No wonder Voldemort changed his name… Tom doesn’t sound like an all powerful wizard hahaha! Thanks for watching along and all you Harry Potter experts, feel free to hit me with some extra knowledge but please no spoilers! Prisoner of Azkaban reaction is here: ruclips.net/video/xJM89X2Ca44/видео.html
The name change was because his muggle father's name was Tom Riddle as well. Plus Tom is just too "ordinary" abd "common" for Voldemort. The Marvolo part of his name was the name of his witch mother's father. He didn't mind shedding that either as he despised his mother as well because he considered her weak.
@@toodlescaeand that mother was cold and unkind to the witch wife. The love potion of amortentia was used long enough to have her think he might be fine to let him sober up gently after a while because it was to be a happy family and he coldly abused and abandoned her. This is why he hates muggles. His father was a jerk and her parents were not top kind either, especially her father.
mot any thing to ruin but actually RON was the one that knew about Mudblood and you may have hated the scene of the slugs, but if you noticed which many dont Ron sacrifced Slugs to defend Hermione, in the books he was much braver in the books like the chess. Harry asks Ron if should turn back knowing his biggest fear is spiders due to his brothers turning his teddybear into a spider big one. But Ron said looking out of the woods thinking of Hermione said lets do it. Meaning he was facing his deepest fears for Hermione, same as saved her from a Troll knowing he was the one that screwed up and took slugs to defend her honor things to think about since the movies dont do Ron right. ALso Hermione is NOT THAT smart. She knows books but fully brave and accuracy is her flaw and stuff. That why Harry is beyond brave he fears very little. Ron is the loyal of the 3 he riskes his life for his friends die to protect them so u need all 3. But book Ron is most peoples fav. as you know them. 1st Ron 3rd is Mr Weasley 4th Fred and George 7th Dumbledore 8 Hagrid 10th Lee Jordan the one that does the matches he is actually pretty interesting with twins. But Ron is castrated during movies. So dont judge Ron. Books do him better plus the writer was a fan of Hermione so she gets favored as Ron looks like the idiot. Which he is not.
Fun fact: The "I didn't know you could read" line was improvised. Tom Felton (Malfoy) forgot what he was supposed to say, and after a milisecond of panic, he came up with that line, and they decided to keep it in. And at the end, when everyone is cheering for Hagrid's return, Crabbe's actor gets up to clap, too. That was unscripted. He forgot he WASN'T supposed to cheer, and Felton pulled him back down. You can even see Felton look to the side to see whether the filming crew caught the slip-up. Again, they decided to keep it in because it fit with Malfoy's personality.
Also Harry's reply to Lucius at the end wasn't scripted, when he says: "I guess Mr Potter will always be around to save the day" and he says "Don't worry- I will be."
One of the biggest things between the books and movies is how they dumbed down Ron in the movies. In the book, he explains about the mud-bloods and pure bloods,
Ron has lot of information to share as well as his brave and loyal moments, support and encouragement for his friends and also a few feats later when using some spells. At least in books, in movies lot of his good things are given to Hermione or someone else.
I personnally think it depends on scenes...the whole thing explained in the movie is much heartwarming between Hermione & Hagrid and it doesn't mean Ron is dumb at all....
Ron was kinda forced to open his mother's Howler. If the one who receives it does not open it in time, the Howler explodes. And the longer it takes to open, the louder the voice is.
To answer your question about why they don't replace Ron's wand: 1. The Weasleys just had to spend quite a bit of money not only for 3 sets of expensive Lockhart books (Harry gave Ginny the ones Lockhart gave him and bought a set himself) but for all of Ginny's school supplies. Most were 2nd hand but her wand was new and tgey're not cheap. 2. Ron was already in trouble about the flying car. He wasn't about to add to it by telling them he broke his hand-me-down wand (it used to be his brother Charlie's) and needed them to spend money on a new wand. 3. The school has funds for students who need help purchasing supplies but the Weasleys have too much pride to ask for help. That's why Harry has to find sneaky ways like giving Ginny the set of Lockhart books to help them out. Oh..and wands are almost impossible to repair. The screenwriter made Hermione the perfect little heroine by totally downgrading Ron's character and even Harry to a certain extent. The trio works so well because they each have their strengths and weaknesses that the others compensate for. I'll explain more in the next one. Fun facts: that scene in Dumbledore's office between Harry and Lucius Malfoy was totally ad lib. Malfoy's actor decided to try to trip up Daniel by throwing out the line "Let's hope Mr. Potter will always be around to save the day." Didn't work because Daniel immediately responded "Don't worry. I will be". Kicking Dobby was also ad libbed. When he kicked out the director asked him what he was doing. The actor told him he sas kicking Dobby down the step because that's something Mr. Malfoy would do.
The movies did Ron sooo dirty. Many lines in the movie, such as Hagrid comforting Hermione, were Ron's in the books. Since Harry and Hermione weren't raised in the Wizarding World, it fell upon Ron to teach them (and the readers) everything about the Wizarding World. Hell, in the books, Hermione wasn't that upset over being called a Mudblood, because she didn't know what it meant, while Ron was outraged. Oh, and this "movie does Ron dirty" trend continues well over the next movies. The movies Hermione a little too perfect.
In the book, Harry initially had all the power over the Dursleys, making gibberish words to make it sound he was using magic, using them to threaten Dudley when he tried to bully Harry. However, when Dobby appeared and used magic, the Ministry sent a letter, assuming that it was Harry who used magic since they detected the use of magic at the house, and with that, the Dursleys realized Harry couldn't use magic away from Hogwarts until he turns 17. But the movie not only didn't cover that, they skipped the Dursleys learning of this.
That never made sense to me. Petunia already knew underage wizards aren’t allowed to do magic outside of school. Lily was her sister & they spent the summers together when they were teens & I seriously doubt Petunia wasn’t told by Lily that she couldn’t do magic at home.
@ resathe6760. It’s not a rule. It’s Wizarding law. The Decree for the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery passed in 1875 so it was in place when Lily was at Hogwarts. And, yes, Petunia not showing much knowledge of the magical world despite having a sister who was a witch is most likely a plot hole. Either that or she’s just being her nasty self by letting Harry struggle on his own instead of assisting him whenever she could.
I heard you ask for how paintings in harry potter work and came straight here to tell you. A painting is painted like a normal painting, but then get enchantments put on them so they can move around and talk. Their personality is based on what the painter knew of that person. Their power is based on the power of the wizard painted, not the painter. The paintings in the headmasters office are all previous headmasters. They are painted while that person is still alive and is kept in a safe and gets taught by the real person how to be themselves. In that way, the headmaster paintings are really wise, and can discuss things with the current headmaster, but also others, although if a student is in there they act like they are asleep.
Also, the wizards painted in Hogwarts can visit each other's portraits within the castle, or if they have a painting of themselves elsewhere they can go there too.
Amazing!! Thank you so much for the detailed explanation! That is very interesting. I love that the paintings are essentially a council of headmasters. It kinda reminds me of Avatar The Last Airbender where the Avatar can talk to previous ones and ask advice haha! You’re amazing for dropping that knowledge and I owe you a crips high five 🖐️
I feel like if a new viewer finds this reaction before watching the first one, they will think I’m crazy 😂😂😂 I might have to come up with a mix of the names? Prof. McGonaCat 👀
Arthur Weasley and Lucius Malfoy engaged in a rough fistfight in the bookshop, bumping into bookshelves and was showered in falling books. Just a casual disagreement. Funnily enough, a fistfight in the wizarding community is looked down on as barbaric. Only the common muggles engage in fistfights.
"It is not our abilities that show what we truly are. It is our choices." Fun Fact: Shirley Henderson is the oldest actress (age thirty-seven) to portray a Hogwarts student. What Script Fact: Tom Felton forgot his line when Draco saw Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) disguised as Goyle (Josh Herdman), so "I didn't know you could read." was improvised. Final Bow Fact: The final Harry Potter film to feature Richard Harris as Hogwarts Headmaster Professor Albus Dumbledore. Harris died of Hodgkin's disease a few weeks before this movie's American release. Slytherin Shenanigans Fact: It was Jason Isaacs' idea for Lucius Malfoy to have long, blond hair, as well as carry a walking stick inside of which he would conceal his wand. He grew attached to the stick and once tried to take it off the set before he was caught. RIP Millie Fact: During production, Emma Watson frequently brought her pet hamster Millie on set. Unfortunately, Millie passed away shortly after shooting began. The set department created a specially-made hamster coffin, complete with velvet lining and the name "Millie" engraved on the top. Watson said: "I don't think a hamster has ever had a better send-off."
My main man Gator! That fact about Emma’s hamster getting a send off gives me the vibe that they were like a family on set. They must’ve had a ton of fun making these movies and I hope they think back on it fondly! I’m sure Emma was so sad 💔
Well you gotta watch the 20 years reunion film after all the movies mate! And take the house test to see where you are placed, make your wand and also there is another test which makes more sense after the third movie but I wont spoil it.@@TheDorkSideTV
A moment that sticks out to me as a Draco fan is during the Harry/Draco duel scene, when Harry hits Draco with the spell that knocks him down, Draco seems to look up at Snape like a kid who did something wrong and looks at their parents to see if they’re angry. Snape then snatched him up and shoved him back into the duel without checking on him or anything. I think moments like these explain why he is the way he is.
Additionally, because Cole didn't watch the extended version of this movie, he missed the opportunity to see how Lucius treats Draco at Borgins and Burkes shop in Knockturn Alley, that would have given him an idea how Draco is treated and at the same time think of what it must be like having Lucius as a father. In the books, we just see a spoiled brat in the book, we know his parents love him in the books too. Much like his classmates Draco's character will mature too.
@@janethernandez724 Wait, where do I find this extended version? Like, for some reason, it sounds vaguely familiar, so I’m wondering if I’ve seen it in the video game on the PS2.
House-elfs are actually much more powerful than Wizards. They can use magic, even in places where magic is uncapable of being used, such as enchanted rooms where wizards's magic abilities are blocked. However, house-elfs are classified as inferior beings, and because of that, despite being more powerful, they are treated as servants, and have been for generations. So, although they are stronger, because of pure social standings, they are treated as slaves.
I wouldn't say, that they are necessaryly all more powerful than wizards (even tho a lot of them are). They just have their own kind of magic, which is why they are not restricted in areas where wizards are. It's a bit like a sound-barrier against bats. They just can't get through, while you would walk along all fine, not even noticing it's there. But you are completely right, house-elfs are treated like sh**, since they are classified as inferior. Maybe because the wizarding world fears the magic of house-elfs.
I wouldn't say that house elves are more powerful than wizards, although of course there may be some, but for example the most powerful wizards such as Dumbledore, Voldemort or even Snape or McGonagall, I think that they would easily defeat any house elf. The thing is that magic comes naturally to house elves, they don't have to learn it (because there is no magic school for elves) and they don't need a wand for spells. Of course, the most powerful wizards can also perform simple spells without a wand, but for these stronger spells they need a wand it is necessary for them. Many barriers that limit people do not apply to elves, e.g. in this case, Dobby teleported in Hogwarts even though Hogwarts has a barrier through which it is impossible to teleport in the castle. That's why house elves can be comparable to and sometimes even stronger than wizards, but the most powerful wizards are certainly more powerful than any house elves. I wonder how powerful elves would be if they were allowed to use wands that enhance magical power, perhaps then they could be more powerful than wizards. Magical law, however, forbids all non-human magical beings from having wands (probably because people were afraid of magical creatures capable of magic), so creatures such as house elves, goblins and centaurs cannot have wands. And while, for example, goblins in the past often rebelled against this law, it is in the nature of house elves to be subservient to a given magical family. Dobby is an exception here and he opposed the family he served. For the most part, however, the essence of house elves' lives is to serve wizards, and there have been cases where free house elves have become depressed and lost the meaning of life when they have no wizarding family to serve. So the best solution for the house elves is not to free them but to simply let them serve but at the same time treat them well and with care.
House-elves are not more powerful than wizards, but they do have powers that other creatures don't. Like Apperating in places where wizards can't (you can't Apperate on Hogwarts grounds, but house-elves can), but they're generally unable to use their powers to make their own lives easier. Apparently most of them like serving wizards and don't mind being glorified slaves. A plot point you'll never see in the movies (it got left out) is Hermione trying to create a foundation to free as many house-elves as possible because of them being "slave labour", but the house-elves at Hogwarts are heavily insulted when she tries to talk them into it, treating her as someone seriously unstable and dangerous.
A caged owl, a caged Harry and caged Cornish pixies. All fly amuck when set free at last. Pretty much the theme of this story. Even the caged in his book Tom Riddle went wild. 😉 BTW, Harry got the Dursley house room upgrade because when Harry got his Hogwarts letter last year they saw it was addressed as Harry Potter the cupboard under the stairs. The Dursleys saw that someone knows about the abuse and that they are obviously being watched somehow. So Harry only got the room due to the Dursleys' fears of what would happen if they continued to lock Harry under the stairs. I can only imagine Professor McGonagall addressing that envelope with a justified spiteful smirk. LOL!😉😄 🏰🧙♀️📝✉️🤨😏🦉
I was waiting for this one. Chamber of Secrets is my favorite potter movie. I like the mystery aspect and when rewatching it you notice the little details. Watching Harry kick Draco's ass in quidditch never gets old. Same with Snape and Lockhart. The new lore that is added with this movie/book is amazing like learning about the Founders of Hogwarts. Learning who Voldemort really is always gives me chills even though I've known forever. Sadly this is the last time we see Richard Harris playing Dumbledore. He got sick and sadly passed away before they started the 3 movie. The line, "There's no Hogwarts without you Hagrid" hits different now that Hagrid's actor has passed away.
So, wizards have a huge superiority complex. Especially the pure bloods. There are nonhuman magic users like the goblins and house elves. There are even laws against them possessing wands. Fun fact: wizards can perform magic without wands. Wands just focus it a bit more with more ease. That’s why Harry was able to make the glass disappear last movie. After this movie, it’s gonna start be teen angsty. Can’t wait for you to meet the dementors. Oooooooo
I feel that that is a question we don’t want the answer to 😂😂😂 but I can just imagine traveling to Wal-mart and a huge burst of green flame erupts at the entrance where the Wal-mart greeter is lol
The wizarding gene seems to be a dominant one. So wizard parents (both) will almost surely have wizard/witch children. If one parent is a wizard/witch, the children will also most likely have magic. Muggle borns are obviously born from Muggle parents, but the theory is that there was some sort of magical ancestry a few generations back. There are also the Squibs, they are born from magical parents, but although they are aware of the wizarding world, they can see and sense things that regular Muggles cannot, they themselves don't have any powers. Argus Filch, the caretaker is a Squib for example. That kinda explains why he's so bitter all the time, why he seems to be afraid of the students. Further improvised moments (besides Tom Felton's "I didn't know you could read"): "Let us hope that Mr. Potter will always be around to save the day" "Don't worry, I will be" Both lines were improvised. Jason Isaacs felt that he can't just leave Dumbledore's office without saying anything. When Dan answered without skipping a beat, Isaacs was beyond impressed. This is not a child, this is a 13 year old actor - he thought to himself. Also, Lucius kicking down Dobby on the stairs. The crew thought that he slipped, because Dobby was CGI so there was nothing there.
Just so ya know, mudblood is basically the wizarding equivalent of the n word and is VERY rude, like in the books the captain of the Slytherin quidditch team had to stop Fred and George jumping on malfoy. The word originates from purebloods like Salazar that think muggles and muggle-borns are dirty scum, hence the name.
Oh no, the Japanese golfer joke is quite funny - and dirty. It always gets me that they snuck that in, and that Uncle Vernon was telling the joke to his boss... in front of his child. Then I remember, it's England! No matter how posh one may speak, there's some naughtiness underneath. I've heard that even the Queen, had a sense of humor that could be described as dirty, and she definitely used four-letter words that you wouldn't expect from her.
Ayeee I appreciate that! I love watching movies and letting it take me on a roller coaster of emotions! I like to think of the videos as a documentation of my first experiences watching movies. One day I can show my kids my first time watching Harry Potter (albeit when they’re older lol) Thanks for leaving a great comment and for watching along with me! Happy to be in your top 5 ❤️🙏
I’m hoping he fills the role well then because I loved the actor that played Dumbledore in these first 2! He’s probably my favorite character so far! Thanks for the heads up ❤️🙏
You can't blame the Womping Willow Tree for getting upset and attacking Harry, Ron and the flying car. If a massive football line backer suddenly rammed right into you and refused to get off, you too would be bashing his head and fighting to get his freaking large body off of yours. LOL! That poor tree was just minding his own business and wham! Big massive hunk of metal missiled into it's body from nowhere and just stayed there. If someone did that to me I too would wack the living heck out of whatever hit me. LOL! 🌳🚙🥊🪄😉😄
honestly it's a good point as to why myrtle didnt say something about the basalisk coming out of the girl's bathroom lol. like she must've seen it happen at least once?
Some information along the way. 1. The Malfoys and the Weasleys don't get along because they are both very old Wizarding families, but they have opposite beliefs on blood purity. The Weasleys are more accepting of muggles and muggleborn wizards, and Arthur is quite fond of muggle technology, while the Malfoys currently support pure wizard rule. The irony is that the Malfoys came to England in 1066 from France in the service of muggle king William the Conqueror, gaining wealth and a huge manor as a result, and one of the Malfoy ancestors even tried to marry Queen Elizabeth 1st. They are huge hypocrites. 2. Wizard wands are very difficult to mend once they are broken. It's basically easier to buy a new one. 3. Muggleborns are wizards born from muggle parents. They are the result of genetics, as they usually have wizard ancestry somewhere in the past, but is completely forgotten, and the magical gene is simply resurfacing. There are also what are known as Squibs, who are nonmagical people born from magical parents. They face a lot of prejudice from pureblood wizards, as they are seen as magical failures, and they are usually exiled to the muggle world, often marrying muggles and having the magical gene resurfacing generations later. The caretaker Mr. Filch is a Squib. 4. House Elves actually are VERY magical and have powers on par with wizards. Their magic is however bound to their masters, and they often only use it when they are told to or it is of use to their work. And as far as elf slavery, it is facilitated by the very nature of House Elves, as they are biologically inclined to work hard and offer services to others, but many wizards take advantage of this and use the very magic of the elves to keep them in slavery. 5. Sherbert Lemon is a British candy, like a lemon drop. Dumbledore likes to use candy names as his door passwords. 6. Portraits in the Wizarding World are basically imitations of real life wizards, and are given life by the wizards who paint them. The portraits are however bound to the perception of the painter of the subject, so the accuracy of the imitation depends on how much the painter knows the subject. 7. At the time the Chamber was first opened 50 years ago, Dumbledore was only the Transfiguration teacher. The Headmaster at the time was a man named Armando Dippet, and was a very ineffectual head of Hogwarts, falling completely for Riddle's charm. 8. Spiders are terrified of the Basilisk because it kills with its gaze, and spiders have EIGHT eyes. Also poor Ron is arachnophobic because on of the Weasley twins turned his teddy bear into a spider when he was very little. 9. Ghosts are often unhelpful in the wizarding world because they have huge hangups from life. Myrtle is constantly fixated on being bullied in school and Nearly Headless Nick is brooding over his own botched execution. 10. Voldemort is totally obsessed with people not knowing his name is Tom. He hates anything that does not make him exceptional. He has an extreme narcissistic obsession with being the most exceptional and intelligent person on the planet.
I appreciate the detailed comment as always, Robert!! I can feel the passion in your explanation so it makes me happy that you’re willing to take the time to make a great comment like this! I hope to be a Harry Potter (movie) expert by the end of this and I’ll have you to thank for assisting me in that 🙌 Also, it makes perfect sense that the spiders having 8 eyes would make them a perfect victim of the basilisk
The Sleeping Portraits: A magical portrait of each Headmaster or Headmistress of Hogwarts is automatically added to the gallery in the Headmaster’s office upon their death. They always seem to be asleep but they’re actually usually awake and they’re very nosy! They provide support to the current Headmaster or Headmistress. This is really useful because they can visit any of their other magic portraits, so they can pass messages and even spy for the Headmaster.
@12:25 "I thought Dumbledore was all seeing!" I don't know if Dumbledore kept THAT close of an eye on Harry, but if he was watching at that moment I half expect Dumbledore to be laughing his ass off. @30:33 "I hate this guy!" As a Game of Thrones fan, you have no idea. Fun reaction, glad you're enjoying these films!
The thing about the Harry Potter books is that the author, JK Rowling originally wrote the series for adults. It was the book publishers that decided to advertise it as children's books. If you read between the lines of the story you will see it is a satire. First, one has to understand that you the reader are looking at the story through Harry Potter's point of view as he grows up throughout the years at Hogwarts. In the first book and movie Harry is 11 years old so you see his world from his 11 year old mindset and maturity. But as he grows up and begins to understand things more and more the story gets darker and less innocent as he matures with age. The reason I call the books a satire is that many of the stories deals with racism of a different kind and political corruption. Dobby might be a house elf but nevertheless he is a slave just the same. There might not be any racism in the wizarding world against people of color but there is racism against wizards who do not come from pure magical families. Harry doesn't see the horrible similarities between the wizarding world and the muggle world at this point because he is only 12 years old during The Chamber of Secrets. To a certain extent he is still an innocent little boy and is not mature enough to comprehend it all to the fullest extent. 🏰🧙♂️🧙🏻♀️🧒🪄⚡️📚📽🎞🖤
Less that she wrote it for adults, than she imagined it growing with the characters. Had she had her way, there would have eventually been light swearing and sexual innuendo in the last couple of books, but the publishers pushed back hard on it.
@@robertgronewold3326 You can find all the missing swearing and private activities (if you know what I mean) in JK Rowling's book "Casual Vacancy". Even though it's a book about a bunch of teens it is definitely NOT a book for kids or even teens in my opinion. 😶🙊🙈 Still a good novel in my opinion as well. They made it into a TV mini series a while back. 📖👍
@@robertgronewold3326 There were already sexual innuendos in the last few books. The swear words were not written out (until the final battle where Molly calls Bellatrix a bitch), but the characters were described to be swearing plenty of times. The books would mostly say something like “Harry swore" and "Ron told Malfoy to do something to himself that would make Mrs. Weasley mad".
@@flyingstapler1241 Yes, that is how JKR wrote out the swearing. Movie Ron who is constantly saying things like 'bloody hell' and 'piss off' was how she intended a lot of the dialog, because that was how the friend who inspired Ron spoke. She was constricted by the 'children's book' label for the entirety of the series, because before that you didn't have many books series where the characters matured as the books went along. She very much wanted the teenagers to be more like teenagers. It was never meant to be R rated, but certainly PG-13 by book 5. And also, just to add, I know all this because JKR has filmed interviews where she discusses this. Available right on RUclips.
I absolutely adore this movie, it’s nostalgic as hell and a fun adventure! Prisoner of Azkaban is next, and that’s when things start to darken, can’t wait!!
I am excited to see what a darker tone Harry Potter movie looks like! And after hearing Hagrid be so grateful for leaving Azkaban, I assume it’ll be an interesting story as well! Thanks for watching along with me as always Reese ❤️🙏
One of the reasons the Mafloy hate the Weasley so much is because they’re both « pure Blood » families of wizard. In each country there is families of wizards but the numbers of pure blood tend to decrease with the Time. In Great Britain there is something like 13 pur blood families remaining ( among them you know the Potter the Malfoy the Longbottom and the Weasley). In Lucius eye’s Arthur Weasley and his love for non-wizards is a shame for the Wizaring world
Actually there are at least 28 pureblood families, known as the Sacred 28, but there are actually more than that. The Potters and the Smiths were both excluded from the list because they were not 'pureblood' enough for the author of it, having pro-muggle views.
@@RiseeRee Yep, three wizarding wars and blood purity politics did a number on them. Plus geez, what is with all the purebloods and having only one kid.
Since you haven't talked about it, I assume you haven't seen the post credit scene of this movie. It's the only post credit scene in any of the Harry Potter movies, so at least you don't have to be paranoid that you missed anything from this point on. But I wanted to quickly comment on it. The scene shows that the fraud Gilderoy Lockhart has gone insane after he's lost his memory. Since he won't appear in any of the other movies, let me quickly talk about what happened to him. Spoiler free of course. So after he lost his memory he's been accepted into a special hospital that deals with magical injuries and other related cases. What's interesting is that Lockhart was never really exposed for being a fraud to the public, but he would also never fully recover ever again. In canon Lockhart is permanently stuck in this hospital and continuously gets fan mail from fans wishing him to recover, which he never does obviously.
NOOOO!!! There’s a freaking post credit scene!? I had no idea so now I need to watch it 😂 I love that it is a follow up on Lockhart’s mind wipe because he was really a shitty person. Taking all the credit for previous wizard’s greatness and profiting off it just doesn’t feel right. I’m glad he grabbed Ron’s wand! Thanks for letting me know and leaving a great comment 🪄🧙🏻♂️⚡️
Fun tidbit; the voice for Aragog was Julian Glover; better known as General Veers in Empire Strikes Back, and Walter Donovan in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
My absolute favorite movie in the entire series. That ending is, as you said, so heartwarming; in fact I think it might be the most heartwarming ending of any of the movies moving forward. Rest in POWER to Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid and Richard Harris as original Dumbledore; it's not Hogwarts without them 😥. The next ones after this kind of lose that wholesome feeling as Harry enters his teen years; everything's darker and the pacing is more frenetic.
The "I didn't know you could read" from Draco is probably my favourite line from all of the movies ;D;D;D Tom Felton improvised it which makes it even better
Hermione's parents might be muggles, but somewhere in her genetic line there is a SQUIB. On one side, or perhaps even both sides, of her family, and it could go back hundreds of years. A squib is sorta the opposite of a muggle, they're born to a magical family... but have no magical power themselves. Typically, they're raised to live amongst muggles so that they'll have a normal muggle life, including marrying a muggle. So, if someone has a squib ancestor... then that reasons they must also have a magical ancestor. That would explain why someone is magical, even if their parents aren't. An example of a squib in the series is the cantankerous caretaker, Mr. Filch.
Genetics like that usually resurface in real life because of there being a genetic marker from both parents, so likely both of Hermione's parents had squib ancestors.
Come to think of it, that book took that plot point out completely, making the Basilisk's first victim seem random. They also didn't mention every other character who got Petrified was muggleborn. No mention of that with Colin or Justin.
@@strawberrysoulforever8336 One of the tiny failings in the movie translations. Colin's dad was a milkman, Justin was almost sent to Eton instead of Hogwarts.
All the portraits in dumbledores office are previous headmasters, they sleep when theres company in the room and awaken when the current headmaster is alone (they tend to just pretend to sleep, he talks to the previous headmaster from hogwarts legacy video game too)
I wish I had a council of artwork to help make life decisions 😂 thanks for the explanation!! And that makes me interested in the Harry Potter video game too then! I didn’t realize it expanded on the lore like that!
@TheDorkSideTV they honestly did a pretty good job of expanding on the lore in the game, but jk rowling wasn't actually involved in any of it so it's not necessarily canon but they did use a headmaster that was from the books and they created plenty of ancestors to characters we know from the books and movies. Professor weasley was pretty great and I loved the kid of who is an ancestor of voldemort.
They did a great job with this movie. There's a lot of stuff that can't get included for time and pacing reasons though, and one thing that always stood out in the book was the Dursley's treatment of Harry after the cake thing. He was locked in his room for a long time, was only let out twice a day to use the bathroom, and was fed through a catflap his uncle installed in the door. It doesn't really NEED to be included, but it went a long way to show just how terribly they treated him.
Guess I’ll watch this during my work meeting, priorities 🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽 Great content Cole! I’m excited to see your reaction to Order of the Phoenix (that’s the 5th one), it’s my favorite, but prisoner of Azkaban and deathly hallows part 1 and 2 are SO good! Definitely good moments in each movie!
😂😂😂 I hope I can help keep that work meeting entertaining lol! That made my day! And thanks for the love ❤️🙏 I can’t wait to see how great the future movies are! I’ll keep this comment in my notes so I know which ones to get extra excited about 👀
Great video Cole! This movie has some hilarious scenes and your reactions were comical lol! The next movie is personal favorite! It carries a darker tone that I love and a intriguing story! This next movie is also when Micheal Gambon takes over as dumbledore due to the passing of Richard Harris! I hope you enjoy it!
I hear this next one is a lot of people’s favorite so I can’t wait! And Rest in Peace to Richard, forever immortalized in this beloved franchise I appreciate you as always Darren! I hope I can make the HP 3 movie that much more entertaining for you my friend 🫡
Absolutely LOVED this reaction. The Basilisk and Tom ‘made up middle name’ Riddle have always stuck with me. Good on you for catching the stuff with Myrtle before it was revealed. And I can’t wait to see your reaction to Prisoner of Azkaban, which is my Favorite Harry Potter Movie and has the best Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher.
the third movie is arguably the best one in the entire franchise (apart from the last 2 because, come on) but the third movie is what got me really hooked on Harry Potter. it's so freaking interesting and expands the lore so much
Another fun reaction! You are right, without Hermoine there wouldn't be a series. The tone does get progressively darker throughout the series, which you can probably already tell with this one.
@@LunalulyluRon provides so much knowledge and even the intricacies of the world, the politics, everything. And even how to traverse these realms. We all know how they gave all his lines to Hermione too 😂
Not sure if anyone has told you this but just in case: The movies never cover the concept of wand allegiance in regards to Ron. Considering he is kid number 6 of 7, all of his belongings are hand me downs including his pet and his wand. It is heavily debated whether this is the reason he isn’t great at magic or if it’s a matter of confidence. In the beginning of the third book, he gets a brand new wand of his own from Ollivander’s. Just a little tidbit.
Those whispers were saying some wild things 😂 if they were whispering something nice like “I like your shirt” or something then I could let me guard down lol! Thanks for the love and for watching along with me ❤️🙏 I’m happy my idiocy can be entertaining 😂
In the final scene where they're in the office with Ron and Harry when they're painting that back wall where the door is if you look very closely at one of the portraits it Gandalf the great from Lord of the Rings which makes him in the movies a former Headmaster of Hogwarts. In the books no this is only strictly in the movie. The portraits how those work now is when you become Headmaster the portrait is made and it spends its time with you learning your ways your speech Etc. When you pass away it is hung up in the office and you are to assist Headmasters that come after you in any way you can
@@joosthuibregtse8143 Which is why it's so stupid that some wizards kick out their squib family members, because if they just marry a wizard, the kids will likely be magical again.
Love that you got such a kick out of Voldemort’s real name being Tom. It definitely was something that the book emphasized that he hated. He considered it too ordinary and a name he shared with too many others. It is definitely one of the reasons Dumbledore always called him Tom, which became something Harry did as well. Your reactions are so enjoyable, as you always seem to pick up on and appreciate key concepts of the stories.
Glad to see you back Cole! I'm really glad you're enjoying the series so far, it's an absolute joy watching you react and embrace it. Look forward to the rest, buckle up, it gets more intense!
"Why wouldn't you not open that somewhere more private?!" Because Howlers are on a timer, sort of. The minute you touch them they activate. If you open them, they do what you saw and destroy themselves. If not, they start to smoke in warning until they essentially explode.
Interesting fact - Harrys ancestor invented the Skelegrow Potion that they used to grow harrys bones back. That is one of the reasons Harry's as rich as he is.
@@yehudisfriedman8459 No, not the polyjuice, the skelegrow. (I'm pretty sure that is correct) but yes. The hair potion is also correct. I might have to check up on my fact tho. But I thought it's both skelegrow and hair potion, I'll double check my facts and get back with another comment
"Linfred of Stinchcombe, an ancestor of the Potter family, was known for having created many medicinal potions, one of which would be used as the basis for Skele-Gro" Skele-Gro being the potion that regrew harrys bones after Lockhart magiced them away. When Linfred died, his fortune went to his seven children. And over the generations, they added to their family wealth. "Harry's paternal grandfather, Fleamont Potter, was the most successful when it came to turning mounds of gold into mountains. According to Rowling's post, he "took the family gold and quadrupled it" by inventing Sleekeazy's Hair Potion" So there you go. My fact was mostly correct, tho his ancestor didn't invent Skele-Gro, his potion was used as the basis to actually invent it. (Might not be surprising to find that I am a Ravenclaw xD)
Another fun fact. People said "he enjoyed pottering about in his garden," about Linfred, and that is why he was given the surname of Potter, and there you have the origins of Harrys last name.
Hi, it's me again, about to hit you up with some more Potter lore that you were curious about during this one. (Don't worry, this fandom is great for not giving spoilers. Usually.) House-elf magic is just as, if not more powerful than a wizard's magic. However, they're enslaved and must do their master's bidding. If anything goes against their master's bidding, or contradictory to their orders or master's loyalties, they forcibly punish themselves. The reasons why the Malfoy family are so rude to the Weasleys are numerous. A couple I can give you without spoilers are; One, the Malfoys are pureblood wizards (with supposedly no muggle or half-blood heritage whatsoever.). They look down on anyone with anything less than pureblood as second class citizens and muggles as more like animals. The Weasleys themselves are pure bloods, but they don't give a shit about blood status and associate with just about anyone, including muggles. Other pureblood families therefore refer to the Weasleys as ‘blood traitors’. The Weasleys are also notoriously poor, while the Malfoys are rich and look down on everyone. Yes, wizards can be born from muggle parents. They're called muggle-borns. The vulgar term is ‘mudblood’ which is the wizard equivalent of a racist slur. Muggle-borns were likely to have had some magical blood somewhere in their distant ancestry. Wizards can also produce a non-magical child. These are called Squibs and are looked on as outcasts and shameful by many in wizarding society. They usually go and live amongst muggles and marry them too, so are probably the ancestors of many muggle-born wizards as they still carry a dormant magical gene. Mr Filch the caretaker is a squib. He chose to remain amongst wizardkind and took a job at Hogwarts. But that's why he's always angry and bitter. He's jealous of all the kids being able to do magic. Wands are almost impossible to repair. Think of them as an almost sentient magical object. Once the wood and core is damaged, the chances of it ever working again are slim. Only a rare and extraordinary event could fix one. So Ron was pretty much screwed. Harry never tells adults anything as he's never had an adult in his life that he could trust or depend on, or one that was particularly nice to him, so he's naturally untrusting of adults and prefers to go things alone. Which is frustrating, because there are so many teachers at Hogwarts who would have his back. The password for Dumbledore's office is Sherbet Lemon because Dumbledore is obsessed with muggle sweets. We have some candy here in the UK called Sherbet Lemons lol The pictures/portraits are usually painted while the subject is still alive. They are literally imbued with their subjects' memories and learn their mannerisms. They are often taught to be a perfect copy of the subject by the subject themselves. The more time a person spends with their portrait, the more accurate it is. A portrait can learn new information after their subject has died. But it can never grow in intelligence beyond what the subject had when they died. Those in the headmaster's office are all previous headmasters and headmistresses of Hogwarts. They are there to help and advise the current head. In some instances a subject dies before a portrait can be completed or even started. In this instance, the likeness will be as close as possible, but the portrait will only possess the traits and mannerisms of the subject that were known to the artist during the time of its creation and none of the subject's actual memories. Hagrid has a thing for dangerous creatures if you haven't noticed lol. He sees them as sweet or misunderstood and doesn't seem to understand why everyone else is terrified. He's so in denial when it comes to these animals that he would never have thought in a million years Aragog would hurt Harry and Ron lol Tom (lol fk u Voldy) wasn't going to take over Ginny’s body. He was stealing her life force so the memory of his 16 year old self that was preserved in the diary could become real. We Slytherins aren't all bad. Don't tar us all with Tom or the movies’ brush! Lol Dumbledore said a phoenix can carry immensely heavy loads. So he's a super bird. Totally handy. But they're very rare and extremely independent. You can't just buy one as a pet. They kind of choose you. Dumbledore was special to have gained Fawkes' loyalty. Great reaction, by the way. I'm totally loving how much fun you're having with this! The next movie is my absolute favourite and I'm sure you'll love it too. They start getting darker from here on in, so I'm looking forward to watching your take on it! Kudos!
The Dursley's don't want Harry to go back to school because they don't want him to learn more magic and become more dangerous. The wand Ron uses in the first and second movies belonged to his older brother Charlie, he got a hand-me-down because wands are really expensive. The tape he used to fix the wand was spell-o-tape, which had some magic in it to try and help fix it but wands are complicated artifacts and very difficult to repair. He gets a new one before the next movie. Gryffindor's mascot is a Lion, Slytherin's a snake, Hufflepuff's a badger, and Ravenclaw an eagle. Also, the third movie is my favorite; I'm excited to watch your review!
@@TheDorkSideTV i actually fell asleep before ron and harry even got to hogwarts lol, but i ended up finishing it today. you're definitely my fav movie reactor
Tom was drawing Ginnys life force which was made possible by her writing into the diary and bearing her soul to Tom. When she dies he can break free from the confines of the diary and truly be alive and not just a memory magically bound to his diary.
I have to say, you delivered once again Cole! Was super busy these past few days but managed to get through the reaction, and I loved it just as much as the first one! I think my favorite part for me is your enthusiasm, you just have an infectious energy that makes it so fun to rewatch these movies with you. Can’t wait for movie 3!
Thank you so much! If I can enhance these movies even a little bit to make the rewatch for y’all more fun, I am doing my job!! Thanks for the love and taking the time to write that out! It means a lot and I’m happy I can be *infectious* 🧙🏻♂️🪄
When Harry goes back to thw Dursley’s every summer, their memories are modified so they usually dont remember any mishaps that happened earlier in the year.
I actually never loved Chamber of Secrets all that much...the later ones were just a lot more compelling as the kids and storylines got older and more mature. But I can't deny that the standing ovation scene at the end with John Williams' score is one of the purest and most heartwarming things I've ever seen in a movie. Columbus did a great job setting the foundation and tone.
They were starving harry so bad in this movie/ On the book they mention how he had to share a can of cold soup with hedwig, that's all he would have to eat in a day sometimes, it made me teary eye, he would pick out the vegetables from the soup and give it to him. Idk if you will read the books so I won't say much, but its so intresting to see everything left out the movies.
The innocent childhood whimsy stops here, from the third movie onward it gets darker & darker. I wonder if anyone had mention this fan theory but Harry, Ron & Hermione are the archtypical Slytherin, Hufflepuff & Ravenclaw but they got put into Gryffindor instead because they're brave enough to ask for it.
I love how invested and accustomed/acclimated you already are to the HP universe already hahaha. You're already thinking according to the logic of the series.
I watched this movie in cinema when I was a kid with my uncle because my mom who read the books refused to bring me. I got so scared by the spiders, Snape and the Basilik that my uncle understood why... Now, he's gone and this movie is my favorite memory of him.
36:17: Myrtle haunts the bathroom because it is where she was murdered. She was the witch killed 50 years ago the last time the Chamber of Secrets was opened. In the later movies, you find out the exact reason why, but that's the reason she "lives" there.
Hagrid bike isn't actually his, it belongs to someone you meet in the next movie, but that's a huge detail the movies left out it never mentions what happend right after the night voldermort showed up at the potters house, it has a like a 30 second back story that leaves out half the details
I love this reaction. I love how you root for certain people and not for others. It's so funny knowing what's coming and seeing you react to things. It was originally my DAD who made me read the books because he liked them so much, and that is a nice memory for me now that he is gone. I look forward to this marathon! I haven't seen them in a long time, so it's a nice refresh. The third one wasn't my favourite but still good. I think I say that only because I liked the book so much!
Yeah, nobody gonna fear that Tom!
@@moontainbew5018 I am so glad you shared this portion especially from the books, Ron is so different than what you portray in the movies!
I didn't know that about the second thing.
Oh I know I remember watching that on YT somewhere, that was clever of them to keep those in the movie!
Also Harry's reply to Lucius at the end wasn't scripted, when he says: "I guess Mr Potter will always be around to save the day" and he says "Don't worry- I will be."
One of the biggest things between the books and movies is how they dumbed down Ron in the movies. In the book, he explains about the mud-bloods and pure bloods,
Also Ron in the book was the that didnt panic after 3 headed dog
Yeah but just because he didnt explain it doesnt mean he is dumb. He knew what it meant, thats why he wanted to attack malfoy but his wand backfired.
The movie is its own when it comes to personalities and I love it it fits the story better
Ron was kinda forced to open his mother's Howler. If the one who receives it does not open it in time, the Howler explodes. And the longer it takes to open, the louder the voice is.
So no matter what Ron was doomed to be embarrassed 😂 that’s great to know. Poor Ron!
Thanks for that extra knowledge my friend!
Yeah, embarrassment in front of the peers is the punishment! It's a way to make the lesson that you did wrong sink in. 😂
To answer your question about why they don't replace Ron's wand:
I’ll be in my room making no noise pretending I don’t exist 😂😂😂 gets me every time best line ever
Dudley's line a little bit before, or, more accurately, the way he SAYS it. "I'll be waiting to open the door."
@@learobinson4450I mean the rules could've changed since then. But it is probably just a plothole

Is this canon? It's not in the books?

Arthur Weasley and Lucius Malfoy engaged in a rough fistfight in the bookshop, bumping into bookshelves and was showered in falling books.
Just a casual disagreement. Funnily enough, a fistfight in the wizarding community is looked down on as barbaric. Only the common muggles engage in fistfights.
It's referred to as "Muggle duelling" in one book, I think.
"It is not our abilities that show what we truly are. It is our choices."
Fun Fact: Shirley Henderson is the oldest actress (age thirty-seven) to portray a Hogwarts student.

Not to mention, well, his dad 😢
This is a good point. I just wish he could overcome the Harry Potter hate… but he is 12 in the movie so I’ll give him a little grace hahaha

They can also apparate and disapparate in and out of places that are warded against traveling that way, such as Hogwarts.
the amount of 🤨 in this film has me floored🤣🤣
A caged owl, a caged Harry and caged Cornish pixies. All fly amuck when set free at last. Pretty much the theme of this story. Even the caged in his book Tom Riddle went wild. 😉
BTW, Harry got the Dursley house room upgrade because when Harry got his Hogwarts letter last year they saw it was addressed as Harry Potter the cupboard under the stairs.
LOL!😉😄

I love the scene with Hermione and Hagrid. Hagrid was the definition of a gentle giant. RIP to the great Robbie Coltrane 🙏🏼🕊️
Oooooooo
I loved your idea of traveling to Walmart using flue powder, but where do you wind up if you accidentally say “Wulmert?” 😂
Further improvised moments (besides Tom Felton's "I didn't know you could read"):
"Let us hope that Mr. Potter will always be around to save the day"
"Don't worry, I will be"
Both lines were improvised.
"I'm surprised people can't fly" well well well someone's about to be surpriiiiseddddd
Fun fact: in the book filch is revealed to be something called a "squib" meaning he was born to a magic family but has no magic.
Hey man, I love your reactions, you're definitely in the top 5 for me. Well spoken, you pay attention, see the humor and feel the feels. Respect!
Ayeee I appreciate that! I love watching movies and letting it take me on a roller coaster of emotions! I like to think of the videos as a documentation of my first experiences watching movies. One day I can show my kids my first time watching Harry Potter (albeit when they’re older lol)

Something to know before the next movie: the actor who played Dumbledore in the first two died, so the one from Prisoner of Azkaban is new.

LOL!

honestly it's a good point as to why myrtle didnt say something about the basalisk coming out of the girl's bathroom lol. like she must've seen it happen at least once?
I’m telling you, she was withholding that info!! Now I’ve got my eye on her 🧐
I love that you appreciate Hagrid
I hope to be a Harry Potter (movie) expert by the end of this and I’ll have you to thank for assisting me in that 🙌
Also, it makes perfect sense that the spiders having 8 eyes would make them a perfect victim of the basilisk
Mudblood is the wizard n word 😭
The guy that plays Lucius is Jason Issacs, he plays Colonel Tavington in The Patriot.

The Sleeping Portraits:
A magical portrait of each Headmaster or Headmistress of Hogwarts is automatically added to the gallery in the Headmaster’s office upon their death. They always seem to be asleep but they’re actually usually awake and they’re very nosy!
They provide support to the current Headmaster or Headmistress. This is really useful because they can visit any of their other magic portraits, so they can pass messages and even spy for the Headmaster.
Ayeee thank you so much!!! A perfect explanation ❤️🙏 I lowkey would love some art work to consult my issues with lol
Still a good novel in my opinion as well.

In Lucius eye’s Arthur Weasley and his love for non-wizards is a shame for the Wizaring world
The Sacred 28.
Like muggles there's also a term Exist for the Weasley's and anyone who disagrees with their elitist views.
They called them "Blood Traitors"
Actually there are at least 28 pureblood families, known as the Sacred 28, but there are actually more than that. The Potters and the Smiths were both excluded from the list because they were not 'pureblood' enough for the author of it, having pro-muggle views.
@@robertgronewold3326But some families of the Scared 28 are extinct, in the male line at least.
@@RiseeRee Yep, three wizarding wars and blood purity politics did a number on them. Plus geez, what is with all the purebloods and having only one kid.
The duel scene between Draco and Harry has got to be my favorite in this movie mostly cuz Draco falls on his butt 🤣🤣
He's also Grand Master Pycelle in Game of Thrones.
The other Dumbledore actor died too tho
Where does it say Hermionehas a squib in her family? Is this canon? The books just say muggleborns happen randomly.
@@lukvanleeuwen7603 It's part of the additional lore that featured on Pottermore. Basically there is a magic gene, and it resurfaces in Muggleborns.

Not sure if anyone has told you this but just in case:
The movies never cover the concept of wand allegiance in regards to Ron.

When you pass away it is hung up in the office and you are to assist Headmasters that come after you in any way you can

"Why wouldn't you not open that somewhere more private?!"
Because Howlers are on a timer, sort of. The minute you touch them they activate. If you open them, they do what you saw and destroy themselves. If not, they start to smoke in warning until they essentially explode.
I will never forget the fact that Lucius was so furious he almost murdered a student right outside Dumbeldore's office.
Interesting fact - Harrys ancestor invented the Skelegrow Potion that they used to grow harrys bones back.
That is one of the reasons Harry's as rich as he is.
Was it the Polyjuice potion? I thought it was that hair potion thingy
"Linfred of Stinchcombe, an ancestor of the Potter family, was known for having created many medicinal potions, one of which would be used as the basis for Skele-Gro"
Skele-Gro being the potion that regrew harrys bones after Lockhart magiced them away.
When Linfred died, his fortune went to his seven children. And over the generations, they added to their family wealth.
"Harry's paternal grandfather, Fleamont Potter, was the most successful when it came to turning mounds of gold into mountains. According to Rowling's post, he "took the family gold and quadrupled it" by inventing Sleekeazy's Hair Potion"
So there you go.
Usually.)
House-elf magic is just as, if not more powerful than a wizard's magic.
We have some candy here in the UK called Sherbet Lemons lol
The pictures/portraits are usually painted while the subject is still alive.
He's so in denial when it comes to these animals that he would never have thought in a million years Aragog would hurt Harry and Ron lol
Tom (lol fk u Voldy) wasn't going to take over Ginny’s body. He was stealing her life force so the memory of his 16 year old self that was preserved in the diary could become real.
We Slytherins aren't all bad. Don't tar us all with Tom or the movies’ brush! Lol
Dumbledore said a phoenix can carry immensely heavy loads.

Thanks for this happiness. Prepare for new great characters. 💕
That multi-stabbing motion 😂😂😂
Loved your reaction. Can't wait for next reaction!
11:57 i could be wrong but i’m pretty sure the car started failing because they crossed the force field/enchantment around Hogwarts
36:17: Myrtle haunts the bathroom because it is where she was murdered. She was the witch killed 50 years ago the last time the Chamber of Secrets was opened. In the later movies, you find out the exact reason why, but that's the reason she "lives" there.
Yay yay yay another reaction!
Fun fact: the phoenix who gave two feathers to be used as wand cores (the feathers in Harry and Tom’s wands) came from Fawks (Dumbledore’s phoenix.)
