I think a redesign that even SNK is sleeping on is Ryo Sakazaki's Fatal Fury Wild Ambition redesign, they put it as an alternate costume in KoF Maximum Impact 2 but that was about it. Before the original SNK closed down, they gave him two big redesigns, the black gi in Buriki One (Which also showed up in NeoGeo Battle Coliseum) and Fatal Fury Wild Ambition (PS1 port) when he shows up older and using the alias of Mr.Karate, but sporting his orange gi trousers, a black muscle t-shirt with gray details and a stubble, his moveset had some cool changes as well. When I saw Ken in SF5 it felt like Capcom was doing their own spin on that design with Ken, it looked fine in concept but the 3D model didn't turn out so well.
Liu Kang started as an orphan child, to Shaolin's prodigy, to Chosen One, to Earthrealm champion, to mindless zombie, to corrupt revenant, to Dark Emperor, to God of Fire, to Time Keeper, and currently to a literal Creator of the Universe. I assume that's why he isn't here. In hid case, like Athena or Benimaru in Kof having a different design everytime is his whole thing. It's not like there is a main classic design that was eventually changed.
My top favorites redesigns...a few are here but here are ones that didn't appear. 1-Cammy White: She actually got a redesign you TOTALLY FORGET HER, her doll blue costume is unique from the Alpha series and the crossover series, then she have an upgrade of her original leotard in SFV that mirror her cannon spike look and that continues to be her look for her classic costume 2 in SF6 and finally her new costume change in SF6, I remember hating that design when I saw the leak concepts, but when we saw her in motion, I instantly fall in love with her new look....you can't go wrong with jackets it seems, Terry show us that. 2-Raiden: Specially from MK1 to MKII I love his redesign in II, to me is his most iconic redesign of them all. 3-Millia Rage: Specifically her change from the first game to the Accent Core redesign, I absolutely love that design, the white hoodie with blue details and black undies is iconic and I was quite sad when in XRD they changed to her current design, is okay but to me her Accent Core is her most iconic design. 4-Elphelt Valentine: Nope not doing that 1 character per series that limited so many cool redesigns......Elphelt OG bride design was awesome, but when XRD Revelation came they changed to that white and black more stylish cyberpunk wedding dress.....and it ROCKS, love this design as much as her original.....but Strive give her an all new design and I also like it a lot, not as much as the previous 2 but is cool still. 5-Kitana: her redesigns she have gotten thought the years can be from amazing to massive let downs, my favorites of her are her OG from MKII, then her first changed outfit in MKIII probably my favorite, then her iconic design from MK9 and......I actually like her design in MK11 which I know is one many people have issues with, but I think of all her modern designs besides 9, this one was my favorite. 6-DeeJay: Of all characters changes I have seen thought the years in SF games, I will say no one got a glow up as good as DEEJAY in SF6, his new look absolutelly eclipse his original in almost every way possible. 7-Sakura: Street Fighter alpha and 4 and crossover sakura original school girl outfit is great but I absolutely love what they did for her in SFV, let her finally grow up and giving an equally iconic new look was great and I hope she get in SF6 just to see how they evolve her look. 8-Kyo Kuzanagi: I think he is probably the best when it comes to redesign his look, his OG was iconic, but since KOF99 his look changed drastically and in my opinion is his best look, again JACKETS XD....his white jacket, black shirt and blue pants and cool chain for the Nest saga is my favorite outfit, then his more modern new costumes aren't bad either. 9-Juri Han: I really think this is one character that Capcom loves update her costume, her OG was already great, her SFV motorcycle jumpsuit is also great and her newest design in SF6 is as great as her original, she also have some of my favorites alternatives costumes....her battle costume in V the yoga pants and pink highligh in her hair may be the inspiration of her new look, her pijama costume in SF6 is just too damn adorable. 10-Cody: From Final Fight to SFV the changes to Cody are as iconic as the character and actually show a great character developed though the years, he went from casual hero, to criminal to the Mayor of Metro City is really one of the most wild resigns I have ever seen in a fighting game, evolving the character with the times.
RE: Killer Instinct Redesigns I mean sure, KI13 didn't miss even once, but let's not forget what a leap in design some characters had from KI to 2/Gold. The Robot Arms on Sabrewolf, the way WAY better jumpsuit on Orchid, the eyepatch on TJ Combo, the not showing up of Riptor and Chief Thunder, all good changes.
Rober Garcia gets new outfits cause he's rich and the Sakazakis stay in their old outfits because they're poor... Not the real reason probably but I just think it's funny.
Although Robert had a cool redesign, I believe the Iori redesign in KOF 13 was the best, where they took away the flames and gave him the claw attacks.... sadly they backed down and Iory with flames came back as dlc.... Oh! And Kyo NEST vs Kyo Orochi was an amazing redesign as entirely changed his move set..
I love Terry Bogart, even since when I didn't know that he was popular. BUT, number one should clearly be one of the Dead or Alive characters, such as Ryu Hayabusa, Ayane, Zack, Bass, or Hayate/ Ein, etc.
Ryo Sakazaki redesigned into great Mr Karate in Wild Ambition. Rugal in 94 - into Cyborg Rugal in 95 Reptile from MK - into reptile form MKDA, Onaga in Deception, Shapeshifter in 12 Many redesigns in MK3, First of all Sub-Zero Unmasked. Bison - into SF6 Siegfrid - into Nightmare. Many in MKDA.
So here is probably my favorite redesigns in video games. *Noel's Redesign In Blazblue:Chronophantasma* As much as I love Noel's original design being iconic, I do like how Chronophantasma gave Noel an outfit after she defected from the NOL. Gave her a sense of individuality. Love the long hair, blue accessories, and probably liked how she was able to express herself. After years of almost becoming a weapon I'm glad she was given a design. Still miss her hat and hiding her short hair. *Millia's Redesign (XRD/Strive)* While she isn't my favorite I love Millia's story and I love her oranges and yellows. I might go for Strive as Millia is given an outfit for an assassin. Love the russian hat I don't know what the name is and loved how animated her hair is. Glad they redesign her because I thought she was Ky's twin sister due to the blues and whites. *Kazuya Mishima (Tekken 8)* I love Kazuya's outfit. Inspired by his iterations I love how he is given a suit mixed with a trenchcoat. It shows how far he has fallen and became the main antagonist of said series, after he defeated Heihachi. He has become the very thing he hated and based on his stare you know he means business. *Akuma (Street Fighter 6)* Oh man is Akuma terrifying in SF6 and this might be my favorite design for Akuma period. He has white hair, a messy beard, his muscles appear weaken but its a given how he's a street hermit. And I love how ferocious he is. He is closer to the Satsui No Hado. Love how demonic he looks and it seems like he is tapping into the Oni Form little by little.
I was hoping to see Noel Vermillion from BlazBlue on the list. She got a major redesign in the third game, Chronophantasma, due to story reasons. You can still use her classic design if you prefer that costume.
I don't think Liu Kang is the biggest redesign in MK when it took lots of games for his first drastic change in Deception, while other characters have had major changes within a single game. Shang Tsung went from really old to young and muscular. Jax from having human arms, to robotic ones. The original Sub-Zero (Bi-Han) became Noob Saibot. Smoke became a full on cyborg. When it comes to the originals, it should go to Reptile. But as a character, it should be given, undisputed, to Kuai Liang. He went from Tundra to Sub-Zero in MKII (off screen), then lost his mask in 3 while being the only ninja in the game. Then had his arms frozen in DA, in Deception got his mask back and became the Shredder (one of the best skins ever), in Armaggedon was a mix of classic and DA that was later used in MKDC... but in MK9, he became Cyber Sub-Zero. In MKX was also a revenant and in MK1 he had the MOST DRASTIC change in MK history by becoming Scorpion! That's like Ryu being Ken in SF7. Speaking of Street Fighter, no design tops the change Seth had from IV to V.
I definitely considered him! The white jacket is sharp. Perhaps a Volume 2 for this topic will be planned some day and I'll give Kyo his proper credit!
MK11 past Liu Kang was peak Liu Kang design Edit: Also in my opinion the best redesign in fighting games was Kyo Kusanagi going from his school uniform to his NESTS outfit. NESTS styled Kyo is peak.
Here is a idea for a list Top 10 elemental masters The rules The element master have to at least have 3 elements in they arsenal. They need to about to use all they elements equally. They cant favor one element over the others They need to be able to use they elements on they own without outside help
It's like Darkstalkers for me, where the characters have such fun designs and the artstyle is cool that I love playing it just to see the characters in action.
Athena and Kyo were both considered, but for Athena, it was kinda like my Yoshimitsu "unwritten rule," it's the standard design for Athena is changing her design every game, so she didn't keep an exact look for multiple games like every other character on the list. That doesn't disqualify her, but since the redesigns were the norm for her, I wanted to stick with characters whose redesigns weren't as expected.
I have to be honest, I vastly prefer Chun Li’s redesign in Street Fighter 6, because everything works and looks recognisable as something an older Chun Li would wear, where as if her Alpha redesign didn’t have the jacket with the same crescent design as her classic dress, it could be an outfit for anyone.
I'd love to cover more fighting game costumes! Since there are way more alternate costumes compared to how many existed in 2015 when I last covered the topic, I might just do it on specific types of clothing, like when I covered fighting game jackets, to narrow down the options. I think I proposed fighting game suits at one point.
Yoshimitsu was in this grey area for me since being redesigned is the norm for him, rather than it being a surprise with a lot of these other characters. All of them had the same design for a few games, making the redesign a bit more impactful. Still, that's just my personal "unwritten rule" and Yoshimitsu's redesigns are very important to the history of Tekken and Soulcalibur.
Chun-Li got all the love in SFV for how many costumes she's got!

Fox kid top 10 shows / Fox Family /4 kid TV show
OMF&...yes😍🥰
For some reason, I was expecting Kiro Talks to be a guest host. He did a similar video on this too
RE: Killer Instinct Redesigns
I mean sure, KI13 didn't miss even once, but let's not forget what a leap in design some characters had from KI to 2/Gold. The Robot Arms on Sabrewolf, the way WAY better jumpsuit on Orchid, the eyepatch on TJ Combo, the not showing up of Riptor and Chief Thunder, all good changes.
You can use Chun-Li’s alpha costume in x-men vs. streetfighter by holding select button for 5seconds before pressing (Triangle, Circle, Cross, Square)
Honorable Mention: Noel Vermillion
Personally, I like Terry's KOF 14 look
Rober Garcia gets new outfits cause he's rich and the Sakazakis stay in their old outfits because they're poor...
Not the real reason probably but I just think it's funny.
I like that theory. Maybe The Sakazaki family has more money ever since Takuma's noodle business.
It's obvious robert cares more about fashion
31:24 What a missed opportunity to start singing Mika's Grace Kelly.
Cody is like a Whole New Character, when Capcom Revamps him as Metro City's Mayor.
How did you not choose SF6 Dee Jay? He had the most drastic change
I love a good redesign.
To me, it shows growth and development in their life, which adds to the charm.
Would love to see a worst redesign
Ryo Sakazaki redesigned into great Mr Karate in Wild Ambition.
Rugal in 94 - into Cyborg Rugal in 95
Reptile from MK - into reptile form MKDA, Onaga in Deception, Shapeshifter in 12
Many redesigns in MK3, First of all Sub-Zero Unmasked.
Bison - into SF6
Siegfrid - into Nightmare.
Many in MKDA.
So here is probably my favorite redesigns in video games.
*Noel's Redesign In Blazblue:Chronophantasma*
As much as I love Noel's original design being iconic, I do like how Chronophantasma gave Noel an outfit after she defected from the NOL. Gave her a sense of individuality. Love the long hair, blue accessories, and probably liked how she was able to express herself. After years of almost becoming a weapon I'm glad she was given a design. Still miss her hat and hiding her short hair.
*Millia's Redesign (XRD/Strive)*
While she isn't my favorite I love Millia's story and I love her oranges and yellows. I might go for Strive as Millia is given an outfit for an assassin. Love the russian hat I don't know what the name is and loved how animated her hair is. Glad they redesign her because I thought she was Ky's twin sister due to the blues and whites.
*Kazuya Mishima (Tekken 8)*
I love Kazuya's outfit. Inspired by his iterations I love how he is given a suit mixed with a trenchcoat. It shows how far he has fallen and became the main antagonist of said series, after he defeated Heihachi. He has become the very thing he hated and based on his stare you know he means business.
*Akuma (Street Fighter 6)*
Oh man is Akuma terrifying in SF6 and this might be my favorite design for Akuma period. He has white hair, a messy beard, his muscles appear weaken but its a given how he's a street hermit. And I love how ferocious he is. He is closer to the Satsui No Hado. Love how demonic he looks and it seems like he is tapping into the Oni Form little by little.
AOF3 Robert is very stylish, for me definitely best version of him with no doubt.
Closest thing to a change ryo got was facial hair and removing his gi in fatal fury wild ambition. His name was Mr karate but it’s obviously ryo
I was hoping to see Noel Vermillion from BlazBlue on the list. She got a major redesign in the third game, Chronophantasma, due to story reasons. You can still use her classic design if you prefer that costume.
It is noteworthy especially since Blazblue characters kept the same sprites in each iteration of that game, with the exception of Noel.
It would of been nice if Cammy got a mention too, along with Jin in Tekken 4
Kyo kusanagi also was redesigned...from original black jacket, pants to jeans and white jacket
His Nests Saga design imo is his best design by far
Not to nitpick, but u forgot to mention Liu Kang now wearing guantlents in MK2 & onwards
Chun Li Portion: Whoever put her in a wedding dress had dreams 😂
Hm, interesting list, i wonder what Redesigns we could see in the future?
Say, how does a Top Ten Next Gen Fighting Game Characters sound like?
Speaking of Street Fighter, no design tops the change Seth had from IV to V.
no one in street fighter got a bigger glow up than Dee Jay in both fighting style and aesthetic style
kyo kusanagi from kof could 've been on that list. Great video.
I definitely considered him! The white jacket is sharp. Perhaps a Volume 2 for this topic will be planned some day and I'll give Kyo his proper credit!
MK11 past Liu Kang was peak Liu Kang design
Edit: Also in my opinion the best redesign in fighting games was Kyo Kusanagi going from his school uniform to his NESTS outfit. NESTS styled Kyo is peak.
Here is a idea for a list
Top 10 elemental masters
The rules
The element master have to at least have 3 elements in they arsenal.
They need to about to use all they elements equally. They cant favor one element over the others
They need to be able to use they elements on they own without outside help
05:39 best fight idle stance ever
07:11 literally Tao Pai Pai from Dragonball
You didnt mention Terry's BIGGEST redesign though? You know... as a girl?
I gotta play The Last Blade someday. It looks fun
It's like Darkstalkers for me, where the characters have such fun designs and the artstyle is cool that I love playing it just to see the characters in action.
It's one of the best fighters ever made. You should definitelly try it. 1 is great, but 2 is where it's at.
in x-men vs street fighter, you can play use the alpha costume for chun-li by holding start.
Tekken's Jack keeps changing. Obviously Jack-3, Jack-4, Jack 5, Jack 6 etc
Tekken 7 Bryan. It’s a whole game later and it’s still his best drip
SSF4AE Evil Ryu. Massive upgrade to SFA2
30:00 funnily enough, South Town is actually supposed to be based on Miami. So yes, South Town is in Florida
I looked it up before making the joke, so I got lucky that I said the Marlins and not the Rays since my source just said "Florida."
Terry represents Fatal Fury, so not having Athena from KOF seems like an oversight.
To be honest, I was expecting Aba from Guilty Gear Strive
Nah aba is nothing compared with Potemkin MF was a sleeve that if not follow instructions he will die to a damm soldier
You should do a video on Fighting game characters who are rivals???
Kof 14 was the first game in the series I owned, so I'm biased towards it
Been watching videos here and there, how about favorite alt costumes seies wide ie:street fighter,tekken..etc.(checked...revisted then?)
No Yoshimitsu? He is the poster boy of changing looks every game. he could have been his own video.
Not picking k999 or yoshimitsu is wild
Robert changes his outfits... BECAUSE HE'S RICH!
I lie how Capcom vs SNK redraw Ryu, Ken, Akuma & Bison from their Alpha sprites
I'm sad Ryo didn't get that FF:Wild Ambition inspired alternate outfit for 14.
