But the rules allow to resell some non safety parts and come closer as possible to 500$. Then he sold some of the parts of the cars like the radio, wood, speakers and few more things. Subtract the resell from the initial price and he got 540$ budget car with 4 laps penality. :)
The M54 is one of the most reliable engines to be produced. One of my E46's has 460000 miles and it's still making 160hp to the wheels (325i). BMW makes great engines, electronics however are a different story. That's why older BMW's are so popular with tuners

All of it for maybe like $300-$400 off FCP Euro for the entire process, plus that lifetime replacement for all your parts from them makes it really worth it

I got a 2005 BMW 325i for 2k. It was misfiring, but the body was clean, a few manageable dings and scratches, botched interior, but it was practically rust free. Rare for a used car in my area, so it was a big win. 2 blocks after driving it from the buyer upper radiator hose blew. Had to walk an hour around the city to find a replacement, and use the tools of a friendly old guy to get her going. I knew going in it was going to be a lot of work to make it reliable. So far, I've rebuilt the vanos, replaced the coil packs, sparkplugs, coolant lines, exhaust intake boots, mass airflow sensor, fuel injectors, valve cover gasket, oil filter housing gasket, thermostat, water pump, and flushed and replaced all the fluids. It was frustrating, painful, and freaking awesome.
I thought it was really cool that he had a regular guy at the end who was also going to be helping. It just goes to show that you don’t have to do really awesome things for a living to have fun. Way to go Chris keep up the good work.

I’m a tire tech and I would recommend the continental Xtreem contacts they are aggressive street tire, sticky on the track and where well. They have a tread where of 500-600. AA on traction. A on temp and W speed rating which good for about 160 mph. 👍🏻
This is honestly a very great way for somebody to learn how to work on cars. Just follow thee videos while tearing a car apart, do the race, then expand on your knowledge by learning how to build it back up but in your own way.

You can sell: carpets, side indicators, spare wheel, set with spanners that is in trunk cover, sunroof (you'll remove it anyway), glove box, engine cover (plastic), BMW "kidneys" (silver/black in front of a hood - where you open hood - replace them with mesh) - radio and audio system. Do not know what rules says about: inside door panels, back seats + safety belts and lots of other inside parts.

The E46 is actually pretty reliable. You can find them for sale with extremely high mileage on them with original transmission and motor

I think he is a marine biologists originally turned automotive youtuber who shares his passion for cars and time to both encourage and show people, in detail, how to accomplish their automotive dreams. Seriously, I've been watching this guy for years. His videos have helped me overcome many issues with both my cars and my friend's cars. He is the car guy that we all aspire to be.

I'd recommend selling the outside door trimming, sunroof, power seat motors, mirror heaters, power window motors, check if the trunk has any accessories, the muffler butterfly valve. Best of luck!
