It really did feel like she was getting bullied by the whole family. Everyone's attempts to screw with her was just a bit much for it to be a joke for me.
I know some cultures (I have a Mexican friend who explained it to me) do the whole “push the birthday person’s face into the cake on their birthday” tradition, but this family was reeeaaally going at it. Like that was excessive
My mom wasnt allowed to wear white on her wedding because she wasnt "pure" (aka a virgin). So her mother (my nana) wore white while my mom wore an ugly peach dress. It sucks because my mom looked so beautiful on her wedding day but you can tell she was so sad in the photos. It actually looks like my nana was the bride, not my mom. I honestly want to throw my parents a 2nd wedding for their 40th anniversary this summer and let her wear whatever white wedding dress she wants. What do y'all think??

Honestly, if you make a dance video in a store, directly next to someone, close enough to almost hit them by mistake, and get them in the shot without asking if they want to participate.... babe, that's on you. You deserve that side eye.
I didn't see any "side eye", the couple were just trying to avoid getting punched by a weirdo in Foot Locker. Her "dancing" is so bad, they may have been trying to ascertain whether this was an attempt at dancing, or if the girl was in need of medical attention.
I encountered something much worse recently at a Dollar Store. A young white woman was playing terrible "music" on her phone, turned all the way up. It sounded like country but the lyrics were offensive; racist and profane. She was trying to get the two black cashiers to react, and when they continued to ignore her, she got mad and shouted some stupid crap about "white lives matter". I was disgusted, but thought this was an isolated instance. The cashier told me this is becoming more and more frequent. WTH is wrong with people like that?
The funniest part is the girl didn’t even look at her once. No one was paying any attention to her and her ridiculous dancing.

I see this with so many dance videos in public. Like bruh I'm either trying to enjoy the scenery, do an errand or get from A to B. You're just in the way and your "fans" probably would be annoyed to if they got delayed because you need attention so bad. On another note I appreciate the rare one not doing shit in the middle of people's way and then get offended when others voice their annoyance.
When my husband holds me down so his sister and other family members can abuse me, I need to wake up and realize that this is NOT a marriage I should stay in.
Wow that last one though. Somebody was jealous that it wasn't her birthday and all the attention wasn't on her. The way her face dropped after she was unsuccessful at humiliating her sister. Then she got all happy again when dude stuck the cake in the girl's face. Then what the hell is up with that glass of water? Why y'all even throw a party for this girl or come to it if you guys hate her so much?!

She's got good reflexes. She caught the sister before she got too far and blocked most of the water. She only got caked because the little girl distracted her. They must be toxic to her regularly since she's learned to defend herself from almost all sides.

I got bullied by my family for years. It took me walking away for a few years before boundaries were respected. I hope the girl with the birthday cake situation sees she deserves better. This is so heartbreaking 😭😭😭😭
Long before social media and cell phones, I ran into a friend and her teen daughter at a grocery store. I hadn't seen them in a while. Out of nowhere, the teen breaks out into interpretive dance, right there in front of the meat case, no music, no video camera recording, just a random spirit overtaking her. I thought she'd lost her mind. Little did I know this was to become the norm, and I was the odd one out for giving her the side-eye.
My daughter still just randomly dances and sings and she’s 19

Now there is a reason why are doing this, they are recording it, so it definately is way less weird because I know that they are not having a mental breakdown.
as a weird teen I can relate to the kid in this story. 😂 kids will be kids at least now they have the excuse of "the internet" to do their weird public dancing
One of my brothers best friends attempted to cake me for my birthday one year. He failed to notice I was holding a knife. I saw him go to lift the cake, angled my head toward him & put my elbow on the table casually with the knife. He slowly backed away. We all broke down laughing after that.

That last one… girl, RUN!!! Get away from those people. If someone that claims to love you treats you that way, it’s not love. That entire group couldn’t wait to humiliate that poor girl. You could see they were terrified they might not get a chance to be first to do damage. My guess is they all would get butt hurt when she got upset, then would say It was all in fun” or “it was just a prank.” Run girl run.
I wouldn't be able to resist asking the mother if she bought her bridal dress at the same shop her daughter-in-law did and if she tried on dresses at the same time. (all in a sickly sweet, aren't you precious tone of voice)

For the "my mil shows up to our wedding in a literal wedding gown" one, that's when you eye her up and down, look back and forth between her and the bride, laugh condescendingly and say _"oh, thats embarrassing for you."_
Especially since it was not flattering on her whatsoever!!

I wore a black and purple dress when I got married. My husband and I got married on Halloween, not a one person wore all white, we had some folks in costume but not all white. It was pretty awesome

My niece had an October, Friday the 13th wedding. I wish I could have been there, but I live 1500 miles away and can't afford to travel.
My niece earned her Master's degree in Theatre and she works for a professional theatre company in Texas. She was able to borrow some very cool props to use in their wedding decor. The wedding was small with only their true friends and very few family in attendance. Many members of our family are hard-core evangelical christian nationalists who are bigots, anti-lgbtq+, who think everyone who doesn't think like them are devil-worshippers. They have shunned my niece for years, and myself because I've told them to MYOB. My niece and her spouse are Christian, but... okaaay.
They have been in a committed relationship for more than a decade, but they weren't allowed to get married sooner. My niece's husband is trans-male. Now that he can afford gender reassignment he has fully transitioned and they moved to a different city where neighbors who only see them as an attractive husband and wife who are very much in love.
Our anniversary rn is October and I want to get married(yes we have talked about it) with a white dress with black lace with black and purple flowers
I’ve been to two weddings that I’ve happily offered to grab the red wine and fix the situation 😈 first one the just had mil removed….but the second one (I’m at the age where literally everyone I’ve ever met is getting married) his sister learned I can just be soooo clumsy! Also got a buddy to video tape it…..I added music and sent it to them as a late wedding gift so they can enjoy that moment for years to come.
Oh and I also received a present from the happy couple. Nicest bottle of bourbon I’ve ever owned 😎

In response to the cake throwing in the face, this is definitely a thing in Mexican culture. When I was in my early 20s I was part of a traveling group in Texas and was staying at a host home, they took me out to a Mexican restaurant for my birthday and being from Canada I had no idea what was about to happen. The restaurant servers came out after dinner was served and put some dessert in front of me and after they were done singing, a lady came up beside me and pushed a whole plate of whipped cream in my face. Needless to say, I was very shocked and almost cried. I didn't know what was going on and excused myself to go to the bathroom to wash off, holding back tears because I wanted to be grateful they took me out for dinner but was also mortified and confused and frankly, really hurt. I felt really uncomfortable and awkward the rest of the night and for the entire trip after.
Just FYI, if you have customs and jokes within your culture, please don't assume other people will understand, sometimes it's simply better to do without. Or at least give people a heads up so they can have the chance to "be in on it" and either consent or say no thanks 👍🏼
I am Mexican. The tradition is [or used to be 🙄] to let the birthday person get the first bite out of the cake. Usually, for kids' birthdays or someone you were ok with pranking, kids would take the opportunity to mess with their siblings or friends and give them an extra push to get some frosting on their face. I never did see the ridiculous extremes we see today.
Tbh, whoever OKed the whipped cream in your face wasn't a friend. I have seen that done, but it usually was mean spirited. Again, the tradition is to let the person have the first bite not just to humiliate them. I'm sorry that happened to you.
Caking people who don't wish to be, or not used to being caked, is straight up awful and it needs to stop. My 18th bday, I had a "friend" try to shove my face into my cake - his fam tradition, def not mine - and he ended up forcibly straining my neck. I burst into tears in the restaurant, and was taken to urgent care; because I had heard a crack & it hurt SO MUCH to move my neck. So for the whole weekend after my 18th bday, I could barely move at all; because every movement caused so much pain. Dude never apologized, "it was just a damn joke" & called me overdramatic.
Another friend of mine got her hair caught on fire, because the people who caked her didn't wait for all the candles to be extinguished, before shoving her face in!
Someone else I know accidentally inhaled frosting & sprinkles into their nasal cavity & got a bad sinus infection, when they were 11. They've had chronic sinus infections, with every cold, ever since.

When I got into a relationship with my now fiancé I started being friends with one of his family members. They and I were really close and I adored them. They started fing with a married man and said it didn’t matter. I don’t hate them at all I just can’t bring myself to want to hangout with them anymore.
My mom and my stepmom wore the exact same outfit to my nieces wedding. It was hilarious to me, they didn't really think so 🤣😅🤣

How nice of the boyfriend and his family to get me the one thing I wanted for my birthday! A darn good reason to whoop all of ‘em! Not that I mind messy or watery (almost said “wet” which would’ve been taken out of context) celebrations but don’t ruin the cake or throw your backwash on me! Hit me with a plate of shaving cream and water balloons but for the love of all things holy, don’t mess with the cake!

They’re a really fun couple, so they cut the cake and smashed each other. I did her makeup and sprayed like 4 layers of nyx Matt finish on her to keep her face nice. It worked great. And we’re framing her torn stained ruined dress. Because she had an epic night.

I had a friend in college that is no longer a friend that would claim to "window shop" men and even if they were in a relationship say it didn't matter until he put a ring on it. Garage door opening barber shops are a fad. But, you to leave one of your walls open all day to do business and you won't have AC or heat, but you will get flies and maybe a bird.
Also, when a gust of wind blows in, all the sudden you've got a floor-hair dust devil flying into people's faces! I've never seen this, didn't know this was a fad for anyone. Sounds dumb, and how to make your business look like it's part of a swap meet.
Can you imagine the client's hair flying around from the windy open door as you're trying to cut their hair?
My wedding dress was made with this beautiful marbled looking pink, white, and blue fabric that reminded me of the clouds right at dusk. I still would have been mad if someone came wearing a white dress. SIDE EYE

About the mother in law wearing a corsage: the florists asks you if you want a corsage for both mothers. At least at my wedding 10 years ago I was asked that and I had both mothers and grandmothers wear one.

Yeah, at all of my siblings' weddings, ALL the ladies in the wedding party wore a corsage, and all the guys had a boutonniere. That's not really that uncommon.
I guess there's a cultural difference here because I know in some places it will be considered weird including my family because it's usually reserved for guys of the family who are bringing their dates to the wedding to meet their family that are potentially to be their wives in the future.
In the US it’s normal, but my mom hates them so she and my grandmother had mini bouquets

How do people believe the tiktoks with couples where they're like "doing x in front of my SO to see their reaction" while they pretend they're on the phone but they're obviously holding their phone to record the TikTok? I don't understand it lol my mind always goes to...what happened right before they hit record? was there a convo like, "babe, I've got a great idea! I'm gonna do xyz and you'll pretend like you don't know, then get mad when I reveal what I did, it'll be so funny!" or something? Idk why, it's just my first thought lol

Nah, that family at the end was looking to get into a fight. I bet they're the type to do some legitimately malicious, f'd up shit to others, but when you call them out on it, they try to play it off like iT's A jOkE. Kudos to the bday girl for dodging all those attacks and still keeping her composure. She def has more grace than me.
My mother wanted to wear a full length white dress to my cousin's wedding. For clarity, it was one she already owned not, one she'd bought new. At first when she showed me l thought she was joking. Things got quite heated when l insisted that no, a white dress was not ok and, yes people WOULD mind. I then also vetoed her second choice a totally black dress - l think it's become more common now to wear some black but, back then it was still quite disrespectful. She did eventually settle on something appropriate but, l really was quite shocked that she would even consider either of them.

The incident with my mum was many years ago. l've definitely seen more people doing it nowadays so it's clearly becoming more normalised also, I'm in my 60s, so it could be my generation as well. Probably depends on what country you're in too. Lots of people don't even wear black to funerals now and in some countries black isn't even the colour of mourning. 🙂

Every time I'm out and about and I see someone doing something clearly social media centered, I tend to give them the side eye. 9 times out of 10 these people don't consider anybody around them and make a nuisance of themselves, to the point most regular folks just can't stand them. >.

My mom and my brother's MIL wore the exact same dress to my brother's wedding. Not deliberate. My mom thought it was funny. Most of the guests thought it was planned and sweet. Brother's MIL was *not* happy about it. There aren't many shops in the area for bigger women, and really the dress and cut was very flattering on their body type (they have similar body types, almost the same height, etc). Almost 4 years later and brother's MIL is still salty about it.

For my sister's wedding (a May afternoon, dressy casual affair), the groom's mother showed up in a full, black and white, one shouldered, sequined gown. To say that everyone was horrified was an understatement.
Then, of course, she and her husband wound up stiffing our family on their agreed part of the bill and their family stole all the booze (open bottles and unopened returnable ones) from the bar (all of which we paid for) to take back to their place to have a post-wedding bash.
"Stacy I mean Kate" was so obviously in on the joke. They probably rehearsed it 3 or 4 times before filming.

@@sluttymctits4496 I’m halfway between Oregon and Colorado, and we do road trips every few months 😎 I recently broke my neck and edibles are the only thing that takes away the constant pain.
The strangest one for me is that I don't know if the "cat" girl was serious or not.
It's a strange fad going around. One of our local high schools (NZ) there are 3 girls who identify as being g cats and the school has to put kitty litter in the washrooms for them. Sad really.

@dhf161 Yep. My inlaws lived with me and couldn't even stop by walmart to get me candles for the centerpieces or refreshments for cocktail hour. Everything was decorated but no snacks or drinks. I said no phones, and I couldn't even see their faces. I said no pictures bcz we had a photographer, and the crowd met us at the end of the aisle like paparazzi, cutting our time with the photographer. My mother is ill, so I didn't want her to help. But my inlaws are perfectly healthy, living with us on vacation mode and couldn't care less. My father, on the other hand, was a champ. He cooked everything, drove me to the church, and even wanted to stop to get the candles himself. All in all, I hated my wedding

The kiss thing... it's a generational kind of thing. Everyone I've ever known of their generation greets by kissing on the mouth or the corner of the mouth ( which it looked like to me). Friends, their relatives, the friend's husband , sometimes even the men. It's a left over from the 60's I think, in the age of entertaining and dinner parties ( and the sexual awakening era).

Last time i ran into a content creator for kids in target and they had someone dressed as pennywise and the main person with the camera acted suprised and was pretending to run away. I gave them the biggest side eye, like okay get your money but please don't record me it makes me really anxious and it doesn't help im already a very paranoid person. My beautiful Aunt Conchita was born in Mexico in a village in the mountains. Her family are native American (I forget what tribe, but they spoke Spanish and a native language, and she's fluent in English too). As a young teen she went to live with her uncle in Mexico City who was a high-ranking government official. She became a professional model in the 1950s in print ads and fashion magazines and she met my uncle while they both attended the University in Mex. City. Why she fell in love with a goofy farm boy from Texas, I'll never know! 😆
When I was 17, in 1978, I spent 3 weeks with my aunt & uncle, 3 cousins, and our mutual friend who was a 16 yr. old white girl with auburn hair down to her waist. I used henna to color my hair, so it was also auburn (and I have green eyes), and my 16 yr. old cousin looked just like her mom, so she's gorgeous.
We went to visit my aunt's family and to attend a huge wedding in Mexico City. We danced until the sun came up the next morning. I didn't know weddings could be that much fun!
Anywhere we three girls went, we were treated like movie stars. We could be walking down the street, and guys would be hanging out of bus windows. It was ridiculous! When we visited my aunt's family in the mountain village, we stayed at an old hotel built in the 1800s. Each room had a balcony. It was part of the village square where most residents gathered. We had several handsome young men serenade us below our balcony. It really felt like being in a movie!
We kind of hated going back home. It took awhile for the swelling in our heads to go back to normal, as we had to accept we were only average-looking girls. Sure was fun!

It’s a Mexican thing. It’s where we all chant MORDIDA MORDIDA (TAKE A BITE, TAKE A BITE) and the birthday person takes a bite of the cake while also trying to avoid getting their whole ass head pushed into the cake. I hated it growing up and I hate it now. I always requested a cake that had to be made in a bowl type dish because I wanted it to be impossible to do. I HATE THIS TRADITION.
