Christine's Advice To Janelle Is Being Interpreted As Pity. Could This End Their Friendship?

This episode opens the opportunity for us to have the conversation about the boundaries of friendship. Everyone wants their loved one to have the best life possible as pain-free as possible. In last week's episode we were able to see a slight crack in Janelle and Christine's friendship. Christine wants her friend to leave the toxic relationship with Kody. Janelle is arguing that she knows what she is doing, and she feels that Christine is starting to pity her.
Nobody likes the idea that hey are being pitied by their friends. This would cause stress in any relationship. So what should Christine do? What are some of the things she should keep in mind....?

The only thing I disagree with is the "soulmate" thing. Robyn and Kody are not soulmates. They found things in each other that serve themselves. Kody gets the younger attractive girl that will do whatever he wants. It strokes his ego. Robyn gets a comfortable life. Their relationship is mutually beneficial. NOT soulmates. The moment they aren't getting what they want from each other, it's over.

Minus the attractive bc sobyn is far from being pretty and has never been pretty. Yes she WAS thinner but definitely not attractive! She looks like an angry emu from the front and a witch from the side
Another word we use frivolously “soulmate”. When it feels good we use it. Then it all falls apart. Soulmates don’t fall apart true soulmates don’t fall apart. Mine is a friend I’ve had for 50 years. I love my husband. I agree with youzx
You aren’t wrong! How many times this season have we heard Robyn whine “this could be a ‘dill’ breaker”…(deal breaker, as in for her and Kody’s relationship).
Once the TLC money dries up, they're going to regret the decision to have Robyn be a stay at home wife because she will have been out of the workforce for so long that it will be impossible for to find a job that pays enough to sustain their current lifestyle.
Never give relationship advice to a friend, it always backfires 😂

She knows intellectually staying with him makes her look like a weak woman but she can live amongst that bc she always did her own thing. She never had the jealousies bc she liked her freedom. But indoctrination has a grasp on her. She’ll get there.
Yes like when your both calling his butt out then a week later they are back in love and they don't remember what they said about the partner..only what u said..n sometimes they even end up telling him or her.😂
Great insight. Janelle had convinced herself that she was ok with being, essentially, the "side piece" & now she thinks she can negotiate something more? Not happening, and Christine knows it. Janelle just wasn't there yet where she realized nothing was ever going to be different with Kody.
Absolutely fledge Christine got a reality check when she saw everything that happened to Mary is happening to her now and she’s all oh hell no (as I shake my head) uh-Uh no effing way man I’m not settling for this is what Christine said that’s what ultimately woke her up because a marriage, without romance without love without intimacy that’s no marriage whatsoever and it’s not fair. The man can do whatever the hell he wants. It’s like a stepford wife with a twist.
Right again, James! Christine is struggling to separate her own experience from Janelle’s. They have entirely different personalities despite a shared family experience. Christine has a vested interest in the break up of Kody and Janelle as well, as it validates her leaving. She must put aside her opinions to be a caring friend to Janelle.

The most honest thing Christine ever said, was how Meri was led on for Years, by Kody, and how cruel it was!
I think Janelle’s first priority now is her finances. She will do what she has to in order to get herself financially independent before she worries about her romantic life.
People forget that Christine was financially able to just walk away and Janelle’s still financially tied up. I don’t see Janelle still pining for Kody. I see her staying sane while she handles her business.
I don’t think Janelle wants a “romantic” life. I feel she needs a more intellectual, stable person to be with. Companion I was a good word. Someone to be practical with.
@@uhsaywhatnow exactly! Janelle knew Christine wanted to leave before Flagstaff, that is why she advised her to buy a house. Janelle didn't get herself all set up, because it was never her intention to leave. I honestly think she is staying for financial reasons. If Kody only has 1 wife, there is no longer "sisterwives". She needs to get her checks before she can cut ties.

Get down to the nitty griddy and pull the blinded back and show things for what they really are but not only that but you have solutions and they’re good solutions and it’s not in a mean way it’s always caring and non combative. I automatically think about your kids and how lucky they have to have you as a parent… I’m sure when it comes to your kids there’s more emotion behind it but nevertheless it’s filled with love and wanting them to see the world for what it is and how to be the best person you can be.

This makes me wonder if Robyn realizes that Kody and Janelle were 'friends with benefits'. I can see a scenario where Kody had Robyn believing he wasn't 'sleeping' with the other wives, so this might be news to her!
I think Janelle specifically said "friends with benefits for YEARS" on TV so Robyn would hear it. Did you notice her smile when she said it? LOL Robyn probably though she was calling Kody back home fast enough he didn't have that kind of time with the other wives.

couldn't agree with you more! i was annoyed by this episode. i love Christine but i think she needs to back off Janelle. Shes got a strong head on her shoulders. Further more I am soooo TIRED of them having the same conversations 1000 different ways.
I did not interpret Christine's interactions with Janelle to be persuasive or pitying any way. I think she is walking a very fine line between her desires for Janelle's well being and being supportive of whatever Janelle wants.

Honestly how Janelle spoke about Christine help or the fight with Kody, is the real Janelle. A Janelle we didn't realy see because she's always so controled but behind the scenes that's how she speaks and acts. Not as nice as she appears. It was a bit to vile for realy close friends she claims they are, even if she was upset. When she pretended that Kody was an amazing dad when Christine in the past many times criticized him, because her sons did get a better version of him while Christine daughters didn't. Yet he was an ass to her family, too and have been taking more than giving. Or when she gossip with Kody about everything Christine confided to her so she could be on Kody good side, just a few examples. I remember Christine saying Janelle and her only getting really close until Flagstaff yet to us they portray that they were always close. That left me with a nad taste in my mouth and seemed very fake I like Janelle but I wouldn't trust her as far in ould throw.

I agree. I’m glad Christine didn’t abandon Janelles kids because they already lost Kody and Janelle isn’t standing up for them. J is only concerned about how it’s effecting her
I think Janelle realized Kody was excercising his patriarchal rights over her and that didn’t sit well. I’n the past Janelle said she didn’t sign up for that. But Kody feels she had. I think that was a last straw besides him doing what he did with her boys.

I don’t think anything Christine said to Janelle was wrong. She can have an opinion. If Janelle doesn’t want an opinion then she shouldn’t trauma dump on Christine.
I think Christine needs to give Janelle some space to work her own things out .

Great take James! The OG3 are placeholders. Robyn are Kody are wallet soulmates...this is Kody's mid-life crisis and Robyn makes him feel like the big strong man he thinks he's always been. 🤔🤔🤔 And I'm sure Robyn saying "I could have been courted by other men" is what she's continually dangled in front of Kody when things don't go her way. I'm sure he is terrified of losing his "prize" of a younger wife. Robyn is ambitious and will keep on taking! Kody isn't her last stop, lol. For Kody, Robyn is "it". He can't admit he's blown away three marriages because it's too insulting to his "real" current union.
I bet he'll be looking for another wife in a few years!

I find it incredibly incongruent that he would call Meri his "soulmate" and then years later claim she "deceived" him into marriage! 🤥🤥🤥 What if he never met Robyn? My sister and I do this to each ither all the time. Its part of our relationship. I know she would be happier if she would just... She vents to someone until she gets her words all lined up, then talks to me about her feelings about what I said. We get it straightened out and move on. She does the same with me.
But, we do adore each other and have each others backs. I assigned myself her bodyguard when she was born and have held that position through life. She does the same for me. We're both in our late 60's now.
I see Christine's and Janelle's relationship being very similar. Just not from childhood. They arent going to go their separate ways over anything like this. They each know the love and caring each has fir the other.

This is what I see too. I think they did talk about this between their selves off camera because they are still close today. I can see how Christine has done this without realizing but would be more aware of it after it was brought to her attention. I have seen in other clips where Christine has visibly and verbally pull back when talking with Janelle about Janelle and Kody.
If Christine didn't question why Janelle stays, wanting more for her friend, people would be complaining that she's not a good friend. I do find it hysterical how Kody questions why cant janelle love him again, but he fails to see Meri having the same question for why he refuses to love her again.
Christine wants only the best for her friend Jeanelle, but they are not on the same timeline
Christine is not pitying Janelle, she is empathetic to her and only wants her to be happy, unlike Robyn and Meri, where Robyn wants to hold Meri in a miserable situation, that's why you never want to be the messenger of truth, you are the one who receives the anger that should be directed at the perpetrator of the pain.

Janelle blocked me on Instagram when i questioned her and said I was confused. She says she and Kody have always had a great relationship but yet they have separated several times, once for several years. She blocked me. Guess she didnt like being called out on the contradiction!
Christine and Janelle are two very different women, with different goals in life. Their paths forward will likely be as different as they are, imo.

A person has to leave in their mind first. Then they physically leave. Even when it’s a dangerous situation. The emotions have to die first. Otherwise you end up going back.

I was married to a man who became physically abusive after 9 years of marriage, when I finally became pregnant after years of infertility. I was astounded! He had already been overly critical, but the psychological abuse skyrocketed (and the physical abuse began) when he faced a serious derailment of his military career. I couldn't believe what was happening! It took me awhile to leave, but when I did, it was for good!
I did not tell anyone in my family what was happening at the time, until I was ready to leave, because I know myself very well. I knew that if anyone tried to push or force me to leave before I was ready to do so, I would rebel and do the opposite. I am very stubborn and DO NOT LIKE BEING CONTROLLED OR TOLD WHAT TO DO!! That's not necessarily a bad thing when it comes to having what it takes to leave an abuser for good, IMO.
I agree with you, James! In this instance, I hope and pray that Christine remembers "The Golden Rule" when dealing with Janelle (Treat others the way you would like to be treated.) If she does, then this will help her to support Janelle in the best way possible.

Kody and Janelle have both talked about being great friends. Janelle has also said that Kody is her best friend. I think by saying that they were basically friends with benefits she is acknowledging that what they have is nothing like the marriage he has with Robyn. I think she has decided that she wants that partnership she sees that he is capable of but she’s in the process of accepting that it won’t be with him.
I don’t feel like Christine was trying to come across that way.

You are the only person I’ve listened to that puts it right…When Kody met Robyn he found his wife…period. The other three had the majority of his children but were never his wife. That’s it in a nutshell. Now we are left listening to Kody putting the blame for his choices on everyone else.

i get your point of view id also like to point out i had to learn that when my husband upset me not to vent with my best friend because that made her dislike my husband and wanted me to leave him... when in reality i just wanted to vent he maybe a butt but he is my butt. janelle just wants to vent and its hard to be a true friends like christine who is healing from hurt by the same man that isnt really helpful to christine and then janelle thinks its pity when in reality christine is still healing and is truely sad her friend is going through that.

I don't believe that Christine is pitying Janelle. I believe that as Christine has seen the light, she wants her friend to see it as soon as possible, too. I do agree that patience on Christine's part will go a long way - once Janelle snaps back into her right mind.
Breaking up with a bad situation whether partner, job, or anything and walking away is very difficult to do, especially if one has been in the bad situation for an extended period of time. It's hard to believe that any amount of time dedicated to someone or something ended up being a waste of time & energy which might have been spent elsewhere.
Christine and Janelle always put themselves last. Christine realized that Kody was also putting her children last. Janelle has an inkling of that, but she will have to see that Kody is putting not only her but her children at the bottom of the family tree.
I think the 3 OG wives loved kody and didn't necessarily settle, at least in the beginning. Kody on the other hand didn't believe in romantic love so while he was settling he didn't really realize it. Once kody met robyn and found out his mistake he wasn't interested in settling anymore. If he was any kind of man he would have set the OG3 free right then instead of gaslighting and using them.
Janelle wants kody to put her on par with robyn and that's not going to happen. She will have to settle or leave and we all know she leaves eventually.
