The Command Grab! The ultimate fighting game experience. Separating the weak from the strong, the command grab provides some of the most satisfying primal moments you can experience in a fighter. So that said not exactly a top 10 list here but here is some of the greatest command grabs in all of fighting games! From raw power to just the fun aesthetics of them, lets talk some good grabs! Watch, leave a like if ya could, and if you feel a grab was left out of the video feel free to post it in the comments!
T-Hawk damage is insane
no brum brum very good, hugo s2 will make may day, hugo was satysfying in sf4
Hugo's grab from SF3 and SF4 - Feel the full weight of his body. El Fuerte's SF4 grab - if you get grabbed, simply smell his bolds while he keeps your head in his thigh. Kinnikuman, Clark from KOF, Rugal... also it's weird you left out Shun Goku Satsu.
my favourite command "grab" is Ingrids Sun Upper and the super version of it Sun Delta from street fighter alpha 3 max
sun upper just has her raise a shield in front of her and if enemies get caught in it, she launches them up.
sun delta on the other hand is her super and it can grab enemies at range as the hit box is created at different ranges depending on which punch button you press.
this one also throws enemies up out of the screen, the difference being they're staying there much longer and the coolest thing is that, if you kill with it, the opponent doesn't drop back down, thus implying that their beaten and broken corpse is now floating in space.
Big Roof! I forgot about this one the first time I watched, but somebody HAS to mention Juggernaut's command grab from Xmen vs Street Fighter! The man is an OG "big boy" character, and he literally hammers you into the ground like a stake, then hits you with a righteous uppercut for good measure! Adding to the effect, he does the trademark "muahahah" laugh (that all grappler players are doing internally) when you land it, and you can juggle after it with the head crush super. This move has every element of the command grab honed to perfection.
Rooflemonger being a grappler ally makes this channel so much better
basically every other fgc yt channel hates, fears and belittles grapplers. So someone has to stand up and be a hero
theperfectname is also a grappler fan!
Snake Eyez has sent me to thank you. He has decreed that for your heroism, every Zangief you face for until you release your next video will whiff one SPD in thanks.
@@rooflemongerThat's what I love about your channel. Every time you talk about what makes grapplers so cool I just think "yep, he's one of us, he totally gets it".
You're the representation us glue sniffing grappler players need and deserve.
@@rooflemonger
And that's why you're our King.
👑
"If you don't want to think in fighting games you should play rushdown"
Truer words have never been spoken.
That's why people love SF6 and Tekken 8, thanks to the systems in the games every character can be played as rushdown character
stop the cap
Lol rushdown pressure goes brrrrr..
Or block and move, rushdown is real but fucking up rush pressure is certainly a viable option
@@jacobstringer5170 this guy is multilingual cause their speaking straight facts
block,punish and git gud
stop complaining and spend that time improving
The greatest command grab in fighting game history HAS to be the command grab that Capcom held on the SF5 fan base for years.
Love how many variations of costumes they had to do on that one.
😂😂😂
Wait, which grab?
LMFAO😭
King's rolling death Cradle combo still give me the nightmares, just the fact that a grappler can do combos with grabs was so impressive to me(and one of the reasons why I don like play against grapplers)
Also Orochi Yashiro's grabs deserved a mention, even where referenced in the Avengers Movie
Clark's kof grappling move when he points at where he's gonna dunk u is my personal favorite since kof99 😁
Marisa's command grab is one of my favorites. Just feels so satisfying to land.
everyone loves a good WHERE ARE YOU GOING
SWEET DREAMS!
Complete with a full-on TBI!
I love Izuna Drops from many ninja characters in fighting games.
Truly, you're a fighter of culture. Izuna Drops for LIFE!
Wolf actually has a Just Frame version of the Giant Swing too. In fact he got it 13 years before King did! Not only does it do more damage and throws farther, but it makes teching the landing to reduce the damage harder. It also makes Wolf recover faster so if you do it into a wall Wolf can actually follow up with an attack for even more damage!
Gotta mention my boy Beowulf from Skullgirls. He has a unique "Grab Stance" that he gets on all of his myriad of hit grabs/command grabs, and even his normal grab. What's cool about it is he has two different pummels, about five different enders with different properties, and a "Hype" meter that allows him to spend Hype to do "EX" enders that can chain into other grabs, go into combos, or give him godly oki. He also has a chair that he can land on while in grab stance to do extra damage, and you even get a unique ender if you have the chair and some Hype. Properly using meter, hype and assists lets you do some absolutely ridiculous grab combos (his 2MK is even an OTG grab letting you go even further) and to top it all off, if the killing blow is a certain EX finisher, a little penguin referee will slide in and tap the opponent out.
Beowulf is actually pretty difficult to master but when you do, you feel like a wrestling GOD and no other character in any other game comes even close. Some people might say "Um ackually it doesn't count because you don't really use a command grab and beo is more of an oki/setplay character" and to those people i say SHUT UP he is a goddamn pro wrestler grabbing you TAKE THIS THROW.
he's got crazy speed and mix. his hop dash into jMP is an overhead that links into HK for a stagger that you can grab/lv3.
he'd not a traditional grappler, I'd call him a brawler/bully.
5 medals Manon's grab. So elegant yet so deadly
Beo’s command grab chains feels so fun in Skullgirls.
Astaroth's launcher grab has to be my favorite; its the reason i like grapplers. Theres something so satisfying about it, plus doing the backbreaker followup is just so sweet
Shhh, it’s an unspoken rule that the FGC has to ignore SC for some reason.
SoulCalibur is godlike.
Astaroth is sorely missing from this list.
Listen I know it ain't a huge part of the character, but Goku Blue's grab being the one-inch punch was the reason I played him in the first place.
Command grab that on whiff unlike a lot of others give a safe mid attack… I wouldn’t say it’s super good. Brainless yes but compared to others it’s just a tool you use instead of rely on/ setup like others
@@SauceYT0300i mean, yeah.
He isn't a Grappler, he's a High Damage/Excecution Solo character with good utility.
He isn’t a grappler but Nago has one of my favorite grabs. The Vampire Bite! lol. Thanks for the video.
Fun fact, bloodsucking universe was originally seen on Slayer, meaning. The its likely a nightless move more so than anything else.
Surprised Hisako's suck from Killer Instinct didn't get a shout out. Ranged command grab that sucks you in from like half screen, and can be canceled into a counter (one of the other more hated archetypes) if they try to check you on it? Simply divine. Not to mention visually and thematically it's amazing with her possessing your body and making you break all your own bones.
I gotta admit... King doing the pedigree is rather inspirational
happy that argentinian backbreaker at least got a cameo at the end
My favorite type of command grabs are invincible ones. Ones that blow through strikes, throws, and other command grabs.
Mika does the giant swing the best! The animation on the way she scoops the legs is perfection.
Capcom, bring back my girl!
Hinako from KoF is the ultimate swinger, imo, but Mika is, indeed, super solid
Man that Ladiva Special is absolutely brilliant, don't think I've ever seen that before🤣
Shermie in earlier games used to be able to suplex the opponent into a pin and would attempt to count to 3 as well. It could instant KO if she reached 3. Was a hilarious knowledge check.
Shermie in previous games had a three count pin too.
And R. Mika has brought in wrestling rings too. Ladiva is just a fraud and I'll never get the appeal to be honest. Especially making the list over Clark, Alex, Kira, King, Mary Ivonskaya, and a whole host of other amazing Darkstalkers command grabs. Poison's grab is probably the only one even less deserving of a spot.
There's also Beowulf from Skullgirls. If you finish the fight with one of the Wulfamania super grabs, a penguin referee will appear and do a pin count to 3
@@JoaoLucasK Yes but that one is fairly new. Shermie three count is from 2002 and the other guy being shown here is from ancient ages.
It's crazy that this video didn't already exist on your channel.
HPB is still my favorite grab to hit. Snatching an obnoxious Chipp out of the air, flying him to the great beyond, and driving him down to Earth as he combusts into dust is such a satisfying experience.
That Gonzales throw was something else, though.
Grappler mains fuckin unite on this channel and I’m here for it
I absolutely love O. yashiro’s command grab. Man just picks opponent up with one hand and slams them on the ground left and right like a menace
Heavenly Potemkin Buster was such a enjoyable move, that it made me use Potemkin in GGS. So you can say HPB turned me into a grappler player
A personal favorite grab of mine was Ivy's Summon Suffering from Soul Calibur. So hard to input, so satisfying to land.
R. Mika was how I learned command grabs. Both of hers were great in SF5. I hope she returns in 6! Cool video
Mika bros, making people rage since 2016. Well.. i play her in alpha too but she was ass.
I know this is a grappler-centric video, but some non-grapplers have great command grabs too
I-no's Megalovania is a sadistic addition to her mix-up game that has a glorious animation on grab to-boot
gods I fucking love Megalo, nothing more satisfying than jump scaring an opponent who thought they could block.
Ridely’s side-B is what made me want to main the character. The way he drags his victim across the stage is brutal.
Honorable mention to T. Hawk's ultra II, it's an anti-air but the subsequent vicious slams make it one of the best ultras in the game for me.
10/10 Amazing. The worst thing about games with optional ultras is the amount of super cool ones that inevitably worst than the generic alternative.
@@TheGreektrojannot in t hawks case tho id sau
How is NOBODY talking about calamity symphony or summon suffering? The input alone is enought to be iconic, nevermind the animations or just ivy as a character being so iconic.
ivy is my main, it was on the list before i cut down but to be honest its not quite the same as many of the grabs where you get that big dunk feeling
@@rooflemonger it sure feels just as bad to get hit by it 😭😭😭
Zangief: Nothing scares me but this thing.
*Ice Climbers try to grab you*
Zangief: It scares me 😱😭
ICs are a nightmare for big characters. Even without wobbling, they can still inescapably chain throw you to the edge and meteor you into the blast zone. Meteor cancelling is your only saving grace
no smashers here
I'm still waiting for the day we finally get the dream: the full screen, zero frame command grab.
closest we ever got to such power was injustice 1 superman, 2 frame full screen overhead
Phoenix Wright?
strive axl's cmd grab against new players might as well be frame zero
I love accidentally doing a HPB and sending the opponent to gangsta’s paradise
Maybe not as flashy on the actual throws but I like Clark's command grabs because a lot of them has him taunt during or after them, like with the frankensteiner and the Argentine Backbreaker super.
I love 90s KOFs sooooo much
I love that Tager's astral destroys the stage haha.
God I love Ladiva.
Also as like the only person who liked Abel apparently, I liked his command throw. Was just fun to do
Needs a cheeky callout to Victor from Vampire Savior
Special shoutouts to Kirby's inhale, Ganoncide, and the five different ways Kanji will chuck a fool before electrifying them with his persona.
Funny part of Ladiva SSBAing 2B she stay expressionless like nothing is happening
Command grabs are the coolest moves out there! Every fighting game character should have one.
That last command grab you showcased was a pleasant surprise. It reminded me of another animation I really loved. Not a fighting game, but in Pokémon: Battle Revolution, Seismic Toss would throw the opposing pokémon into space and back, and to me, no other Seismic Toss animation could compare! XD
Dead Or Alive's context-specific throws were something. I had a friend who would always manage to hit me with Leon's "drowning" throw on stages with shallow water.
Every time I jump back into a DoA game I find something sick, it's such a shame it mostly just existed at 'the titty game' most of the time - there's some damn cool game underneath all those tits.
Landing a Potemkin Buster in Strive is still the most satisfying 360 imo. There's just something about making someone lose 40% of their life with one swift move that is just *chef's kiss*
Its kind of funny how simple yet complex grapplers are in their own way. Sure you just gotta do the grab and get big damage but getting the opponent into position for the grab is the puzzle and a fun one that I regularly enjoy. Whether its armoring through an attack to catch the opponent, knocking the opponent up for an air grab, pulling the opponent into my grab, or anything else, its very thrilling like the build up before a big finale.
Would have added Killer Instinct (2013)'s General RAAM shank grab into stomp mix-up
I was hoping someone would shout out RAAM ❤️❤️ I know for certain you are a very kind and generous person and I thank you for existing
Not much going on the last few days so I figure, why not a fun little video thats a bit different? That said though tomorrow is MK1 patch + ermac day so expect a bunch of coverage on that and man an akuma trailer this week would be nice? lol
I was really hoping to see Clark be a focus but I'm happy that he was in the video at all. His Lvl3 Super Move is so damn cool in KoF15 :)
I could listen to Roofle talking about grapplers for an entire day
Kotal Khan's MKX Sun God variation had a great command grab. Especially when you hit the brutality.
if it's MK, it has to be Jax quad grapple. simple, brutal, mean as fuck brutality.
Quick shoutout to my boy Incineroar in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He's got:
- The best clothesline if you perfectly time the side b
- Zangief's double lariat and calls it the Darkest Lariat
- An awesome as fuck counter mechanic in Revenge
- The CRUNCHIEST German Suplex ever as a back throw
- A purple color that resembles Big the Cat from the Sonic series
Smash peaked with this character (Terry Bogard is a lot of fun though) and there's no way Sakurai can top this achievement.
disagree with the last sentence but I do think Incineroar might be the best-designed newcomer in Ultimate which is cool to say for the series' truest grappler
Loved the video! I was always partial towards Gan's throw in Rival Schools when he grabs you by the legs with one hand and smashes you around for a bit. Good times
Thanks for this video, Rooflemonger! Two of my favorite command grabs are the 3 part command grab from Goro Daimon from KOF and Clark’s pointing and running back and forth while slamming the opponent on opposite sides of the screen.
There are so many wonderful command grabs, I'd love to see a part 2 this video!
My favorite command grab is still King's Muscle Buster from Tekken 3 onwards, it always looks so cool and feels so good to land.
From the Persona Arena games, Kanji's Bet Ya Can't Take This is the rare command grab that you input in mid-air, and that can still land on a grounded opponent.
MVC3 has Tron's Bonne Mixer, which i love since it starts by planting you in the ground, then spinning you around through the dirt, making it one of the few command grabs with negative elevation.
And, of course, Street Fighter has a bevy of options, from the WTF value of Vega's Izuna Drop to the anti-fireball tech of Birdie's Hanging Chain to Manon's incremental power-ups to her Manège Doré.
You mentioned Wolf, I am really glad. Wolf has also another cool grab stoled by Zangief, the infamous Thundra Storm. In VF universe, this move is called Dragon Screw. You should check, if you like Wrestling.
Truly a man of the people, great video, that last one was actually incredible lmao
I just wanna say Gera's command grab in mk 11 where he picks you up over his shoulder, runs u to the corner, punches u in the face if you hit the wall, and just walks away talking shit is one of the greatest command grabs of all times just for animation sake and satisfaction. I love that hes back in mk1 but his command grab isnt nearly as fun in mk1. I hope he gets that particular command grab back in every iteration he's in
I love that one, it was on the list before i had to start cutting moves to make the video not an hour long
@rooflemonger damn, that's wassup. I appreciate him being in the small clip in the begining anyway
I like Solomon Grundy's "Pain Chain" trait grab. Just a single button to initiate it so no need for stupidly complex inputs and it has 3 main variations that each grant a different buff. It also combos from a lot of things.
Vega's "Izuna Drop" is also fun.
grundy has a whole video on the channel dedicated to just how much he owns
@@rooflemonger :
Still worth a mention in a video titled like this.
Just stopping by to acknowledge Chrome Dome from TMNT Tournament Fighters. Dude had a frame zero command grab pile driver, a projectile, a chip damage super, and Dhalsim style extendable arms and legs. Truly a god among me --- I mean robots.
Did you know that +R Potemkin Buster is a low crush move ?
Yeah, we don't know why either.
In Final Fight Revenge, Haggar could Piledriver the opponent through the planet and back around, but onlynif the roullette wheel landed on it... cause super command throw activating a roulette wheel was a thing
Gief's best SPD is from SF4. Specifically the EX version. he slams ya so good you keep spinning on the floor after it.
Spinning Piledriver for life.
Love your channel roofle from one grappler main to another keep the great content coming 🔥🔥🔥
So many comments mentioning more moves I've never heard of 😮
There needs to be a part 2 of this.
Ground throws which are quite rare. Shoutout to the best one of it's kind - Geese's. "Stand up! DIIEE!"
What a glorious video. A museum of the most gratifying grabs of all time.
I need a part 2 of this video lol the grabs in the Fgs are a visual art imo.
The walk up grab in the start syncing with your intro is so neat. W editing.
YOU FORGOT THE BIG MAN(forgot the name, been forever since I played the game) FROM FIGHTING VIPERS! His Wreaking 8 ball is a chef kiss to grapplers.
I just love potemkin so much, but it also brings me joy to see all the beautiful grabs from so many beautiful games
I loved hakan's oil coaster. Something about him using the oil on his body to spin you around and create enough momentum to slam you into the wall was so fun. He was fun in general, and will never come back lmao 🥲
I feel King deserves a mention for his Rolling Death Cradle. The fact that it's at the end of an escapable chain grab sequence and does absurd damage makes it notable in my opinion. Great video!
Android 16's dunks are how I found this channel.
bless 🙏
shoutouts to Blue Mary and all her follow up grabs.
She has grabs, she has counters and charge moves, a character after my own heart.
Darun Meister's G.O.D. and Rasputin's Secret Garden. Definitely two of the more unique command grabs.
Tager imo is the most interesting grappler in all fighting games due to his unique mechanic alone. So much utility and combo routes when using it optimally. He does not get enough credit for what he does.
one of the most fun grapplers ever
Always nice to see Vice! Great video Roofle
Very entertaining video, mate! I love me some command grabs, and you showed quite the variety here. I'd like to have seen Ryoko from Karnov's Revenge and World Heroes, as well as Shermie in the classic KoFs and KOF XV, as well as command grabs for characters that are not dedicated grapplers.
But hey, the video is great! Much respect, and Please Come to Brazil.
If we talk about grapplers, we must mention the game that have a full roster of grapplers, Saturday night slam masters and it sequel from Capcom
Honorable mention to Clark in KOF. He's not much of a grappler, but I also like the Benimaru Corridor. He holds you in place and electrocutes you. Some games give it a satisfying follow up where Beni kicks the opponent while they're on the ground.
Ladiva Skybound is just such an amazing example of a command grab super.
The whole "counting to 3" is genius, but the greatest moment is the having enough HP to survive it, the announcer goes "OH! WE GOT A FIGHTER!!" 10/10
Love this kind of video, not sure if you have more like this but I came to know you as the guide-writer. Historian Roofle is very welcome!
I got a playlist of videos that arent just news/guides somewhere on the main page. When the usual cycle dies down a bit I go for a bigger variety of videos
I'm not even a huge grappler fan, and this video was a blast to see all the different types of dunking and tossing characters around. The only reason I'm not a huge fan is that I like kicking in fighting games way too much, but hey, I had my share of fun playing with King, Abel, Laura and Bass/Tina Armstrong!
Ryuji Yamazaki's super command grab is one of the best IMO cuz it gives you the choice of what you wanna do to the opponent.. it is hilarious
Great vid
My favorite command grabs probably Mike Haggars Backdrop from marvel 3
Its nothing fancy but just how fast it happens feels tailor made to just surprise your opponent
Is nobody else going to mention the first seconds of the video? When Waldstein's walk up and command grab syncs perfectly with Rooflemonger's "Hel. Lo. And. WELCOME!"
Made me lol at least.
Bowser in Project M has one of my favorite command grabs, Koopa Claw. Once you latch on you have so many opportunities to mix up your opponent's attempts at mitigation. He has three throws out of it, all of whose timings can be mixed up and they're all mixups of each other.
Throw 1: Bowser headbutts the opponent with a reactably slow animation, popping them straight up for a follow-up. If they DI away it's reactable and leads to a follow-up that can kill in the right circumstances. If they DI in the follow-up is read only, but kills much earlier.
Throw 2: Bowser YEETS the opponent hard behind him unreactably fast. If they DI in, they get sent basically straight back, securing disgustingly early kills.
Throw 3: Bowser spikes them into the ground like a football, immediately setting up oki. In the air he instead punches them down into the ground and it can't be meteor cancelled.
If you're good (and lucky) you can do stupid shit like pillar loops where you command grab them > throw 1 > j.Koopa Claw > throw 3 > jab (otg force wake up) > Koopa Claw > repeat until they tech or successfully mix their DI
I think another crucial aspect of the spinning piledriver is the sense of timing. Zangief repositions the opponent just long enough to recognize the move (less than a second usually), followed up by jumping and spinning in the air (the bulk of the total animation), and then crashing back down into the stage releasing all the momentum (paired with tons of screen-shake to give the feeling of impact).
Mii brawler's suplex or any of Geese's counters are very interesting and cool.
XD awesome! so many cool command grabs in fighting games! even though I mostly prefer zoners I still can appreciate cool command grabs
Your love for grapplers is what made me a fan of this channel
Grappler4lyfe!!
Love these types of videos from you, @rooflemonger. Waiting on the "Who is A.B.A" video 😏
I thought about doing a aba lore video, but to be frank her lore is almost non existent. if it was even 5 minutes long i'd be stretching it as hard as I could
Damn this was a really nice put together vid and I caught it early too lol
Love these type of videos. Feel a little jaded for my boi Beowulf
Great video! Definitely needs a part 2. Saturday Night Slam Masters? For me, the greatest command grab is Vega's Rolling Izuna Drop, especially off the cage. Just epic. A psychotic ninja matador interacting with the background, then flying at you and basically german-suplexing you over and over.
I love command grabs like KoFs Chang where they slams you repeatedly from you side to another like a ragdoll.
I remember trying the command grabs IRL with my little brother when I was a kid, specially the giant swing lol
1) You're going to need a Vol. 2/ Sequel video.
2) From the Street Fighter series, you'll need E. Honda's grabs from USF4 and G.
3) From SoulCalibur, you'll need Ivy. She has TWO command grabs that are as damaging as they are difficult to execute.
4) While I respect your decision to use Wolf to show the overall beauty of the Giant Swing, King's Rolling Death Cradle is DEFINITELY contender for this type of list.
Kudos on such a quality list, and PLEASE keep up the good work.
I dont know how nobody has pointed this out yet - *_Tager does not break you over his knee._* It's over his back, same as the Pot Buster.
Great subject. Brilliant.
