Matt Furniss's rearrangements of Mortal Kombat 1 & 2 for the Sega Genesis are honestly worth listening.
Matt Furniss does an excellent job at taking Dan Forden's more atmospheric "malevolent kungfu fight scene" sound and turning it into funkier, more catchy fighting game music.
I don't think any one version is better than the other; they compliment each other quite well, but the comparison between the two are certainly interesting.
Some of my favorite video game OSTs of *ALL TIME* are from Mortal Kombat games lol
Great to see you again haha
Yeah MK has some fine tunes. Hope you enjoy the video!
@@dinosulic101 Thanks man! If you do the other MK games that would be OUTSTANDING! (Shao Kshn voice)
This game has underrated stages, always loved the ps2 era music from MK but never got into this clasic stuff. Great video! 🎵🎶🎵
Thank you! The stages are certainly iconic!
While I wouldn't say the MK was not known for its music back in the day, it sure isn't now (MK9, MKX, MK11, even MK1 unfortunately), but when the series was younger and the sound department was mostly just Dan Forden, or later on, Forden with two more composers (usually Rich Carle and Vince Pontarelli), not only was the music dynamic, but the series had unique sound cues that you just wouldn't encounter in other fighting games, like when a round ends, during each different a-lity, segments for each stage track to indicate a fatality or a round end, etc...the first Mortal Kombat is very unique in its direction as it feels like more of a collection of ambient tracks during an ancient ceremony, so while it's not much of a good listen on its own, it's more than serviceable for its purpose, HOWEVER, what comes next would blow it out of the water, especially as we get into MK4 and Deadly Alliance.
Mortal Kombat Video game music is underrated. I love how dark the music is
Yes! I was hoping you would do MK when you finished Tekken. Didn't expect it so soon though. I Hope you at least carry on to Deception, this franchise's old music is underrated.
I definitely plan on covering a few more titles, but as always, it‘s gonna take a while until I reach MK2 and beyond. Stay tuned!
Im really hoping you cover the MK series more especially shaolin monks and armageddon
I'd request the Amnesia: The Dark Descent soundtrack. The sound design was such a key aspect of the game's atmosphere, and the soundtrack is really nostalgic to me. Based on your comments on the Fear & Hunger video, you might not be so familiar with that style of horror games though?
Hey, thanks for the comment! Yeah, I'm not really familiar with horror OST, but that's all the more reason to check them out. I might take a look at Amnesia!
New sub,
In my personal opinion my favorite MK scores are MK3 (and counting its subsequent follows ups Ultimate & Trilogy) and MK4
Thank you for the sub!
I‘ll cover the other classic MK titles at some point, gotta finish up with Tekken first though.
I'd suggest checking out some of the osts for Fatal Fury & King of Fighters which contain imo some of the best soundtracks for not only Fighting games but in all of gaming
yes...yeeeeess...😊
9:16 TOASTY!!!!🤣
The first 3 games have some iconic themes ... from there on there ARE some bangers but very few and far between ... and later dedicated to Cinematicly Oriented themes, which are Not bad, but are NOT For fighting games ....
My favs in MK1 Arcade are the courtyard, warrior shrine and the pit...
I'll leave the rest for the other episodes in the series as it continues hopefully
Thanks for the comment! I will cover a few more Mk games eventually, but it‘s probably gonna take a bit haha
It's a slightly less popular game by a AA studio. But I'd reccomend 'A Plague Tale Innocence' and especially 'A Plague Tale Requiem' for it's OST. The way it uses it's instruments and use of recurring leitmotifs and transformations are stunning. They even use some for the sound effects. They even streamed a live orchestra to celebrate the game. I don't see enough people applauding it's amazing ass music.
Hey, thanks for the recommendation! That sounds very interesting, I'll put it on my list!
@@dinosulic101 The composer even did a walkthrough of Requiem where he talked about what went into make it and how it was implemented into the gameplay.
Please .... please .... Please ... eventually... cover the Evil Zone soundtrack... its a Masterpiece
Nice
Don't know if you'll read this, but pretty much all of the Mortal Kombat games since MK9 (2011) focus on action movie-esq scores rather than truly memorable pieces of music. You'd be much better off focusing on the MK Games before that in my personal opinion, with my personal favorites being MK2, UMK3 and Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance.
Thank you for your input! Once I return to the MK franchise with these reviews, I‘ll keep it in mind!
I haven't watched the video yet but i think the genesis ost is much better than the arcade one. If you dont take a look at it in this vid you should in the future its dope
usao sam u video samo zato sto mi se svidja soundrack iz mk1 i naucio nesto novo
Drago mi je da ti se je dopalo!
I actually think the best version of the original Mortal Kombat soundtrack was from the Sega Mega Drive version.
if possible take a look into ps2 yu gi oh capsule monster coliseum
it is one of my favorites videogame ost
Dude, I love that game! I‘d love to cover, the music is incredible in that game, however I don‘t know if it‘s popular enough, usually people only remember Duelist of The Roses and Forbidden Memories on PS1…
Take a look at the original Rayman?
Funny enough, that was the first game I wanted to cover in this series originally. It‘s on the list for sure!
@@dinosulic101Awesome!
