Great video as always! I have a small critique about the steering sensitivity terms you used, though. You mentioned that the degrees you turn a smaller wheel will effect the car more than a larger wheel, but I think the degrees turned for small or large would have the same effect. It’s the arc length that your hand would have to move to achieve that degree of turn that will change. So with a larger wheel your hand moves further per degree of rotation since it has a larger perimeter and a longer lever. The longer lever makes it easier to turn the wheel as you mentioned.
Exactly my thought at that very moment. Bigger steering wheel needs more movement from your hands. It doesn't adds up another degrees to existing 360 of them.

I wanted to point out, that, the bigger the steering wheel, the distance it turns in 1 degree is the same, what actualy changes, is the distance your hand needs to move to turn the same distance. That's because 1 degree is 1/360 of the wheels outter edge, if the outter edge is bigger, each section will get bigger accordingly to fill the whole 360 degrees, but it's still going to be 1/360, you just have to move your hand a longer distance. At 23:36 you could likely utilize the vehicle's internal wiring to the clockspring that were meant for stock steering wheel buttons so you don't have to use an external coil cord wire. You'd just need to get a quick release adapter that has another electrical contact. Actually, you could use the quick release you already have and use the two contacts of the quick release for horn and button and use the body as a common ground. Just like that: Wireless Steering Wheel. If you wanted to get real real fancy you could have a microcontroller embedded in the steering wheel that that uses only a few conductors to talk to another microcontroller on the car side that will allow you to have many different controls on the wheel with only a few conductors through the quick release.
Hi Chris, greetings from UK. In the 80s I had a mini that was stolen twice so I resorted to removing the steering wheel & that stopped the buggers from steeling it! Btw days before air bags.

Great words of wisdom! Do NOT remove that airbag with a street car! got me a carbon wheel and love it. Definitely a sick option that still keeps me safe.
I was totally going to remove my stock steering wheel and buy a quick release wheel on my daily driver as I'm concerned about security, and who could steal a car with no steering wheel? I'm glad I saw this video first, because I didn't even think about the airbag. I'll figure something else out, thank you so much for potentially saving my life in the event of an accident!

Hey man I know you’re far gone from the interior detailing videos 7 years ago however I wanted to personally thank you our business is thriving and your videos are to thank.
The first video I saw of yours was kicking a football with an airbag and loved it. I looked at your channel and saw that you were right up my alley. I’ve been watching your videos since and learning how to fix cars and engines. I’ve been seeing your progress with all your projects and would like to say congratulations! I am only 13 years old and today I got my first project! It’s a lawn mower engine that’s not running, and I am planning to make a go kart and use your videos to help me! I would like to say thank you so much for teaching me about cars and unlocking my love for engines and cars! Love your channel, keep it up!💪
This is why I love this channel. How many videos do you see online that tell you how to do this kind of stuff, but don't have the disclaimers saying that doing these modifications could potentially injure or kill you. Keep up the good videos Chris!
One of the many reasons I freaking love Chris Fix is because he gets right to the point and his videos are super thorough and easy to understand. Certain other individuals, which I will not name but you all probably know them, will start chatting about stuff that is only somewhat related, then they’ll start telling you their life story, then they’ll start talking politics, then they’ll start talking about about something completely unrelated. By the time their video is done, you’ll have completely missed the 5 second part where they actually covered the subject in the title.
thank you for saying not to remove the airbag, you see so many people with quick releases and you just have to hope they'll be okay when they get into a crash
Love how you mentioned that it must still have the airbag. I'd love to have a good aftermarket steering wheel, but always stayed away from it due to needing a HANS/Race seat and Roll Cage. You mentioning that they can be custom modified by some places actually really interests me...Actually wanna look into that now.
Just use a crush hub. I'm thinking of removing my airbag because it a 1991 car and I learned that the airbag was really dangerous and actually causes injury. There was a whole bunch of airbag recall and IDK if mine was ever replace or if there still a bomb infront of my face when I'm driving...
I don’t really comment on videos, but I have to comment on one of yours. I’ve been watching you for awhile and I’m always so interested in your videos. Not only the quality but professionalism and friendliness is always great! The amount of info you give me and it’s not overwhelming is awesome. You always make me feel like i could do anything with the step by step. Thank you ChrisFix. You’re the goat. Have a good one! :)
Chris i am a fan im 18 years old and when i saw you drift i loved it so i bought a used 240z and did all the mods you did, then i engine swaped it with a 2jz and now im awsome at drifting so i just want to say thank you.
A removable steering wheel on my daily driver prevented my car from being stolen for the 10 years that I had it. I had the one with the key and locking cap so another wheel couldn't be put on, to steal the car. The key also makes it impossible to accidentally remove your steering wheel while the car is in motion. Depending on what car you have, and how bad vehicle crime is in your area, you should consider this.
Im glad he actually added a disclaimer explaining the legitimate safety hazards around running no airbags on a street vehicle as opposed to just flashing a quick notice on screen. Might have even educated a few people.
I've been watching every single one of your videos for years now, but I always get just as excited when I see a new upload! It's been great watching you grow as a content creator over the years, thanks for being so awesome and keep up the great work!!
Hey Chris! Amazing video! Just a quick correction: 19:25 the angles are the same no matter the steering wheel. what changes is how much you move your arms in relation to the steering wheel's center. the bigger the wheel, the longer the motion you need to achieve the same rotation degree compared to a smaller wheel.
I've been watching Chrisfix for a year now and I have never ever been disappointed this is my favorite channel I bought my first project car just because of the driftstang series this guy is a legend
I’ve always been interested in working on cars but never knew what i should learn for starting. But your videos make it a lot easier. Being able to afford the tools are a big help. But the way you explain everything is really easy to understand.
Hey Chris! Great video as always! Quick question, would you consider adding a auto battery shut off switch? Kinda like the inertia switch, but for your battery? I know you got a lot of safety systems in place but as you say, redundancy is important! Also, this is unrelated but still a good information. I remember your radiator flush video or the one where you replaced the radiator, and you mentioned electrolysis and we learned in school that you can use a multimeter to measure electrolysis in the coolant. First and foremost you want the car cold Then set the meter to DC have the negative cable in the negative terminal of the battery, and use the positive lead of the meter and insert it into the coolant from the radiator. If it shows higher than .4 Volts then you have a problem. Now if you want to find the source of the problem, you can turn on the car, and add individual loads and turn them off, things like heat, AC, lights, etc. and if after turning off one load the voltage stays the same you found the source of the problem. Hope it was informative!
Thanks a lot. I will be installing a battery cutoff. The inertia switch is also a good idea tho! I wonder if there is a down side for a race car? Thanks for the info on the electrolysis

Chris fix is the best car RUclipsr in my opinion. He cares about our safety, and helps he swap or replace parts. And I love how he shows us how to do everything easily. Your the best
Exactly. You can just use a board with I2C!

Hi Chris, greetings from UK. In the 80s I had a mini that was stolen twice so I resorted to removing the steering wheel & that stopped the buggers from steeling it! Btw days before air bags.
Been waiting for this video for a very, VERY long time FINALLY! Thanks Chrisfix on all these amazing tutorials we can do at home! So much easier and you can save up lots of money on these tutorials, surely gonna have a use for this video when i probably have a racecar!
Now the weather is nice so it’s time to catch up on making the videos I wanted to do for the longest time!!!

Dang, respect for pulling steering wheels out of your other cars to show different steering assemblies! You don’t see other people doing that
I want to show you guys as much as I can. Takes a lot of extra time but I think it’s worth it!
I also love the disclaimer at the beginning because many people take this for granted and if they don’t be safe, they can be very injured or die
When it comes to car tutorials, i feel like Chris is the dad we all wish we had
I love that you showed the spring mechanism BMW uses and how it gets unlocked by a screwdriver. That is really valuable and I feel that seeing the internal mechanism gives me an understanding how it works and what I need to do to operate it. Nice detail, Mr. Fix ;)
This has gotta be one of the most comprehensive how to videos on steering wheels, not just quick release ones. Your level of detail is top notch, sir! All your videos are great for people to learn, thanks for being such a good teacher!
The disclaimer was a great touch. It's always great to learn this in case I do end up racing so it's great to know wheel diffreces. This was a great vid and I love your content.
The lemon keychain is a nice touch too lol🤣 ❤️
I very much enjoy seeing Chris demonstrate how the product works and seeing his face instead of just a POV style of video. Keep it up!!
I grew up watching The King of Random, I always felt something special from your videos and I never made the connection until now, you irradiate that same joy that Grant had while teaching people stuff.
Anyways, I know you are pretty carefull with stuff, but be safe out there, wouldn't be wanting to miss another one of my favourite youtubers.

11:28 A tip from my father: Keep the bolt in a few threads. This way, when you pull off the steering wheel, it won't fly off into your face.
Awesome tip!

Love your channel, keep it up!💪
Thanks for the ongoing support! That is an awesome first project! Let me know how it goes!
@@chrisfix I definitely will! Probably starting around the 23rd.
This is why I love this channel. How many videos do you see online that tell you how to do this kind of stuff, but don't have the disclaimers saying that doing these modifications could potentially injure or kill you. Keep up the good videos Chris!

Hey ChrisFix, I just wanted to let you know to keep it up, I recommended you to all my friends, because of your quality work! Good luck.

If you find anything PLEASE lmk 😭
Just use a crush hub. I'm thinking of removing my airbag because it a 1991 car and I learned that the airbag was really dangerous and actually causes injury. There was a whole bunch of airbag recall and IDK if mine was ever replace or if there still a bomb infront of my face when I'm driving...
@@NoReply28Replace your airbag, not remove, unless you wear neck straps helmets and others
I love this channel, Chris does such a great job in the details and easily explains what too do.
Im glad he actually added a disclaimer explaining the legitimate safety hazards around running no airbags on a street vehicle as opposed to just flashing a quick notice on screen. Might have even educated a few people.
I just love how your videos learn me something that i didnt know even existed
Thank you Chris fix I can't wait to have my first car and I will watch your videos every time I need help with it 👍😎👀

Hey Chris! Amazing video! Just a quick correction:
19:25 the angles are the same no matter the steering wheel. what changes is how much you move your arms in relation to the steering wheel's center.
the bigger the wheel, the longer the motion you need to achieve the same rotation degree compared to a smaller wheel.
glad i was'nt the only to notice but i love the video

YESSIR BEEN WAITING FOR THIS 🔥🔥🔥
First and foremost you want the car cold
Then set the meter to DC have the negative cable in the negative terminal of the battery, and use the positive lead of the meter and insert it into the coolant from the radiator.
@@chrisfix Will you ever make a video about it?
@@chrisfix my man you work very hard! Responding to both my replies!? Yes I gotta say though this is my second electrical class. First one being Intro to Electrical Theory and Circuits, and now this one is Intro to electrical applications, so we spend a lot of time learning schematics and how sensors relay information to each other. ChrisFix, you're extremely meticulous and thorough. Awesome video! That being said, it totally caught me off guard when I noticed you using 2 different size wire connectors.
Red connectors 22-18 AWG
Blue connectors 16-14 AWG
That was probably 24 or 26 AWG wire, those big splices really shouldn't be used with wire that small in the first place. But it's just a horn so it really don't matter
26:34 you look like Eminem
24:11 you could have removed the connector and slid it through the larger zip tie loop
