    Gryffindor- Bravery, chivalry, determination

Just something most people not tend to see: Dumbledore never intended to keep everybody away from the last room and the mirror. If he wanted to hide and protect the stone, why tell every teacher in the castle, that he want to do this? Why tell every student to not go in the one specific corridor? Basically everybody knows, that there is something going on. Pretty dumb of Dumbledore isn't it? It isn't. His plan from the beginning was to lure Voldemort to the stone and to let him think he is safe by creating "obstacles" that could easily be solved by first year students, so he would go to the end. The real trap was the mirror Erised. Harry wasn't really able to free himself from its influence without Dumbledores help, trapped in his own wishes. It works like a highly addictive drug. Quirrel, who wanted the stone more than anything else, would have stayed in front of it for hours, so all Dumbledore would have to do is to come and pick him and Voldemort up. Which never happened, because Harry messed everything up 😅

I always thought Dumbledore set everything up to test Harry since he knows Harry's going to be a key player. After all, he gave Harry the cloak, conveniently sent Hagrid to pick up the stone on the same day he's getting Harry so Harry would know something was being hidden, he explained the mirror, etc. The mirror was just a fail-safe in case Harry failed.

    • @sebastianressel8007
      @sebastianressel8007 9 месяцев назад +8

@@ntertanedangel Might have been both. Since Dumbledore pretty much knows everything that's going on at Hogwarts, he probably could have stopped Harry if he really just wanted to catch Voldemort, so maybe he tried to kill two birds with one stone. Either he would catch Voldemort or train Harry, so however it would have ended, it would have been still a win for Dumbledore, I guess. 😅

Don't know if anyone else has commented this but in Quidditch, the Golden Snitch isnt an automatic win. It award's 150 points to the team of the seeker that catches it and ends the game.
Lets say Gryffindor has 200 points and Slytherin has 400 points, even if the Gryffindor seeker catches the Snitch they would still lose because they would only be at 350 points. It's really all about strategy, knowing when to catch the snitch and making sure your team covers the 150 point gap.
So technically a Quidditch game can go on for a while if the seekers cannot find/catch the snitch.

Cat woman (Minerva) is head of Griffindor house and was a very good Quidich player. So that's why she bought him the broom (she was fed up with Slytherin winning every year). Harry used an ancient magic (unintentionally) against Quirrel of which you will learn more about in future films. The ancient magic is also used to protect not only Harry but also the Dursleys which is why Harry has to return there for at least 2 weeks per year. Petunia (Harry's mum's sister) knows this and the family are trapped into housing Harry for fear Voldemort will attack them. The spell will break once Harry turns 17 (wizarding aldulthood).

Great reaction! You'll be interested to know that Nicholas Flamel is the only real life, historical person mentioned in the Harry Potter stories. He was believed to have discovered the sorcerer's stone back in the Middle Ages as he became very rich practically overnight. His house still stands in Paris and has since been turned into a restaurant. I had lunch there on my last trip to Paris. Because of the popularity of the books and movies, they have created a Harry Potter menu for children.

Let's just say Snape is... a complicated gentleman. And honestly, because of his portrayal by the late great Alan Rickman (Hans Gruber from Die Hard), Snape is my favorite character. Flawed, misunderstood, and his slow, clear enunciation of every perfect pronunciation of every word is just the right mix for a great character.

I wouldn't say he's misunderstood, he already finished the series so I can say this. Snape treated the kids horribly, so them thinking he was a bad guy is not them misunderstanding him, he genuinely hated some of the kids, specially neville, harry and hermione, the only reason he helped with harry was because of his obsession with his mom, he could've used that obsession he had and treated him kindly, but he chose not to.

    Few things you should know:
You misunderstood Oliver Wood. Catching the snitch most often means winning the game, because it's 150 points and it ends the game. However, if the other team is leading by more than 150 when the snitch is caught, they win.
I expect you'll soon get used to this world and understand some of the laws of magic. For now just remember that there are such laws. It's not like anything is possible. For instance when Dumbledore makes all that food appear, he doesn't create it out of nothing, it was prepared elsewhere and he just summoned it. One of the laws is that you can't create food out of nothing. You can transfigure it, multiply it if you already have some though.
Think of magic as a sort of parallel physics with its own rules, laws, causes and consequences.
Also: character, intentions, mental focus are just as important in magic as knowledge and abilities.
You might have noticed that this school is downright unsafe and dangerous. And that is just well because magic means extra power, that comes with extra responsibilities, those in turn need extra competences which cannot be gained through the usual means. You cannot gain knowledge and control of this power in a completely safe setting.
That being said, certain safety measures are kept in place. Students can get hurt, even severely, but the school does its best to make sure that they are never in any life threatening danger. Unless some very special circumstances require that.
You will have many, many questions as you go on, some things will seem to be just random, but I assure you: nothing is really random. Everything has a reason even if you don't understand it at the moment.

There were many schools like this especially in England. with a points system & everything. it encouraged and inspired teamwork and self reflection for anything you do may reflect badly on everyone else which inspires self reflection and awareness of others around you and how you impact the lives around you. ♥

The first years are actually the only ones who take the boats _because_ it makes for a more grand and enchanting introduction to the castle, seeing the way the lights all reflect off the water is meant to be a once-in-a-lifetime sort of experience. Plus it takes them a bit longer to get there meaning everything is set up in time for them to be sorted as soon as they arrive. After this year they get to the castle by different means.
Keep in mind, what's magical to an 11 year old is different from what someone your age would find magical. The way these characters experience and interpret the world around them changes based on their age; this fact is much more exemplified in the books, but it's still apparent in the movies, making for increasingly mature and complex stories as time goes on, while the earlier ones tend to feel more like storybook fantasies.

    Fun book facts:
The cat lady teacher is kinda like a house matron for Gryffindoors. She is super strict and never has her hair down but she is quite... by her own words... quiddich hooligan. Your comment regarding her secret bets etc were actually not far off. No bets were mentioned in the books of course but she has slid a comment how she likes the trophy on her shelf.
The original title of the book was philosopher stone instead of sorcerer's stone. It is a title refering to actual legendary item that was said to create gold and immortality (hence is macguffin). When the book was about to be released in America, the publisher panicked that kids would not know what a philosopher is so they changed the title.
It's funny that you mentioned how quick Hermione's sorting was considering that hers took longer than Harry's at least in the book. The hat sees the values of the person wearing it and that's how sorting is done. Harry's was tricky but Hermione was a stall for her great apprechiation for knowledge (Very Ravenclaw trait) and her bravery to step in when things are wrong (Very Gryffindoor trait). In the end the hat placed her in Gryffindoor by margin of a hair. As much as she desires knowledge, she can be tiny bit rigid in her believes and get stuck in details rather than embrasing all the knowledge for the sake of knowledge. This will come back once we meet the prominent Ravenclaw student. 😊
Centaurs look like beasts in the series however they are the most softspoken intellectuels in the series. Their favorite passtime is analysing stars and predicting the future events. They believe to carry above human intelligence and certainly pride. They have laws against attacking young humans but they never agreed on not attacking adults. When Voldemort was in power, he didn't give two pennies on rights of the animal like creatures and they also faced hardships (less systematicly compared to humans but still hardships). They took his defeat as a sigh of relief for sure. The forrest creatures generally respect and trust Hagrid and Dumbledore so they can enter the forrest no problem.

Hi, I loved your reaction and I'm glad to see someone else doing the Potter franchise! I hope you do the rest. I've just a few things to add and clarify that you mentioned during your commentary.
Muggles (not really a slur) don't see regular magic unless it directly affects them. It's like our brains refuse to accept it as real, so we don't register it when it happens. That's why they don't see kids running through the barrier at platform 9 ¾.
The first years go on boats to Hogwarts because it affords the most spectacular first view of the castle. Years 2-7 arrive in old-style carriages. Remember that the wizarding world is set in OUR world during present times. They have to fit their lifestyle into/around ours to avoid detection and can't just be blasting magic off willy nilly, hence taking a train to school and a shopping centre sequestered into the heart of London etc. The Hogwarts Express is also a wizarding tradition even if you live near Hogwarts you'd still travel to London to take the train to school.
The sorting hat can read minds. It can get a good feel for your personality. It rarely, if ever, makes mistakes. But it will take your own choice into consideration if it sees the house you want's values inside you. Harry was teetering between Gryffindor and Slytherin values in the hat's estimation, so it took Harry's choice into account.
The staircases change to lead to different areas of the castle. And because it looks badass and is great for plot.
Harry isn't far behind the other kids in terms of magic. They're not allowed a wand until aged 11 so they're not really learning any magic as it's incredibly difficult and advanced to do magic without one. There's also tons of magical kids with muggle parents that didn't even know they were wizards until they got their letters on their 11th birthday. (muggle-borns).
Harry wouldn't have blown Ollivander’s (wand shop owner) head off. Harry (or any other child) wouldn't be capable of a spell that powerful at their age. Also, any damage from trying out wands, Ollivander can just repair with a single wave of his own wand.
In Quidditch, catching the snitch isn't an automatic win. It just ends the game and awards 150 points to that Seeker's team, which means the team that catches the snitch usually wins, though not always.
Centaurs always know so much shit. Mythologically, they're divinators and astrologers. They can see future events and portents by reading the stars. It's the same in the wizarding world. Centaurs play a far bigger role in the books.
Voldemort was possessing Quirrell like a sort of parasite. His body was obliterated when he attacked Harry as a baby and he hasn't had the strength to regenerate himself. That's why he wanted the stone and why he was drinking unicorn blood. To sustain his spirit.
Dumbledore DID sense there was something suspicious about Quirrell. He asked Snape to keep an eye on him. But while Dumbledore is arguably the most powerful wizard alive, Voldemort isn't too far behind and could conceal himself easily enough. Hard to spot someone being possessed without any outward signs.
Neville got the points for standing up to Harry etc and trying to stop them from getting Gryffindor into more trouble. Dumbledore made sure that he gave Neville the points that would win Gryffindor the house cup as a confidence booster to a lad that always doubts himself.
Not all Slytherins are bad. The movie portrays them all that way because they needed somewhere for the ‘heroes’ to focus their anger and for the antagonists to be grouped together. Ron's “there isn't a witch or wizard who went bad who wasn't in Slytherin” isn't entirely true.
Wizardingworld.com is the website with the official house sorting quiz. Go with your heart during the questions and don't overthink it.
I know others have said this, but these movies get a lot darker as the kids age. The second is darker than the first but they start to really turn dark at the 3rd movie which is a lot of people's favourite. Mine included.
Unfortunately, they missed out loads of stuff in the movies that was in the books. It leads to unanswered questions and plot holes where none exist. But the fandom is awesome and they'll clue you in when it happens, so be sure to scan the comments!
Just a suggestion: You may want to put on subtitles. As much as we love your commentary, there's lots of important information you yourself will miss while commentating and it might get confusing if you don't.
Looking forward to continuing this amazing journey with you! I've subbed for it! 😊

    • @babyeolsoo
      @babyeolsoo 8 месяцев назад

@@user-el3gn5yl2w they can if wizards aren't careful enough. Theres this ebook by JK Rowling called "Hogwarts: An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide" in Pottermore that explains how a lot of things work in the Wizarding World and how she came up with it when writing the books. About this particular question you asked she wrote:
'On the whole, this has worked well, although there have been minor problems over the ensuing years, such as witches and wizards who have dropped suitcases full of biting spellbooks or newt spleens all over the polished station floor, or else disappeared through the solid barrier a little too loudly. There are usually a number of plain-clothed Ministry of Magic employees on hand to deal with any inconvenient Muggle memories that may need altering at the start and end of each Hogwarts term.'
So basically muggles can happen to see it but there's magical security there to fix the situation.

    To answer your question about Quidditch;
You don't necessarily win when you catch the snitch. Yes, the snitch is 150 points and the game does end when the snitch is caught. But the team that catches the snitch can loose the game if the opposing team had already gained far more points prior to the snitch being caught. So it's important to score as many points as possible with the Quaffle and hoops before any seeker of any team catches the snitch causing the game to end.
BTW, did you know that people became such a massive fan of the fictional sport of Quidditch that college students made it into a real world international sport that are played in real colleges all over the world. Players play with broomstick between their legs and the snitch is a person dressed in gold with a handkerchief tucked into his or her's belt running around all over the place. The seeker has to catch the person playing as the snitch by grabbing onto the handkerchief and pulling it off the snitch's body. You can do a RUclips search and view a few matches played in different countries. I have seen 2 or 3 Quidditch matches in person back in the day. Tons of fun.
If you ever want to know how Quidditch is played and it's fictional history the author of Harry Potter, JK Rowling also wrote other books for charities. One of them is called Quidditch Through the Ages and it is written as if it were one of Harry Potter's text books.

Clarification on Quidditch scoring, in case it hasn't been fully made clear. Catching the snitch does not mean your team automatically wins the team, just that your team gets an automatic 150 points, and the game is over. It is possible to get the snitch and still lose if the opposing team is up by 160 points.

The golden snitch is worth 150 points, not necessarily an instant victory - so if a team was ahead by 160 points and the other team caught the snitch, the team who caught the snitch would still lose. They technically explain this, but Wood saying "You catch this, and we win" is an understandably confusing line.

With Quidditch: When the golden snitch is caught, the team gets 150 points and the game is over. Very likely to win with the snitch but not a given. In the 4th movie (without giving spoilers) the quidditch game in the beginning is won by a team that didn't catch the snitch because they scored so many points before it was caught.

I'm not doing too good at the moment. I miss my grandma so much. She passed away October 4th of this year. And everything feels like a void of loss. Watching some of my favorite reactors like you, help me get through the day and help tolerate the pain.

Hogwarts is the oldest school that's in Ireland,/Scotland. doubled as a fortress long ago. Dating back to it’s founding around 990 A.D. by four of the greatest wizards and witches of the age: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin. They each represented an aspect of personality that they wanted to bring out in new students.
That’s just the simplified answer ❤

It’ll be a nice change of pace not needing to brace for jumpscares (excerpt that yelling book in the restricted section in this movie. Had me shook for a second lol)
I’m happy I can document my first time watching this franchise! Maybe I can show my kids one day 😂 Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for watching my friend! Another great marathon awaits!

Catching the snitch just ends the game and you points however the team with the most points wins. So you can actually catch the snitch and still lose.

The movies are great but I recommend reading the books also when you can because they're just as good and there's some extra stuff in them that aren't in the movies.

I have considered this! I haven’t read a book In years and I think it would be a great gateway into other books and stories as well! Plus I think I’d understand more of the lore/story that way too!

You could also consider the audiobooks. There's a british version done by Stephen Fry and the American one is by Jim Dale I believe. The audiobooks have their own dedicated fanbase by now! The books will open up your eyes so much to the very detailed world Jo Rowling created.

Some of the characters are very different in the movies than how they are in the books. It's not important to know who is different in what way...
But I have to say the whole Weasley family is much less vibrant than their book counterparts. There will be some complaining about some of them in the movies, I get it.
Just know in your heart that they are amazingly done in source material. Much love for the Weasley family.

the first 2 movies are kid friendly but the intro and the movies get more and more darker., Also there's the prequels Fantastic Beast movies when you get done with these movies :)

jumping off the horse during the game would've counted as an extra move, voiding the move he just made. so he couldnt jump off.

That does make sense. I just didn’t want my guy Ron to get stabbed by the Queen! That’s for clearing that up and for watching along with me! I know I’ll have so many more questions so it feels good knowing I have HP experts watching along too

Very pleased you chose to take this journey and I'm honored to take it with you. FYI.....The third movie gets dark and more grown up. Also, Everything in Harry Potter is symbolism and foreshadowing. And what you see is not always the truth.

      110%! 🐍 😎
By the way, don't take those online tests. They are not reliable. Made by imperfect people, often with an agenda. Just look up what the different houses believe in and decide for yourself.
By the way: Not all Slytherin are evil and some evil people come from other houses, so don't feel like you have to virtue signal and choose a "safe" house you don't belong to.
Go in Peace and Walk with God. 😎 👍
