*EDIT* There's always an editing error somewhere, no the shin shoryuken is not from guilty gear lol We are closing out the year, so lets do it with a fun Top 10 list why not?! Lots of amazing fighting game supers over the years and in this video we are going to be going over some of the absolute greatest. Naturally a great super is more than just whats actually effective, otherwise Rashid's lvl 2 would be on here (and hell no its not gonna be), being fun/cool/memorable is a big part of it, so lets dig into the top 10!
The Buster Wolf has always been my go-to example for how fighting games supers don't necessarily need to be elaborate, animated in an extended fashion, or emphasize being cinematic to look really damn cool.
I am a 36 year old man, but everytime I get to play any GG game and this move connects I always yell it out along with Potemkin!!! There is zero shame!!! HEAVENLYYYYYYY~
This is why I love Rooflemonger. I had no idea install supers got their name from one particular super. I always assumed it was short for installation, like installing an upgrade. Thanks for the history lesson.
Idk what I would take off to put it, but Big Band's trumpet super will always go down as one of the greats for me, it has style, personality, cool factor, and damage. Literally everything I could ask for in a super. I'd also like to nominate for a potential "10 more great supers" is Golden Frieza and Hit's level 3 from DBFZ, Phoenix Wright's level 3 in turnabout mode from UMvC3, and Faust's wheelchair super in GGST
Agreed, that said I have a soft spot for Hibiki’s no fear feint / blackout in CvS2 which basically does the same thing. It’s less brutal for sure, but sooooo stylish
@@rooflemonger its first appearance was in KOF 97 as a super move. In KOF 2001 it changes to become special move and then changed again as super move but not as powerful as KOF 97, 98, 99 and 2000.
Great list. Raging Demon is absolutely the king. I have a personal affection for all the supers in KOF’99, as it was the first fighting game I actually owned (on PS1!). K’s rush super where he threw his sunglasses to begin the attack was, at the time, the coolest thing on planet earth to me. Also, Ralf’s ‘just one really big punch.’
7:38 Special shoutout to the MvCi version of the Shin Shoryuken. Ryu will visibly fight off the Satsui no Hadou while performing the move at low health
Ranbu is iconic even beyond Kyokugen. Really, every rush forward hit-into-autocombo is a descendent of it, from other SNK supers like Kim's rush to things like Wolverine's Weapon X.
You can even say that it extends into role-playing games with the Mystic Arte "Final Fury (Satsugeki Bukouken)," featured in many games throughout Bandai Namco's _Tales of_ series.
I've always been a more casual fighting game fan, and having cool or inventive supers is honestly such a huge indicator for whether or not I'll like a game. A level 3 Super or Astral Finish or whatever just FEELS so much better to pull off in a match when it looks cool as hell and has cheesy lines you quietly say to yourself as the animation plays.
imagine being fuuma kotaro, one of history's most famous ninja, and time traveling to the 1990s and the first thing that happens to you is you get cucked to death. that's rough e: also since i'm sure people care, i think these are some that could be honorable mentions: - Power Geyser/Triple Geyser: i know Buster Wolf is way more iconic but i have to give it to Terry's first flame for having just SO much oomph. special mention goes to his smash bros. incarnation's Power Geyser for having just the most INSANE punch to it - Iori's Ya Otome: while ryuuko ranbu set the standard, i think ya otome really nails what a good ranbu super should strive to be. never overstays its welcome, comes with a memorable move callout, can even be extended with crazy ass slashes basically just for fun, i think it rules - Omen's command grab super from KI2013: for those out of the loop, it turns your opponent's ENTIRE health bar into grey life/provisional health and basically any stray hit you can combo into and out of will end the round. it's SO funny - That One Super Where Jack Beats You With A Baseball Bat in SFEX/FEXL: i believe this is self-evident
You absolutely made my day by including a Guilty Gear super (from Sol, no less) AND Buster Wolf. Top quality list video, definitely made me want to go check out the rest of your content! Thanks for taking the time to put this together and share it with us!
CVS2 had the most appealing (non-cutscene) VFX on supers IMO. Those red ghosting trails on super combos were beautiful. Ending a round with Raging Demon while Akuma stands against those beautifully rendered backgrounds in silence for 5 seconds was magical
Even though it only appeared once, NESTS Kyo's NEO MAX in KOFXIII is peak everything. From the build up to the impact frame and then the absolutely awesome voice work from Kyo's VA, it quickly became a favorite of mine.
1. Favorite super move: GG Xrd Rev 2 Dizzy's nuclear explosion and...SURRENDERED! Instakill. 2. The one that made me point at the screen with a big smile: Cammy's 2nd level special in SF6. The one that recreates her scene of the 1994 anime movie! 3. Super that I wish were performed on me: KOFXV Ángel's climax.
What an amazing list. All moves that I had in mind were there. The best version of the Shin Shoryuken is in the MvC Infinite, where Ryu suppresses the Satsui no Hado in the middle of the attack.
This list is pretty spot on, in my experience one of the most iconic super moves is the Shinku Tatsumaki, idk the idea spin kicking so fast in the air with the added effects in some games made look awesome to me even though I mostly connected by luck
I will always have a soft spot for Cap and Bucky's Unyielding Justice, as well as Cassandra's super in SC6. I just really love cool shield bouncing attacks.
One really neat detail about Raging Demon that I kinda wish appeared more: in a couple different games, most notably SF4 because it’s for all 3 characters with a Demon, if you win with the demon, there is no KO from the announcer, just the iconic sound and the Kanji. It’s a really neat detail for a move that is designed exclusively for killing.
3:08 Kisarah beats her opponents with the power of NTR! 💔 😆🤣 I am glad she appeared in Neo Geo Battle Coliseum and kept that iconic Super Hope we see Kisarah Westfield in a new game I really like her NGBC redesign but I will bring back her wrestling/judo techniques from Aggressors of Dark Kombat. Love her throws in that game xD
I remember seeing Ken's Shinryuken (XvSF version) for the first time at my local arcade. Shinsho may be in more games but, Ken has the greatest dragon punch super of all time.
I love how you included that Hakan super at the end since it's one of the reasons I played that character lmao. But I adore Chie's galactic punt from P4A/P4AU, since it's a move that they took directly from P4/P4G and it's a follow up attack in those. It's like the Gonzales throw but with just a kick, in P4 it's just comical to see the enemies going to space while dealing the maximum output of physical damage while in the Arena games, it's lovely how dramatic it is with the slow down for the kick and then launching your opponent into the stratosphere. It's an instant kill yeah but it's amazing how well the team translated a silly move from a RPG into a Fighting game move.
🔥🙏🔥 Nice list my friend.... No Complaints... Encore for honorable mentions are needed tho. Supers from 3d fighting games next! BTW Fatal Fury The Motion Picture's portrayal of Geese's Raging Storm made me a Geese fan for life... Good times
I'm glad I found this video just now Honorable Mentions that I just wanna throw: Sonic Hurricane - Guile Heavenly Potemkin Buster - Potemkin Satchmo Solo - Big Band There are definitely some mkre great supers but I personally like those too. Thank you for making this video!
Yknow it’s very new, not much pedigree or prestige, but I’m a *huge* fan of Ed’s level 3 from SF6. Psycho Chamber is sick as hell, literally making you his personal punching bag while talking shit. Which includes a nod to his old DMC costume with “Jackpot!”. Plus the CA is super sick too!
Not gonna lie Ed's new lvl 3 did briefly cross my mind, it actually is super sick and well done. But not enough time gone by or legacy to it yet. If its around in a new form in SF7 however it just may be it
Crazy fun list. Personally it's really hard to pick one over the other for me from the list as well as the ones i like. Really enjoyd the list and video.
Good list, Roof. A personal favorite of mine will always be iori’s Maiden Masher, especially with the Ura 316 linked at the end. I also loved how it would be changed and get really violent when he turns Orochi. CVS did a pretty cool thing by combining the two, too. Yea… Maiden masher is dope
I was really expecting that one command grab super in grand blue where it is a wrestling match and depending if it kills or not the referee will call a knock out or not. Always hype. Awesome list and awesome video!
Awesome video idea and instantly you gained 10000% of my trust in the video when you started it off with doomsday. Ive always loved it. #1 was obligatory
Not gonna lie, this randomly popped up for me and glad I checked it out because this is probably the best super list I’ve ever seen! I agree with it 100%
Great list. The shin shoryuken has a lot of impact to it and one of my favorites. I'd like to add a couple to the list as well, in no particular order: 1. Iori Yagami - the Max version of the Shiki Ya Otome from the KOF 96 -98 when he goes into a blood rage. 2. Basara - The samurai showdown 3 version of his weapon flipping technique, mostly because of his evil laugh from that version 3. Hibiki -Last Blade 2 with her super slash so quick that is so quick and lethal, it takes a couple of seconds before the victim realizes what happened and then it's too late....sorta like a Kenshiro "you're already dead" moment. 4. Dandy J -Waku Waku 7 I just like the guy because most of his supers uses his super fists. 5. Senator - Eternal Champions: Challenge from the Dark Side. Rarely talked about game from with a character that was based on the lobbyist in Washington at the time that was trying to ban video games who's was more of a joke character, but he has an overkill, which were fatalities for that game, when he transformed into a postal worker with an assault rifle. They should bring this series back😅
I like how a lot of your picks are great in of themselves but also have a lot of influence. I think the Ryuuko Ranbu has so much influence. The concept extends to many SNK supers (Kim, Iori, K'...) influenced Capcom with the Custom Combos and then on, Killer Instinct got its basic combo concept from the creators watching Kim's supers...
I remember the first time I saw Kisarah's Super in a top 10 video Because of that, I decided to play Aggressors of Dark Kombat, and that is how I discovered ADK/Alpha Denshi games (World Heroes, Twinkle Star Sprites, Ninja Master's, Ninja Commando, etc) ADK went bankrupt, SNK bought their IPs Hope that we get a World Heroes Team (Hanzo, Ryoko, Jeanne) and an Aggressors Team (Kisarah, Fuuma, Joe) in KOF
Going to mention 4 specials. 3 BlazBlue and one special one 1.) Terumi's Black Sickle Strike. The special is funny and disrespectful with the stomps 2.) Hazama's Serpent Infernal Rupture. Not only does he launch you with a heck of a kick but, the move shows how much he's sorta holding back the entire fight. However once it's done you can hear his real voice and his true power. 3.) Azreal's Black Hawk Stinger. Literally if you know his story and power well.... You know that punch would 200% kill someone and the charging sells it. 4.) Heihachi's Lvl.3 In PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale. It's a reference to his T5 ending and what I love about it is how he chains certain characters. Each character has unique animations and I don't know how he chains someone like Big Daddy but still love it.
The best super, IMO, is Maxi from Soul Calibur's "flying dragon kick of the Zodiac!" because the voice actor had like .25 seconds to get the line out and it was hilarious
9:49 - YUES! YEESSS! You've got TASTE my mate! My favorite Raging Storm is the one from Real Bout Special and Real Bout 2. I LOVE that uneven spike thing that matches Geese's hatred and despite! I still hope to see Buster Wolf or Power Geyser at number 1.
Top 3 accurate. The injustice Supers were pretty cool. I feel like the grapple should be Final Atomic buster or Potempkin Buster myself, but It's a really great list. Great video.
Of the attic busters my favorite is ultimate final atomic buster in mvc 1 where he just suplexes you a couple times before throwing you up into the air and then delivering that final atomic buster which explodes
*EDIT* There's always an editing error somewhere, no the shin shoryuken is not from guilty gear lol

I remember the first time I saw Kisarah's Super in a top 10 video
Because of that, I decided to play Aggressors of Dark Kombat, and that is how I discovered ADK/Alpha Denshi games
(World Heroes, Twinkle Star Sprites, Ninja Master's, Ninja Commando, etc)
ADK went bankrupt, SNK bought their IPs
Hope that we get a World Heroes Team (Hanzo, Ryoko, Jeanne) and an Aggressors Team (Kisarah, Fuuma, Joe) in KOF
“YOU. HIGHER MAMMAL! CAN. YOU. READ?”
“No, but Phil can read though. PHIIIIIL”

9:47 THANK YOU! THIS IS...... JUST IT'S OWN LEVEL OF GOAT STATUS!
RAAAAGIIIIING STOOOOOORRM!
I definitely agree with the number 1…. Kinda surprised Shinku Hadoken didn’t make the cut but the big Shaouken is a great addition in its place.
To me no version of shinku hadouken can even match haoh shoukoken, and even that didn't make the list (although its part of some ranbu supers)
Going to mention 4 specials. 3 BlazBlue and one special one
1.) Terumi's Black Sickle Strike. The special is funny and disrespectful with the stomps
2.) Hazama's Serpent Infernal Rupture.
Lol Roofle smartly added Hakan's Ultra 1 as an Honorable Mention 😂
The best super, IMO, is Maxi from Soul Calibur's "flying dragon kick of the Zodiac!" because the voice actor had like .25 seconds to get the line out and it was hilarious
9:49 - YUES! YEESSS! You've got TASTE my mate! My favorite Raging Storm is the one from Real Bout Special and Real Bout 2. I LOVE that uneven spike thing that matches Geese's hatred and despite!
I still hope to see Buster Wolf or Power Geyser at number 1.
Glad number one is exactly as it should be. Good choices overall
That grab from gonzales...hold up.
I think some really cool Darkstalkers super moves could make the cut, like midnight bliss and Darkness Illusion . Great top 10 though !
the rough cut had some darkstalkers on here, but for a top 10 you do gotta eventually narrow things down to 10
Lorewise, Geese was so impressed by the Ryuuko Ranbu that he created the Deadly Rave as his own version of the move.
@@KaitouKaiju Ye, the Final Atomic Buster, and Heavenly Potempkin Buster, tho the HPB is an air command grab.
I'm a fellow grapple-enthusiast, and nothing beats Vices Super where she just powerslams you over and over again
Number one was SPOT ON! Hahahaha. Great list. So many good choices. "ARE YOU OK"??
