- input lag (3 frame more online) the only modern fighting game that adds 3 frames of delay to the online mode, and the quality of the network code is also poor and worse than mk11 - PC optimization hasn't fixed it yet, the game drops frames when there is a lot going on on the screen, even on the best cards, and on potato settings these two things decided it for me, everything else is ok for me, I don't play the game anymore and I'm probably going to wait for mk2, this time I won't buy mk2 at launch without testing this things in some demo/beta
I like how nobody's talking about how this 70$ game is monetized like a free mobile game. It's super skeevy and scummy when combined with how expensive all the cosmetics are for their relative value
@@icravedeath.1200 I'm not necessarily blaming NRS, but whoever is responsible (NRS or WB) is money grubbing in a user-unfriendly way that should've never happened in the first place.
@@chris-tianmothman yeah, I truly think Warner Bros fuckin suck (I mean look at how they've been treating their animated material) so I'm not surprised they did this. That's why I got my copy second hand😆😆
The story was terrible. They didn't even have the balls to stick with the reset universe, they just doubled down on the convoluted timeline mess, and jammed in MK Armageddon for whatever reason.
NRS gets praised for its story modes, but they're really only good at presentation. They're obsessed with cheap ideas like reboots, mindless character kills, and cheap recharacterization without much interesting payoff. ...But your average MK player hasn't seen anything better, so it's fine enough for them. At least until the next MK game comes out with an iteratively worse story.
@@BetaComboZ idk about this whining about single player modes. Imagine buying a fighting game and playing offlane game modes. Its like downloading CS and complaining about that it doesn't have any single player modes.
@almie3587 That's a fair point. If you want to make comparisons of the same genre then you could easily compare SF6 and see how much they offer for single players.
They should’ve kept the Krypt, I played it RELIGIOUSLY in MK11, and I have no idea why they didn’t bring it back. Adding onto this, removing the accessories for custom outfits was a HUGE miss for me too.
And the kameo mechanics suck. They tried to reinvent the wheel, one vs one is what everyone wants why mess with that? When it comes to innovating NRS is hit & miss.
@@wadewilson-xi1zs I think the kameo system was put in because people liked the tag team mode back in MK9, but instead of introducing that same idea as an alternative game mode for MK1, they gave us assists that we couldn't opt out of.
Because why would they allow players the chance to earn and spend in game currency, instead it's better for them to actually monetize the only form of store or exchange with REAL MONEY. Inspiration and creativity no longer exists in videogames, it's all about how deep they can get into our wallets. Videogames the way we knew them are dead
Super casual fan here...this is going to sound lame but the reason I didnt get the game was I saw the end story was literally the same end story as MK11 and rolled my eyes. I also saw the campaign was extremely short, saw the downgrade of customization, and the lack of krypt. The price tag on it simply wasn't worth the price of admission especially as a $70 game.
Sf6 had more than 5000 participants in Evo and Tekken 8 had more than 4500 people participate. Meanwhile mk1 only had like 500 participants. It kind of sucked
It’s crazy how every time someone criticizes this game there’s always the glazers that immediately go “hating for the sake of hating” or “tryna be different 🤓” when this behavior is exactly how devs get away with mediocrity or the bare minimum This is a $70 game on next gen consoles, a triple A game company should have no excuse for Mobile game grinding for rewards, atrocious bugs, lack of single player content, and worst of all, MTX.
Yeah, that's true. We have to speak out about the issues so they are aware. It's one thing to hate or criticize a game just because you can (like some other creators) and it's another to point out it's flaws while recommending possible fixes. Because at the end of the day...do you even like the game? If I hated the game I would never had made a video about it.
i agree and can be said for all fighting games. regarding criticism. the stans/famboys can’t handle hearing there favorite franchise isn’t perfect in every way, so they deflect and defend the mediocrity every-time😂
The gore graphics look better but I find it hard to believe that the same people who came up with fatalities for mk11 came up with these fatalities, imo some of these fatalities are just really lame
I mean, there's always some nitpicks in games in general, I don't like the blood texture in 11 for example, also, is Frost a robot? Because she has a human body if you fatality her
I don't mind if we have no Sonya, Kano, and Jax because it will be cool if they were to take a break, and I hate how they gave more screen time for the special forces but seeing Tremor, Cyrax, Shujinko, and probably other people I can't think of from the top of my head hurts to see them as kameos especially tremor and Cyrax
I hated that they kept the Fatal Blow mechanic from MK11. Fatal Blows sucked ass and shouldn't have been connected to health. MKX, with its X-Rays, was superior in every way and could be used more than once during a match.
@BetaComboZ don't get me wrong, I like comeback mechanics like X-Factor in UMVC3 and if NRS put something like that in MK1 with the tag team mechanic from MK9 along with fixing everything you mentioned in the video, MK1 could have been perfect
What you said makes sense the problem with X-rays is that they weren’t useful because you had to spend all your meter for damage you could get meterless.
@deonwokoye true, they could have made X-Rays by buffing the damage they did, but it makes sense for it to cost so much is it a super move, similar to other super moves in other fighting games
I like the fatal blow mechanics bro I did not like how you have to spend a bar that will take your fatal blow away tbh they should keep that the MKX one was actually boring how you need a bar amd the fatal blow on this game is just like X-Rays
@@BetaComboZyeah mk11 had more costumes too which I liked a lot and since I like Sindel in mk11 I got over 40 skins for her like in a day while in mk1 I have like 2 in a few months cause you have to pay real money to get the costume in mk1
Rumors have it that WB is planning to sell mortal kombat, and honestly I want midway to be revived so they can reclaim it to put better care and passion in it than netherwoke studios
Originally I was in fact a hard core mk fan and a casual tekken fan. I am now no longer playing mk1 past 70 hours I have 260 on tekken am now raijin and am more satisfied with it than I’ve been since mkx
Tekken is very straightforward and fun and I'm glad they aren't doing what M1K is doing. Not a fan of how they are handling cosmetics but at least it seems like their main focus is on the game you paid for and not pushing out hundreds of cosmetics and microtransactions to squeeze double the games worth of money out of you.
@@irregulargamer1352this whole thread tbh. Mortal kombat X was the last mortal kombat game where it was my favorite fighter of the gen. Now i just bounce back and forth between SF6 and T8 depending on which one has events and stuff going on. I dont love their monetization but charging $10 for a non-interactive cutscene is just dystopian and gross.
Kameos suck. You're teased with fan favorites you cant actually play and its just another mechanic to complicate the game for casual players. The pacing just feels off.
Kameos should of been just characters like motaro (since he can’t be playable normally) and characters the the chameleons tri-borg shujinko and frost since they steal moves of characters, characters like Serena and tremor as kameos was awful they should of been fully playable
The story was conpletely fine until the multiverse stuff. I'm getting sick of multiverse stories and MK1 should've just focused only on these new versions of the cast. I really miss the Midway timeline ngl.
Multiverse stories completely ruin the stakes. This character dies? They'll just pull them from another universe. Worst ending imaginable? They'll just transport to a different timeline. It's gay
I remember seeing a comment somewhere that said, "kameos feel like the devs said, 'oh you want *(blank character)* Well, here you go, stop asking us now" which kinda makes sense Also, if motor kombat were to come back, you could have it be like Mario Kart double dash where your main character is the driver while the kameo uses the items in the back
I want a complete series reboot. Drop the stupid timeline stuff and just start over. After they start over, I want them to stick with a story for longer than 2 games unlike what they did with X and 11. (This is also coming from someone that usually likes alternate timelines, multiverse, alternate dimension type of stuff)
As a fan of Mortal Kombat, the story was like the main thing that has kept interested. I’m not a big fan of the whole multiverse thing, and with the recent dlc trailer it has left me not interested at all in where these characters go.
Every time I come back to MK1 first thing I do is go check out Warrior Shrine and confirm "Coming Soon..." is still not spelled with a K. They can't even get on brand smh.
_“Let me be clear”_ *disappears* lol Man, your quality level is increasing with every upload. This was super informative and entertaining to watch and I don’t even play mortal kombat. Your writing and script is very cohesive and everything you say just makes sense. You bring up great points about balance and ideas on how this game could be improved for the community. P.S. the reverb fart legit made me laugh
I hope that Mortal Kombat 2 is a sequel to Mortal Kombat 9 - The can get away with that cheeky move. MK9 is just titled "Mortal Kombat." They can also take the best elements of stories that they've tried with 11 and 1, and deliver them without multiverse shenanigans. This only hurts so much because of how contiguous the series was from the first game to Armageddon.
I went to a local arcade and it was unbelievable how many people were there ready to play MK11. Yes, i said Mortal Kombat ELEVEN. MK1 is fun, but its not nearly as good as 11 is.
I used to be a Mortal Kombat fan since MK9. However, when MK11 came out, I liked the gameplay of if, but the story mode was so disappointing and infuriating that it left a bad taste in my mouth. The fact that the characters that I've grown up watching and caring about were going to have everything they've done be for nothing was the worst part of it, but it wasn't enough to make me stop caring about the franchise. The Aftermath expansion did that. Aftermath's story was so bad that it made the regular story mode look good. The way that they basically did the same thing all over again was so eye rolling, and the characterisation of Sindel proved just how terrible the writers are. Sindel was such a great character and an amazing twist on the evil queen character, and then they make her a generic evil queen for no reason whatsoever. That's what tipped me over the edge to make me stop being a Mortal Kombat fan. If they're going to create these amazing characters and then have everything they do be for nothing and write out the good parts of the characters that make them unique, then I don't want to be there to see the ruins of a franchise that I once invested so much of my heart into. It's so bad that Street Fighter has basically won me over despite not even playing SF6 yet, having laughable collaborations, and only playing one Street Fighter game years ago when I was a kid (that game was Street Fighter X Tekken).
I can completely see that perspective. The characters being rewritten over and over can be tiring for sure. The Sindel treatment was one of my few complaints from that story so I agree with you on that. Ultimately, MK did was the MCU has been doing...but they did it first...and then like 2 other times. Consequences don't feel like consequences anymore if you're able to just reboot the entire timeline. Sadly, I think one of the main reasons people stick to SF or Tekken for as long as they do is because of the legacy factor. 99% of the time the stories stay the same with more added on and the overall fighting mechanics are only improved on. Never completely changed. Mortal Kombat is by far the bigger of the 3 when it comes to "brand awareness", but they don't keep an audience for very long and I think that's due to what you said and I said. Nothing carries over and the stories end up not mattering so I think people stop caring. My only hope is they continue to improve and find a place where everyone is at least content. That would be the best case scenario. (Again, it's a hard ask lol)
Oh, here we go again. The whining about Sindel "retcon". I don't think Sindel was retconned, she is classic Sindel there. And her Aftermath story was pretty fun.
The fact the fights arent 1 on 1. The removal of customization the fact they monetize the shit out of this. The fact they changed an awesome story that people became really familiar and involved with and completely rearranged it. The fact that in mk11 the end fight of every klassic tower is kronika where half of your normal attacks dont work. The fact they jack up the price for sub par performance.
Such a shitty fucking game my God you're absolutely right too those mini games are garbage test your might and the survive one oh the survive one is the worst game I've ever played in my life
@@christopherstokes1036 I mean you can just walk past the minigames and just go to the next fight. I actually like MK1, I'm actually happy with what we got. The only real problem is the censorship on Nitara's classic costume (and her voice). Also who wants Mk9 female skins? raise your hands. 🤚
M1K feels like it wasn't supposed to be a fighting game. Like, it feels like NRS had the story fleshed out and written first and then they were like "Well shit, what do we so with it now? Another fighting game, I guess." This would have been infinitely better if it was a beat-em-up or an ARPG.
@@BetaComboZ Given how a lot of the story is broken up into parties of characters with you being able to choose one from the cast for the final battle, it would have been a no brainer. Or maybe a hybrid system like what Smash Bros did with Subbspace Emmisary.
Id much rather nrs just hired a studio or team that can make a half decent fighting game , they have sucked for so long. Mk x was ok but really mk hasn’t been genuinely great since Armageddon . They should just re release umk trilogy with rollback
This games character modeling is bad too, and nobody talks about it. MK X has an edgy feel that you'd fully expect from mid 2010's gaming on PS4 and Xbox One, while MK 1 looks like it's afraid of offending anyone. It looks like the devs wanted to make an all enclusive Politically Correct friendly game, and the models suffer for it.
DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ABOUT THE ANIMATIONS! LOL Sadly, they have been reusing animations for a really long time. Overall, I don't hate the character models. Some of them are soooo sick (Reptile), but functionality is another thing.
bought this and only beat the story and played online a little. I'm 30 and played all the other games and it feels like this crap just gets worse every release. Uninstalled and went to SF6 and never came back .
Not in the Takeda update it feels like you can finish it in a day. I got past 3 mesa's in a day, and I left it, and I came back and got through 2. At this point, I'm going to finish it when I hop on again
People are starting to realize that micro transactions in MK ( mostly not MICRO at all ) are going to be thousands of dollars by the time the next title launches. Maybe they will launch with " MORTAL KOMBAT 13_ if you're broke f*ck off ! "
what's better is that i own the game on ps5 and picked up on PC on sale, linking my wb account on ps5 worked fine, for some reason, I had to link my game account again on PC, using the same WB account I already had linked, even picked my PlayStation progress to keep and use, then when multiversus had their bug with crossplay, I unlinked and relinked my account, completely wiped both PC and console progress, so now I can only play on PC unless I wanna grind the story for the 4th time to get my main havik, because i'd beaten story already once for both, and caved and did it again on PC after it first happened, then realized all my data and IN GAME PURCHASES for Ps5 are wiped
Your videos just keep getting better and better man. I loved this one. It's still a good watch even though I rarely play these types of games. Your edits are so good. I can tell you put a lot of work and time into what you do. Can't wait to see more!! 💛
Because we gave our liver to buy this game and there's not a single one content beside invasion after a freaking year! And that's just one of the major problems of this game...
MK is hated because old school gamers are chasing nostalgia. And new gamers are comparing it to MK9. Everyone is trying to fight a battle that is a lost. PUBLISHERS do not care about the players. It’s about money. That’s it. @22:33 that’s the problem right there. You are letting them know that it’s ok to charge for something that should be in-game.
the problem with kameo system is that most of the main roster are not complete character, baraka has not an hit conferm, not a safe special move, he needs the kameo, there is no way he can be played without
Unfortunately it’s probably not NRS making the bad calls. It’s WB getting greedier and greedier with every release. And it’s really back firing on them currently
I think the real reason people hate kameos, is that they made characters not work without a kameo, which sure it's an assist game, but that limits a lot the amount of combinations you can use.
Strangely, assist games typically make more characters viable on the roster...but yes the issue being that you can't play as the Kameo and you can't play without it during the match.
@@BetaComboZ it's not really that, the problem is that if we were to like not use the kameos, you would notice that the normal characters for the most part are too incomplete, I would go as far to say that kaemos are the best assist in any game, but they made the characters in a way that they can't work without a kameo, cause they lack too much they are incomplete, and the most op characters are only strong because they are more complete not broken, that's why many kameos are never used not just because they're bad, but because many characters can't work withhout a certain kameo cause they lack certain things only a few kameos can provide, and characters like johnny that aren't complete but close to complete, ye they have more freedom to choose any kameo they want, but don't expect to see many anyways, cause the game has become so exxclusive to very few characters and kameos that it gets repetitive anyways.
MK11 is far superior. Young people like MK1 more because it's easy to exploit, and combos have been dumbed down significantly. If they had stuck with the same ideas as MK11 and added more customizable options, I would've been happy, but now every fight, no matter who you play against, looks identical to the last fight. Everyone does the same mobe stringsvand it's lame. Extremely lame. I'm not a "casual" player either. I'm an original player. From an era where we spent so many nights trying to discover fatalities my friends haven't previously seen. Paying for more Fatalities and the idiots that spend the money to do so have ruined the experience for us original MK fans.
Kameo is like having to learn 2 different characters to play one character. Daunting for casuals. I only played the first season of invasions and it was very boring. I saw it coming immediately when the mode was first announced, I hated it because it felt so bad compared to mk11's mode. Probably the worst problem for me are the teleporting superheroes. I also very dislike the sensored fatalities. 7 fps in menus are also poison for me.
@@kivivikix These are some really good points. It's sad that this game (regardless of effort) came out in such a state when so many players don't like it. You hate to see it.
Tbh, MK1 would have so much potential to have a story mode and extra content more like SF6. That kind of mode would've been so much more with MK due to the higher casual base, like so many people would be able to create character can train under different characters as you go, have your own character to wander the krypt and so much more. So many bad choices to increase or keep casual audience that they are targeting at. They also really need to update how they do animation if they continue to choose on going more onto how real the character looks, so many characters looks so choppy and awkward.
Mk1 mechanic are better than mk11 but the Cameo on mk1 it destroyed most character because they depended on certain cameo instead of the reverse where the cameo should be enhancing the your character
Mortal kombat feels like a game that mimics fighting games. It's an FG-like at best. You can immediately notice this when you play games from competent devs like SF6, Tekken and Strive. You can't fault NRS for this, because they're just not as good as the Japanese
I can't agree entirely here. The dev team are actually really wonderful people (I've met several of them). Sure, some blame has to go their way...but to say the Japanese devs are better is a bit of a stretch. I think it feels this way because of the comparison with other big titles, but if you look at numbers alone WB/NRS has made WAY more money than the others. The popularity of MK is undefeated in the fighting game genre. As an avid player of many many fighting games I appreciate the diversity between each game. They all have their goods/bad, but MK this round has more bad than preferred lol
@@BetaComboZ I'm talking purely from a fighting game design perspective. While MK sells more copies amongst causals, people don't buy MK because it's a solid fighting game. That would be like saying people buy guilty gear because of how it favors defensive players. They buy mk for dumb fun, gore and lore, which I can appreciate to be fair. The Japanese way of making fighting games very clearly trumps what NRS is doing in every way. Even games with broken characters like strive feel well designed from the ground up. Just looking at the competitive scene of mk, how broken the balancing is and the evo numbers tells you all you need to know. I'm sure the devs are good people but I will die on the hill that they don't even play fighting games. At best, MK is wasted potential. But to each their own I guess lol
I really love mk11, mkx and mk9. I don't understand why they can't bring back tag team thing from mk9 or crypt and customisation from mk11. I loved these things. And even mk11 that is really hated worth less than mk1, but have so much content in it
Invasions could have been so much more fun, but they left it on basic idea. Imagine making it a roguelike run, where you choose your path you gonna fight and you will be gathering power and modifiers. Something like Slay the Spire. AND there are foundations for making it work!
@@BetaComboZ yes! You could even pick that, and rhe walk away taunts. As far as customization 11 was the amazing. Gameplay, yeah, x was way better. But why, in today's gaming landscape would somebody be okay with receiving less? Was honestly hoping 1 would just x gameplay with 11 customization
I'm a really big old-school MK fan, but I'm as casual as it gets with the new stuff. I think that locks me out of enjoying MK1 (and by extension, MKX and MK11) is the lack of viable play outside of highly practiced technical combos. I suppose in my older years, I just don't have the time/patience/skill to learn these things; I just want to play the game and feel good playing it. This is exactly why I really enjoyed SF6, in contrast: I don't need to memorize huge strings that only work when the opponent has a certain amount of meter, I can "punch with left fist" with Zangief and feel like I'm actually playing the game.
The Mortal Kombat tournament is 1v1 in the lore and MK9 had a fully functional tag system as an option. MK1 should've been a 1v1 game with a tag game mode. Besides the fact that it's broken and half of the new character releases are just assists, THAT IS WHY PEOPLE HATE THE CAMEO SYSTEM.
@@BetaComboZ The cameo system is the incomplete tag mode that was supposed to be an extra in a 1v1 game (like Mk9 and MK11. The individual characters, themselves, are incomplete, with most of them being near unplayable without assists. Furthermore, a company that can't balance a 1v1 game has no business making an assist game. There REALLY good reasons to wish that the cameo system never existed with the main one being that it might ruin MK2 too.
@@similaritiesendhere That's a good point. Hopefully this is a good learning curve for them. Especially with the rumors from a while back with them making an assist based Marvel game haha. I don't think they'll be able to continue with the Kameo system in the next game unless they give both options. It's the only way I see it happening.
@@BetaComboZ Ed Boon has rebooted the timeline like what, 3 times in 4 games? He's ran out of ideas a long time ago. It's so bad that: 1. the sacred tournament lets you use assists 2. Kuai Lang is Scorpion now for no reason 3. Liu Kang made Raiden the chosen one instead of letting him retire I don't care anymore. Anyone still playing MK or making apologetic videos about it is choosing to not play better games (SF, Tekken, KoF, DBZ, Guilty Gear, etc). MK1 is not even the best assist game. It's pathetic to watch and I bet John Tobias is laughing his ass off.
My issue with the kameos is not so much that it doesn't feel like MK. My issue with them is the fact that I would like to play as many of the characters who are simply locked behind being a kameo...
hmm for anyone really wondering, go look at Multiversus by the same publishers. and then wonder what could possibly be holding this game and the developers back. it isnt subtle and its no wonder! The gake is run by greedy Ceos and their underpaid underlings, MK as a whole is good MK1 just aint it though.
The cameo fighter thing isn't bad I guess. It's enjoyable enough to mess around with, I'm not upset or anything that they put it in, but I also wouldn't miss it at all if it never came back again in future MK games.
We really need to stop the "I hated playing MK11; MK1 is better playing" trope. If it was better playing, people would be playing it. They're not. They bailed almost ASAP. Even harder than MK11.
I grinded the Reptile season of Invasions and got +75k of golden coins to use them in the Shrine. I was "wow, I will get 75 items from it in the new season right away". I got 8 Kung Lao skins and a message "Shrine is empty" Go back next season.
I really got into MK with 9 and I really liked how the game was gory and sexy and while they been going to a more realistic look sense then, in MK1 is the first time that I have not liked the character designs. Even returning costumes look bad in my opinion and I was not happy seeing the classic costumes for Nitara and Lee Mei for the 10 dollars and tone down 😒
@@aryelrosa4829 I really like Reptile new design with him being a shapeshifter and Mileena being more tarkatan but outside of that almost everyone else feels like a downgrade for me.
The kameo system could have worked if every character was a kameo. Instead this feels like "how can we have all the classic characters without actually doing any work" it's a fighting game if a character is in the game you should be able to use that character.
My personal opinion on MK1 is that its a Case of STYLE over SUBSTANCE, feeling like a quick cash-in for WB and NRS before T8 came in and stole all the thunder, and most egregiously, the ridiculous pricing for mediocre skins & fatalities. Hell, I’ll argue that MK11 characters look better than in MK1 (also MK11 gave us Unintentional Gay Icon Daddy Kano) If MK11 had the gameplay of MKX, it would be regarded as the GOAT MK Game. I’ll NEVER understand why NRS need to re-invent the wheel with the gameplay & character fighting styles.
I didn't hate MK11, I didn't love it either, but what really killed it for me was having all of my save data wiped after clearing the Krypt. All I could do was sit there and think about how: that dumb shit shouldn't be possible, I wasn't going to be receiving an ounce of help from the support team, and that NRS would never be getting my money again.
GAMEPLAY WISE: MKX was super fast-paced with 50/50 combo mixups.. Then people later said it was too over the top, broken. and wasn't balanced enough..... Mk11 was more balanced with lesser combo potential than mkx. Then people started to complain that it wasn't fun by wanting more freedom to do more combos and wanting it to be more fast-paced....... And with Mk1 being less strict with the combo potential and even adding back air combos in the mix that weren't present since Armageddon in the 3D era people are complaining about the kameo system even though they contribute to the raised combo potential in the game..... Moral of the story, Some. people simply just favor one mk game over another. and/or some people only ask for things as far as the gameplay is concerned and win majority of their matches in the beginning thinking what they can do will help them get over on others every single time online until they go up against players who uses the tools they asked for more efficiently than them. Then it's a problem for them and they complain without really giving much details to how and why the game is horrible to them all of a sudden when they swore up and down that it was the next best thing since sliced bread just a few days ago.... So the question is which one are you??? A. The one who since the launch of the current game. simply favors and prefers one Mk game over another no matter the W/L ratio. B. The one who enjoys the game until they start losing to players who take the time out to go into practice mode and lab. or.... C. Someone who really doesn't know wtf they want and will never truly come to an agreement on how a Mortal Kombat game should be made....
In terms of Identity, I definitely think it's the biggest problem this game suffers from. A lot of the mechanics that made MK9 and MKX so good are pretty much gone in this game. No variations, no goofy shit like MK9's inconsistent frame data, the cameos being (in my opinion) a far worse system than MK9's Tag Team. Don't get me wrong, I really like the story and the direction they took some of the characters, especially redesigns such as Reptile's. But this feels much more like.. I dunno, Injustice 1 but worse? It's kind of isolating for a fanbase. Not to mention that the DLC characters have been pretty lackluster in comparison to what MK has been known for the last few games, y'know movie icons and such. Like... not even a single one? I know they probably got more DLC coming but come on. MK9 had Freddy Kreuger, MKX had Jason, MK11 may of not had horror icons exactly but they had Terminator and Rambo. This is what MK is known for. If we wanted super heroes or villains wouldn't of we have just played Injustice xd
23:20 the age old lie of "live service" the idea of "later it'll be good" copium MK11 was mediocre at best but the bar got so much lower its look back as if its good, it still bad and predatory in the same ways just less the game should be avoided, just FOMO and brand allegiance keeping some from leaving, let it die out
Mk1 doesn't have freedom, caracters doesn't do much after you figured out the meta of the game. And Kameos in MK takes the "personal" aspects of the fighting. Is like if SF had "assist" and air combos. (Air combos looks stupid in Mk1)
The cameo system would probably be more palatable to the casual audience; I’d imagine, if the game removed the block button and used traditional hold back block.
you fight 5 johnnys dude id take him over fighting omni man on repeat for hours having the players just use his fly move pouncing me once time running out the clock every time now i play MK1 i just leave on omni man BS
As a casual I initially didn't love MK11 because of MKX but for some reason I hated MK1 and ended up enjoying MK11 more. Kameos change a whole lot of the gameplay, you need to learn a secondary move set and how to combo it with the main character, learn how the combinations work when facing a opponent too. At first it seemed like it would be really good for the game but for some reason it decreases the 1v1 fun for me. I know many people love it but it didn't cut for me, I would prefer a tag team system much more than Kameos.
That's a pretty hot take haha Interestingly enough, a lot of people would argue 90% of the time the games are made mainly with the casual fan base in mind. Interesting topic for a future video though!
I think fighting game is the wrong genre to have this complain tbh. At its core fighting game is always competitive and Esport scene doesn't change that

Netherrealm Studios wasn't a thing until the Mortal Kombat reboot. The studio became a thing in 2010, and their first game was Mortal Kombat 2011. I know what you were trying to say when you said you played all the Netherrealm Studios games, but if that's the case, you're only looking at 4 main Mortal Kombat games (2011, X, 11, 1)
@jethromason8160 Yeah, this is a point a couple people have made lol I should have been more clear and said Midway/NRS. I'm aware of the change when WB acquired them. Thanks for looking out!
Honestly I love MK11 BECAUSE of the gameplay, I love the pacing I love the crushing blow mechanics, and I love how fun most of the characters are. MKX has way better gameplay I'll admit, but MK11 IMO I felt was a lot more fun. Unlike MK1 where I was bored with how it plays. 19:10 you bring up Friendships in MK11 when it xomes to NRS selling us certain features but the Friendships cost nothing cause it was a free update.
Oh absolutely. That was an example of something they should give us for free. I only mentioned it because the Holiday Fatalities are also "special" finishers, but they sold them to us instead. I really hope we get Animalities 🙏 See, that's the thing. A lot of people love MK11 and it's proven to be true due to people STILL streaming and playing it today.

- input lag (3 frame more online) the only modern fighting game that adds 3 frames of delay to the online mode, and the quality of the network code is also poor and worse than mk11
- PC optimization hasn't fixed it yet, the game drops frames when there is a lot going on on the screen, even on the best cards, and on potato settings

NRS gets praised for its story modes, but they're really only good at presentation. They're obsessed with cheap ideas like reboots, mindless character kills, and cheap recharacterization without much interesting payoff. ...But your average MK player hasn't seen anything better, so it's fine enough for them.
Kameos suck. You're teased with fan favorites you cant actually play and its just another mechanic to complicate the game for casual players. The pacing just feels off.
If the Kameos were playable then I think people would feel different about it.
Kameos should of been just characters like motaro (since he can’t be playable normally) and characters the the chameleons tri-borg shujinko and frost since they steal moves of characters, characters like Serena and tremor as kameos was awful they should of been fully playable

I hope that Mortal Kombat 2 is a sequel to Mortal Kombat 9 - The can get away with that cheeky move. MK9 is just titled "Mortal Kombat."
They can also take the best elements of stories that they've tried with 11 and 1, and deliver them without multiverse shenanigans.
It's been pretty clear how much people liked that game.
Its so sad that they never make the feeling of the MK X punches and impact again.
That's so true. The impact of hits in MKX felt soooo good.
@@BetaComboZ completely agree

the problem with kameo system is that most of the main roster are not complete character, baraka has not an hit conferm, not a safe special move, he needs the kameo, there is no way he can be played without
Unfortunately it’s probably not NRS making the bad calls.
I agree, a mk character should never feel like they can't get out of the mud without a good kameo
Injustice 3: Kombat among us
Every Brutality Defines You
Kameo is like having to learn 2 different characters to play one character.
This!! Luckily, we just had a huge patch that buffed some Kameos so I'm really hoping that changes!!
And even mk11 that is really hated worth less than mk1, but have so much content in it
I’ve been playing mk9 a lot recently and I love the tag team I main baraka and skarlet and It’s just so much faster then mk 11 and 1
This game is a mess from the top. Doesn’t help that the fatalities are terrible. And the cameos cut out interesting characters too.
It would be nice if Kameos were interchangeable with the main roster :(
Invasions could have been so much more fun, but they left it on basic idea.
Imagine making it a roguelike run, where you choose your path you gonna fight and you will be gathering power and modifiers. Something like Slay the Spire.
AND there are foundations for making it work!
@@YoungSweezy Now THAT is an original take on it. I really really like that!
I can't believe there are actually people out there that hated getting gear in 11. Oh, you don't like more stuff? What a fun person you must be
The intros/outros were incredible.
I hate how the removed custom intros and outroz
@youngflyest7007 That was something I LOVED about MK11. Probably my favorite feature from that game.
I would have LOVED a tag mode system.
It's so bad that:
1. the sacred tournament lets you use assists
2. Kuai Lang is Scorpion now for no reason
3. Liu Kang made Raiden the chosen one instead of letting him retire
I don't care anymore.
Yeaaahhh. Being able to play as the kameos would be nice.
@@BetaComboZ At least from my perspective. Which is a casual perspective!
Couldn't have said it better myself. Like you I've been playing the series my whole life from the beginning. This one feels slightly off.
hmm for anyone really wondering, go look at Multiversus by the same publishers. and then wonder what could possibly be holding this game and the developers back.
it isnt subtle and its no wonder! The gake is run by greedy Ceos and their underpaid underlings, MK as a whole is good MK1 just aint it though.
WB is evil. Don't let their lego games fool you either lol
@@BetaComboZ I worry for Lego Batman 4.
@@BlurXIIILego Batman 3 got rid of the open world didn't it?
Kinda preferred the 2nd Game more because of that.

I'm cooking up a long one right now so look forward to it!
dont play mortal kombat but respect that hot garage hustle, subscribed
Real shit
The cameo fighter thing isn't bad I guess. It's enjoyable enough to mess around with, I'm not upset or anything that they put it in, but I also wouldn't miss it at all if it never came back again in future MK games.
Love the hot-as-hell garage studio with the baby chair in the background. That's dedication, homie. 👊🏼 🔥
@@EdwardVGrimm Gotta make it happen regardless 💪
My guy … Mk1, Mk11, Mkx and Mk9 are the only ones developed by NRS, The rest of them from Mk Vs Dc on back were made by midway …
You're absolutely right! I should have clarified that at the start. Midway was a goated era of MK.
Even returning costumes look bad in my opinion and I was not happy seeing the classic costumes for Nitara and Lee Mei for the 10 dollars and tone down 😒
The game definitely doesn’t have the best designs. There’s only a few good character designs in the game.
@@aryelrosa4829 I really like Reptile new design with him being a shapeshifter and Mileena being more tarkatan but outside of that almost everyone else feels like a downgrade for me.
@@cloudmv15 Especially Shang Tsung’s design. NRS could’ve done better with his design. His design is like a 5 or 6/10
The kameo system could have worked if every character was a kameo. Instead this feels like "how can we have all the classic characters without actually doing any work" it's a fighting game if a character is in the game you should be able to use that character.
The game honestly feels draining.
I agree. It needs something to breathe life into it.
My personal opinion on MK1 is that its a Case of STYLE over SUBSTANCE, feeling like a quick cash-in for WB and NRS before T8 came in and stole all the thunder, and most egregiously, the ridiculous pricing for mediocre skins & fatalities.
Hell, I’ll argue that MK11 characters look better than in MK1 (also MK11 gave us Unintentional Gay Icon Daddy Kano)
If MK11 had the gameplay of MKX, it would be regarded as the GOAT MK Game.
@DilosEkens that's insane man. Really hate to hear it :(
GAMEPLAY WISE: MKX was super fast-paced with 50/50 combo mixups..
B. The one who enjoys the game until they start losing to players who take the time out to go into practice mode and lab.
or....
C. Someone who really doesn't know wtf they want and will never truly come to an agreement on how a Mortal Kombat game should be made....
as a Strive player... im very sad.
seriously, come to the anime and rock side of the force

@@scorpionqueen11 We can only hope! (WB is really who we need to worry about)
@@BetaComboZ Agreed. Money hungry corporations ruin everything (unless they get it right, lol).
I couldn't agree more my friend!
23:20 the age old lie of "live service" the idea of "later it'll be good" copium
MK11 was mediocre at best but the bar got so much lower its look back as if its good, it still bad and predatory in the same ways just less
the game should be avoided, just FOMO and brand allegiance keeping some from leaving, let it die out
Let’s just pray that year 2 brings mk1 in a better direction 🙏🏽
That's what we are all hoping! (I'm thinking we are about to hear some big changes.)
Jup this was the one game that drove me to SF6 💀 ( i only touched NRS fighting games prior MK1 released )
Mk1 doesn't have freedom, caracters doesn't do much after you figured out the meta of the game. And Kameos in MK takes the "personal" aspects of the fighting. Is like if SF had "assist" and air combos. (Air combos looks stupid in Mk1)
Yeah I think it feels that way due to the Khameleon and Cyrax waves from before. I don't think it will continue to feel that way.
The cameo system would probably be more palatable to the casual audience; I’d imagine, if the game removed the block button and used traditional hold back block.
@bqing87 That's an impossible ask, considering every MK having a block button. It's one of the only legacy inputs the game has, haha.
you fight 5 johnnys dude id take him over fighting omni man on repeat for hours having the players just use his
fly move pouncing me once time running out the clock every time now i play MK1 i just leave on omni man BS
Omni-Man is a terrible matchup for me haha I understand
Same man I try to fight but then I realize I’m getting no where
As a casual I initially didn't love MK11 because of MKX but for some reason I hated MK1 and ended up enjoying MK11 more.
Yeah, that's the overall consensus I've gotten online.
Esports is the cancer of gaming every thing they touch turns to shit
That's a pretty hot take haha Interestingly enough, a lot of people would argue 90% of the time the games are made mainly with the casual fan base in mind. Interesting topic for a future video though!
I think fighting game is the wrong genre to have this complain tbh. At its core fighting game is always competitive and Esport scene doesn't change that
not really a lot of good games get esports following. its a problem if game is designed to be an esports
MK1 taught me to never preorder a game ever again. 😒

I really hope we get Animalities 🙏
See, that's the thing. A lot of people love MK11 and it's proven to be true due to people STILL streaming and playing it today.
