It is 2022, been flying for a long time, but I still come back and watch this because I use only one or two techniques every time since when I am on flight, my nerves over runs my mind making me forget the other techniques🤗 Thanks Philip
hahaha, you and me!! I get that all the time, I have to look at my own videos sometimes to remind myself of my own moves 😂
"Do Not Flick Your Stick".... ahhhh, words to live by
haha, damn right they are 🔥
Some drones do not auto center on the sticks, correct? I guess that would help reduce/remove stick flipping.
Only in november my boy....
My body...my choice
My years of playing videos game w/controller have paid off!
Exactly my thought every single time I take this puppy up!! 😂😂
Great tutorial, mate!! It was very enjoyable to watch when a guy with UK accent shows that much emotion. :)
haha, thank You! It must be the Polish blood in me mixed with my British upbringing!
Lots of videos on specs, rare to see videos like this on how to tone your maneuver technique...good job 👍
Thank You, I'll be sure to make a few more on this subject!
@@jankocbek85 haha, you guys crack me up! It's true, I do what I love, but sometimes, especially when I'm dropping a video a day, it feels like a job, can't wait to slow down a little after Christmas. Thanks guys!
Well done mate, great to see videos like this! ;-)
Thank You Mark!

I like your way of teaching, professor. The simplist the better. best compliments from Clemente.
The passion and energy in the video is gold!
Thank You! I love this stuff, so happy to share it with you guys!
My goodness man that last shot was mad!!!
Thank You!
That sarcastic intro was amazing I really loved a lot 😂❤️
I think that's the English in me, we're such a sarcastic nation. Thank You 🔥
Watching for a second time dialing in my settings. Thank you so much.🎉🎉🎉
Well, I'm glad to hear that Jonny! 74 more to go, I think you'll hit your target!
@@PhillipSkraba yes gunna hit 1000 and heading to the hills Tomarrow to film and camp for a night going to try out the 180 degree rule on the drone using Nd filters for the first time. Wooohoo merry Christmas Phillip!
Al fin!!!! Alguien que lo explica y no solo vídeos. Saludos desde Perú!
Finally! Someone who explain it and no just a simple video. Greetings from Perú!
Thank You!! Wow, Peru, I'd love to see that one day. All the best, keep on flying!
Very useful and instructive video and now I totally understand that I have "just" to practice again and again ! Thanks a lot.
You're welcome! Yes, practice makes these moves super smooth!
Bought myself one of these for Xmas, soooo much to learn, your vids are helping me do that. You've got another subscriber 👍
That's an awesome present to give yourself! I'm glad I could help you out, and it's great having you on board!
From the comparison with your excellent teaching, I come out as a foot down and away with the drone. I must learn from you. Thats if I ever get up again with my phone problems that is...
Just got a Mavic Pro, (couldn't afford to buy it so built it from new parts in 2020!) Have watched 100's vids on the subject but after 6 days of flying starting to get a feel for the stick & dial sensitivities. Your vid came at just the right time. Awesome content coach, I'm like a sponge here. Subscribed.
No way, that's impressive, building a Mavic Pro! Thank You, I really appreciate that, I do my best. Lots more on its way. Welcome on board.
Built from scratch- Sounds like a task!
Do you have any tips how I can do it ? I also cannot afford the cost 🤣
@@hanoitripper1809 Honestly it wasn't the smartest thing to do. I could have bought a second-hand combo very cheaply but I wouldn't know the crash history therefore the reliability of the unit. Building from new DJI parts did turn out to be quite expensive. There is a point where old, new parts stock starts becoming more expensive because of its rarity. I saw this in the price of the two internal motherboards and the camera. At one point spares were plentiful and cheap but at building in 2020 the model was already 4 years old and prices were starting to creep up. If you can deal with not caring about which parts may be worn out I'd recommend buying a cheap (complete) one off ebay or private sale. If you want to go the build route, AliExpress has all the parts you need with a few odds and ends from ebay. I benefited greatly from the tons of teardown & repair videos on the original from YTube. I don't see so many such videos on the more recent models. Whatever you decide, piloting these things is quite interesting. Good luck. 👍
@@JuicyFruityify thanks for that information. Just wondering, did you ever had issues with Ali-express being fake or scammers when you ordered?
Great channel and video. That last shot is so tricky but when you get it right ....wow.
Thanks for the help mate!!!!!
Thank You David! Last shot takes some work but can look really Hollywood when you nail it.
Gosh I love this little beast even straight out of the box! I watched all your Mini 2 videos before even buying it. Love filming with it and it surprises me every time I edit my cinematics just how great the footage this thing delivers. Thank you for posting!
I like how I discovered this video right after I posted my first travel video with my Mini 2 in Croatia
I’m glad you did! I’m guessing Croatia is stunning 👌🏻
@@PhillipSkraba Yes! First time I've ever made a travel film, croatia was perfect to test out the Mini 2! Got some amazing footage
I can imagine!
Just got my Mini 2 a few weeks ago. I'm very familiar with drones, but coming from cheaper "toy" ones this is another world entirely! I'm looking forward to getting some great footage and I've been binging your videos a lot to see how I can do it. Keep it up!
You'll love it! It's a fantastic drone, and it really does an excellent job up there! Have fun and be careful Anthony!
I own a Mini 2. Your videos are extremely helpful in getting the best out of the drone!
Thank you, I’m glad you’re liking it.
@@PhillipSkraba Absolutely loving it! If you ever come to India, please do let me know.
Great video, thank you.
Only just got my Mini 2 and every day is a school day, but your videos are really good at explaining.
You're welcome, glad I can help!
Just unpacked my mini 2 yesterday and took it for a flight for the first time. Super glad I found your videos, thanks Phillip!! You’re awesome
Thank You Kristen! The Mini 2 is a fantastic little drone! Awesome is you and your guitar 👌🏻
@@PhillipSkraba awe thank you!!!!! Yes I look forward to playing it and flying - a scary thought but I have to try! Lol
haha, I think flying first will be good, and then playing to the footage you shot. Playing whilst flying would be impressive!
@@PhillipSkraba lol, well.... only possible while hovering or taking quick shots. I can’t flick my fingers, I don’t wanna get in trouble hahahahah!!!! Stay tuned, I will try this week lol
@@KristenMcNamara haha, don't flick your fingers Kristen, or you'll be in deep trouble! Have fun, keep me updated 👌🏻
Great stuff. Especially that final complicated shot! Thank you for pushing us to up our cinematic game!
Thank You!
I learn so much about flying from you!
I'm glad to hear that!
We need more of these!!
I'll do my best to keep them coming!
Thanks for this vid. It's great to see someone having fun and being serious at the same time!
Hi Philip , Ty ty ty for the gimbal settings , will try these out , 1st settings I have seen for these and watching the footage is a great place to start
You're welcome! I hope they come in handy 🔥 Keep those sticks smooth and you'll be gold!
Watching it an year later... totally worth it still.. great tutorial
Thank You, that's great to hear!
Awesome tutorial, your techniques made me think of focusing on an object feature and keeping the camera pinpointed on that feature to create the desired shots. You coordinate the drone movement and camera with such precision akin to a fighter pilot with a laser guided bomb. I intend to build those hand / eye coordination skills in my next shots - thank you!
"You coordinate the drone movement and camera with such precision akin to a fighter pilot with a laser guided bomb"
haha, oh damn, that's a comment 🔥
Thank You so much! I'm oldschool, I think I overplayed GTA and generally played way too many video games. I'll do my best to get some more content like this for you guys, I'm working on one film right now with the Mini 2 I should be dropping soon.
Nice video. If you don't mind the criticism I think a better analogy in regards to the "flicking of the sticks" would be vehicle braking and coming to a stop. Good drivers with experience feather the brake pedal to ease out of a stop which limits the whip lash affect. New drivers keep their foot mashed down on the brake pedal and then suddenly let off upon reaching their target stop. The result is the classic whip lash affect. (My daughter is practicing for her license and is a learning this technique now at the expense of my neck muscles) Keep your thumbs and finger on your control surfaces and ease out of controls to keep everything smooth just as you would do when coming to a stop in a car. 👍😁🙋
I agree with everything you said, and I know exactly what you mean about whip lash, I've been in the car with some rather bad drivers. Being blunt in this point however I think suites the drone controller perfectly, as you are quite literally flicking the sticks, however naughty that may sound. A car pedal on the other hand doesn't have the flicking motion. Whilst doing a practical drone exam if we flick our sticks it's basically over, much like with a car, total lack of control. Good luck to your daughter on her exam 👌🏻
@@PhillipSkraba my point with the braking was that an experienced driver does not remove his foot from the brake pedal but simply feathers it..always in contact with the pedal. The only way you can flick a control stick is if you remove your fingers/thumbs from the control surfaces. If you don't remove yourself from your control surfaces it becomes impossible to "flick" your control surfaces and you will learn to feather your controls. Age doesn't just make you look old. Occasionally it's good for some wisdom. 😁
YOu are the lifesaver!! Ive been searching for these vids but this was one of the best, great straight to the point tips. Thanks a lot man
You're welcome, had a great time filming these!
Such a great opening scene.....classic!
haha, thank You, just me being silly 😂
Hi Phillip. I found your channel because I bought a mini 2...and I have watched almost all your mini2 videos and some others of you! I am so happy about because you show so many things for a beginner drone flyer like me in a great way. I like your humor and your teaching style, it's so pleasing listening to you and your tips, your videos are so diverting. And I really like all your cinematic videos shot with the mini2 and hope I can also fly so smooth and cinematic someday in future 😉...I am still learning. How do you plan your flights, so that you find the right place to catch all the stunning footage? Do you plan it before with a map? Thank you for your effort and great work you put into your videos, I subscribed after seeing the first one 😊 I am looking for the next videos and please keep up your good work! Greetings
As a retired cinematographer, a master of the geared head, just getting into drones I find this very instructive good work thanks.
Thank You! We used to have hours of lessons trying to get the geared head perfected, but my brain didn't enjoy turning those gears in the correct direction! I'm glad this helped.
@@PhillipSkraba Gear heads are one of those things that you can either have the knack or not, doesn't seem to be a middle ground.
Yes, I really didn't enjoy them, it's like doing the circle manually with your drone, it's fine when it's flying away from you, but when it starts circling back, that's when your head plays tricks on you. I eventually got the hang of it, but much preferred a Sachtler fluid 😂
Just got this sick aircraft, i can’t believe DJI basically squeezed Phantom 4 into this super compact frame, for 600$ fly more combo is the best thing you can possibly get, I love it! We are witnessing Unbelievable technology here, what a great time to be alive!
I agree with you, I'm still amazed every time it's in the air, the quality is incredible!
Mine just arrived yesterday afternoon! I got the fly more package and everything should be charged up so I can try it out later today. I can’t wait to go kayaking with it!
Thankyou Philip your videos help me a lot. All the best from India.
You're welcome! All the best from Poland 🇵🇱
sometimes a get nervous, and my dumb start shaking , and I have to stop, and start using both fingers on each stick. But this is when flying my phantom in difficult situations (flying over a city). With the mini2 I will be more relaxed. Thanks for your cool video
I find that using both fingers adds extra strain to my fingers in turn making them shake 😂 I guess we all have our ways of calming ourselves down. You're welcome, be careful out there!
I love to watch your videos because you're really providing good information and i can clearly see you're really passionate about this!
Thank You! Yes, I'm very passionate about it, drones, filmmaking, photography, that's basically my life.
You nailed this .. I am really impressed

Late to the party, just got my first drone (the Mini 2) and found your channel. Turn out that playing Xbox for ages helps A LOT with drone flying 👍
If you played Xbox you're going to be bad ass at flying drones! Playstation not too much, they're a little stiff on the sticks 😂
Good stuff. I needed a refresher. Just grabbed a mini 2 after not flying my mavic pro due to too many regulations.
You’re going to love it, such a great little drone!
Great Job on this video Philip, this is the single video on RUclips which explains exactly what you need to do with these sticks... 👍
Some people like GoPro'ing the sticks, I'm not a fan of that, I prefer you hold the pad, watch the screen and I walk you through it. Thank you, glad you liked it!
thanks for good tips. greatly appreciated
You're welcome! I'm glad they came in handy.
Finally someone explains everything in a slow motion step by step instructions . Well done and keep it going.
Thank you Mike! Hope you have fun with it!
@@PhillipSkraba I do it’s so much fun. The only part I’m stress is i don’t want to fly in some restrictions zone that I’m not aware of. so far I’m reading plenty of regulations to make sure I don’t break any rules.
Sure, be considerate, be safe and just general common sense. Nowhere near airports, prisons, motorways etc and you'll be fine. If you fly in a no fly zone by mistake and fly out the drone police won't be after you, so just be aware. Use Airmap and you'll be fine.
Excellent shots !!! You should be on Hollywood 😊
Thank You!
0:30 this is part where your intro should hit :D
Yeah?
