    I cut my locs to shoulder length and combed them out in 2008; it took three months. When I went to a salon she said my hair was in really good shape and all I needed was a trim. I got exhausted trying to learn my hair and loc'ed back up in 2014. I've learned a lot since then and I'm ready to try my loose natural hair again, so I am currently in the process of combing them back out from shoulder length locs. My advice would be use a lot of slippery conditioner and Shea butter, that's what works for me. When you get a section of a loc loose, if possible, try to work as much as you can loose with your fingers. Don't be afraid about the amount of hair that you are losing. Keep in mind that if you have had your locks for years and it is normal to shed hair on a daily basis, you have not shed any hair in years. The majority of what's coming out is shed hair, and your hair will feel like it's thin but it really isn't. I can tell there is a difference between the new growth and the loc'd portion of a section of hair. To me the loc'd part is twice as dense because it's never had an opportunity to shed. What confirms this for me is the fact that in my pictures when I first got my locks redone my comb coils looked so thin and scalpy as opposed to my mature locks now that look thick and full. I'm 4c-4z by the way. Hope this helps. 💕

    You do not need to cut all your hair off, there are lots of ways to strengthen and thicken your hair. You only need to clip off the bad ends and treat your hair .

    I combed mine out recently. I only had them for 8 months. I retained most of my length, however my hair feels significantly thinner. I used to be able to get plump and juicy twist outs and now they are flatter. I am doing protein treatments and deep conditioners for the next couple weeks before my trim.

    This is interesting because I still have locs and have unlocked my ends MANY times on many locs and the curls on my ends are beautiful and look very healthy. I would have to go to a professional to be sure. (I've had locs for 3 years.)

    I’ve been searching EVERYWHERE for someone’s experience after combing out their locs. Ive noticed that most people who comb out their locs either reloc not long after or cut their hair. I’ve had locs for almost 2 years now and I’m debating whether or not to comb them out. I would hate to comb them out then have to cut my hair cause of damage when I could have just kept them in and continued the loc journey. It’s all such a risk!
    But I do feel like my hair would be stronger and healthyish since I haven’t dyed it.

      All in all, everything is always no problem! Keep that in mind. But I do think they’ll be fine if you take proper care of them once you’ve combed them out. A trim would probably do you justice & deep conditioning at least 1x a week is key. (So sorry for the late response my love. I hope you’re doing well 🫶🏾)

    Locs are beautiful but can be such a lie in the end when you’re taking them out. You comb out and loose most of the length and thin out. And takes forever to comb out! I combed mine out and I wish I cut them instead! Locs are nice but for me not worth it. I’m sure if I want then again I will just use extensions

    • @VazhiiSingleton
      @VazhiiSingleton  Год назад +1

      They’re most definitely beautiful! I feel as if the hype around combing them out has created a false reality for those who no longer want their locs anymore. I’ve locked my hair up again since my first time & cut them when I didn’t want them anymore.
