While watching, I was desperate to know what you'd say about King's theme. You didn't disappoint. If you'd said it sucks, I would've freaked out like a 5 yrs old
For me, the reason I like some of the TTT robotic voice tracks is mostly dependent on what track it's used on. It adds a sort of repetition and catchiness to Yoshimitsu's theme (arguably the only stage where the character theme fits), Jin's arcade theme uses it a lot better than the PS2 version if you ask me and arguably serves as a nice 'center piece' to the track (idk how to word it), and the school stage's arcade version makes me wanna boogie when the "dance dance dance dance" repeats (Though again this is a song where the Arcade version is better IMO and uses the vocals better by not letting them get in the way as much), and I think that's most of what I have to say. Nothing else comes to mind
@@dinosulic101"No Eyes, No Ears, No Nose, No Mouth, No Body, No Mind, No Shape, No Shape". Way I understand it, a mantra is a repetition of words used to aid in meditation. Remember when Yoshimitsu says something during his winning intro? "Shiki zoku zeku"? That's also a mantra, and I believe it is part of the mantra we hear during Yoshi's theme in TTT1 EDIT: Small correction, Yoshi's win quote translates to "Form is emptiness, emptiness is form" which, while somewhat related to the lyrics, is moreso part of the Heart Sutra
Oh wow, thank you for the elaborate breakdown! I heard about Mantras in some HealthyGamerGG videos from Dr K., but I never really looked up the concept. Seems fitting for a character like Yoshimitsu for sure!
I love that the Tekken Tag theme is so highly acclaimed that it is basically the defacto theme of the franchise as a whole. It's been reused in multiple places and is THE theme for Tekken characters in Street Fighter X Tekken.
A small correction: I am fairly sure Marshall Law is not in Tag 1. This is Forrest. Marshall and Forrest were both playable in the same game only in Tag 2, I am fairly sure. Some disagreements (I think Yoshi's theme is amazing personally while not being too big a fan of Law's) but overall a great analysis all the same. Also, Keichii Okabe is notable for working his magic in a lot of other games, most famously the NieR games. EDIT: I actually really like the robot voice! Maybe it's nostalgia but there's something really early 2000s about it. I feel like if you were to remove from any theme it is in, you'd be left with a lot of dead air imo and less personality. As for the Spyro OST review, please YES. Love that soundtrack to hell and back. Speaking of loving to hell, can't wait for T4. The best ost imo in the franchise
Oh wow, three different Jack iterations but no Marshal, you‘re right. I screwed that one up lol Thanks, disagreements are guaranteed with videos like these, I‘m glad you enjoyed the video nonetheless. I‘m not too familiar with the NieR games, I‘ll have listen to some of their OSTs soon :)
The Robotic Voice just gives the game its own unique sound. Gives you something to sing instead of just listen to. Also the music is more attuned to the stages than the actual characters from this point on anyways.
It's 25 years of Tekken Tag Tournament (1999-2024). & such a great topic you've make video on. After 25 years This game still rocks. & my first ever Tekken also.
Dude you did Eddy's theme so dirty! The whole song is buildup, then the drums drop and leave you with a cool synth riff, and then the whole song climaxes in an incredible dance tune. Give it a listen again and have it in mind that the song is all buildup, and you'll enjoy it a lot more. I throw it on whenever I'm starting out a run and it helps me get pumped up and ready to crank out some miles!
*I love the robotic voice.* Although I was sitting here, arms crossed like Birdman, I respect your views and appreciate that you didn't shit on this soundtrack. Going back to the robotic voice, I enjoy it because it felt as though it was a complimentary element to the electronic music. The sound team wanted to go with a theme for this soundtrack, and they went all in on it .. that's something I can appreciate. I think what contributes to that is the air of mystery that surrounds many of the tracks. Nina, Law, and Yoshi's themes, for example, always evoke the question in my head of, "what the hell are we doing out here in this place and what are the stakes?" The suspense and mystery in the music allows me to wonder, something that I appreciate the development team for leaving open ended. With all of that being said, the robotic voice fits to me. You may not know what he is saying, but maybe that was intentional? Maybe the voice is uttering simple words .. but it sounds cool.
Thank you for your comment! Who would‘ve guessed how detailed og an opinion piece YoMama could write? Jk, I totally get what you mean, however the voice just doesn‘t evoke these emotions in me, but that‘s ok. I like the TTT OST, and it seems like you like it even more so that‘s great :)
@@dinosulic101i agree with OP here but the arcade variant of the ost does tone down the robotic voices in some tracks, it's quite fun to switch between the 2 versions
10:18 I asked AI about it and the answer was "The lyrics of the track "Jin Stage" from the Tekken Tag Tournament soundtrack, composed by Nobuyoshi Sano, consist of the following phrases repeated throughout the song: Playground Underground Ground to ground All round"
I love the opening track too. I have it set as the Fallen Destiny stage track in Tekken 8 through the jukebox mode. The way the wind blows the characters clothing and hair reminds me of Kazuya on the rooftop. I always thought 4:00 sounded like "let's start with me"
It's also worth mentioning that King's TTT theme samples Billy Cobham's Heather (in the exact same pitch that 93 til Infinity by Souls of Mischief sampled it). It's a very short snippet that's looped throughout the song and is panned far left, but I think it's a very interesting detail. Just a fun fact. 😃
I love the vocals, thats is the reason the soundtrack is unique, give the tracks character. 2000 was the epitome of futuristic and electronic sounds,TTT1 have a masterpiece soundtrack
I've heard the OST almost exclusively since the game's release, and while I do have my favorites from it, I think the Arcade soundtrack is a hidden gem with some themes. Ogre's theme in particular is an all-time favorite, it's just so interesting to go back and see the subtle differences between the two and enjoying a different side of that theme a la Tekken 2, unlike Tekken 3 where the arcade and OST themes are completely different. You've done yourself a bit of an injustice not listening to the arcade version of Tag 1, I'd say. Less robotic voice there BTW.
Hey, I really appreciate your input! I‘ll probably have to revisit the arcade version at some point, what you describe does seem intriguing. I intentionally skipped them in this video because I‘m trying to be consistent and efficient with my RUclips uploads, and covering both versions felt like it bloated my Tekken 3 video a bit. Maybe it‘ll warrant another video some time in the future :)
I've been waiting for this, and the next one is my favorite soundtrack (and overall game) in the entire series. Appreciate the Kunimitsu gameplay too! Also, the Arcade intro is indeed saying "The King of Iron Fist Tournament" throughout.
@dinosulic101 always! Even if I don't particiuarly agree with a song rating (I adore Hwoa, Jin, and Yoshi's themes here), I still very very much enjoy the breakdowns. One of my favorite series going on this site.
You was a tough critic on this. The TTT themes are amazing and fit the scenes, especially the minimal songs. They make perfect sense for its time. It was a good time to experiment in that time of evolution and they did an amazing job bringing a unique touch to the series.
For Jin's theme, I saw in a youtube comment that the commenter had a convo with Sanodg, the composer, and he said that the lyrics are: Playground Underground Ground to ground All round
Honestly, always thought the voice in the intro said, "Let's start with me" (because it showcased different characters, their overall asthetic and stuff)
24:38 yeah i really enjoy the vocoder and robotic voices in this OST, but funnily enough the xiayou stage is the the only one where i don’t care for it. for me it adds a textural quality that is so unique to this game and the time it was released. a specific example where i think it works the best is the first drop in eddy’s theme because where you would expect the melody it’s entirely texture and rhythm, and then the synth melody comes in the next loop. i don’t know for me it just sets the stage for a 1999/2000’s fist fight so well
For the opening song robot voice, I always heard it as “You’re stuck with me.” Which can apply to…practically anyone and everyone? Mishima’s with the Devil blood. Williams sisters? Jun with the wolf spirit in this game when she’s become Unknown? But that’s just me.
It helps to not be bothered by the lyrics since they kind of sound like the menu announcer singing every track, not to mention the rhythm and beats were so catchy.
I'm curious to find out if the DISCO strings in Xiaoyus theme are samples or where played in-house. Always wanted to use those phrases in some of my music.
I can't lie, I agree with you on the point about that electronic voice, it's just jarring to listen to at some points tbh, I don't mind it in Xiaoyu's theme because the track itself is carried by well, everything else, but in the other tracks it just adds nothing substantial, it's also why I love Ogre's theme the most in this game.
I have the Flac file of Staff Role on my phone, the fact they used it for the character solo fighting clips makes me believe they new it was a banger. P.S. Yoshimitsu's lyrics isca call back to buddist chants, "no eyes, No Ears" is a meditation chant to free yourself of physical form, transcendence i.e. Nirvana. or domething like that.
Awesome video again! I think I agree with almost everything you said; half the tracks are pretty lackluster, and the other half are pretty great. My faves have got to be Unknown's stage theme and Staff Roll
Yoshimitsu's arcade track is WAY better than the arranged version imo. Also, I think Orge's track is one of the best in all of Tekken. When I 1st herad it all those years ago, I was floored.
Great video 👍🏾. Personally i didn't mind the voices. But alot of that stems from the fun me and my brother had working out what they were saying. We agreed that the voice in Hwoarang's track (34 seconds in) said "joshua ran away" 😂
I like the robot voice but putting it in almost all the songs was a bit overkill Also, it would be interesting to see a crash twinsanity ost review, I don't think anyone has done that (that I know of)
I genuinely love the techno voice throughout the tracks of this OST. I, in general, love when a techno robotic sound is placed on vocals. To me, it kind of gives the vocals an element of simply being another one of the instruments playing instead of being vocals "in front" of the instruments. An example of when something like this takes place, to me, in a more popular song is Crew Love by The Weeknd, specifically the version without Drake's rapping, and more specifically, the second verse. The lyrics are vulgar so I don't care for the actual words being said, but specifically the sound of the techno autotuned vocals with the other instruments in the song is such an amazing sound to me. Tekken Tag 1, while obviously much more techno and upbeat than the Weeknd's dark R&B sound, captures the same essence as what the Weeknd in his song captures. I love that sound, so that's why I love that robotic voice in TTT's OST. But I can objectively see how someone can find it annoying; I can objectively see why someone may find techno in general annoying lol Also, I would highly recommend comparing the chorus of Law's theme with the chorus of Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon theme. I genuinely believe the composer for TTT directly used Enter the Dragon's theme as inspiration for Law's theme.
so the reason the songs don't really fit the character names that much is because the stages in tag 1 are variations of the stages in tekken 3, usually the same stage but either a slightly different location or time etc. I don't think they intended to have the names relate to the songs in tag 1 but just kept the names internally, re-used code etc. Tigers ending in T3 is on Lings stage so I assume they were more thinking of him for the tag 1 song etc,
Dino! Thanks for the video! Quick question, are you a Tekken player yourself? Like do you engage with the community or are you more of a Tekken enjoyer so to say? Keep up the good work as always 🙏
Hi, thank you for the nice comment! :) I don‘t really play currently. I played very casually during Tekken 7, but I followed the competitive scene very closely, especially pre Covid. I went to two TWT finals, both in Amsterdam, so I was quite into the esports side of things. During some periods I‘d watch a tournament almost every weekend lol
Seems like you don't like the atmospheric stuff as much as the melodic stuff so I'm guessing your not gonna like Tekken 4, as for me I love this stuff, one of my favourite Tekken OST's
Lovely video. I really enjoy yoshi's ost too, especially for the initial part. If I'm not wrong it's a real buddhist prayer, and I find amazing the idea of combining it with electronic music. But yeah, the other tracks you mentioned are way better and I totally agree. Also, if you like japanese cinema there's a scene in Ichi the Killer when the protagonist is playing TTT and you can hear this track. Just a curious detail of an amazing movie I 100% recommend.
Found out I’m a month late cause I wasn’t subscribed yet 😮 well that was fixed. l love the work with Tekken and fear and hunger. Can’t wait to see More, Tekken 3 and tag were a huge part of my childhood
Jeez, first Bryan now Jin? Almost lost hope until you said you liked Orge.😂 One of the best tracks in the game in my opinion along with Jin of course. Childhood favorites.
Now that you're going to rate the OST for Tekken 4 soon, just know not only did you earn a subscriber, but I got a gut feeling Tekken 4 will be your favorite OST of all time. It's literally flawless & has a massive "Digital Apocalypse" vibe to it
Ahh it seems you‘ve also seen „The Atmosphere of Tekken 4“ recently, that was a great video! Yeah, I‘m already working on the script and so far, it seems pretty convincing!
TEKKEN TAG 1 OST IS THE G.O.A.T!!! Damn, sorry you didn’t like it as much. I think for me this one is my favorite because I spent the most time with this game. I love most of the tracks and with “Staff Roll” and “Ogre” being my top two soundtracks for the entire series it’s a no brainer for me to love TTT1’s soundtrack the best. Also it’s funny you mentioned this, made me have to see for myself. But my top 5 tracks from this game DO NOT have the robot voices in them. Maybe they are more off put subconsciously to me, idk😂 “Unknown” is an only top 5 contender of mine from the game with the robot voices.
IDK why but I'm a huge fan of the robotic voice. Make brain feel good I guess. Also relating King's track to T7 was great. Genuinely can't argue with that take lmao.

The robotic voice are a style element. It's purposely made to not be understood clearly. It has no meaning. It's just there to sound cool and futuristic Remember that this game came out at the verge of a new millenium with a brend new high tech console. So the trend was to make everything look and feel futuristic. I think there is also a video on youtube calling it the "digital apocalypse" or "The Atmosphere of Tekken 4" from Thegamingbritshow
Yeah, I've seen his video on Tekken 4's atmosphere, I even mention this in my Tekken 4 OST analysis. I definitely understand why they went for this general style, I just can't really vibe with it.
Love these videos, even though i disagree with you on this one. It was 1999 and everyone was hyped for the millenium and the future still looked bright. The robo voices and futuristic elements reflect that i think. On the other hand, while i like the Ogre track i think it absolutely doesn't fit him, it suits more to someone like Julia or Jun maybe? In the end, the overall soundtrack may not suit your taste, which is fine. It's very electronic and futuristic, especially compared to 3's and 4's.
I know what you mean, but truth be told, I have never checked out the entire soundtrack of T7 or T8, so it will be interesting to compare them. I absolutely hate T8s intro song though, I might even make a video on it haha
Took a while, but here we are with the Tekken Tag OST review. Tekken 4 will follow soon, so stay tuned!

But I can objectively see how someone can find it annoying; I can objectively see why someone may find techno in general annoying lol
Also, I would highly recommend comparing the chorus of Law's theme with the chorus of Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon theme. I genuinely believe the composer for TTT directly used Enter the Dragon's theme as inspiration for Law's theme.
I recommend you doing a video about cruelty squad's ost i think it makes you feel what the game really wants really trippy
so the reason the songs don't really fit the character names that much is because the stages in tag 1 are variations of the stages in tekken 3, usually the same stage but either a slightly different location or time etc.
I don‘t really play currently.
Dude as a new Tekken fan these vids are great ❤
Lovely video.
So what are they saying in the school stage music?
Jeez, first Bryan now Jin? Almost lost hope until you said you liked Orge.😂 One of the best tracks in the game in my opinion along with Jin of course. Childhood favorites.
Ogre as one of the best I agree, but certainly not Jin haha
Yes. Next question.
Tekken tag ost console is soo underrated.
Sounds like it's says it starts with me
You could be right, I‘ll have to listen back again tomorrow 🤔
Now that you're going to rate the OST for Tekken 4 soon, just know not only did you earn a subscriber, but I got a gut feeling Tekken 4 will be your favorite OST of all time. It's literally flawless & has a massive "Digital Apocalypse" vibe to it
Ahh it seems you‘ve also seen „The Atmosphere of Tekken 4“ recently, that was a great video!
Yeah, I‘m already working on the script and so far, it seems pretty convincing!
Yes next question
Tekken 4 - Is The Music Good? ;)
The real debate
Tekken Tag Tournament OST
Arcade ver. vs Console ver.
Lei theme arcade ver. is my fav
#15 Xiaoyu is very good. Cheerful track.I have it on the day light Time Square on Tekken 8
I like the voice man.
Wow you didn't like Heihachi's theme, I really like that one.
IDK why but I'm a huge fan of the robotic voice. Make brain feel good I guess. Also relating King's track to T7 was great. Genuinely can't argue with that take lmao.
name entry >>>>>>
Tekken 8 soundtrack is excellent. 6 too
Good video. May i ask if you are by any chance bosnian? 😀
Thanks! Yes, I spent part of my childhood in Bihac before moving back to Austria :)
Are you also from the Balkans?
@@dinosulic101 ah, wow, that's amazing :D I am also from Bosnia (zeljezno polje) but live in Switzerland. It's actually really cool that people from my country enjoy Tekken music as I do :D I am a video game music DJ and have made a few Tekken DJ mixes on my YT channel. I enjoy your view on the TT1 music. For me its the best soundtrack next to TT2 and T4 :D consider me a new subscriber of yours :)
Thanks man, I really appreciate that!
The robotic voice are a style element. It's purposely made to not be understood clearly. It has no meaning. It's just there to sound cool and futuristic
Remember that this game came out at the verge of a new millenium with a brend new high tech console.
What took you so long?
Cool
Love these videos, even though i disagree with you on this one. It was 1999 and everyone was hyped for the millenium and the future still looked bright. The robo voices and futuristic elements reflect that i think. On the other hand, while i like the Ogre track i think it absolutely doesn't fit him, it suits more to someone like Julia or Jun maybe? In the end, the overall soundtrack may not suit your taste, which is fine. It's very electronic and futuristic, especially compared to 3's and 4's.
The TTT arcade OST is better IMO, and I'm sad you won't be covering it. Xiaoyu's theme is great there!
Now do the arcade version lol
*sus chords?* 😳
Yoshimitsu ost arcade version is better imo
Spoiler alert, yes
tekken has a an amazing soundtrack until 6, tekken 7 and 8 has such a bad soundtrack,
I know what you mean, but truth be told, I have never checked out the entire soundtrack of T7 or T8, so it will be interesting to compare them. I absolutely hate T8s intro song though, I might even make a video on it haha
TTT2 had very good ost (excluding the originals and remixes bc I'm talking about original new material)
