Not every new fighting game character gets to be a banger. Back in the day you threw anything at the wall and saw what stuck in terms of character design, but in the more modern age characters that are just total duds are much rarer, because "we know what works". However, it doesn't always work, so lets take a look at some modern era FGC characters that were failures to launch.
Necalli hurts for me because I love his design. I love his moveset. I love this whole feral fighting style - that one grab where he grabs you by the face and just chucks you is so cool to me. But then they did literally nothing with him.
Kinda like Kotal Kahn in MK. Pretty cool character on paper, but the story just dumpsters him two games in a row. Though at least he got a second game.
I still remember how when the roster got new V-Triggers, Necalli's was literally just his VT1, but with only one unique move separating the two VT's. Like, imagine being that much of an afterthought? 😂
I can't help but feel like Miguel might face a Johnny situation from Ed Edd & Eddy where he would have been hailed a hero if he dealt with his object of scorn sooner, but said object built up his hero cred too much where important characters are going to hate the shit out of him if he acts on his revenge despite how justified he still might be.
@@jonnyanderson3042 only a little, all they really having is both being French judoka. Otherwise they have no lore connection and don’t have any overlapping moves I can think of
when people say that "lore" doesn't matter in fighting games I always remember Necalli. The guy could have been SF's Broly but he ended up in such a pathetic way...
Imagine A Shafow Falls ends with Ryu with the power of Nothingness fighting against M. Bison possessing the body of Necali. That ending idea is too good to pass up.
The most interesting thing this video highlights is just how important design and "character" actually are. After the embarrassing fall of Concord there was much debate about how relevant it was that no one seemed to like its roster...it's pretty much vital. You can have mechanically interesting and functional characters, but if they fail to appeal to people, none of that really matters.
If you're not going to let Player make their own characters, the ones that are in the game need to be appealing. If nobody wants to play any of the characters, they probably won't play the game.
Honestly, Concord just needed one good alien design. It was never gonna sell me it's human characters, but they could have at LEAST had a cool lizard alien or something, and they couldn't even do that.
Necalli is such a funny "dud" because most opinions on his design seem to be pretty positive, its just that people wanted MORE of him lmao. It's hard to get behind a guy whos entire screentime is showing up, getting hyped up by the story, then losing and melting into a puddle. repeatedly. Like, the most the fabled devourer of warriors did was give Ryu a headache >:(
I remember in Soul Calibur 5 they went with a "next generation of fighters" approach with its roster. I especially remember that Kilik was replaced by this Sun Wukong-esque kid that literally yelled "FOOOOOD!!!" when defeated. Kilik returned in Soul calibur 6.
Yeah, the entire children generation of SC5 could've been in this video easily. There's a damn good reason 6 went for a pseudo-reboot, and they're basically the majority of it.
Luke is a weird example where he couldve flopped but some combination of Aleks Le shitposting, his 6 design and world tour led to people just kind of "getting" him as a doofus himbo
It helps that he isn't the main character of SF6. You are the main character of SF6. He's your mentor. So you get a different connection to him than you would if he was the protagonist.
Poor Shun'Ei. The issue isn't even that he's not cool, it's the fact everyone around him is such an absolute banger that "cool" just isn't enough to stand out.
Additionally; Isla, Shun'ei's (self-proclaimed) rival, is a far more compelling character than him - while also being a source of comedy due to her character flaws.
I remember his stance made him look kind of goofy in KOF XIV. His new stance in XV was much better. I'm not a fan of his, but I hope he and Luke make it into the next Capcom vs. SNK, just to represent the new school of fighting games.
He looks cool to me but his fashion just look out of place for KOF. Like if we take a look at some characters their clothing is pretty normal with some modified design to make them look more cool for fiction purposes. But for ShunEi's case I think they just went overboard where they crossed the concept line
Disagree, loved that game and loved the characters. Some people are just allergic to change. SCVI was soulless. Felt like a bad Soul calibur 4 and a half
@@Gabi24492 I liked Algol, Zwei and the idea of edge master kilik! I wish some of those ideas had stuck around. But Sophitia's kids really did not stick the landing
I feel like a really interesting follow up video to this could be what characters were actually really well received but still somehow never returned. My first thought was Tremor from MKX. Most people that loved mkx always tell you how cool of a character Tremor was and still he was not playable ever since.
Tremor in MKX was a legit triumph of design, everything about him hit. Although MK being MK, unless you are a core character its a real dice roll who makes it in game to game.
if this becomes a thing i hereby nominate May Lee from KOF--she appeared in all of one canon title 20 years ago and two dream matches and to this day i see people pleading SNK to add her back. and i totally get it, taekwondo girl with a stance swap to tokusatsu hero complete with GIANT chop? speaks for itself.
Kuradoberi Jam is one of the most popular and beloved characters from Guilty Gear and she somehow hasn't been back in a new title in over 20 years. edit: C. Viper from SF4 is without a doubt the best non-Juri addition to the cast and a banger character but hasn't been back aside from being in Marvel 3.
The interesting part in Tekken 7 is that Shaheen was also a character that everyone says nobody cares about, but they at least remember him as that nobody cares about. Katarina was just forgotten
Nobody likes Shaheen beyond his gameplay, but he is Tekken's first Middle East representative (as far as I can remember) and that's why they brought him back, as just taking him out would rub some people the wrong way.
@@BknMoonStudios It was also likely the reason Leo Kliesen (who is a Germany representative) was brought back, in spite of them not having much story relevancy outside of being one of Kazuya's many enemies.
@@ryanm.8720 Leo is arguably the best character for a complete newbie to start with. I'm 99% sure he was designed to be that; it fixed one of Tekken' weakest links. The 'Ryu and Ken' of the series are some of the hardest characters to play, and characters like Paul aren't amazing for beginners. Leo has it all and is easy to play.
Hmm I never heard anyone place blame on Diego for anything really. It was other things that made the game flop. Characters seemed to be generally fine.
@CrownHetman there were bigger problems and bigger reasons it failed, I phrased it the way I did for a reason. It would be unfair to claim one bad character launch killed a franchise. However, he was one of many reasons the game was bad, so he wasn't doing the game any favors either, so he suffers from being part of the problem due to not being part of the solution. As roof stated, the other character felt like a DOA character, the combination of little girl scientist with electrical powers and Silat is very DOA. Diego is literally just a rip-off of Miguel
Where does this cringe whiny-emoji trend come from? It's all over the internet now, because you sheeple just copy everybody else around you. Absolutely disgusting! That's why you participate in every single dictatorship. The elite barely has to try. 🐑☠️
Shun'Ei also has the problem that his rival Isla is basically him but done well? Like, she just looks so cool, absolutely oozes style while also making it obvious that she's kinda a bratty kid over her head. I cannot tell you what kind of personality Shun'Ei has. Kyo is cocky. K' is cool and collected. Ash is scheming. Shun'Ei is kinda just... there.
Isla is absolutely fixed Shun'ei. If she showed up at the start of kof14 things woulda been a lot better. At bare minimum even though all the verse/otomaraga stuff is barely explained, she was peppy and fun whereas shunei as a sour and dour boy
shun's personality is "quiet and gentle" which like. doesn't REALLY work for a protagonist? it CAN but there has to be something else to hook you. especially up against characters like K' and Ash who are generational protagonists. i think his choice of company doesn't help--meiten's just asleep half the time, tung fu rue is old and also calm, and benimaru is really just there to get them to tourney finals and get another suitcase full of money. i don't HATE shun'ei but he really did kinda flop. gameplay-wise he's cool, but he's hard to care about.
Just wait for the next kof protagonist to flop harder than him so much so that fighting game fans do the "perhaps we treated you too harshly" to Shun Ei and I cannot wait for that to happen.
@@dee_dee4640 Time heals all wounds. Remember Ash was so hated they had to erase him out of the timeline. Then a few years a part and with a new kinder look now Ash is a beloved protagonist.
It's more of a problem that a good character like Isla is attached to a flop like Shun'ei, honestly. Like, say KoF16 comes around and they don't want to bring Shun'ei back because they know how little anyone likes him; what happens to Isla? She definitely has more of a fanbase and is more deserving to come back (and I hope she does, she was one of my favorites in KoF15), but when she was defined as his rival, what will they decide to do with her if he's not going to be around?
I personally believe Necalli deserves another chance into Street Fighter. Awsome design, but his gameplay was limited and he was a jobber, but the most important fact was that he got almost everyone's attention at the time.
I'm always reminded of Necalli when getting to four drinks with Jamie because of the untamed hair. Loved the character, too, and I'd be down for a return. But give us Makoto and Alex first.
@@GenderNeutch I'm an Alex main myself. He's most definitely needed back after this line up. I would like to see a Street Fighter EX character this time around. Maybe Garuda or Cracker Jack.
Necalli's gameplay is solid. He needs to be simple and brutal with a few flashy moves here and there. Before the nerfs he was popular among the FGC folks.
As a SFV Necalli main, I find it extremely funny that my character is getting more attention "posthumously" from videos like these, than capcom ever gave him during SFV's lifespan (it also hurts really bad)
I do appreciate the fact that Shun'ei wears what he wears due to Chinese teenager counterculture. I used to not care about him until Thougi's KOF Retrospective showed his past. While I'm not a huge fan, I do respect the character more. Edit: Also, I am going to be honest. I do not care for Anji. If he wasn't included in the next Guilty Gear game, I would not miss him.
It hurt me to put kollector on this list. I love that dumb goblin. However in the air of objectivity I am simply forced to. Considering he made his debut in the same game as Geras of all people, a character that is like he shoulda been there from day 1 though... only the elite few enjoy Kollector.
honestly as someone who doesn't play MK the first time I saw Kollector I thought he was like, a generic NPC you'd fight in the story mode, like the Shadaloo agents in SF5. He kinda sounds like a joke character given that they didn't even give him a name.
Hmm objective... I noticed you didn't add a certain greasy grappler. Me thinks some sneaky motte and bailey is going on with your Kollector addition (who is clearly loved by millions)
The Jin twins actually have a good reason for not returning: They were cured and reformed after the events of Fatal Fury 3. (And made other appearances in subsequent games) Even joining Kim Kaphwan school. After them the Bosses were Krauser and later on, White.
@shadowseal22 I bet you if you removed stuff from his outfit like the tie and the cape, then made his hair either red, blue, or both, then you would've had a better character design.
@@Rooflemonger Yeah but all those that have character/personality/aura/presence tend to blend in a bunch with how so many characters in KOF. If I were to ask who is the most edgey, serious character in this game you wouldn't know whom I'm referring to, is it Iori, K', or Khronen.
Matlok (Fighter's History) is also a breakdancer fighter Also he throws CDs as his projectile 💿 But yeah, Lucky Chloe is awesome "SPINNING BLADE!!" "OVERRATED KICK!!"
This sentence had me laughing: "Going into street fighter 6, there is just he is just not one pierce of anything referencing him at all. He is just dead and gone... and likely just relegated in the dustbin of history with characters like Remy" Because hilariously enough, Remy IS referenced in World Tour in SF6 so this is not the best comparison to make. But Necalli has indeed fuckall.
Yep, well said, Ed was one of the worst SF characters ever, but he looks ok in SF6. Still, SF6 was not able to save Luke, this piece of garbage is irredeemable
Katarina actually has one of the more interesting backstories, with her looking for her adoptive father who wound up being being turned into Gigas. I liked Katarina and I don't think she's truly dead and buried. My issue was Shun'ei is that I had no idea he was supposed to be the protagonist of KOF 14 because he wasn't in any of the advertising. Now I don't know what they were doing with Necalli. SFV's story mode was already horrible, but you could've skipped Necalli's parts and *nothing* would change.
'SFIV' also had a similar problem that 'KOF 14' had; in that it's nearly impossible to tell that Abel was supposed to be the central newcomer of the story, rather than C. Viper or Juri.
As someone who knows KOF through the manga instead of the games, I can say that Shun Ei’s personality is just the X-Men cliche. He was born with this power of magic hands, so he grew up with people afraid of him and calling him a freak. He then started training alongside sleepy boy to get a better grasp of his powers and how to use them for something good without the fear of being judged by others. It’s just ok really. What I really hate is his design, it looks like whoever drew him had 5 different ideas going on.
Thing is it's not random, it a Chinese style called Fei Zhu Liu where teenage boys wear in school. I don't understand it either but do really could understand some of the outfits in KOF. Like Kula looks like she's wearing a biker outfit but doesn't ride a motorcycle!
@@akilcharles3473The problem is that kind of design, outfit or style just doesn’t work and won’t work outside of China. Hell, even in China I bet Shun’ei kind of style won’t work for most of non-chinese people like Uyghurs or Tibetians. It is soooo chinese that only chinese can understand and related themselves to that design. On the other hand, I agree that Kula’s design, but it just cool and not standing that much, goes well with character and everybody knows what it is anyway.
@@myolgiden How can you say that when other characters are also from other countries like say Kyo's design is iconic but most won't know it being a school outfit he's wearing, or even the new girl Isla who's Shun' ei's rival has a mix mash of colors on her and yet that somehow gets a pass, doesn't seem fair does it. Shun' ei design is what in a any case stands out from others that are either generic or bland and not to mention how it looks in motion, you and I both saw that opening intro in that KOFXV anime style with his amplified spectre hands right, which btw are different colors matching him.
@@akilcharles3473 Because even divorced from its context, Kyo's design is clean and looks cool. Shun'ei just looks awful, and the effects for his hands have never looked good either.
@@AirLancer Kyo's design is generic but fits him well for being who he is. Shun'ei tho a bit more but stands out, there's alternate colors btw and for some it works.
Fun fact Shunei possesses moves from other characters: -Elizabeth's Uppercut -Jennet's Air dash -Kyo's Spinkick -Kyo's elbow attack -Rock's elbow tackle(This make sense as his teacher was also Tung) No doubt this guy was called mr. Recycled.
Katarina (Tekken 7) vs. Azucena (Tekken 8) is an interesting comparison of two similar character outlines on paper somehow translating into very different outcomes. I usually don't like dumb online conspiracies and gratuitous China-bashing but I gotta say Shunei always felt to me like a production by committee character design, created specifically to appeal to Chinese audiences during the Leyou era of SNK, and made to check very specific marketing boxes rather than created organically by a game dev team. That being said, I have zero idea whether he is actually popular in China.
As someone who speaks mandarin and checked the chinese platform like bilibili... I can tell you he's not. He's called cringe and...gaudy, the whole blue and red hands with green hair are the absolute worse.
Love this type of content. Can’t wait to see some VF stuff too with the rebirth of the franchise! Maybe some guides for those of us picking it up after you’ve been hyping a new entry?
Azucena is Kat with a personality, Diego is Jann Lee without the Bruce Lee element. I think both the characters could have worked if they had a more cocky but carefree attitude.
Necalli and Katarina are my mains in SFV and TK 7, respectively. Love them both so much. Great gameplay and fun I had with them. Hope you're wrong and they come back one day.
i think shun's single biggest problem is that he's defined almost exclusively by the people who surround him. his personality is kinda just "meiten's friend and isla's rival" more than any descriptor, it feels like he's prodded into action by people like heidern and isla and benimaru, and while there are some very effective reactive protagonists (goku, if you need a famous example) it's hard to give a damn about shun when his predecessors all get things DONE on their OWN terms. i know there's a manga out there that i've yet to read (i really should!) which probably gives him more to work with in the story department, but in the games it's just nothing doing. as a big DOA fan: at least diego's biggest crime is not being memorable. i'd take a thousand diegos over some of these godawful latter-day lady characters they added
I think you feel that way about Shun'Ei because SNK is just very bad at telling stories in their modern games. They have so much information about the character's personalities, motivations, wants, likes and needs but it is never in-game. It instead gets relegated to websites, non-cannon mangas, interview segments or some social media post (that's rarely translated). Shun'Ei is the way he is because he was raised in the mountains by Tung Fu Rue and has grown to fear his own power because he was abandonned by his parents after hurting them with it. He doesn't know a lick of fashion and just put on whatever he thought would make him look cool. He doesn't talk much because he doesn't know much about socializing and he's very polite because he was raised by Tung Fucking Rue. But none of this is in the game so you just see a try hard nothing burger when there's much more to him.
I love Meitenkun!!! He gets a lot of hate. He’s adorable, powerful, and I love charge characters. And to hear DoA men mentioned in quality without Brad Wong, the epitome of Zui Quan! Duuude.
Shun'ei's outfit being a bunch of clashing assets is weird but I feel like if he was this super flashy character I could buy it. It's just weird that he's a super withdrawn introvert without any strong personality traits when his design suggests the complete opposite. The only part of his look that expresses his canon personality are the headphones, everything else is just for show
Necalli looks so cool, but I have to say I only like him because of the hair effect. And the fact that his tonga looks like a censorbar for... doesn't help much.
when I first picked up VF5 I stumbled from character to character for a bit trying to find who I vibed with, went from Eileen to Lei-Fei to Wolf, then I fought Brad just once and the idiot walks into frame and says with the worst voice acting I've ever heard "It's the Brad show." and then I had my main forever
I agree that Meitenkun (and Isla, of course) is maybe the best new idea to come out of the current crop of KOF characters. He's such a vibrant and interesting character concept and visual design. I'm pleasantly surprised and happy Rufus and MODOK weren't on this list, as imo both were in the "great characters/concepts that people hated for silly reasons" camp. MODOK especially had one of the most ridiculous character pushbacks I can remember.
I don’t mind Shun’ei, hopefully he’s gets more of a spotlight and him having his rival will help fix it. Like them being on a team that’s going to be AWESOME!!!
Maybe a redesign is the only thing Shun'ei needs; even Kyo underwent a redesign. I'd thought Meitenkun was also a flop but apparently this video didn't think so. Benimaru is a weak third character for this hero team and should be replaced by Shen.
You know, I'd say we have a better chance of The Collector coming back than characters like Cetrion, who I really liked. Hell, after her last appearance, we'd probably see the collector before Nitara again.
I know who Morrigan is because Capcom keeps shoving her in my face. If Capcom kept shoving Jedah in my face as much as her, I and many others would know him just as much.
Isla should have been the protagonist of KoFXV and Shun'Ei could have been her doofy sidekick. Her design is high-tier and instantly gets across the idea that she's a Chilean graffiti artist that does parkour. Shun'Ei's design tells me nothing other than that his special needs teacher should probably help dress him in the morning. 🥴🥴
@@christianescalona859 Amusingly; Takayuki Nakayama, when talking about unused concept art for Gen's disciple in 'SFV', stated that he's "pleased to report that Gen is well", despite Gen seemingly succumbing to his wounds after his last encounter with Akuma.
No list of FGC duds would be complete without the new generation of Soul Calibur V... like, Patroklos was such a dud, he failed as a Re-skin of both his mother AND Setsuka!
I don't think you could formulate a character in a lab as dripless as Diego, like he just has no personality, no connection to any other character, nothing going for him, even Leon a character who basically nobody would think of outside of "Oh yeah, it's that one guy from DOA2" has more going on than Diego. Him standing alongside NiCO makes it even worse for him cause NiCO actually has things going on. All the other characters in this video at least have something going for them, either design or gameplay, Necalli has a really cool design, Shun'ei has cool moves, Kollector is kinda novel and funny, Katarina is both hot and easy to play, Diego has nothing.
From all of these guys. Necalli really deserves to come back. From all the new sfv heads, he's one of the best (design wise). He needs the redemption arc
i'm so glad you said that thing about diego being a character creator design because i was literally just thinking he looks like some default create a character setting 💀
Necalli was a victim of a long list of things that went wrong with SF5. I think he deserves another chance in a game Capcom actually gives a damn about but considering how they fumbled Gouken in SF4, a character previously "dead" and the source of fan rumors for like 30yrs, I'm not expecting much.
It says a lot about Shun’ei when his own rival upstaged him. On the Luke front, I feel like his early bird cameo in SFV did more harm than good. He’s fine in the game he was supposed to have debuted in (SF6), especially when coupled with the rest of his trio (Jamie & Kimberly). Hopefully Capcom does more with the three of them in the near future.
I don't necessarily think Luke is a "dud." His aura is pretty unserious, but he still has a significant presence that, while some didn't like, wasn't completely meaningless or objectionable. It also doesn't feel like they overpromised and underdelivered, like Necalli.
It doesn't help that Capcom had kept the identity of SFV's last DLC fighter a secret until right before the reveal, which caused many players to think that they would see a highly-requested character instead of a newcomer. Or that Luke ended up being a ripoff of Terry Bogard (with elements of SFIII's Alex and Sean), who would end up becoming a playable fighter in SF6 anyways. Or that many had assumed he was the same Luke from the cancelled 'Capcom Fighting All-Stars' game but reimagined, which was later stated to be coincidental.
Diego's design is just lackluster. He looks and acts like a rowsy teenager. Nothing about him screams respect or discipline. His outfits could have been better. However, DOA has a problem with male outfits in general.
i really want katarina to return with a revamped look. she's the first and only tekken character to use savate. her being brazilian and having bird motifs could help her characterization
I personally hate shuneis design because it feels like they wanted to make him appeal to a younger audience. They give him a school uniform to tell us he's a shonen protagonist (it makes no sense why he apparently has no time to change out of his uniform) and then wears a pair of headphones too like they think it's not obvious enough to anyone what sort of character he is. They just try way too hard to appeal to a younger audience (I am 15 for an idea who this is coming from) and it instead appeals to no one. This character specifically feels like a personal attack to me which is why I like it even less
This. It just feels like they were genuinely trying WAY too fucking hard to appeal to a younger audience and just totally fell on their face. The student outfit, the headphones, the anime hair, the hands, the one pant leg pulled up, it just screams "anime character" and has nothing that's unique.
Hate the new protagonist it's basically a tradition in KOF at this point, people really hated K' in His first appearance and hated Ash with burning passion, at least Shun Ei it's very popular in China that was supossed to be the Target of the character and most of his haters are ok with him now
Some honorable mentions are Rufus and abel from SF4, taven and Dagon as well as kung jin from MK, personally for me, lily was a massive let down in sf6, no matter what they do to her, even if she gets buffed to top tier, she will always be L tier, little girl Cheng, the gender bent one from kof was a better done concept. Now make a vid of the opposite, the absolute winners so we can glaze Khushnood Butt and Duck king...
Hey Shun'ei was rescued from the scrap heap with the KoF XIV A New Beginning Manga giving him some great characterization that was then carried over to KoF XV. Sure his design is goofy (I'd drop the work shirt and tie), but it fits with his backstory of living in the mountains. I do hope to see his story conclude whenever the devs are able to make KoF XVI and then lead us into a new storyline after that, preferably similar to the Nests Saga, similar to how this New Age saga felt like it had a similar tone to the Orochi Saga.
Personally, I really liked Kat and would be glad to see her return. She's fiery, like a female Miguel, and her buttons are satisfying. She's also tied to my main, Gigas - who was also an unpopular one-time addition. Both characters didn't have enough of a plot tie unlike Miguel and Anna, so people struggled to invest. With Kat you can make inferences about her style from the way she looks. Thick thighs means she's probably a kicker. Power stance lets you know she's confident and aggressive: she rushes down. She deserves another shot. As, of course, does Gigas. I would give a finger to see a hero Gigas who had regained some memories working against G-Corp.
I won't stand for the Shun'ei slander. I hate the stupid "everyone is back" plot instead of simply restricting dead characters to non-canon modes, but Shun'ei is great and my favorite KOF protag.

Next-gen casts are _always_ hit or miss, to be fair.
sc5 disaster of a roster could be its own video. Maybe worst roster of all time for a non-debut game
One of Bandai Namco’s biggest blunders[which says alot]. And I really hope we get a Soul Calibur 7 in the near future.
Kilik was in SCV!!! People just didnt play him!

You know what's crazy is I mained Diego for a little bit and I did not recognize who this was when you name dropped him at first lmao
Poor Shun'Ei. The issue isn't even that he's not cool, it's the fact everyone around him is such an absolute banger that "cool" just isn't enough to stand out.
I still prefer him over ash
Additionally; Isla, Shun'ei's (self-proclaimed) rival, is a far more compelling character than him - while also being a source of comedy due to her character flaws.
I remember his stance made him look kind of goofy in KOF XIV. His new stance in XV was much better.
I'm not a fan of his, but I hope he and Luke make it into the next Capcom vs. SNK, just to represent the new school of fighting games.
@@Narrator1 I think Shun'ei has one of the weakest looking supers I've ever seen in a fighting game...
He looks cool to me but his fashion just look out of place for KOF. Like if we take a look at some characters their clothing is pretty normal with some modified design to make them look more cool for fiction purposes. But for ShunEi's case I think they just went overboard where they crossed the concept line

My variation name for Geras while going through his Character Towers was "Wanna-Be Tremor."
if this becomes a thing i hereby nominate May Lee from KOF--she appeared in all of one canon title 20 years ago and two dream matches and to this day i see people pleading SNK to add her back. and i totally get it, taekwondo girl with a stance swap to tokusatsu hero complete with GIANT chop? speaks for itself.
Crimson Viper from sf4 has a great design
The interesting part in Tekken 7 is that Shaheen was also a character that everyone says nobody cares about, but they at least remember him as that nobody cares about. Katarina was just forgotten
Nobody likes Shaheen beyond his gameplay, but he is Tekken's first Middle East representative (as far as I can remember) and that's why they brought him back, as just taking him out would rub some people the wrong way.
i still think nobody gaf about shaheen outside his gameplay; he's only relevant coz he's actually strong im t8

It wasn't entirely Diego's fault that 6 was the last DOA, but he isn't blameless either

It hurt me to put kollector on this list. I love that dumb goblin. However in the air of objectivity I am simply forced to. Considering he made his debut in the same game as Geras of all people, a character that is like he shoulda been there from day 1 though... only the elite few enjoy Kollector.
honestly as someone who doesn't play MK the first time I saw Kollector I thought he was like, a generic NPC you'd fight in the story mode, like the Shadaloo agents in SF5. He kinda sounds like a joke character given that they didn't even give him a name.

This sentence had me laughing: "Going into street fighter 6, there is just he is just not one pierce of anything referencing him at all. He is just dead and gone... and likely just relegated in the dustbin of history with characters like Remy"
Because hilariously enough, Remy IS referenced in World Tour in SF6 so this is not the best comparison to make. But Necalli has indeed fuckall.
I played so much MK11 at launch and COMPLETELY forgot that Kollektor even existed, what a great pick for this video
necalli could have a SF6 redemption arc, there is a really cool character in there with the right design... if they can fix ed they can fix anyone lol
Yep, well said, Ed was one of the worst SF characters ever, but he looks ok in SF6. Still, SF6 was not able to save Luke, this piece of garbage is irredeemable
Shun'ei has a really good arc in the manga but that isn't reflected too well in the games sadly
Ive read that manga and even then minus the fact its not canon, he's still barely a character.
Dude needs a visual refresh
Fun fact Shunei possesses moves from other characters:
-Elizabeth's Uppercut
-Jennet's Air dash
-Kyo's Spinkick
-Kyo's elbow attack
-Rock's elbow tackle(This make sense as his teacher was also Tung)
No doubt this guy was called mr.

Azucena is Kat with a personality, Diego is Jann Lee without the Bruce Lee element. I think both the characters could have worked if they had a more cocky but carefree attitude.
I actually really liked Kollector too, never played him but his gremlin energy resonates with me.
I always liked his voice, I have a feeling we'll never get to see him again.
He’s adorable, powerful, and I love charge characters.

i remember playing necalli just based off how he looks
Shun'ei's outfit being a bunch of clashing assets is weird but I feel like if he was this super flashy character I could buy it. It's just weird that he's a super withdrawn introvert without any strong personality traits when his design suggests the complete opposite. The only part of his look that expresses his canon personality are the headphones, everything else is just for show
Thank you! Someone who appreciates Meitenkun!
Here for the Necalli redemption arc. I believe in SF6 dev team!
Everybody a hater until necalli rocking the streetwear walks in

Necalli looks so cool, but I have to say I only like him because of the hair effect. And the fact that his tonga looks like a censorbar for... doesn't help much.
They mamaged to make me interested at ED so i'd like to see how they will handle Necalli
Diego looks like if you mixed Travis Touchdown and Brad Burns but the cool factor got lost in transit
when I first picked up VF5 I stumbled from character to character for a bit trying to find who I vibed with, went from Eileen to Lei-Fei to Wolf, then I fought Brad just once and the idiot walks into frame and says with the worst voice acting I've ever heard "It's the Brad show." and then I had my main forever
Diego looks like a poor attempt at cosplaying Brad from VF.
And Brad is actually somewhat rememberable.
I really wish they give Shun'ei an improved design in the next game.
I think that, after the events of KOF XV, a more focused design would fit him better.
Maybe a redesign is the only thing Shun'ei needs; even Kyo underwent a redesign. I'd thought Meitenkun was also a flop but apparently this video didn't think so. Benimaru is a weak third character for this hero team and should be replaced by Shen.
They already gave us a better Shun'ei. She's called Isla.

Well said.
Iori upstaged Kyo and Elisabeth did the same with Ash during the Ash saga
It doesn't help that Capcom had kept the identity of SFV's last DLC fighter a secret until right before the reveal, which caused many players to think that they would see a highly-requested character instead of a newcomer.
Or that Luke ended up being a ripoff of Terry Bogard (with elements of SFIII's Alex and Sean), who would end up becoming a playable fighter in SF6 anyways.
Or that many had assumed he was the same Luke from the cancelled 'Capcom Fighting All-Stars' game but reimagined, which was later stated to be coincidental.

i really want katarina to return with a revamped look. she's the first and only tekken character to use savate. her being brazilian and having bird motifs could help her characterization
Lets not forget Able..or better yet lets keep him forgotten. Man showed up in SFV Story mode just to not even be playable 😂
14:08 - Diego looks like someone trying to cosplay as Travis Touchdown from No More Heroes.
These designs are not as cool as their lore. You keep showing me "forgotten" characters with much better designs than the legends.
