I'm in the middle of using them to make a scarf with three valleys only. I'm using two skeins of Red Heart Unforgettable yarn, the Flowerfield variety, and it is turning out stunning! It's so light and dainty too. Thank you again!!
So beautiful
Love the sweater you’re wearing! I have several of your Chic Sheep yarn skeins.

Hi love the shawl, I shall be making g one, but can you tell where you got your crochet hooks, those handles look lovely and comfortable to crochet with. Tfs 😊
Have you got a pattern for that sweater you're wearing? Love the shawl ❤️
It is not ready yet but soon. Make sure you are a subscriber to my newsletter and you will be one of the first to know: bit.ly/MarlyBirdNewsletter
Yeah I was wondering that myself. I’ll be waiting and watching for it.
@@MarlyBird Me too! Love it 💝😊!
Beautiful shawl but what’s the multiples , if you want to make it wider
Take a look at the pattern and the chart. You will see what the stitch multiple is. My notes say 16 sts +3
Love your sweater. Can we see the pattern?
Luv your tutorials 💞💞
Definitely will make the shawl. Thank you for sharing.
Either it's my computer or yours.. but I'm only seeing your face, not the tutorial.. thanks.. love your videos
That is strange. I just reviewed the tutorial and the hand camera is working.
Linda Gentle ok...I restarted phone...I'm able to watch now.. thanks👍
Thank you for this video. I'm a beginner so this is one I just finished. I do not know how to attach a picture to this message of your shawl I just finished. I will look for a email to send it to you. Many blessings to you. Thank you.
So would the pattern width become longer or there be a hiccup if I added chains? By this I mean instead of chaining 67 could I chain 77 or 87 to make the shawl a bit thicker in width in that sense?
Everyone has pretty much the same idea- love your poncho!! Seriously in love with this shawl though; I tend to prefer this shape over triangle shawls. Every pattern I see is triangle. Refreshing change. Is that hook from Leither Co? I subscribe to their hook box and get completely wood hooks. Haven’t tried the ones available with the metal. How do you like it? You look amazing as always! 😘💕💕💕
I agree with you about the shape of this shawl 💕
Scrumptious! Where can I buy the pattern?
What is the multiples? I want to make my shawl wider. Also I was confused at where to put my final half cluster after row 2.
Is there a way to make this wider? I’m wondering what the multiple would be? Thank you.
Great tutorial. If I want to make this shawl wider. A multiple of how many should I take? Thanks in advance!
I love your top, did you crochet that? Is there a pattern for it?
hi marly, i love that shirt you have on, did you make it? if so can your share the pattern? I know there's a blanket with that pattern, i just wouldn't know how to put it together from a blanket. Thanks in advance.
❤️‼️❤️‼️❤️‼️
v. ls nice l like your sweater you have on can you show how to do it ty
If I wanted a lapghan, what multiples would it be, I have the pattern, but it doesn't say.
Where can i purchase that crochet hook?! 😍😍😍
Can you please advise the approx width and length of the wrap...I'm a beginner...Thanks
All of that is in the pattern :)
If this is Marly Bird say BANANAS....LOL
I absolutely love your sweater there. Do you have a pattern for this written out?
Where did you get that hook?
I love the top you have on! Tutorial for that?
do you do videos for more intermediate crocheters where you don't talk as much? Beautiful shawl by the way. I have already made one. I like the way it came out, but don't think the extra foundation stitches are necessary. =/ 65 stitches instead of 67? Thank you for sharing this pattern!
Marly, beside the shawl I love your outer, how to make it 😊
Hello,
I am allergic to wool so what other yarns can I use? I love this pattern.
Hi, I would like to make this in rounds. How many chains did you end up using? Thanks
Is there a pattern for the poncho you are wearing. Love The lacy in the pattern. Can it be done thinner width for a scarf?
Thank you, and yes it can.
What is the pattern multiple?
PLEASE PLEASE - what is the pattern you are wearing - I have looked everywhere for it and can't find it
I want to find the pattern for the sweater you were wearing in this video! LOL
👍🌹
I was given Fingering and Sport weight yarns, how can I adapt your lovely shawl pattern for those yarns. I'm only a beginner crocheter. Thank you. :)
Love your top! Is that your pattern?
Love pattern but would like to make it wider what is stitch count for peak and valley
Take a look at the pattern and the chart. You will see what the stitch multiple is. My notes say 16 sts +3
I would love to finish this pattern but I just cant seem to get crocheting right. every time I try doing this it just comes out a complete mess. I don't think crocheting is for me even if I really want to make this
Also this is 16 inches wide with 67 chain in her yarn and hook
Is there another yarn they can be used. I am allergic to wool. 😫
You can use any yarn.
Did you ever put the pattern for the sweater you are wearing out? Where can it be found? the link here in the comments doesn't work
what size crochet hook are you using for this shawl please thank you
Love the look of this pattern. Can't find link to get free printed pattern
the Red Heart website was recently moved to Yarnspirations.com and is experiencing some hiccups. I recommend clearing your cache and cookies and giving it another try. In the meantime, I will let them know that this link is not working.
Could you possibly link the pattern for your top please, its absolutely beautiful
it isn't ready yet. It is a poncho I made recently and I am not completely done with the pattern.
Would you please give pattern repeat?
Hello, is it possible to translate in french please. Because I’m franchement and m'y église il not vers good. Thank you vers much. Have à good Day.
What is the multiples of stitches if I wanna make it wider?
16 + 3
How about a tutorial for the sweater you're wearing?
the pattern is not ready yet. I only just finished it and I am not ready to publish just yet. soon.
I am beginner, what is pattern repeat so I could make wider for pregnant friend?
Viqui Carbajal I’ll try and explain-look at the valley, peak and valley. That is the pattern. So the repeat would be just that section. Now, look at the pattern and the video and hopefully that will help🤗
Link isn’t working to get pattern.😟
What can be substituted for this yarn?
Darlene Jordan probably one of the softer size 4 yarns. You know one that would give some drape. 50 bucks is a bit too much for me.
Please share the pattern of sweater you wearing pl pl pl
the pattern is not ready yet. I only just finished it and I am not ready to publish just yet. soon.
Pattern download states pattern is intermittent not beginner
With my help a beginner can do it.
Please hindi me explain kare
Very confusing with the colour change instead of briefing double crochets ! You could simple say double crochet two together cozz it really confuses if we are listening and doing at the same time!
I do the best I can and teach in a way that I think works best to show the stitches. I’m sorry this was not good enough for you.
I normally found your tutorial easy to follow and see. But this one was extremely hard to see the stitches and what you were doing. The yarn colors you used were too dark and it was very fine yarn to see exactly what you were doing. Next time use bigger yarn, brighter lighting, and light yarn color. I can’t follow this as I couldn’t see much.
You are so pretty and classy. I hate to see you style yourself to look so much older than you are.
I hope you enjoyed the crochet in the video.
Redbonegirl 175, You have a lot of nerve criticizing Marlys style. She is admired all over the world for her style and beauty. Shame on you!
Sorry but I can not follow your video. The camera does show where you insert your hook at all. I have been crocheting for almost two years so consider myself an advanced beginner. The worded instructions are fine, but again I can't see your hook placement to follow as your camera is to far away to really see what is going on...
