Hey guys, it's Charlotte Dobre here, and in today's video, we're going to talk about people who are in denial. It's human nature to avoid facing difficult truths, but sometimes people take denial to a whole new level.
In this video, we'll explore some of the most shocking and entertaining examples of people who are in denial. From the person who insists they're not addicted to drugs, despite all evidence to the contrary, to the individual who refuses to accept that their partner is cheating on them, we'll see how people can create their own alternate realities to avoid facing the truth.
We'll also take a look at the psychology of denial, why people do it, and how it can negatively impact their lives and the lives of those around them. It's a fascinating and complex topic, and we'll explore it from all angles.
So, get ready to dive into the world of denial and prepare to be amazed. And as always, don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more videos like this one. Thanks for watching!

That tipping video was between two English women. We don't tip in England and we push against establishments that try to bring it in. Pay people properly, or in the hairdresser's case, charge more!!! She's probably self employed, just charge more!

Very true, my hairdresser has rejected a tip whenever I've offered to give her one. She's mentioned in the past she charges more than enough to not need a tip so I don't get why this woman in the video isn't also charging enough so she doesn't need to rely on tips 🤷‍♀️

You NEVER CRITICIZE THE CUSTOMER'S TIP OR LACK THERE OF TO THEIR FACES. I am a bartender and I've had non tipping clients come back later when they had money and tip BIG. I haven't seen anyone in North America who believes tipping culture is a good thing. I know restaurant workers are not paid fairly because tipping is expected, so I tip in restaurants. But hairdressers are often small businesses and they can set their own prices. So if you're not happy with me paying your stated price, then raise your price. Pay your workers properly. I'm not going to take responsibility for that as a customer. Edit to say that I've lived in Canada for 25+ years, so I'm unhappily well familiar with tipping culture.

Tipping isn’t standard in Europe at all. It’s even seen as an insult by a lot of owners because it IS accusing them of not taking care of their employees. I’m honestly shocked at how the hairstylist handled it, just cancelling the appointment and waiting for the client to call rather than her calling the client to explain it and try to come to an arrangement that works for both of them.

@@sonant888 no i think the person means Europe all together. Because I'm french and it's the same here. And it's the same for sure for a few other europeans countries. Because i have family and friends from there. In those countries... tipping is something we do when the service was very good that's it. And in some places like an hairdresser it's even less common to tip because of the price and the fact that the hairdresser is paid enough allready. It May be different in some countries like Austria. But in Europe the more common thing is not large tipping, from what I saw. It's a few euros and left to the discretion of the costumer. And in some places they don't even accept tips !

Europe is way too big of a place with way too different customs to say "it's like this or that in all of Europe".
In Germany we do tip, but it's not expected, and tips are usually just a few Euros.
There are people and places where we do tip. Servers, food delivery drivers, hairdressers, taxi drivers - many service industry people get tips. You don't have to, though. The tip is an actual extra and not part of your salary that you need to survive.

Thats really interesting. Here in Toronto (where Charlotte is also living) we tip hairdresser, nail techs, waxing and lash tech, bartenders, waiters, delivery, drivers... I even tip my doorman and other concierge staff sometimes if they help me (although some wont accept). It is expected and deemed rude to not tip here in Canada. LIke personally I feel like it would be extremely rude to not tip my hairdresser, which sucks because it already costs me minimum $300 for hilights/balyage wtvr... Was thinking the same thing, I have never once tipped my hairdresser. I would only imagine tipping if it was something like your wedding hairdresser, and then even it would be more likely that they would receive something like a gift for their effort. Because, you know, you have paid them their salary already. Or maybe it's something elderly ladies do on their weekly visit.

But the fact she accepted the appointment then cancelled basically cause a better paying customer came along is just wrong. But once you graduate, they match what you’ve put in for rent (as they set you up with education advancements, and a career), get you a car and then you use that money and can actually buy a home. It’s a great program. But many of the women end up basing their worth on their exes. Or men period. At one time, that was what a woman’s worth was based on, but not anymore. @@perunarieska9182 I live in Canada and nowhere does it demand or state you must tip. It’s our culture that if you get an excellent service or you thought that person worked hard to make you happy, you tip them. Certainly you don’t have to. I lived in England in my 20’s and it wasn’t really part of the culture so I get it. Here tho if you start a restaurant or any type of service business the wages they pay do take into consideration the average amount of tips the worker might earn so I think if you travel you need to understand the customs of the country you’re in.

You'd only really tip here if you've had really good service. And these days with the cost of living, loads of businesses understand that not every can afford extra. My hairdresser kept trying to give the tip back to me on my last cut as she felt bad 🤣🙈 (also when people tip in England it's not a set rate either, people would only tip a couple of pounds or maybe just round up their bill, this hairdresser is taking the biscuit! 🤣)

A lot of people in our lives are only "fair weather friends'-they're only there for you when its easy and fun for them. I think those friends aren't necessarily bad to have when you're down for an easy and fun time, but it's an important distinction when you're going through struggle. They're the first to disappear when someone isn't peppy and fun.
That said, it's also important to know how draining it is to even your closest friends if the majority of the time they see you they are trying to make you feel better. Just like you would go to your friends to relax and feel comfort-they want that too. It's hard to break away from a toxic relationship and wanting validation is important..but you have to keep in mind your friends feelings as well. If you don't think you're ready to leave a relationship, it may be more advantageous to seek out a therapist in the meantime and focus on ENJOYING time with your friends as stress relief. Definitely talk about personal struggle and occasionally seek advice-good friends will definitely be there for you...but the majority of friend time shouldn't force out that sort of dead-end emotional labor on their part.

In places where there isn't tipping culture, you just don't even think to do it because it's assumed that everyone is being paid a decent amount.

@@maimai-xc6wu I get that, but I don't know how to quite explain this part....
...I don't always directly say here is a $x tip, sometimes it just "happens". For example, I have my regular stylist and on occasion, I may not have the exact money to pay her when paying cash, so she needs to give me change, and if she doesn't have change I'll say, when I come back etc (knowing I won't ask for it). I've been I'll at an appointment once and she left to purchase something at the pharmacy nearby and was handing me my change, I was completely *joke* offended and said keep it. And I deliberately "overpay" during the holidays, for example, I know it costs $15 but consciously take a $20 note.
But I do get what you are saying, I've never decidedly said here a tip for doing my hair.
But cmon, she's been her client for a year, that to me would automatically make you a priority. As someone who's only ever had 2 stylists, 1st for about 12yrs and the other for the last 7 or so, loyalty should weigh more, the ones who tip may not always tip, but I would value a consistent paying client, I guess that's just me though.

And what I've noticed most explaining is that tipping, especially in this particular industry is not the standard in the UK, so I was really looking at it from the cultural perspective for the UK, not globally. Story time: So I worked for Starbucks for six years, and the last three years I worked at a drive-thru. We would keep one of our tip jars, we had a few because of the different points of sale, on the drive-thru ledge when the window was open. They weren’t typically labeled, because the chalk marker we used on them would usually rub off after a few days, but sometimes we’d write things on them. Well one time this customer came through and asked my coworker what it was for. He told her it was our tip jar, and she then proceeded to get mad that we weren’t instead raising money for the war in Ukraine. Ma’am we make minimum wage. We are not the ones you should be getting mad at about a war in Europe. None of us knew how to handle that one so we just gave her order and sent her on her way. Also when I worked in the mall Starbucks people would steal our tips a lot. I don’t care how you feel about tipping culture, but don’t do that. Steal a bag of chips or a cup if you’re so desperate you have to steal, but don’t take money from people just trying to do their jobs.

In the US tip is just, that a TIP for good service. It shouldn't be expected or demanded. The company should be paying them a fair wage. But if they won't literally no one is forcing them to work in a job where you count on tips to survive. You can get a normal job where you're paid. I used to work for tips and some nights I made way above minimum wage, and some nights I made way below minimum wage. That's why I chose to leave a job where I worked for tips to begin with. Why tho? I'm American - I always tip when I do go out - but it would be better if tipping was abolished and reasonable prices for expected service were put in place instead. Tipping culture ran rampant in America because service workers (mostly wait staff) aren't paid enough here.
Once you start expecting tips to be paid to workers who already make a reasonable wage for their work or who have set their own prices, tip policies can spiral out of control. This is especially true since expected tip percentage has creeped up over the years. I remember as a kid in the 90s that 10 - 15% was expected; it creeped up to between 20 - 25%, and I've seen places suggest 30% or higher.
Better to stop tipping culture creep before you're tipping your mailman so they won't leave your packages in the rain.

@@NotAFanOfHandles in the UK people can live on our minimum wage... Apparently in America waiters or customer service people are paid so little that they survive off of tips?

Tipping is a crap system. The customer is already paying for the staff services with the product hike up, I'm not about to pay their wages too. YOU as their employer pay their wages. I pay for their service as part of my price - because I know that salad costs 1.50euro, and not 23.50euro. Tips Are 100% voluntary. Making them mandatory simply means I don't use your service anymore.

@@emmas4466 It varies from state to state. In California, where I live, wait staff get paid the same minimum wage as any other minimum wage job - $15.50/hr which is more than twice federal minimum wage which is $7.25/hr - but in many other states the "minimum wage" for wait staff is only $2.13/hr and the tips are supposed to bring the amount they earn per hour _up to_ the minimum wage; if the tips they make do not meet the minimum wage, then the owners of the establishment must make up the difference. Logically, this means that it is actually _not_ necessary to do tips as the employers must ensure that their labor still gets minimum wage, but as you might have guessed, logic is a rare commodity here. Thus in California, the tips are just an added incentive to be wait staff.
Now, $15.50/hr might not seem too bad in comparison to $7.25, but CA is an overall HCOL *state,* and even in the cheapest areas it can still mean you need two jobs. For instance, where I live, the average rent for a one bedroom apartment is approx. $1900/mo., but that's just to _rent_ the place. You would need one full-time minimum wage job just to afford the apartment then another job to afford everything else.

I’m a hairstylist and tipping is a gift and not required. I would rather have the money from their services with no tip then to lose the client all together. Yes tips are great but if I have a client coming to see me and the service is $35-$150 (depending on what gets done) I would rather that steady income then a $10-20 tip and losing them.

When it comes to tipping at a business, you don't tip the owner: they set the rates. However, an employee that rents a chair usually gives a percentage or a pays a flat rate: tip what you can. Some parts of my state charge double the amounts in some cities.

My problem with the hair dresser is l, she should have either not made another appointment. She knew she was going to not do her hair after she didn't give her a tip the last time. It also doesn't say she hasn't tipped everytime. So we really don't have the whole story.

Not entirely wrong about your view on the hairdresser. That said, watching the whole interaction on TikTok lets us understand that the hairdresser is not actually an underpaid worker, she's a freelancer in a salon that charges as much as she wants for her services. At a given point the woman even says, "then well, up your prices, if you're relying on tips from your clients". Tip etiquette is different in the UK than in US/CA and she had no idea she was supposed to tip. So yeah... a bit torn on that one.

Ugh I used to work at a spa and we didn't have a front desk person so after I did a service on a customer I then had to check them out myself and it was so awkward every time I had to ask if they would like to leave a tip because our POS system made us type it in before they could swipe their card.. It was so embarrassing / awkward sometimes for both me and the client lol

We don’t have tipping in the uk. Sometimes we say to ‘the change’
But where does it end for you? Tip teachers? Tip shop assistants? Tip bus drivers? Tip street cleaners? Ridiculous.
Why should the customer pay more than the advertised price for the service they’re receiving?
America - pay your staff a decent wage.

Two things: 1)when I was an esthetician I appreciated tips. I never cancelled an appointment because a client didn’t tip but if there was a choice between two who needed to be squeezed in and one tipped, well guess who got the walk in. Plus I tip my braider very well and she takes care of me. Plus we just vibe very well too.
And 2) It’s EXHAUSTING having friends go back to horrible exes. I had one marry the guy and when she did I told she can’t complain to me about him because she married him knowing who and how he was. And I told another friend after around eight years of complaining that she must like it because she’s still there. She stopped talking to me about him after that. I don’t think that they understand the toll it takes on their friends. They don’t understand the love that we have for them.

The hairdresser/tipping story - here in America, most hairdressers are either the shop owner or independent contractors who si.pky lease a spot in a shop. They charge what the market will bear, and tipping is strictly optional.
Also - in the customer's favor is that there is no shortage of hair stylists, so none of them are going to remove you as a client. Because there is always some one better than you, and losing a customer will hurt you, not them.

A funny on tipping - I went to a chain type place for a hair cut as my stylist was away on maternity leave. That was the first mistake I made. The woman who cut my hair talked non-stop and I mean NON FREAKING STOP which in itself was annoying - I showed her a picture of my hair after my last haircut - it’s a very simple style. No problem she said, I can easy peasy do that. So she starts cutting - I was alarmed at the amount of hair she was cutting but kept quiet, telling self it will be okay. Second HUGE mistake I made. She gave me a freaking Karen cut!!!!! And the whole time complained about her daughter in law and how they excluded he from so many family functions, she NEVER shut up. I was horrified and almost in tears. I had large bills so said I would come back and give her tip when I broke the bills to pay for the cut. Didn’t this horror of a woman follow me to the register and ACTUALLY KEPT HER HAND UP IN THE AIR palm up and out for her tip. I was LIVID by this point and only gave her $5.00. She huffed and walked away. I normally tip at least 30% to 40% of the cut costs. Needless to say? Never went back and I also left a horrible review on their website, something I had never done before and actually named names. I should have given her a penny. It took MONTHS to grow out the nasty Karen cut lol

I'm so sorry you had that experience! That sounds down right awful! I tip like you.
She was rude to expect it like that. (I'm a stylist), even those who babe only commission or minimum wage should not expect it, but appreciate it, and treat you with kindness. She should never have done that with her hand for the tip. Eeew. So gross. And her reaction to your amount, even worse! If she hadn't done that I would say MAYBE the receptionists gave been taking tips or something (or she suspected) but that attitude after says is just get being a terrible human.
Good for you leaving a review! Sometimes you just need to.

I was the one always coming up with solutions that they never followed through with. Sometimes you just have to cut them off and let them deal with their own BS. Especially if it's a continuous pattern with them..

UK based barber here. We don't expect tips. Some customers never tip, some customers always tip but ALL customers pay in full for the service provided.
Any tips should be considered a gift. Some people are struggling and getting a haircut is a rare luxury for them. The fact that you are happy enough with the haircut/beard trim, that you continue to pay for my services? That's enough for me. Anything else is just a bonus.
