So an opportunity popped up with a really good find, so I went and bought it for $500!!! This really shows you what you can do to find your first project car, find a budget suv, etc with minimal risk and a lot of potential reward!!! We used all common hand tools and did this job at home ourselves! Craftsman was bought by Stanley and now they have decent tools for the price! Worth taking a look at for sure! I messed with the 150 piece set for the first time and I liked it. It got the job done and I think you guys looking for your first set would find it to be a good starter set! Here is the link to the tool sets: bit.ly/2PNfHLS

There is nothing more rewarding than being able to fix your own AND other vehicles. I found CF back in 2015 and got hooked. I began fixing up my car at the time (mk4 golf) and ended up enjoying it so much I went to tech school. Long story short, I am now a mechanic and I have been able to use every single trick in my career that I have learned from ChrisFix. To this day, whenever tackling a new problem, 9/10 times there is a tutorial I can learn from. I turn it on loud in the garage and go to work- It’s like he’s right there with me. Thanks Chris. One of my favorite Chris Fix videos. I liked seeing him tackle the diagnosis and then the repair. In this case he determine 2 electrical components were not working, this led him to check the fuses as that could effect two things at once. Found bad fuse. Replace. It’s starts. Then looking under, you can see an obvious bad muffler left unfixed caused the fuel tank and evaporate issues. Great logical fix here. Plus I have been a Craftsman tool fan for 30 years.

@@chrisfix My family had to replace a gas tank on their truck which is similar to chevy trailblazer. A gmc envoy. The gas tank had a major crack in it which was cause by rust. Our mechanic told us new one is worth more than 800 dollars, and use one is worth anywhere from 100-700 dollars. A week later they called a and told us that it also needed a new fuel filter besides the tank and the pump. My family had to pay $900 dollars. But on the way from the shop while he was at a stop about 15 mins from my house thank check engine came on. My dad told my mom it and my mom called the shop back and my dad took it back up 4 days later. They told us that they a senser that is connected to the newish gas tank is bad and they forgot to check it before they gave our car back. They fix it. They didn't even charge us anything becuase it was part of the work they did. Plus when we were there real reason why it cause 900 dollars was because we had them change our oil as well.

Those are much more involved jobs, but you can do those as well if you have the patience. Checking to make sure the frame is straight and structurally sound and hasn't had repairs done is another that can save you a headache.

This is great how it shows it can be done with hand tools.....Impact wrench might be able to bust loose the bolts without breaking them, but often a torch is the only way, and at that point you're getting into tools more about ease and turnaround time than anything else. In my case exhausts have gotten bad enough the flanges disintegrated into crumbs as soon as I disturbed any one piece, and then it was prudent to just replace the whole thing. Now I try to limit my winter driving on salted roads to just one car as designated rustbucket!

    Hi Chris, electrical speicalist here.
Checking for blown fuses in this manner is dangerous. If an electrical problem with the car may have caused the fuses to blow, this electrical problem may still be present even with the keys turned to the off position.
Checking like you are doing using the resistance setting on your multimeter is remaking the broken fuse, through your multimeter.
If the short is still present, you will now be putting that short current through your meter which could break it.
Furthermore, if you were testing a small amperage fuse in this manner, the multimeter may well be able to take more current than the fuse you are testing, causing an excess short current to flow through your vehicle.
I recommend testing like this with the battery removed only, or better yet, just remove the fuses one by one for a visual inspecion, they make them see through for a reason!
