Hello Matthew: I just got my DJI mini 2 this month Jan 2022 and really enjoy your lessons/lectures. I am far from expert, but I do enjoy your secret tips and settings. There is a blizzard going on outside, but I have lots of room to practice inside until spring comes. Keep up the great work. Thank you, Dave from Nova Scotia, Canada
This was outstanding information and something I am currently looking at doing. Many thanks once again for a very informative and no nonsense content! Mike
Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!
Thank you Matthew! This is so helpful.
I am using a Samsung Tab A7 Cellular , Everything works great. Does not lag or glitch. It's super light to hold. Screen is not as vibrant as the S7 but still very good Great budget option .
Excellent Informational Video Matheww! Thank You.
Thanks for your ongoing support - appreciate it.
Excellent info as always Matthew, thank you. I use an android phone but am thinking of upgrading to a tablet and this will make it easier.
What tablet are you considering? Thanks for the comment, appreciate it.
This has been really informative. Was just going to buy any old tablet. Realising I could use my mobile as a hot spot for the map updates etc was something I didn't realise.
I was about to comment when you mentioned using your phone as a hotspot. This is something I do frequently, and not just for drones. Too bad so many people seem to be unaware of this concept.
Lots of great info, I use a HUAWEI MediaPad M5 8" . It's Wi-Fi only but I just download the maps at home before I go and hotspot from my phone if I need to. The screen isn't great in bright sunlight, I'd love a Tripltek 8" but can't really justify spending that much when the Huawei does the trick the vast majority of the time!
Very useful info. Cheers buddy
Waiting for iOS version. But this is such a great help in case I decide to get an android tablet for my Mini 2. Quality content as always.
I just bit the bullet and spent the money on the Tripltek 9 pro, This was the best thing I ever did! Flying in bright sun light is no problem (1300 nits)
Question: Do you place your phone on airplane mode or have a 2nd phone when mounted to the controller? Incase phone/other notifications
Great video, i have problems with iPhone overheating and black screen. Any suggestions. Thanks
Informative as always, although for now I will be waiting for the iOS.
Wouldn’t GPS also be highly beneficial in the event of an “unexpected” landing? (Others have suggested that the “locate drone” function does not work unless you have GPS on the flight controls.)
Hi Matthew, do you know of any Cons within the Tripltek I’m seeing that whatever tablet you buy make sure it has this and this and that! Compass 4 Gb of connection and when it’s not cheap one needs to know of any pitfalls! before purchasing ! Keep up the great videos 👍
I was just wondering if you know if the LG velvet phone will work with the DJI Mini 2
Do the numbers within the colored areas of the DJI App column have any significance? And what about storage capacity? I never have enough room to download my flight files to my phone.
What android tablet do you use ??
Love the videos m8 they help alot.
Thank you 👍
nice video . great information,
Matthew...Appreciate the information. Looking at your list though... most of the tablets have only 500 nits, which on a sunny day say in Florida, w/o a sunshade, it's nearly impossible to see the telemetry on the screen. Perhaps you could provide us with a list of Best Tablets with the Highest NITS. Till then...Thanks.
Matthew. Which Android tablet did you go for? I am very tempted to get a TriplTeck 8 Pro but they are expensive and difficult to get in the UK.
Hi nice video .. can I use 7inch Samsung tablet to fly a DJI mini 2 drone thank you
Excellent job. By the way, what color is your background wall? Lighting looks great.
Very good tips.
Thank you!
Be aware some of the info is incomplete on that forum list. One of the most liked Android tabs on that list is the Galaxy Tab A8. it turns out you need the 64bit version with at least 3gigs of ram. I purchased the only Tab 8A I could find on Amazon for my Mini SE and Mini 2. It was 32bit and 2 gigs. Didn’t work with either one. Ended up getting an iPad Gen 6 instead, works flawlessly even though it’s 32bit. I always prefer Android over IOS, but DJI designed their drones to work with IOS, and it works well. I tried 3 different Droid tabs and 4 different Droid phones with DJI Fly. One LG phone worked and got me in the air, but was so laggy and hard to see that I gave up. The very few Androids that DJI lists as compatible are so high-end, and still glitchy, you might as well just get an iPad and be done with it, and fly with more confidence in the setup. Too bad DJI doesn’t step up their Android game. They are missing out on a huge customer base. I was getting so frustrated I nearly sent my Mini 2 back and go with Autel.
Hi Mathew love videos keep it up.
I am getting a tablet holder for my mini2 will cable reach side of tablet samsung tab a8
hi question hope you can answer it dji app not working on android just come up with a screen saying Academy any ideas TIA
Great tutorial. The only thing I could suggest is perhaps listing pricing of these tablets. Some seem to be very expensive. On a budget here! :)
Samsung Galaxy TabA 7 lite 3g ram has lags at turning de drone. I try it today. I will give it back and buy a 4g ram tablet.
Samsung A12 works with mine DJI mini2.
Do I have to pay for download Litchi app?
Hi Brian 👋, I am a newbie to drones, I have dji mini 2 , I bought a new phone yesterday, Samsung a22 5g , since then I cannot download videos in editing 😢, before that I used Samsung s9 flawlessly, do dji update the phones you can use with fly app .
Another thing to be aware of is that not all OTG cables will work with the DJI Mini 2 controller. The DJI Fly app launches, but you don't get the camera view, and it says "controller not connected to device". It HAS to be a cable compatible with the DJI Mini 2. My Venture Tab 10.1 works with the short 3" standard cable, but my 9" OTG data cable will NOT work at all.
Until I just updated the software on my Samsung galaxy S21 ultra I had no screen when attached to my controller.
Thankfully it works great now as I have the EU variant.
Android Samsung Tad 7 Lite works ok and you don't need another lead standard 1 fits perfect
the prob w the list is that many of the well rated tablets there are discontinued. While i could get them on eBay...i wanted one new. Anybody have experience with the ASUS ZenPad 10 ?
I dont understand the table at all. Devices supported by DJI for DJI Fly (marked with ●) but in that field is a number, what does that number mean? I would expect to see a tick or a cross? Can anyone explain please. I have a Huwai mediapad M5 Lite and want to know if it will work if I buy a mini2.
How are you supposed to connect to the dji wifi signal and a mobile Hotspot wifi signal... doesnt really work like that
Probably a dumb question but I have an android Huawei phone, does it matter about the device you use with the drone???
Great video what tablet did you end up buying? As the list for Android tablets is a bit out of date.
I fly with my z fold 3. I bought a tablet adapter to hold it, it has worked great so far. I can fly with it folded or unfolded
I knew it, being an android user will have its advantage someday.
Its hard enough getting the right tablet, but trying to find the correct connecting cable even harder, tried two from Amazon the second is on its way back to them like the first, does anyone have details of a cable that actually works, as I do not like the idea of sending my new Mini up into the wide blue yonder for it not to return...lol, thanks P.S. I have a Mini 1 and 2 so I need two cables...
i did'nt see the samsung s7!!! in the link you shared,it should be,its hotrod tablet
I'll wait for iOS. I use the MSDK for waypoints with Dronelink. Litchi is more seldom to use for me. Together with my Mac env. and Tablet at the field, the iPad mini or iPhone to fly I use cellular connected Tablets.I hope that iOS will be soon (as my Mavic does already)
Hopefully we at least get a date for the iOS SDK release soon! Thanks for watching - appreciate it.
Great video, I use the Tripltek 8 pro 👍
How are you finding the Tripltek? Thanks for watching, appreciate it.
@Mattheww Brennan I love it, the only knock I would give it would be the weight but it's very rugged so I don't have to worry about it breaking easily
I use the Dobo flat mount with mine and a neck strap
@Yorkie9668 so do I. I found a tablet holder large enough to hold the tablet with the flat mount attached, so I can continue to use it with my other drones
You should check the TRIPLTEK tablet, it is the brightest and the best to fly any drone, it has been made special for drone use.
TRIPLTEK 8. The best money I’ve ever spent.
Hi Bennan, love the channel, could you do a video on how use the new SDK for the mini 2 and the lychee app to use the active tracking, keep up the excellent work.
Working on a tracking video for the Mini 2 this week.
Thats great Matthew, sorry meant to use your Christian name .
Hi Matthew, great video. But one more important component is the Tablet's brightness in nits. People is flying outdoor, on a sunny day, you will need a tablet built for outdoor. I ended up purchase Samsung Tab A 10.1", it has a outdoor mode. Hope this help.
Great point, I completely agree. Thanks for pointing this out.
I wasnt able to install the fly app. dji says the tab a isnt compatible?
@@TheDroneCreative I've also gone away and build a tablet sun hood as well. A good DYI project.
What is the minimum rating you would suggest for outdoor flying?
David. I am Looking at the best Galaxy tablet for my Air s2. I was looking at the s8+ but would welcome any advise as you rightly so say the outdoor nits is important? Any advise is appreciated and also if its compatible on DJI Fly
WILL ANY TABLET WORK ON THE MINI 2 CONTROLLER????
I use the Tripltek 8" pro tablet with my airs2s
Best tablet ever.
The Tripltek 8 Pro should be the best option if you can afford it. Plenty of reviews around here.
I saved up my money and just bought one of these. It’s the best on the market well worth the money I think.
I use samsung tab A 8" with all my dji drones works great clear screen take all apps works well.
Does this need to be 64bit ? Or are all the tab A 64bit
@@MultiCamalot not sure i think thay are 32/64 gb its a 2019 model but works well on all my dji drones .
@@lin-fel cheers👌
Great video and that link is very useful which i've just bookmarked.
I'm using a Samsung Tab A8 (SM-T290) and the original DJI connection lead reaches perfectly still, so assume it would do for all tablets up to 8" especially if used with a 'MODJUEGO Adjustable Remote Control Flat Stand Quick Release Tablet Holder' (which I use) or something that mounts it in a similar position
The Samsung Tab A8 seems to be a popular choice! How do you find the screen brightness? Thanks for the comment, appreciate it.
@@TheDroneCreative Not to bad if I'm honest, I always have it turned right up and its been viewable on all but the really brightest of days without needing a shade.
can you recommend a tablet affordable????
I am using a samsung galaxy tab A7 lite 64 bit 4 megabit ram and it works just fine. Got it on sale at best buy for $120
@@Glenrsi They do have both
This is great information for anyone looking an Android tablet. Thanks for sharing!
firmware update in the field? WiFI bad? A tablet with LTE is a monthly bill, here over $40, I can download maps before I go or just do a hotspot off my phone for $40...
I watched your video but you do not elaborate as to which tablet you recommend - which tablet should i purchase??
You provide great info and it is appreciated! I don't have a mini 2 (maybe someday) but I am using a MA2 and considering a tablet, Samsung Tab A7 Lite 8.7" Gray 32GB (SM-T220NZAAXAR) to improve viewing while flying. This tablet is not 64 bit and has 4GB ram, MediaTek processor. Your thoughts on this? I won't hold you to any recommendations :)
This tablet is NOT supported according to DJI, the A7 is however.
I just purchased an 8" Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite 64Gig, GPS, 64 bit and WiFi. It works perfectly.
I think this tablet has no compass.
@@RobFrohne yes it does have compass. I checked the specs. Has been working great for me and GPS works fine. Always updates Return to Home.
Sorry, but you didn't answer the question "What Android Tablet Should You Buy For DJI MINI 2 Active Tracking?", no recommendation, just pointing us to someone else's work. It's good that you highlighted some of the problems, but I found this video less useful. The other crucial specification is what David Wong has pointed out below, the NITS rating. I have a fully compatible iPad Mini5 but even with everything turned up to max on the screen, I struggle to see it. Made a sunshade, but that still only just begins to help with this. Most rated tablets have very low NITS ratings, they are mean to be used indoors. The best NITS ratings are on the tablets that cost more than your MINI2.
WHy cant i download dji fly in android now? I fly using ios now, but why cant i fly using android even the phone is qualified to download it
Thanks for it but is not free $35 cad like the DJI app free it's really better than the DJI app it's worth it ???
Is a 10 inch tablet too big?
Great info. Just a few comments.. 1) I have a wifi only tablet. For using maps, you just need to go to Google maps and download offline maps for the area you'll be flying in before you go out. Works great. 2) I have a samsung A7, which does not have a compass. The downside is that the orientation indicator does not correctly show which way you are facing in relation to the drone. That hasn't been a big deal for me. 3) You don't need to spend a lot of money on an adapter to attach the tablet to the controller. I make my own using 14 gauge wire. Takes less than 5 min to make your own, and free if you have the wire.
I have the Samsung tab A7 lite. It works well with the Mini 2 except the video lags a lot. Probably because it has only 3 gigs of ram. Would recommend at least 4 gigs of ram.
@@dheller777 My tablet only has 2 Gb of ram and I haven't noticed any lagging in the video.
how do you do active tracking?
Using Litchi
I usually use an Ipad air2 for IOS, for Android I use my Samsung S7 phone.
I use Samsung Tab A7 Lite,No problem so far,cheap,lightweight.
Lags at turning the drone. I tested it today
@@rompetibias636 I haven't had this problem,everything works fine when I use it.
So which one should I get then...?!
Very much depends on your budget. Check the table at PhantomHelp (link in description) for the most liked Android tablets and that will help you find one in your price range. Thanks for watching.
why should i buy a tablet when i have a phone all the time with me ?
I hate to pick nits… but if you are remote with a WiFi only tablet connected to your DJI drone, you will not be prompted for a firmware update.
using a cheap tablet or phone can only cause problem, app crashes, drone fonctions will be slowed down, you need gps, thats the point of a gps drone, but no youtubers mention that, you need a powerfull tablet if you want to get the best of your drone
Thanks. I hate Apple with a passion...Good video..
Who is making update on the field ??? It's not necessary for flying. You can do it in home.
Offline maps
It needs to be 64 bit also.!
And it isn't enough to be 64 bit hardware; the OS must be 64 bit too! Be careful.
It's very funny everyone is talking about this app but no one has done many reviews on the rainbow app.
I will look into the rainbow app straight away! Thanks for the suggestion.
@@TheDroneCreative No problem I actually have it because I had a Mini one and used it for that. It was so great opening the app and see the mini 2 on there along with a few of the others. All I've done is some preliminary test flights.
Following advice like this I purchased from eBay a second-hand (good condition) NVidia Shield K1 tablet. It was supposed to be perfect and 'recommended' for the Mini 2 and dji Fly App.
It turned out to be an older model. Incapable of upgrading higher than Android 7.0 and downloading the dji Fly App. Complete waste of money !!! 🤬🤬🤬
Android is King.
Much better than the girly ipads.
The list hardly has any Android tablets that actually work.
if your gonna use a tablet get one with the highest NITS you can afford those on a budget like me i use a budget tablet samsung galaxy tab a7 lite works great but its only 330 NITS. Your gonna need a hood for this tablet throw a antiglare protector good to go. for those DIY like me just make the hood out of card board plenty of youtube videos on it LoL.
None smart controller all the way that’s what I use
Tripltek 8" no brainer
I use Samsung products with my DJI products. No problems
What Samsung phone/tablet do you use? Thanks for the comment!
@@TheDroneCreative Galaxy Tab S7 SM-T870
None.
Out dated now.
