Classic FGC moment, where the previous games is suddenly gods gift to mankind and the new game sucks. And all the issues of the previous games are forgotten or downplayed
Its more that the old games are how people entered the scene. So if the new game gets stale ofc people go back to the old ones which made them love the FGC and fighting games so much. It makes perfect sense to me
@@Hunt9-qb1ifThat's a bit of an absolutist way of thinking and part of the problem... I'm gonna have to agree with Varan on this one. Whether you chalk it up to nostalgia, sunk cost fallacy, familiarity, or a genuine love for the game - that's their choice. Just as it is for you liking 6. And honestly, who tf cares? If someone starts hating on SF6 and wants to go back to 5 or 4, that ain't got nothing to do with me. I genuinely wish them fun.
It's frustrating, considering we're basically at the new golden age of fighting games. MK, SF, Tekken, KOF and even VF is making a return. There even more variety than ever before, but all I see is community continually complaining about how Game A is dead, and if you we're talking about MK1, it apparently died more times than Kenny from South Park, it gets old real quick.
We're no where near a golden age, get that out your mind right now. Since the golden age had these companies legit competing versus themselves more so than their rivals. NRS just gave up on MK1. SF6 and T8 are not favored atm. People that love KOF love KOF is still adding characters but the greater FGC don't care. Sure there's Fatal Fury yet like ALL SNK releases how many weeks until those "SNK fans" are back playing Street Fighter since the new SNK game had an "issue" VF is in the SAME boat VF was harder to play then Tekken and DOA. Now people acting like they're gonna hang around...
SF V was hot garbage at launch and I'm tired of people gaslighting themselves into saying the game was flawless. The amount of time it took for the game to redeem itself was huge
No one says this though. Ive never seen one person say sfv was this godlike fucking game since launch. No one says that. SFV turned into a really fun game like two years before sf6 came out.
@@guutenks2498 MKX was the same way until around the time Injustice 2 came out. People forget how broken and annoying MKX was at launch. Even post launch it was more like an Esports title with a very high learning curve for casual players. People look at MKX like it was the holy grail when that game had/has glaring issues. Especially for non competitive players. People also don’t want to admit that Sonic Fox was a big selling point for MKX with Erron Black
@highdeff17 Nope. The game play and the content sold that game. Not Sonic fox. The majority are casual players and they don't even know or care who he is. Stop glazing.
Not even just fighting games... Any game for that matter. Just wait until the price drops and then grab it... It's amazing how much smoother expectations can be when you're not shelling out $60 for half a game.
That’s a great point the greedy practices of companies esp fighters is really annoying. We get too hyped n want our new fighter at launch but your right it’s actually a very silly move.
Kind of depends, like I really enjoyed DNF Duel on launch when everyone was still learning how to play. I bet someone picking it up now would only have people who know the ins and outs of it left really. It only really works if the game is big enough to keep new people coming or if you're willing to commit to a lot of prep before really getting involved.
@DWFTW Dats another thing. That's if you wanna play online against randoms. Sometimes you gotta get yo friends in or find people online who willing to play. I dont mean to discourage anyone from playin ranked or anything like that, but if you not gonna be playing at the higher levels, a game is goin to end up like that regardless. Especially with how frequent new games are droppin
Honestly social media is good overall. People just need to learn to just appreciate other people and be polite to one another whether it's online or in person. There's no need to be a jerk to someone just cause they're text on a web page somewhere to you. Someone is probably/possibly gonna read that... don't be a dick lol that's bassically all it boils down to. But people don't know how to have conversations anymore cause it's harder to talk and think about what you're saying AND what the other person is saying rather than just saying what you're saying and if they contradict you to say it again LOUDER!!! lol
@@Grimbear13 also yeah but bottom line is Grimbear people just need to stop with the bullshit excuses of not making time to go by each other's houses to have Hangouts when it comes to like doing fun activities playing games and try to make time and make the effort I know people can do this. Online FGC is miserable, predictable and pathetic. They always focus on the wrong things. The fact we place so much weight into top player opinions sucks, especially the ones with an unchecked ego.
hate on community, for real that makes so much sense. you are literally doing the same thing as them, you are focusing on the wrong things. yeah hate the player, not the game.
Totally agree, the people that really sustain any video game are the casuals, top players are 0.1% of the playerbase and their opinion shouldn't be elevated to such high regards. If the average casual player is enjoying the game, that's what matters the most.
@@brunoxd151gets it! Most of these content creators talk about characters and mechanics being trash, but in reality that is only true for the 1% you are talking about. I use these "low tier" character all the time and have plenty of fun and win just as much as with any other character. When they released the data for Smash it showed every single character having damn near 50% win rate, which should have shut up all these "pros" talking about trash characters. As tier list only matter for sweaty try-hards, and their options carry little weight.
Watched this live and Max hit it right on the head. Its always a cycle and whats made it worse is that people make it their identity with hating on things. Take his advice, play what you like and if something is making you feel that mad, take a break. It's okay to play and enjoy other things, youre not forced to only love one thing like social media would have you fooled.
@muovikallo pretty much every fighting game is being hated by its own terminally online part of the community. DBFZ players hated their game, GG players hate their game, Tekken players hate their game, etc, etc. The only reason why virtua fighter 6 is not hated yet is because its not out yet. It’s pointless to even look at online discussions even about the biggest and most popular fighting games at this era when you’re only a cool kid if you hate the new things.
I think the mentality comes from other genres. If game sequel is not “better” than the original upon reflection, it’s not considered a good sequel. The nuance of “different” is lost on many, and fighting games like Alpha 2 and 3rd strike a different in a good way from 6. They can all exist in the good category at the same time
It reminds me of a video RelaxAlax did years ago about Video Game opinions online. He talked about how people act like everything has to be catagorized as either good or bad and there ist no inbetween.
SF3 comes out "its not as good as SF2T" SF4 comes out "its not as good as SF3rd Strike!" SF5 comes out "its not as good as USF4" SF6 comes out "its not as good as SF5CE" I'm sure by the time SF7 comes out, we'll have people vehemently arguing over whether its current state is as good as the last updated version of SF6 lol
I think that's not even the root cause. The problem is the social media bandwagon effect where people subscribe to these narratives just to be a part of something without really critically thinking through it themselves. So they basically "download" the belief of others just to be a part of some movement, it's a terrible sickness right now, and even people like Max, content creators in general, contribute to it whether they like it or not.
@@steel5897Its also because the bad part of the FGC itself can be really toxic. So when you combine toxic social media habits with the toxic part of the FGC, shit will be too unbearable to the average person. Its definitely up there in terms of the worst of the worst a fandom could get.
Content creation can be the bane of positivity when you have all this time to play the game and you force yourself to play it for content because its "your job"
@@ken.7019at least he doesn’t pretend to like something he dislikes. Which is more than I can say for all the Sfv shills who dropped the game the moment sf6 came out 😂
Screw the community, the developers LITERALLY addressed almost all the issues people had with SFV and more, they added single player content, they added fan favorites back like the traditional world warriors, they gave the game a stylish presentation with a kickass urban soundtrack like 3rd strike fans where begging for, and people STILL are so spoiled and aren’t satisfied. It’s a never ending cycle, you will never make people happy, so who cares anymore at this point, I still enjoy the game and I think it’s the best street fighter from a presentation perspective.
I do think the soundtrack is overall a step down from previous games. Not awful, but most of the songs are just not too catchy and memorable, but other than that it really is an improvement over V in almost every way. The artstyle and presentation are amazing, netcode is flawless, the drive system is fun to use, and it has arguably the best single player content in any fighting game
It makes me glad that I'm a casual player when it comes to fighting games. Most of the things for mechanical changes that get ppl so up and rowdy just goes right over my head.
Same here. I have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. Saying SF6 is bad and worse than SF5. I like 6 and got interested in learning other characters I never even thought about before. I don't even know what they're using to evaluate games.
The problem is further exacerbated by the problematic nature of capcom drip feeding features/mechanics/characters/colors etc. The old game is a complete experience with all feature character costumes colors etc etc, the new one is bare-bones, short on features, is probably suffering from some balance issues, doesnt have "your" favorite character etc. I like sf5 ...biggest gripe most people had is the vtrigger being a "i win" button... i never had an issue with it personally. My personal biggest gripe with sf6 is ...ex moves being tied into the 'new' meter...instead of how they have always been in every single sf game part of the super bars
People will really play the same game/games everyday and complain that they’re bored. Just take a brake, you’ll be surprised at how much it does for your enjoyment.
It is INSANE to me that people are now stumping for Street Fighter 5. I know it's a decent game in its current state, but still...completely nuts considering its history.
It really is ass compared to SF6. The gameplay feels so much worse. Yes there's more variety than SF6 due to the large cast and variety of V-abilities it acquired over 7 years, but that's the only way it's superior.
Personally, I hate the forced engagement/agression and risk/reward that favours agression. SF 5 and 6 both have universal mechanics so strong that it invalidates matchups and variations in ways to play a single character, the result is that chatacters end up in the same range and matches look the same, 3rd strike was similar as well. The thing that made 2 and 4 better was weaker universal mechanics that made player styles and matchups more important vs how well their character exploits univeral mechanics.
Yep, and this stretches throughout all of the gaming community. People are so washed and jaded that they just can't think about what new things they want, only that they want what they had when their life didn't suck.
they do, the entire comments section is just obsessed with focusing on the weird people that are addicted full of fomo, and have a bad mentality when it comes to losing etc.
This isn’t even a problem fighting games have exclusively, lots of other games genres get hated and shit on even when they’re making good decisions. This new meta of hating on a game for views is starting to get out of control
True, other than sports games fans. No matter the sport, They have been nothing but abused for a decade now, all of their complaints are rational and 2014 was legitimately that last time they got a product made in good faith.
Good job, the top level people are never happy enjoy SF6 it's an amazing fighting game. Edit: Imagine making fun of a player because he's gold the online fgc needs to go outside.
The current trend is to hate the new popular thing. When it comes to any kind of art I find this trend baffling because by the way people talk it’s like everything from the past was perfect & the present is terrible. So basically it’s like saying claymation special effects & 8 bit graphics are superior than anything new which is obviously an absurd take.
16:45 I actually see this same thing in a LOT of games. So many content creators have essentially made a very specific game part of their brand, and no matter how sick of it they are, no matter how angry they get at it, they keep getting on because they're afraid that if they branch out to a new game they'll lose their audience... and it's a legitimate fear! Sites like youtube and twitch are incredibly unforgiving to people who change their content without an established history of doing variety content.
The idea that you'll never recapture the experience of your first fighting game is something I've been feeling heavily. I want a new Bloody Roar so bad lol.
At this point: Pros thinking old game better than new = Being mad you can’t get with the new. And yes they’re mad cuz the wording they use is “game bad” instead of “prefer old game” cuz god forbid they believe its their fault they can’t get with the times.
Thank you!!! As a 1990s kid, Hyper Fighting & Super Turbo >> every other SF game, after SF Alpha! STILL, I enjoy ALL Street Fighter games. Those who stick to their favorite Street Fighter game are just THOSE players who stick to their “well known”.
Right? Who gives a crap about brain-dead mechanics being in a game to carry players all day and render the Training Mode mostly useless? If you ask me, I love hopping online with no time spent in training and destroying legacy players. It makes a fighting game really fun for a month.
@@diddlebop7481 Oh, I wish that were the case. People don't hit the lab for several minutes then get sent to RUclips for lessons to fix mistakes, keep changing their play style accordingly, but still remain within a rank range, especially within a year.

This topic of conversation reminds of the reviews you find on Steam where a person has 500 hours logged in the game and then they leave a negative review. Ironic that someone would spend 20 calendar days on a terrible product.
I was about to say Every franchise has that sparking zero definitely went through that an it's been 4 years after GG strive came out an the discourse about Xrd being better is still alive.
the overvaluing of nostalgia wouldn't be so bad if people were aware that that's what they were doing. So many communities have been torn apart because one half of the community values nostalgia too much for their own good.
Has nothing to do with nostalgia. The issue is, that people have access to the games 24/7, they get solved faster - therefore they become boring faster. Which results in people just wanting something different, and because there isn't something new, the old one is "better".
likewise, people that cant recognize recency bias and believe that the new shiny thing is better in every way just because its new and anything older is just janky garbage are equally annoying.

@@doctordice2doctordice210 That's because people gave 3S a solid chance. It's why a lot of older fighters have crazy good players since the meta really never developed like that. Since something new always dropped so people took whatever legacy they had and took it over there. It's why U4 was so wild before 5 and why people are now looking at 5 as "good" when they know that mess ain't true. Since people said they hated 5 more than they hated 4. They mainly hated 5 because the 4 scene was killed for 5
Sigh... This is one of the reasons why I hate Toxic Nostalgia. Series is doing well, but they say it's dead because there's no new game, and they say it's dead because they don't like the new game. What on earth do you want? Are you trying to give game developers PTSD? Could you please accept something new? I’ll just say this, if your one of those people who loved a new game of a long running series and then say months later “man this game became bad because I’m not always having fun! That’s why I prefer the old ones!” Is like dude, anyone would not be having fun with the same game if they play it EVERY FN DAY. It’s call burnout for a reason
Mai will be out in a few weeks, people will love her, stop hating on the game for a minute, and then go back to hating when the content dries up again. It's genuinely hilarious that the biggest complaint people have with this game is that there isn't enough DLC to spend their time/money on. Modern attention span in full effect.
And people complained about the dlc spam and their prices in 5, and even 4, and call Capcom and Bamco greedy corporates, but the same people are now begging for costumes as if this will make them enjoy the game again. They simply don't want to admit that they're burned out or simply don't like the mechanics. Thing is, fighting game players are literally crack heads and can't stop due to "time/money investment", but they also don't know what else to do/play since touching grass interferes with playing 6h a day to become the next Red Bull sponsored pro. Exactly what the companies want: Live service addiction. And they don't even have to make the games free 2 play like Mmorpg or Fortshite lol
@@Nachtmahr616everything you mentioned isn’t an issue for people who play old games where dlc was never a thing. And a lot of those players are still playing old games like 3rd strike and mvc2 20yrs+ later. This is strictly a modern fighting game issue. Proof being barely anyone is booting up to play older “modern” fighting games like Tekken 6/7 or Sfv compared to the old heads. It’s because those games don’t have the spark that older games had on top of the current times aka the Fortnite generation where people need to be fed content every .5 sec or they will get bored 😂
The fact people need to be told how to enjoy games when it should be natural thinking but we are in times where people don't seem to like to think, it's wild lol
@@waluigitime1780 great is a pretty wild take. Still no one picked up the game during those times and people just waited for 6 instead. That game literally survived on the back of its character costumes. No one wanted to play a watered down street fighter where the core design was taking away moves from the characters and then adding them back as v triggers and make the players choose between them.
We need people like RobTV to hold a debate on sf6 that are backed by examples and evidence instead of blanket statements. Not doubting Max’s intentions to bring up honest discourse, but some of his comments on sf4 seem more like blanket statements that forgo context like sf4 being “un-engaging” according to Daigo. When did he make this comment? And for what version of the game? AE? Ultra? Super? And the comment about everyone hating ultra is simply untrue. Everyone hated Elena - many competitive players mentioned the game would have been fine if Elena wasn’t in the game or at least not her ultra 2/healing. Again, I think a healthy discourse about the likes and dislikes of sf6 between players of the community would be much more beneficial to the growth of the game as a whole versus strawmans being funneled into content
"The old games still work" is the biggest part that makes me so annoyed with these people and this discourse. Like fine, the new game sucks, you're allowed to have that opinion. But if the old game is so much better, why aren't you playing it!! Most of these games would be lucky to have any community whatsoever to keep the scenes alive. At the very least, put your time where your mouth is, lol.
It's the pro-scene CPT isn't hosting the old games. Most locals and majors aren't hosting older games. You gotta look for that niche or hope the netplay is good. Which is why some experts are highly localized since that's all they play. The US is the worse for that now because the scenes got smashed post SF4
Most old games have awful online. It's mostly only very old games with fightcade and newer games where the online is finally actually good. Why do you think anyone is excited for VF5REVO? The PS3 game still works, just go play that, right? The PS5 version still works! Nevermind the fact that both have awful online and you need to mess with an emulator for the first and pay for a subscription for the second. There's a lot more to a fighting game than whether it "works" or not.
Because people want new experience and at the same time, they want as good of an experience as they had in old games, which is where the fuming comes from and why people who don’t enjoy the new one as much are playing the new game. It doesn’t mean that they don’t play old games, they still do, which is why 3rd strike is still alive. As for content creators, it’s their job to make new content on the game that their channel is dedicated to, doesn’t matter whether they like it or not and switching to variety will harm their engagement and thus their income, which might build up another level of fuming.
For real, Melee fans made do with busted old CRTs and degrading GameCube controllers for a whole-ass decade before Smash Bros. moved outside of the Brawl era. To this day, Melee is this intensely niche gameplay experience that's busted in the exact way that Melee fans like their Smash experience to be busted, and they still play it because they like it like that. Ultimate offered less extreme Smash fans a viable alternative, but motherfuckers are still playing Melee to this day. That's one game on one platform that's never going to be ported to modern hardware. Meanwhile, you can play almost everything going back to the original Xbox on Microsoft platforms, and everything sans PS3 titles on Sony platforms. Backwards compatibility means you can have your cake and eat it too when it comes to games like the HD Mortal Kombat games, Street Fighter, a few Tekken games etc. Melee fans make do, while more expansive fighting game fans have the cream of the crop at their fingertips. So yeah, I agree. The whiners should shut the fuck up, put their money where their mouth is and play the older games they like so much. That doesn't exclude them from the most recent instalment, they're welcome to play any time - it's just that if the older games are so much better and they feel the need to denigrate the new stuff to pay basic pandering lipservice to the old stuff, they should go back and enjoy the old stuff to their heart's content. Because it's there for them to enjoy whenever they want.
Last night I hosted a Street Fighter night where we played: SF1 on the Series X with 8bitDo 6 button pads SF2, 3, 4 on the 360 with TE2 arcade sticks (on a CRT TV) SF5 on the PS5 regular controllers SF6 on the Series X with the 8bitDo 6 button pads A mix of old heads in our mid to late 40s with our kids. We played for hours across these different games and voted for 1 game to hold a tournament. It came to a tie between SF3 and SF6. Then in a vote between those two 80% voted SF6. So we had a ton with 6 and even when playing all of the games during the same evening, SF6 still looked appealing and fun.
One thing that was really noticeable to me was how big of a difference it made when Brian F did a "goal" oriented series. End of SF5 open-ended just ranked = not hype. Road to Warlord, with a clear goal in mind and a real way to get there? Now that's hype. If there isn't a storyline beyond just "i'm streaming the game ranked forever", people will tune in and out in flux and that's just normal.
The difference between older times is indeed the internet. Many people start copy pasting others sentiments and a echo chamber is created. People are very easily manipulated by social media. That’s why all of a sudden people will try to revive older games. And a trend begins. Anyone saying that SFV is better than SF6 is completely wild to me. Subjectively or not. Every game has its good things, of course, but come on…
Content creators are terrible for gaming. From irresponsible titling, to personal sentiments that either start, blow things out of proportion, exacerbate or perpetuate negativity about any game. " I personally hate this character or thing" about this game gets absorbed by their dumb audience and it rolls on from there. And yes 99% of these audiences are incredibly giant daftoids who cannot for a moment think for themselves, why? It's unclear. "Don't want to get timed out or banned". To the point a content creator can tell them, hey go comment bomb this or that and the damned zombies will march to go do it. WTF Content creators are ruining gaming. It's that simple.
It's especially noticeable or predominant when certain creators feel they're not getting views so start "this game is dead" cart and then it's "is < this game > dying??".... "Why I might quit "... and the brainless get influenced and indoctrinated by this shxt. boggles my mind how they can let a rando on the internet move their compasses just like that.

I think some people go back to SF5 because it has characters not available in SF6 while still wishing those characters to be in 6 because it is the better game. And its not helped by the slow content flow and guest characters taking half a year's worth of content if you wanted your favorite to come out. And as someone who started SF5 in later seasons in prep for SF6, i dont think any of the characters i mained (Birdie, Abigail, Oro) exactly have good odds to be added in 6 right now... Like i won't argue SF6 is the much better game, and i'd rather be playing these characters in it but its just not happening rn.
Yeah, i think Roster wise SFV is the definitve edition for street fighters. Not only in terms of characters but also Costumes. The fact that costumes getting over monetized to the point that it's not worth it anymore, most costumes only focus on CAC literally kills the deal for me. Don't care what people say, but SFV is still my go to for street fighter game. Maybe later in the future i will go for SF6 but not now, especially when fighting game (except guilty gear) isn't my main focus.

There's always always ALWAYS some group of people in the FGC that rub their hands together whenever someone complains about something in these games because they cannot WAIT to be vocal about how much something sucks. It never fails, they always want to suck the joy out of everything whenever things are going "too" well.
Whenever people show clips of “how much better SF5 was” it’s always specific character clips like Menat. As if SF6 doesn’t have cool characters like that already. AKI and Kimberly for instance
Both AKI and Kimberly have some of the most interesting tech in the game and they don’t get enough credit for the potential of mechanical depth they have. Kimberly’s midscreen bomb setups into her teleport crossups are insane and should be getting way more attention than just limiting her gameplay identity to “fullscreen slide”. Same with AKI’s venomous fang resets and snake step crossups.
@@shreksolosgoku if you mention any character sauce to SF players they’ll try and tell you that it’s “unoptimal” or “situational”. I play Cammy and some other players of her will tell you that her hooligan Oki setups are “not worth doing” even though they are true loopable mixups that absolutely can have a place in your toolbox. But because they don’t see Punk using them they think they shouldn’t either. Welcome to SF6, where the game doesn’t have depth but if you explain how it does have said depth is “unoptimal”. The game is not homegenous but the players sure are
I mean, they are comparing a complete game to a unfinished game. Please shut up. Not you Max, I'm talking to the ppl who have a problem with sf6. Sf6 came with alot of promises and excuted on launch compared to sfv. I loved sfv thru and thru start to finish. But they dropped the ball at launch. It Took til season 3 for players to start actually enjoying it. Sf6 is great and better than SFV, I love the mechanics and the new wave of characters and where we are going with 6, we shouldn't demonize an unfinished game just because they feel like they adapt and learn the game.
It’s crazy how people claim that Tekken 8 is a really bad game, have over 1000 hours playing that game, and keep playing it, for some reason. Just stop playing and play something else.
When did people hate sf4? This is news to me. I thought it was the most widely liked sf game in the modern era. If it did get hate then it was nowhere near the level of hate people had for sf5 (which was completely warranted in the beginning)
Coming from melee into street fighter and tekken holy crap man, the amount of "drama" the vocal minority stirs up is baffling. It really feels like we have some really bad complainers that are just terrible and then people commenting on the topic because theyre salty after a ranked session. I dont understand how people complain so damn much, it really makes it hard to want to get friends into any fighting game because they only see this shitty discourse. Im having fun and I can ignore social media but it is really discouraging to not get my friend into it because these twitter fools are babies with iphones
The majority of complainers are legit just salty crybabies who need to feel validated that they don't just suck at the game because they thought they were really good in SF5.
1:37 me with Alpha 3. That’s where I learned to play fighting games beyond the basic fundamentals and I recognize that I’ll never have that feeling again, not in such a substantial way
It is possible to recapture some of it but only some and thats when switching to a radically different subgenre of fighting games, switching from street fighter to tekken felt like relearning a large amount of fundamentals again but those are unique to tekken and I wont ever experience again in another 3d fighter, or you could get something similar with learning a vs fighter like skullgirls but only once
I just dislike the pricing of their fighter coins. Although that's more of an issue with Capcom than the actual game. I'm still loving it, though. The loud idiots can speak to walls.
@@FlossyCarter It’s amazing because in killer instinct every part of the fight feels fun to play. Getting comboed in any fighting game that isn’t a platform fighter or KI? Just watch the cutscene. Swear this literally happens with every game ever released in a series literally even in single player games. Like when p5 came out everyone started glazing p4 but when p4 came out everyone started glazing p3 its actually funny seeing this cycle
ikr or when p5 came out and people were like "hell yeah it's awesome, one of the best in the series" and now everyone in the community pretends that it's a terrible game just because they're nostalgic for the old games, same thing also happens with the Zelda games as well
Back then Persona 5 was treated like the best thing that was ever bestowed to humanity, now people say that it sucks and P4 is generally well seem in the fandom.
The least played SF in my library. Capcom will not fix the Series S texture bug. Capcom please fix it! Also not into these character passes. Will just wait for a champion edition upgrade at a better price than the season passes.
Online people forgot that they can play a game they like and not parroting "pro" player opinion for the sake of hating. Actual criticism is obviously welcome but "Why does Ryu got to get free stinky charge when he play the game" is not it
Street fighter has always been an incredibly restrictive fighting games with limited combos and limited possibility to invent your own combos. Street fighter is in the same second tier fighting game category as Mortal Kombat.
Street fighter thankfully does a great job preserving their games making them accessible. Tekken has so many great games gathering dust with no avenue to play online unless you're on PC and on discord. I gave up on fighting games online due to stress but the smaller amount of characters for seasons and lack of outfits for SF6 isn't helping.
Yeah, the MK community is in a rough spot. Their complaints about old games being better are actually valid and it shows in the player numbers as well. MK11 usually has more players than MK1
You’ll learn that on the internet most people hate most things… Can’t think of too many games that I’ve played where I haven’t seen the community seemingly despise their own game of choice. In short: people suck.
I love that you talked about people being exaggerated about their takes to generate audience instead of playing old games. I understand the annoyance one might have about a Fighting Game being so different and sometimes worse than its previous entry, but man, some people can't express that in a educated way or in depth without screaming or insulting or jus "This is bad because so".
people don't realize that fighting games can get pretty stale quickly and thus burntout happens no new content comes around and will be reliant on stuff like adding new characters to do something. that's the cycle of fighting games since its inception
Because with fighting games you're supposed to play more than one because that's how the arcade worked, if the SF, was full you moved over to KOF, then you had Marvel, Samsho, etc. If all them were full you dropped like $5 on Time Crisis 2 or Sniper Scope had a great time
9:10 it’s wild because I was talking to my friend yesterday about how rage baiting is the new hot meta in social media. It’s ridiculous the amount of x posts and even RUclips videos I see that are using thumbnails and hot takes just to rage bait engagement
Right now SF6's most glaring issue is the extremely lackluster roster and the glacial pace of DLC releases. Four characters over the course of a year is way too little and considering how many staples are missing such as Vega, Balrog, Sagat, Cody, etc. you're realistically looking at 2026-2027 minimum for a roster that at this speed may finally be interesting. And by the time character loyalists finally get their favorite in, they'll be set loose into an online that has barely any casuals left and a shrunken playerbase in general due to age and new FGs undoubtedly releasing in that time. SF6 had the opposite problem of SFV which is having a great launch with tons of momentum behind it which they're currently screwing up. If next season remains the four character cycle then I don't see anyone but the most diehard SF fans waiting until year six of this game to finally play Makoto or Poison.
I'm sorry to say but that's probably not going to change. This is something the FGC just needs to understand, same with the costumes too. This is happening for a lot of games right now, live service or otherwise, not just SF6. Only difference is some of those games cut down and release less quality to componsate, I'm actually glad SF6 is determined to not do that.
I agree with most everything you said, except for the current cast being lackluster. I personally have no interest in any of the characters outside of Kim & Chun, but there is a pretty good amount of them to choose from. A lot of em have unique playstyles (except the shotos ofc), and a lot of the new characters are pretty dope. Also making Ed somewhat cool was a big surprise. Overall tho yeah, we need more characters, I want my girl Makoto lol.
@@aledantih6524 You ignore fighting games are overall the slowest yet they unironically have the most to pull from. They have hitboxs, models they just need to modernize... They know they're getting the block spun on them with COSTUMES ALONE. Where modders can do what they do in months if not years within days. Either Fighting games need to drop with WAY more or they need to stay their asses out the Live Service game because people expect stuff more than seasonal they want stuff MONTHLY and they're willing to pay.
I don't believe the premise that you can never re-capture the magic of your first fighting game. My first versus fighter was SF2, decades later through emulation I discovered Garou Mark of the Wolves and it sucked me in big time, quickly becoming my new all time favorite fighter. So 100% the magic can happen again.
Yeah, I thought that was a pretty reductive argument, as if he was chalking up a lot of the complaints to just that. Sort of a mild strawman, maybe? I was big into Street Fighter 2, and then Tekken 2, and then absolutely fell in love with Tekken 3.
I'm older. MK2 in the arcade was the first for me. You were 100% correct that nothing captures that type of excitement. That said,i just got back into fighting games with SF6. Its really fun IMO.
Yeah it’s hard to capture the excitement of SF2 or original MK trilogy esp 2. That new feeling and excitement can never be recaptured also the hype or nostalgia too of a fun time in our youth.
Here in Brazil SFV is still remembered as a shit game by the majority of the casual gaming audience, that's how bad it was back then, compared to it SF6 is a masterpiece
Has someone who just played sf6 today after at least a couple of weeks. I can confirm I'm having more fun playing it than sf5. Not just because of better netcode but I'm always learning something new almost every time and it makes me want to keep playing and get better.

Don't put VF in this. I hope you negative people stay away from that game.

SF V was hot garbage at launch and I'm tired of people gaslighting themselves into saying the game was flawless. The amount of time it took for the game to redeem itself was huge
MKX was the same way, but people overhype it from how it got near the end of its lifecycle.

Sequels should always be better, if not the same.

As a certain developer said, "Don't ask me for shit!"
They literally brought back the one thing everyone hated about sf 5, throw loops, that they had FIXED in 5 . Saying 6 is "so perfect" is a mistake.

Exactly.
the REAL problem : people don't know what they want anymore
Yep, and this stretches throughout all of the gaming community. People are so washed and jaded that they just can't think about what new things they want, only that they want what they had when their life didn't suck.

@@diddlebop7481 Oh, I wish that were the case. People don't hit the lab for several minutes then get sent to RUclips for lessons to fix mistakes, keep changing their play style accordingly, but still remain within a rank range, especially within a year.
Except the people winning are calling the game bad, scrubby, unstable, random, etc.
That's from Mena to Punk to iDom to Tokido (I lose 0-5, change nothing win 5-0, this game is interesting).
I agree that old game good, new game bad is a thing, but it's not just people no longer sitting at the top of the pack. Everyone has the same complaints about the game.
I wonder if people will be happier if character costumes finally start dropping 🧐
THIS! It's insane to me that the game's been out as long as it has and we still only have one set of new costumes, for just half the roster.
Some of them. But most complainers will continue complaining. Its literally the same with SF as it is with Tekken. SF6 and Tekken 8 will only be mentioned as the best things ever when SF7 and Tekken 9, aka the new “trash” ones come out
When they finally get a new Juri costume, they will shout from the hills “wE’Re sO bAcK!”. I’m super excited for next year with Mai and the baby boo Elena dropping. And you KNOW they’re gonna do swimsuits again. These chumps just need to be patient
No because those customes are so expensive that you barely see them.
They need more actual content because there's nothing outside of mods on pc.
This topic of conversation reminds of the reviews you find on Steam where a person has 500 hours logged in the game and then they leave a negative review. Ironic that someone would spend 20 calendar days on a terrible product.
The Street Fighter cycle continues, new one sucks and old is better. Been around since SF2 Turbo
Not just Street Fighter, every franchise has that
Even 3rd Strike and MvC2 were hated on release and it was like a few years later that they finally saw that “wait, this shit is actually fire”
Old thing good, new thing bad is such a terrible mentality, and it sucks that it's prevalent in every gaming community
I was about to say Every franchise has that sparking zero definitely went through that an it's been 4 years after GG strive came out an the discourse about Xrd being better is still alive.
This is just every community.
Nostalgia boners are so frustrating. My personal favourite is SFA2, but I've never bemoaned subsequent games. I'm just glad SF6 is really succeeding.
the overvaluing of nostalgia wouldn't be so bad if people were aware that that's what they were doing.

I watched Roflwaffle's 'Nostalgia Bias in the Racing Game Community' and I agree with him. I was really disappointed that Fastminer07 didn't agree with Roflwaffle's critique. So I unsubscribed.
Haters are going to hate. SF6 is a great game from the start and even now. I honestly don't give a flying fuk what most people have to say nowadays.
I don’t think 5 was as bad as its reputation, even at its worst, but 6 is absolutely better.
that's exactly my opinion. V was my first tryhard FG and i still have the game installed on my PC. XD.
It was bad. Very bad.
But it also got 5 seasons of patches that include new mechanics and rebalancing.
SFV has its reputation for a reason. It was hot garbage in the eyes of the vast majority for half of its cycle and was okay at the end.
@@arpadszabo661SFV was great at the end.
But it's beginnings were trash.
"God, MK11 was so much better than 1..." *has more hours on 1 than 11*
Because people want new experience and at the same time, they want as good of an experience as they had in old games, which is where the fuming comes from and why people who don’t enjoy the new one as much are playing the new game.
Last night I hosted a Street Fighter night where we played:
SF1 on the Series X with 8bitDo 6 button pads
SF2, 3, 4 on the 360 with TE2 arcade sticks (on a CRT TV)
SF5 on the PS5 regular controllers
SF6 on the Series X with the 8bitDo 6 button pads
A mix of old heads in our mid to late 40s with our kids.
We played for hours across these different games and voted for 1 game to hold a tournament. It came to a tie between SF3 and SF6. Then in a vote between those two 80% voted SF6.
So we had a ton with 6 and even when playing all of the games during the same evening, SF6 still looked appealing and fun.
I want to be your friend
@yanivavizratz984 I'm blessed to live in the same town for decades and so grew a good circle of friends. I wish the same for everybody.
Every game has its good things, of course, but come on…
And then 7 will come then all of a sudden 6 is better then 7 then 7 is better then 8 and so on and so on
Content creators are terrible for gaming.
WTF
Content creators are ruining gaming.
Ok fine. Not all. But mostly. I hate their titling the most.
To be fair, the issue is twofolded. It really something that always happen, but local issues become global issue really easy now.

Both AKI and Kimberly have some of the most interesting tech in the game and they don’t get enough credit for the potential of mechanical depth they have.

people don't realize that fighting games can get pretty stale quickly and thus burntout happens no new content comes around and will be reliant on stuff like adding new characters to do something. that's the cycle of fighting games since its inception
This. We weren't meant to play one fighting game for 6 years like we do now. New fighting games used to come out literally every month.
I'm interested to hear this, but....I'm not apart of this 'everyone' group. I think that Street Fighter's 3 through 6 are just timeless.
💯 agree
I don't believe the premise that you can never re-capture the magic of your first fighting game. My first versus fighter was SF2, decades later through emulation I discovered Garou Mark of the Wolves and it sucked me in big time, quickly becoming my new all time favorite fighter. So 100% the magic can happen again.
Yeah, I thought that was a pretty reductive argument, as if he was chalking up a lot of the complaints to just that. Sort of a mild strawman, maybe? I was big into Street Fighter 2, and then Tekken 2, and then absolutely fell in love with Tekken 3.
One man's "It's Joever" is another man's "We're so back!!!"
This is why I Am so happy I just play whatever fighting game I am into. I ignore social media and just stick to my gut on what is fun to me.
6 is garbage.

Pretty worldwode
That’s why….
Capcom vs SNK 2 is the best fighting game ever and I will be number one again.
Everybody hates street fighter 6
For me it was a Tuesday
Has someone who just played sf6 today after at least a couple of weeks. I can confirm I'm having more fun playing it than sf5.
Not just because of better netcode but I'm always learning something new almost every time and it makes me want to keep playing and get better.
I am not understanding the sf6 hate. I haven’t been on the game in about a week or 2 bc of marvel rivals but it was fun when I was on it daily lol
