The PS2 version does have differences to the arcade gameplay wise. Some combos do/don't work between versions and Armor King's infinite back grab for time outs was removed for the console.
In addition to A.King's "handcuffs" being removed, Kunimitsu's Kunai had it's length shortened, making db2 not hit grounded opponents anymore and making her ffn2 worse in the PS2 version.
The outfit rant is not irrelevant. It's incredibly important when you look at the ridiculous custom outfits these days.. and yes people really wore cool stuff like that in the late 90s

Yep I also liked how you pointed out the grass texture on Eddy's stage because yes can tell you in real time that was actually a big deal at that time lol!
Tekken tag was one my first ps2 games back in 2002. Watching this video really brought back the nostalgia that I hold dear to my heart. playing against my older brothers at the time was some of the best memories of my life.
Some of my fondest memories as an 11 year old was having enough quarters to go a few rounds in TTT at the movie theater. This game scratched an itch that no other fighter could at the time.
Everyone theme in this game was lit and it’s back when Jin was likeable and the combo moves and the rivalry’s who would fight after you won or hit continue 😂

I would have tekken tag tournament 1 as my favorite tekken out of all tekkens the way kunimitsu and Bruce and tiger looks amazing and tekken 5 & 4 afterward then tekken 3
i just love the vibe of old tekken like t3, tag 1 and t4. it didnt go too over the top and didnt try too hard to be cool like how it seems in tekken 5 onwards. there was a unique kind of soul that is just so comfy looking back on it and i wish it was present in the newer games but nah

Oh shit I’m rambling, thank you for watching!
@@JuiceboxJoints dont worry about the rambling, i feel the exact same way as you! watching this video and seeing tag 1 made me feel a bit more iffy about tekken 7 despite it's solid gameplay just because the vibe feels more... esports-y (with the HYPE EDM music and FLAMING MATCH INTROES and DRAMATIC CRAZY LAVA STAGES) rather than something that's more defined as you said, which sadly feels less mature

@JuiceboxJoints - 👊😎.... love Tekken 4! Played a bootleg of the import, hardcore until the U.S. version finally dropped.... used to have to wait like a year for a U.S. fighter to make it over from Japan! That T4 Force mode + the main game's wall mechanics both need to make a return in T8, but I'm not holding my breath. T8 looks like a mixed bag, so far. I've played every Tekken in arcades, up until T5... after that, newer cabs were rare in my area. I did see T6 in an arcade here once. Didn't play it, tho. Too bad more younger dudes aren't as open-minded about classic fighters as you are.... props on having some taste yo 👍!
As others have said, it's cool to see a youngin who can see that the earlier Tekkens were way cooler in vibe and aesthetic, music, etc. I'm 34, been playing since Tekken 2. Back in the 90s, I viewed Tekken as the coolest thing. Shit started going downhill with Tekken 5 for me, though...that Sparking! song was the beginning of the end.

I'm honestly curious how old you are bro. I was like, 5 when Tag came out. I played the arcade version a few times as a kid and was fucking trash. I still am but I was back then too. Still wonder if I should cop a copy on ebay.
Yo I just barley turned 20. That’s awesome you got to experience the arcade version! It’s alright man, I’m super ass at fighting games in general, but I still think there’s fun to be had casually, and other aspects of the game to be appreciated. It’s up to you. 👍🏼
I remember hiring the game at blockbuster and at the time I hadn’t got a ps2 yet, I still had a ps1 nonetheless eventually getting the game it was so good just after TEKKEN 3, and coming into the age of PS2. It’s a refined version of all the TEKKEN games that come out, I need to get it on PS3 ASAP and play the HD version I haven’t played since the 2000s, with my cousins for days it was great and the classic unlocking characters 🤌🏽🤌🏽
Mind Boggle Arcade was where i spent A LOT of quarters crowding that Tag 1 machine regularly with 15 other heads....surrounding us was Initial D 2, Pump It Up Premier 3, SF3 3rd Strike, San Francisco Rush 2049 p2p, CVS2, MVC2 2 cabinets, SC1, Silent Scope, Tekken 4, KOF 97, SamSho 3, SF2CE.....waaaay better hang out spot than this online shit

Let's keep it real. TTT is better than ANY of the new Tekkens. Tekken is been trash post T5. All the marketing, forced hype and tourneys in the world not going to change that. BTW none of the current tekken music is on the level of Tekken 2,3 or TTT.
One of my most played PS2 games of all time. I love Tekken Tag Tournament. I played the arcade version religiously at my local Peter Piper Pizza back in the early 2000s. My cousin had a PS2 he had this game, MGS2, and Twisted Metal Black. Good times.
I played the arcade version alot, as well 👍. I played it at a Kroger by my cousin, at a 2 story mall, & even at a shitty goth club! I rented a Japanese PS2 and Tekken Tag from a somewhat local import shop so I could play this game early 👊. Not sure if people are aware, but the U.S. version got some AA applied to fix the nasty jaggies on characters in the Japanese version! Little shit like that really impressed me, that the devs would take the time to FURTHER enhance the game! Been playin Tekken since T2 in arcades. I couldn't get into T1... it was trash. King is my main.... always has been. I play a shitload of characters, tho. As weaksauce as Tekken 7 is, it still ended up alot better than Soul Calibur 6.
good video but damn, you failed to mention the iconic intro. i used to watch it over and over, and it prompted my obsession with the game. very stylish shit.
I actually had written an entire section dedicated to it, but I cut it since I felt like the video was getting way too long. Looking back, I should’ve at least mentioned it since I agree, that shit is iconic and absolutely amazing. I’m sorry to disappoint, but I’m glad you enjoyed the rest of the video.
This was extremely well written! For somebody who wasn't even there you describe the game like it just came out. Except without the whining. Does this old (ish) man's heart good. 😌
I was 13 when I played TTT on the PS2 and let me tell you, this game was the PlayStation's way of saying welcome to the next gen of consoles! I absolutely loved this game. I used to play with my older brother and his friends who are now in their 50s and we still reminisce about it. Thank you for this video its so touching to see a the young blood appreciate this game. And this video gets an instant like because of the Julia appreciation. Coming from a Julia main, you are a man of culture. Keep these videos coming you got something special. Also yes people did dress like king( no jaguar mask) and eddy in the 90s!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts man, I appreciate it! I see you with the Yoshimitsu Tekken 4 pfp! Oh and when I did that corny joke “idk if people wore shit like this in the 90’s”, I meant Yoshi’s funky suit lmaoo
Fun lookback at a childhood favorite lol, this game is definitely among the elites when it comes to 3D fighters, and still a blast to play (and cheese) today. Also, sorry to hear about the scrapped video, I could tell you were very passionate about putting it together, but I definitely understand where you were coming from when it came to giving it a rest, there's no shame in it! Looking forward to future vids, dawg!!
My bro thank you for watching! I’m glad you agree this game has aged extremely well. Oh and your help with that video was extremely appreciated. Would love to collab on anything else in the future! 👊🏼

Damn i love ttt!!!
Ok this nigga funny
I'm honestly curious how old you are bro. I was like, 5 when Tag came out. I played the arcade version a few times as a kid and was fucking trash. I still am but I was back then too. Still wonder if I should cop a copy on ebay.
Yo I just barley turned 20. That’s awesome you got to experience the arcade version!
It’s alright man, I’m super ass at fighting games in general, but I still think there’s fun to be had casually, and other aspects of the game to be appreciated.
It’s up to you. 👍🏼
Liked and Subcribed great video
Appreciate it!
Keep it up compa
algorithm been blessing lately
🙏🏼
At 24:22, you said *bleep* Tekken what now? 😮😂
Ridn round wit a badass bch, she a dime
We ain't got time
Great vid! I might be wrong but I think Anna is better than Nina in 5 dr specifically
I believe you’re right!
LOVE THIS VIDEO!
Hell yea! You’ll be surprised at how good it feels to play all these years later.
Jun at a Waffle House, quite the mood.
Yupp
honestly to me Tekken 1-5 and Tag 1&2 are amazing and better then Tekken 6,7 and 8
Mind Boggle Arcade was where i spent A LOT of quarters crowding that Tag 1 machine regularly with 15 other heads....surrounding us was Initial D 2, Pump It Up Premier 3, SF3 3rd Strike, San Francisco Rush 2049 p2p, CVS2, MVC2 2 cabinets, SC1, Silent Scope, Tekken 4, KOF 97, SamSho 3, SF2CE.....waaaay better hang out spot than this online shit
Damnnn that sounds heavenly bruh
@@JuiceboxJoints it WAS!!!! 2003 Eastland Mall Charlotte, NC prime time!!! I met this fine ass Dominican chick there....she played Tag 1....her tag was Jin and Jun....she was nasty....drove a white Acura Integra 5spd....last spoken to her in 2004....Arcade was shutdown that same year.....if i can find some video of that arcade i will post a link here....JWong came thru for a tournament there earlier in that year.....

Shout outs to Kenbou one of STL/Japan's finest!
Fantastic player
Combos are not easier by any means and yes throes are better in this game. They nerfed it for you kids. I would love to see the OGs in the US vs Peru.
Whatever you say old man
@@JuiceboxJoints 😆
Let's keep it real. TTT is better than ANY of the new Tekkens. Tekken is been trash post T5. All the marketing, forced hype and tourneys in the world not going to change that. BTW none of the current tekken music is on the level of Tekken 2,3 or TTT.
One of my most played PS2 games of all time. I love Tekken Tag Tournament. I played the arcade version religiously at my local Peter Piper Pizza back in the early 2000s. My cousin had a PS2 he had this game, MGS2, and Twisted Metal Black. Good times.
I’m jealous you got to experience the actual arcade hardware, and yea the PS2 is still the goat console 23 years later 😭
Thank you for sharing bro!
I was the same man my laundry place had an arcade of this and i played it all the time
Peter Piper Pizza… wow I haven’t heard that in a long long time lol
good video but damn, you failed to mention the iconic intro. i used to watch it over and over, and it prompted my obsession with the game. very stylish shit.
@JuiceboxJoints The video was awesome. I wasn't disappointed just being picky. Much love!
This was extremely well written! For somebody who wasn't even there you describe the game like it just came out. Except without the whining. Does this old (ish) man's heart good. 😌
Thank you very much sir! I’m happy I was able to do it justice 🙏🏼
Yeah that's all you can say but you clearly not saying anything on the skill, music and the presentation to play, because you can't.
@@Peter-the-Angry Bruh, who Infinite juggled you? Don't hate, just celebrate.
Haven't played none of the TTTs, so this vid was very informative and entertaining to me. Keep it up, would love to see more essays from you, big guy
It makes me very happy to hear that…thank you!
