- TLC's Sister Wives has returned for it's 18th season and the hypocrisy, inconsistencies, and out right lights are being exposed.
For 18 Seasons we have watched four women share a man and pretend to be friends while doing it. On one hand we have two women who used their shared experiences of raising children together to foster a sister-like friendship and bond. On the other hand we have two women who have been trying to use their relationships to gain an upper-hand within the family. We can learn a lot from observing both these relationships.
Chrisinte and Janelle continue to be the heroes of the Sister Wives franchise. Their relationship is refreshing to watch, particularly in the shadow of overwhelming negativity. These ladies support one another and in many ways act like family.
Meri and Robyn continue to act and react in their own best interest. Robyn is using Meri as a sounding board cutout for the show and Meri is trying to use Robyn to get back in with Kody. Neither of them have been successful.

Meri spent what, 18 months alone during COVID and Robyn STILL didn’t want her to come over because it wouldn’t be “fair” to the other wives? The other wives who chose to live their lives and not hang around waiting for Kody (or Robyn) to grace them with their presence? Janelle was correct. COVID was just another excuse to keep everyone away. 🫤

In the scene at Meri's when she is announcing her departure to Kodi, Kodi is looking over at Robyn and the next camera take you see Robyn's face. Their faces say it all. He doesn't care but Robyn doesn't want to lose Meri's income. It's all about the money. And Meri better know that.

Yes! If you watch the clip that shows Meri about to tell Kody she's moving, Robyn's face looks like, "Oh, this is going to be good." When she sees that she's on camera, she tries to give a more serious look so as to not appear happy about this. They don't care where lives as long as her money stays there.

This is why people watched Sister Wives, Janelle and Christine, their genuine friendship, along with their kids were a joy to watch.
It's important to add that Janelle really supported Christine when Christine was leaving. This is even more impressive to me than Christine supporting Janelle because Janelle was actually losing something by Christine leaving. She didn't know that they'd still have a wonderful relationship afterwards. This is why I've come to like Janelle so much.
Robyn came looking to see whatever everyone can offer HER...Not what she could offer to the family. It's all about her wants and needs. She only wants people around if they serve a purpose for HER
Meri and Robyn have always been transactional towards each other. Meri brought in Robyn to Kody to soften his heart and take her back. Instead, Robyn merely sharpened his pencil. It backfired on Meri so badly, but she had nothing to hang on to except the promise (from Robyn) that Kody would bring her back into his life and bed.
I pray for the day the OG wives leave Kody's show and get their own show(s) so he stops getting money from them.
This religion is nuts when claims a person who is tortured and ignored in this life wants to be bound to their torturers for all eternity. The cult mindset is strong and harmful.

Actually...Meri and Leon are extremely close, and Meri is Leon's biggest protector ! She has spoken about it on her 'Fridays with Friends'. and Gwen has spoken of it. Meri supports Leon while Kody and Robyn have turned in disgust.

Robyn came into the family to get all the money and status she could. She loves being the head wife but now she is the only wife. She liked being the head wife and holding over those women. Kody used the OG3 for their money. Christine was watching and homeschooling 12 children while pregnant and said she also had to bring in an income so she worked nights. Robyn came in with 30k in debt and spending money like a crazy person. The show doesn't need Kody and Robyn. Monogamy isn't interesting. That is why they were manipulating Meri to stay and why Kody tried to get Janelle back. If he has them he is still in polygamy and they continue to put money in the family account.
Kody is so reckless with money. I wonder if when Robyn came into the family ("cap in hand"), it was an opportunity for Kody's ego...instead of saying, "I'd like to court you but it wouldn't be wise to for a man of so many responsibilities to take on debt" - Kody's stance was "of course I want another wife, more potential children and another woman competing for my time and resources! Who cares where the money will come from?" Is this what he means with "it's all ego baby"? I also think because Kody and Robyn are such self-serving people, they've found an affinity with each other. I disagree with Janelle when she says there's no "outright abuse" - how much of Meri's personal finances went to Kody (and Robyn) to try to get her way back into Kody's good graces? There has to be a case for financial abuse here.
@@BerryHair405 Meri paid into the family accout and well as Christine and Janelle. Who knows how much of yhr family money went into the obscene of crud in the big house. Janelle was used for her good credit too. I believe there was monetary abuse, emotional abuse and verbal abuse of the OG3 wives. I think Robyn helped him to do all that when she came. She was telling him everything the others said. Chtistine and Janelle figured out she was going to Kody with everything and stopped hanging out with her. I am glad Meri is finally seeing Robyn and all her manipulative ways.

Christine has always been fun-loving and open. Janelle is easy going and honest. Meri has always been moody and cryptic. Robyn has always been self-centered and devious. Do you notice how the ladies with the lighter personalities are drawn together? They are and have always been the heart and joy of this show. I didn't realize it at the time, but from the very beginning, they are the reason I watched this show. If it was a show with just Kody, Meri and Robyn, I would have never watched. Their personalities have always grated on me.

🎯I loved Christine from day 1. I knew she was honest when she expressed that Kody getting married was like losing her best friend. She has always stated how she honestly felt. But Janelle I could always tell she was holding back what she truly thought or she was constantly editing herself for tv. Oh but now? Now Janelle is letting everybody have it. If she completely lets go and rips in on K and R she can burn the house down!😂

When they announced Robyn's pregnancy, she didn't run over and gush on Robyn like Christine did, or when they announced Meri's divorce from Kody, she made it known she wasn't too pleased. Once again, Christine acted excited, although in both instances, I'm sure both women felt the same, but Janelle refused to fake enthusiasm while Christine did. Also, Janelle really let loose about how she felt about that 11 day honeymoon!

The only thing that I can think of for Meri to force herself to stay is…. “What promises did Kody & Robyn make to Meri ,as the OG wife #1, to give up the legal wife status”? She may be hanging on to get whatever benefits that we’re promised. She gave up a lot when she gave up her legal wife status! Kody and Robyn are just trying to screw her over as usual.
My goodness, you nailed it when you said that Robyn is thinking that she “can’t understand” why she is not getting what she wants. In the episode when Robyn rants about losing “her family”, (not our family), she displays this same mentality.

It was interesting to me to see Meri's reaction fo Robyn rehashing Kody and Christine's relationship. Meri didnt come out and defend Christine to Robyn but her body language said a lot. Im hoping one day soon she'll pull Robyn up short and give her a true history lesson on the family before R brought her wrecking ball in.
Kody clearly wants Meri gone, but didn’t go to the trouble of getting the spiritual release from marriage from their faith leaders that was brought up when Christine left. He doesn’t want Meri around, but wants to keep just enough hold over her to keep accessing her money. This is the same kind of thing that Christine and Janelle were talking about when they said Kody was driving them away and making them be the ones to choose to leave. Really despicable.

I've got to be honest. I don't like any one of these people except Christine and Janelle. I think that this show was produced to show the world that plural marriage works, obviously. It doesn't. Jealousy always comes into play. When a man makes it known that he has a favorite wife, he is a blind fool if he thinks his plural marriages will continue as per usual. What woman wants to be put aside all the time by a man and continue a relationship? He was doing that to everyone but Robin. No wonder he's losing them one by one. He's getting angry but acts like he doesn't know why. Playing dumb, I guess. He and Robin just want to keep the money train going, end of story.
Kody and Robyn driving the entire family away is insane on their part. Without the family there is no show and alienateing the whole family makes no sense. It's never occurred to me before that deliberately breaking the fourth wall is a way to keep a moment of your life out of the show. I wonder if Kody has used this tactic before and that's why the producers got fed up and decided to keep it in.
It’s sad but it goes beyond just Kody. Meri has also been indoctrinated by her faith and strong ties to her mother Bonnie. Her faith tells her that the only way she is going to see her family in heaven is being a sister wive.
But losing her mother and maybe watching Christine leave , and maybe watching the show and seeing the things Kody has said have maybe widened the blinders allowing her to see the real world.
IMO both Kody and Robyn have given Meri mixed signals about Kody not wanting to stay with Meri. I feel they've strung her along for her income to help finance their lifestyle and spending. It's good to see Meri has finally wised up, seen through their bullshit and is making moves to leave..
You are so right! My favorite thing about your videos is how you use this show and these people to TEACH lessons in being a good human being!! Yay, James!!! Just watching the conversations - no sound needed! - you can tell the difference in the "friendships" between the two sets of women talking to each other. Janelle and Christine are there for each other - ride or die; Meri and Robyn both use each other to try to get what they want/need from the family or Kody.
If you go back watch all of it from beginning when meri.was the wife . They planned everything together ,they did everything together ff when Robin became the wife when everything started falling apart Meri after R set that catfish up just kind gave up . Bec no one was having anything do with each other everything was drama after R Bec wife . It wasn't Meri why family fall apart it was Kody ,Robin . Meri just felt outted like always stared really rebuilding her own life . Only coming when if they did family things together .

During one of the Kody/Meri therapy sessions in Vegas, Nancy/Pat told them that they are too much alike. They are in competition with each other. Each wants to be acknowledged as right (the winner) by the other. Each wants the last word. In a current episode, Meri was leery of telling Kody that she was moving to Parowan because she did not want Kody to say "I told you so! You're quitting on me. You are leaving me" and have Kody run his victory lap. In the trailer for episode 8 when Meri tells Kody that she is moving her business to Parowan he smiles and says "That's good news, right?" and he claims victory.
Meri once again makes absolutely no sense with the "I told you so" bull. Kody could not have possibly been any more cruel when talking about, and describing being with Meri in the last few seasons. He talks about her like she's roadkill being moved out of the road, so where does she get this newest idea we're seeing in her head?? There is either more manipulation going on behind the scenes at time of filming, or just Meri being absolutely infuriating making $#!+ up. KODY DOESN'T CARE!
So true but what Kody don't know, is that Meri is much smarter than he gives her credit for. When Meri says she will be doing most of her business from INN, she has already calculated taking all of her money. Kody's dog ass thinks he gonna continue to get her money even though he is treating her 💩.

My take is that Robyn may also be a narcissist/sociopath and it's an unspoken understanding between her and kody that 'money' is the goal. Meri gave kody the weapon to discard her, and because she no longer serves a purpose, he doesn't care. Meri is only "needed" by Robyn to create content for the show. Meri says she will be back in Flagstaff when she is "needed."
One problem now will be the refusal of some of the kids to be anywhere Meri is. We knew that Maddie, Paedon, Gwen and Mykelti have complained about Meri, but now Mykelti refuses to be on camera with her, and she is one of the only kids left who has anything to do with Kody.
Robyn told her they had a second Christmas with Ysabel, Mykelti and the production crew, and didnt include her, she not only told her that they had a family gathering without her, they filmed an episode without her.
Same thing happened way back when Maddie gave birth to her first child: everybody was there for the event, including the cameras, but Meri was deliberately excluded (they made up some excuse about how they forgot her, but we learned later that Maddie hates her)
Meri isnt going to be needed for production other than conversations with Robyn
It's sad really, Meri could have made herself a real Mother to Janelle and Christine's kids, but I think her bitterness over not being able to have more kids got in the way. Now she has very little family at all.
I don’t get that feeling from Gwen, and Maddie seemed fine with Meri until that first baby. Things were fine until she left to pick up then Mariah and Audrey.

I believe that the producer that Kody is friends with has convinced him to tone it down. During the show, when he meant up with Jennell after that big fight and six weeks or longer meant up and he apologized to her about that fight he has changed. I believe that he was told to tone it down it he wanted the show to continue. Once again, Kody just wants that paycheck. This show just needs to end as it is not entertainment as all we are seeing is paying these idiots for bad behavior.

When Mary speaks to Robin, there is fear in her eyes, where as Robin looks bored, and slightly annoyed.
Meri brought Robyn in the family to have a friend because she had a strained relationship with Christine and Janelle. The plan backfired and Meri was put to the side. The family has stated that Meri was difficult and some of the kids say she was abusive. I think that childhood trauma/upbringing, her inability to have more children and being pushed aside by Kody caused her to act that way. Did those things make her actions right NO, but there is a cause on why people do things. Meri has not interacted with this family besides screen time. I think her faith, the catfihing incident and not want to disappoint her mother has keep her there this long. She decided to play her role in hopes of being in Kodys' good graces, she now seems to be waking up.

There’s a psychologist who does recaps and he tends to lift a single exchange out of a conversation and analyze it completely out of context. I love that James can pull back and see the episode as he does. In this case, he’s showcasing the stark difference between Christine and Janelle’s friendship versus Meri and Robyn’s situationship. Fantastic insights and amazing commentary.
Meri is a rough personality who hasn’t been the best sister wife to Christine and Janelle. Now she is practically exiled from the family as a result of her tunnel vision to get Kody back and aligning with the enemy to accomplish that.
I think the only thing more heartbreaking than the demise of your marriage and the fracture of your family would be to watch them continue on without you, week after week on tv. At least by hanging around, she’s invited to film.
James, you are spot on. There is such a contrast between Christine and Janelle's real relationship and Meri and Sobbin Robyn's fake relationship. The first 2 care about each other, the second pair don't really care about each other. If Robyn cared for Merri, she would encourage Merri to do what is in Merri's best interests. We see this when Merri says you need to call me once in a while. Its very telling that Robyn wants to string Merri along when she knows Kody has no interest in repairing his relationship with Merri. Sobbin Robyn has enough self awareness to know she is being selfish wanting to string Merri along. The sad thing about Merri is she doesn't have anyone. Robyn used her to get into the family. Does Sobbin Robyn have any genuine friends?
Robyn always shows her 2 faces one for Kody of loyalty and one for the wives and kids the other being complete fakeness and trying to keep Meri and Janelle there for the money, what Robyn is doing to Meri is worse because Meri was believing and Robyn knew Kody could care less and he says so

i feel like christine started to get excited that she might be leaving him then was struggling to reign herself in with the bad mouthing i think she really wants the best for janelle and is trying not to overly influence her. but its hard
Maybe it’s just me….but it almost seems like a lot of the conversations that Meri and Robyn have on camera are STAGED in an attempt to make them look better and Christine and Janelle look worse. A lot of their conversations have not felt generic and have sounded, well, like lies. And it looks kind of like Meri goes along in an attempt to keep favour but is starting to break. It could be leading to a huge breakdown.

I don’t think the OG3 had any kind of relationship with Kody since Robyn’s arrival and that’s a very long time to go without any affection from a significant other. They should have realized that anything would be better than having to subjugate their own needs for someone as soulless as Kody. A man may have a right to move on from his wife but what kind of a man discards his own children?
That is exactly why it bothers me. Meri cannot just have a conversation with Kody. She has to have Robin there… No, she is not your friend. Grow up have an adult conversation with the man. You say you want to be with on your own.
I agree with you again. Also there were concessions made before the marriage. Kody put a light on each wife for Robyn. He gave up on Meri long before. He was never attracted to Christine(that’s why it was said publicly just for Robyn)and Janelle and he are good friends. I know he said he wasn’t interested with Robyn at first. Now I’m certain they had intimacy while courting, cuz she showed him what he’d get taking on her 3 kids and debt. And she would be obedient and let him be the head. There was a barter for sure. I’m sure she had to work it for the real marriage for her kids to get adopted. I’d like to have been a fly on that wall.
When Meri suggested inviting Robyn into the family I don't believe her intentions were pure and I believe that's why things worked out for her the way they did. She was drawn to someone like her but with a twist and saying Robyn twisted that family is an understatement. She turned them upside down and inside out on top of the twist. I only feel sadness for the kids...

Watching Kody all these years treat certain wives and children so badly, it can be hard to hear Janelle expressing uncertainty about leaving him. Christine was the 'pathfinder' creating a safe route away from Kody's toxic behaviours and so yes, I think she is up ahead gently coaxing Janelle on and rooting for her and her kids.
Christine 100% knows there IS a wonderful, healthy & happy life away from Kody & Robyn, emotionally, financially and spiritually and she wants that for her friend. Not so much to 'hurt' Kody but to see her sister wife Janelle find true happiness and not waste any more time on a lost cause which continues to hurt her AND her kids. Loving their sisterhood. It's the only reason I still watch tbh.
I feel Meri has guilt from the catfish incident. Her religious belief compounded with guilt, is what makes her stand firm with not leaving. I also think there’s a little girl crush on Robyn that keeps her concerned about her feeling a certain way. I think Meri leaving Flagstaff and staying in Parawon made her realize how much better she feels being away from the toxicity and that was the push she needed to break free.

You're absolutely correct about Mary wanting a relationship with Kody. Mary loves this man, he was her 1st love, her FIRST EVERYTHING, he was her everything and she NEVER wanted a divorce. Sadly Mary will drink Kody's dirty bath water and eat 10lbs of his shit because she loves him. Love is hard and it takes a long time for people to rise above and get over him/her even though they know deep down it's over.
I always say, until the heart catches up to mind, it is what it is.

Kody has been more explicit on his one on ones with the camera than he has with Meri in person. He acts coldly toward her but he hasn't said to her "It's over. Leave." So it's not the same as Kody continuing to persue Christine. Christine made herself clear.
I have a friend that was in a bad relationship the entire duration of our friendship (12 years). She's been legally separated for 5 years but hasnt officially divorced. She's right on the cusp of getting it but i have to stand by and not celebrate too much everytime she has an epiphany. I can definitely Relate to wanting the best for my friend but knowing she needs to get there in her own time. If I were Robyn, I would be trying to keep her in that abusive relationship. Because it makes it easier with her partner Being best friends with my husband. Robyn is so manipulative

I will say, while I agree it's a bit cringe from our perspective Meri/Kody. The difference between Kody/Christine and Meri/Kody is that Meri has a bug in her ear (Robin) telling her that Kody is saying this, and doing that, and maybe just maybe. He's told her they're going to have "fresh starts" and all this. So while he's telling the audience in interviews he's done and doesn't want her. To her face, this tag team of users, are giving her just enough hope to keep her hanging on. Why I think she's just now seeing it, is because she's watching the show in real time, and seeing what he says to audience vs her.

27:22 I’ve seen no real evidence of Kody wanting a “conversation” with his sons. Any comments he’s made have come across that any such “conversation” would require them first to show him the “proper respect” as patriarch and submit to his authority rather than an open conversation where he sought to understand where they were coming from. After all, love doesn’t matter to Kody, only respect and earning his favor.

Janelle has low self esteem, even though she says she is a smart independent person. If she were smart, she would see her children are being emotionally abused and she’s being taken advantage of financially. If someone had done this to my kids they would be out of my life forever.

On the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, there is a new cast member called Monica, she was basically kicked out of the Mormon church for having an affair with her sister in-laws husband. Now, lets look at Meri, she sat and watched Kody take in Janelle who was her sister in Law (as she was married to her brother) and became Kody's second wife and popped out kids like bullets. No one with a coherent mind would really allow that to unfold, Meri is and will always be Kody's lapdog. Personally, I think Robyn ruined the relationship between Meri and Kody. It was Meri he took with him to hook up with Robyn. Meri was his legal wife and his ride and die, but slowly she was ignored as Robyn took over. Lets face it Meri wanted Robyn in the hope she would have a baby for her. Meri will do her own things on the side, but her comfort zone is being on her own waiting on Kody to turn up. She has to get out of that comfort zone, I am unsure if she can.
Good point and I was blown away about Monica.😳She admits the information without any empathy for the other people involved and because she can't afford the lavish lifestyle, Monica is playing the victim. It appears that she's lot like Robyn...very cruel. Monica continues to wine about Lisa Barlow talking about losing her $60,000 ring...it had nothing to do about Lisa understanding that others can't afford the bare-minimal, it's all about Monica's jealousy.

Even Janelle said Kody chose all of his wives. I believe he swore Meri to secrecy for those two weeks before he told the other's. Just like he dated Janelle without telling Meri, and then Christine when Janelle was pregnant. It's 'all Kody'.

You’re absolutely right about influence of friends. My husband has a close friend who is staying in a failing marriage. Shortly after our first child was born, my husband and I were really struggling mentally and our relationship was suffering under the stress of IVF followed by NICU followed by a colicky baby. The friend suggested “Maybe your wife never loved you.” That was the problem in HIS marriage, not ours!!! My husband internalized it and blew up at me and threatened to go live in his own apartment, worst fight we ever had in over ten years together. Luckily, he no longer tells any home problems to that friend, and we have never had fights like that before or since!

I 100% believe that Meri is the one that started the friendship to ruin the relationship with the other two women and then it backfired on her because Cody and her ended up being narcissistic mirrors for each other so it was Mary that wanted to get back at the other ladies so it was Meri that wanted to get back at Christine and Jenelle or at least have someone to conspire with
Meri would do anything to get in Kody’s good graces. She would take blame and responsibility, for anything. Kody probably gave Meri a ‘choose me or your daughter’ demand, just like Janelle. That may be why Kody thinks Meri is disloyal, not the catfish. Their religion doesn’t accept those who are not standard heterosexuals.
I think Kody is gay and tried to hide it with wives and alot of kids...😮😊
