I rolled my 2005 Prius in 2016. By the grace of God, I walked away with no broken bones. Had the car towed to my house, then spent the next few days removing everything from the ac vents to the visors, radio, sunglasses holder, door panels, actuators, covers for the tweeters, glove compartment, rear hatch panel and electric latch actuator, window/door lock controls, cup holders, power button, airbags, hybrid battery, etc. etc. etc. I then organized everything, took pictures and posted everything on ebay. Absorbed a lot of the cost from totaling the car without full coverage. And it was pretty satisfying knowing everything was being put to use and not wasting away in a junkyard in the rain
If you would have cut the catalytic converters off of it about four to six months ago the right person those would have brought you $1,800 hope you didn't scrap the car and leave the Converters on it because they're still worth well over 1,300 right now...!!!!

For some reason, the wires to these speakers were already disconnected. BMW: They were connected, but since you did not pay for the $5,000 sound system upgrade, we disconnected them.
Honestly I don't know why is this the case for BMW drivers. Because I just got a MINI and the indicators are amazing. Subtle and deep clicking sound for indicator sound. What even makes it the best indicator system I've tried is that the indicator goes two clicks each direction. click them once and the indicator indicates 3 or 5 times depending on your settings you selected. This is such a useful feature when I want to change lanes and not have to manually stop the indicator. I just set it to indicate 5 times, so that I let it indicate three times while driving in my lane and then start changing lane while the last 2 indicates are going. Perfect lane change with seamless effort.

The weight is what makes it luxurious. They purposely make the doors heavy so you get the nice thunk when you shut it. also they make the driver side a little higher so when you get in the balance is perfect
I just absolutely love how you inform about the position of each and every screw, bolts and nuts. This isn't just informative, it's helpful and time reducing efforts.
1 pound would be at max 4 pounds, but that only depend on the distance from the center, if you remove a nut for example wont change much but if you change the tyres it would be the max difference
The dry ice part is a nice tip. In the cleaning industry there’s a product used to freeze bubble gum and remove from surfaces. For such a big removal though, dry ice is a great idea.
PRO-TIP : Dry-ice blasting is also incredibly great for blasting under the car to clean remove rust & make the belly shine+ any other mechanical parts like, steering-rack, suspension A-arms & bushings, engine oil-pan, the intricate gearbox housing pattern, remove the dust on brakes+rims just looking like brand new again..
I did it the other way, with a heat gun. It worked also with a hair drier, but it was slow. The rest of the sticky bitumenous crap was cleaned with toulene.

Cris can remove more weight from this BMW since he wants a track car by replacing some heavy metal body parts like: Hood (/Bonnet), Roof & Trunk with lighter fiberglass+reinforced carbon fiber parts and the heavy doors glasses with lighter perxplex then lighter rims and carbon ceramic brakes.. all things will definitely drop the weight even more..

@@JamesBrown-ux9ds - of course you're right about all of that, but it sounds like the sanctioning body and the class he's competing in will limit what he can do. race car drivers go through lots of cardio and endurance training, too, for that exact reason. Low weight and high endurance, especially important for long races.
I build cars in a factory and did quality control for our plant, so none of this was anything new to me. However it was actually really of cool seeing the steps that you saw for assembly being done in reverse for disassembly! It also amazes me just how similar stuff is put together in a BMW sedan vs a GM truck!
You made me recall a comment from senior guy from Chrysler, may be a VP level person saying the Mercedes, BMW and Audi folks procure the parts and sub-assemblies from the same folks from whom we procure and they end up charging a premium. I am not saying the up market cars are not premium, my point is they charge way too compared to certain enhancements they do compared to an ordinary run of the mill cars.
General rule of thumb is that every pound of rotating/unsprung mass is worth about 4 lbs of sprung mass. Unfortunately, there are big consequences to having smaller brakes and tires on the track.
@@jeremyphipps777 He doesn't have to get a smaller wheel. Stock he's probably on aluminum. He could get a forged wheel, increased the diameter size by an inch and still save some weight.
Why not remove the sliding glass and slap some ballstic-grade plexliglass into everything except the driver door (net, obviously) and windshield (actually important, and worth keeping the shatter-proof coated glass)? That would also let you delete the interior trim on the doors, which you stated was only required so that it could contain the glass when the windows are rolled down, and the window motors, which is AT LEAST another 30-40 lbs...
I finally got a 500gb ssd a couple months ago and a 3gb hdd and holy fk am I glad I did. These drives are affordable now for a decent brand. Luckily I don't game that much or else I'd be flat broke, but hell I can barely even download games now because my ISP limits me to 150gb a month and a lot of games are that size now. They have software now so you can easily clone your OS onto the new drive. Everyone likes a fresh install but man that's soooooo much easier. I cloned both my drives. Maybe test your drives with Sentinal to see how much longer you got left, might need to do it soon since some SSD's fall apart quick. And get a cheap HDD dock for your spare drives. Those things are great.
Melt sheets are a massive pain. They are put through an oven before the car gets painted. A putty knife can tear them apart pretty smoothly but you'll scratch up the metal.
True. I used to have a 2011 Camry that was sonically beautiful, music sounded so good in it, couldn't hear much outside. Then I got a 2016 and it was noisy as hell. Even going through the car wash, sounded like a tin can rattling with some change in it and the sound of the music sucked too. Completely different than the 2011.
My old Yaris was so loud on motorway that I used noise canceling headphones on longer drives. But those old 1.3l Toyota engines never consumed motor oil.
When putting a flexible panel like a sunroof delete in, start with the center bolts and work your way out to the corners. Same principle as tightening a cylinder head in the correct sequence to prevent warping.
As a European where stick shift is kind of the standard I cringed at seeing the relatively poor shifting (especially in the second and third 0-60 run). You see the shifter slamming from side to side upon releasing the clutch. Be more gentle. With a manual transmission, you're the one to control the slip between the revving engine and the stationary wheels, where with an automatic you have a torque converter and in a sequential DCT/MCT you have the electronics to do that for you. Additionally I would say,: Don't put that much force into shifting. You can still shift fast if you ease the transmission in the next gear instead of slamming it in. Several transmission parts like the linkage, shifting fork and syncro's will thank you.
@@dreaparn2462 You've never driven a stick shift road car with a regular manual gear gearbox I see. Oh, and I have raced; in a car with a proper racing gearbox engineerd to take a beating.
Imagine being an E46 owner and just having an entire series of how to build your car into a race car made by one of the highest quality auto RUclipsrs at your disposal for free. Y’all are lucky 😂
Replacing the rims would also do alot... just get some really lightweight and you could gain well over 10 hp because the engine won't have to rotate as much weight to get the vehicle moving. This typically has a larger impact than simply removing weight off of the body because it is what the engine spins rather than what it is trying to move.
this is very important, i think its something like "every 10lbs of rotating weight is equal to 100lbs of sprung weight". And those factory aluminum rims are heavy easily 40lbs each, so you can shave off 100lbs in rims alone and drop 1 sec in the 1/4 mile
@@user-gd1mm7gw8k 4 tenths ain't nothing to scoff at from just a rim change, anyways all i was saying was that rotating/ unsprung weight counts a lot more then sprung weight and its a sneaky way to get considerable performance improvements if you're racing in a class that takes weight into account.

That's because it's a BMW not all cars have this much stuff🤡
@@snackler6102 Simply cut it off and sell it on ebay of course!

ye same. my 3 series is sick
And the speedo

100% agree with you there, it’ll make the biggest difference in weight, handling and grip!
Uh he did say at the beginning of the video that he will be replacing the wheels and brakes eventually, but not now, if I'm not mistaken.
General rule of thumb is that every pound of rotating/unsprung mass is worth about 4 lbs of sprung mass. Unfortunately, there are big consequences to having smaller brakes and tires on the track.
And only use 3/5 wheels nuts to save weight. And grind down the driveshafts to make them thinner to save weight.

No ratio is 1:4
Cant get 1s of 1/4 mile, i have tryed 20" vs 15" difference was 0.4s but using better tyres for better grip will help more.
And then u don’t have to take them on and off every time changing tyres
@@user-gd1mm7gw8k 4 tenths ain't nothing to scoff at from just a rim change, anyways all i was saying was that rotating/ unsprung weight counts a lot more then sprung weight and its a sneaky way to get considerable performance improvements if you're racing in a class that takes weight into account.
