Some devs should found a studio where there will never be -- _can never be_ -- an HR department, and all hiring will be done by meritocracy only. That's how gaming could heal.

Funny thing is that this is been going on longer than anyone realizes (including myself probably) Shit started with the "summer of love riots" and now because of that you get all this sort of "sterilization" in gaming similar to movies and comics. Its like a slow moving rot in the industry that just sticks itself to anything and sucks the life out of it, then moves on to the next host (examples are Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and on the gaming side Ubisioft is the worse of it). As Asmon said SBI is just a small portion of the problem, not the entire thing. There are many other SBI "like" groups (Baby ghosts, Hit Detection, BGG, Etc.)

Even if you’re not a large enough studio to have a de jure policy from a DEI/HR mommy, you still have multiple sources of soft and hard pressure from bankerbois, industry groups, and the lovely games journalists. The soft pressure is strong enough to be affecting Japanese devs at this point. It’s truly unfortunate, but it’s legitimately “less wrong” to assume any game with certain character archetypes will be more of the usual slop

SBI was not destroying games, studios fired old guard and hired newbs with barely dried ink on their college diploma. So extremely leftie crowd. Studios went full woke before SBI showed there, but gamers prefered to cope with reality by lying to themselves that it was some outside power ruining games from studios they liked/loved and not studios themselves.
Gaming is a luxury anyway. If AAA game devs want to dunk on their games and customers they are free to do so. I wonder if it's going to work out for them financially. 75% to 90% of the playerbase in these kinds of genres is male, and they almost all choose a male character if there is an option to choose between female or male like mass effect. Ussually a game has to counter weight that taste preference by appealing in other ways. Thing is that AAA game dev struggles to produce enough quality and novelty to counter weight that preference these days, western devs are too up themselves to appeal with hot characters anymore, and the market is incredibly competitive lately with many other options.
Well... the future of AAA was already cooked when it became AAA... As soon as investors and the stock market got involved, they already started the timer for their inevitable downfall... When you start to treat a creative field purely as a business endeavour and your main focus is to increase the profit margins from quarter to quarter, then you've already f*cked up.
Or to make the investors happy with the insane amount of microtransactions they add in a single-player only game. "Please investors, look at the amount of microtransactions we added to this game, we're going to swim in money once the players buy all this cosmetic stuff and exp bonus!"

I seem to remember Nurgels most devote streamer covering how it, was a game about a poor single woman who was likely native American white in Louisiana in a monster apocalypse. who sbi got involved then replaced with some random black lady that doesn't fit the plot, then they got rid of the entire story which was already most likely a commentary on the discrimination and struggle of native Americans the working class and rural people, and Asmond keeps bringing up at least four times now and keeps being reminded by viewers and comments but this game he magically forgets unlike the other sbi games; like brother if you want to play the game just do it, stop doing these weird schemes to have your cake and eat it too, now I suspect he uniquely is scheming for just this game and wants to play just this game because it is uniquely getting rid of commentary on the poor or rural people or natives or a mixture of a few or all which for once isn't anything he is.
As a consumer I have several companies that no matter what they are dead to me, Bioware and Blizzard are at the top of those lists. They have either attacked the consumer or shown they are just operating on greed and not passion for making video games. It shows what happens when you take all the good will built up over the years and just smash it into a million pieces.

Back then I was into multiplayer and competitive games. Around the time the battlepass became a thing I just started losing interest. I just don't like the idea of battlepasses. I also have no desire to play multiplayer these days. It's a trifecta of everything I don't want in a game. Guns for weapons, battlepass, and multiplayer. So I have no use for shooters. I'm into fantasy settings. Swords and magic. Single player RPGs, JRPGs, Metroidvanias, Platformers, SoulsLikes, etc... I'm sure there's some really good shooters. I heard Helldivers 2 was great. Ussually a game has to counter weight that taste preference by appealing in other ways. Thing is that AAA game dev struggles to produce enough quality and novelty to counter weight that preference these days, western devs are too up themselves to appeal with hot characters anymore, and the market is incredibly competitive lately with many other options.

As a consumer I have several companies that no matter what they are dead to me, Bioware and Blizzard are at the top of those lists. They have either attacked the consumer or shown they are just operating on greed and not passion for making video games. It shows what happens when you take all the good will built up over the years and just smash it into a million pieces.

I swear to god I never understood why some people were so much into retro games until 4 years ago I realized replaying Sleeping Dogs, The Witcher 3, L.A. Noir or Red Dead Redemption now feels amazing compared to the new AAA stuff.

Back then I was into multiplayer and competitive games. Around the time the battlepass became a thing I just started losing interest. I just don't like the idea of battlepasses. I also have no desire to play multiplayer these days. It's a trifecta of everything I don't want in a game. Guns for weapons, battlepass, and multiplayer. So I have no use for shooters.
I'm into fantasy settings. Swords and magic. Single player RPGs, JRPGs, Metroidvanias, Platformers, SoulsLikes, etc...
