Would love to see the Mavic 2 Pro and an Inspire 1 / X3 thrown into the mix, both still an order of magnitude cheaper in today's money and I bet the comparison would be much closer.
In regards to the "360" obstacle avoidance, it's not totally wrong. With the Inspire 2 you can fly with the hull facing forward in any direction and the obstacle avoidance will work, while the camera rotates any direction underneath. So while it doesn't have "rear obstacle avoidance" there's no reason to fly backwards when you can rotate the hull around and fly "forward" and let the camera look back. This isn't possible on the small drones so they need more sensors all the way around.

@@rajs4012 that's quite a loaded question tbh. The mini 2 has advantages over the original air in that it has a MUCH BETTER battery life and in the UK it can be flown in built up areas whereas the air cannot unless you take additional (expensive) training but it doesn't have avoidance sensors and it doesn't have a "follow me" function. The Air 2 and the newly released Air 2s are significantly better drones and have better cameras but for me they aren't as useful because you can't fly them in built up areas. The simple answer is that non of them are better or worse, it just depends what you need, what you budget is and what you want to use them for, hope that helps
Bought a Mini2 and might be selling my Mavic2 zoom. Mini2 is so much easier to take along and fly. My smart controller costs more than the Mini2 its controlling!
One thing to remember, is how well humans can detect differences side by side. Shooting a production with an inspire grade camera on the ground, and inserting bits of aerial footage from the mini with finished edit/grading. sound track etc, nobody will notice. In the early days of digital movie making, Pros's were using off the shelf 35mm cameras in video mode for tight places shots, where a huge cameras just wouldn't work. $1000 camera inserts into $20K+ camera productions. Of course we would love to shoot our tiny productions with mega budget gear, but shot/edit choices, great story, good sound, make for a good production, regardless of the gear. This little drone is remarkable for the price.
Thank you so much for this wonderful review and educational video!!! Just think about what we are now able to do in a pocket format---we now can simulate helicopter/airplane shots that used to be reserved for only big-budget films, and the device can be put into a small backpack with a cost of less than $500! The fact that there was even a slight hesitation from the reviewers when trying to figure out which drone shot which image is an automatic win for the mini 2. Just think, with new technology the drone that costs under $500 is in the ballpark with the pro level $12,000 drone! For enthusiasts, travelers who are shooting documentaries and need a small size along with reduced governmental reporting requirements, the mini 2 is a remarkable addition. Certainly, Hollywood level drones are made for large screen movies, etc, but for the 99% of us who are watching videos either on a laptop or a large screen TV, the small drone just kills it in this competition. Can you imagine having to buy, rent, carry around, load, unload, set up, etc the huge drone with it's loud noise, to get the slightly better image quality?
I wouldn’t consider the dji inspire 2 a Hollywood drone. An example of a real Hollywood drone is the FREEFLY Alta x Link below www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1556096-REG/freefly_950_00100_ckfu_alta_x_drone_with.html/?ap=y&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIopGoiKq97QIVlkmGCh2mSA7aEAQYASABEgIiwPD_BwE&lsft=BI%3A514&smp=y Keep in mind this is without a camera, with a camera this can get over $100,000.00

Yeah in that case you'd stick with something like the Mavic 2 pro or the Phantom 4. Mini 2 is good for your average family wanting to take better pictures of their weekend vacation and post it onto social media sites which compress the hell out of videos.
I used an inspire 2 for my high school graduation video. Despite my lack of proper film production knowledge, the final product was arguably good due to the quality of the drone. Did end up using footage from a Mavic 2 for indoor shooting.
Been flying drones since I bought my 3DR SOLO. Just Picked up the mini 2 flymore combo and I am completely blown away by the capability of this tiny drone. I call mine the Mighty Mini. At 600.00 dollars for the bundle you get a heck of a lot of value. Question for Ted or Dave, how did you break into the industry?
Hey, loved this video. I just bought the mini 2 last week and I have to admit , I am impressed!! I love the battery and the video transmission range is great. it is super portable.
interesting comparison. I'm glad there's a difference between an $11,0000 drone and a $450 drone. It would kinda suck if the I2 wasn't just a bit better
For real estate or architecture the MINI 2 is great....I use it indoors to do 360 panoramas. Touch the round image and than it goes to moveable view around a room up and down also. Pretty neat and useful.
I was a commercial drone operator for a couple of years and the inspire 2 was the best drone I ever flown. But it was being used for commercial projects which is overkill for someone who now just wants to make the odd small film. I now have the mini 2 after selling the inspire 2 and I'd say that its more than capable for the average drone operator that just wants to make small videos(although I do miss the follow me feature). :)
3:20 I think the issue is with the Sport mode. Lots of reports of jerky gimbal motion and intermittent vignetting at the top of the image. The wind velocity is probably too much for the Mini's gimbal and DJI has increased the speed of the Mini2 by increasingthe pitch. Consequently the camera can sometimes see the props come into the picture.
I absolutely freakin’ love my mini 2….it’s insane that it comes packed with all these features in that price….it’s a great drone for beginners that actually want some quality and it’s also great for a backup drone for professionals!! But I’ve got to say that one day I’ll get the latest inspire, these drones are beasts!
Just a little heads up @ 4:20 the Inspire 2 doesn't have a full 360° obstacle avoidance, because the only sensor are located on the top, front, and bottom of the drone.
The Mini 2 is a consumer camera basically, so like most consumer cameras, it tends to punch up the contrast and saturation to make the image more vibrant. The Osmo Action has a similar problem which is why it has D-cinelike to flatten the image out. The GoPro can go even flatter. So to me, it was really easy to tell the two apart. On the other hand, the Mini 2's video will, for most hobbyists, deliver a picture that's 'good' right off the memory card with no or little post-processing. What the Mini 2 needs is a D-cinelike mode. Ok, it needs a RAW mode... but... :)
Great comparison video. It's incredible what these little drones can do now. Obviously not as rich an image, but fairly close for the majority of use cases. The sweet spot in the range might be the Mavic Air 2, slightly bigger sensor than the Mini 2 and with the flatter log profiles. But price and size are sorely tempting on the Mini 2, great value for money!
Loved this! I've literally spent the last few days watching Mini 2 vs Air 2 & 2 Pro videos, thinking hard about what to choose for my first drone. Having used the Pro 1 & 2 before, I'd of NEVER thought I'd "downgrade" to the Mini 2 and sacrifice those beautiful 10-bit & D-LOG features, but since the UK wants to suffocate us filmmakers with their new drone laws, I've had to consider a sub-250g drone like the Mini 2 to "fly under" (😆) the stricter restrictions that 500g+ drones have. Seeing this comparison has made me feel a tad bit more confident about getting it! When you said, "does it even matter how good the camera quality is as long as you're adding to the production value by flying a drone" - I felt that! Soooo true. Ugh ok, brb going to Amazon to buy this thing. P.S. Can we just take a second to admire the Canon A7Siii hoodie lol!
The first thing to getting that "cinematic look" is knowing what you're doing and using the proper equipment. A $60,000 Red camera isn't going to make you a cinematographer if you don't know about lenses, light, etc. But I am beyond impressed with the quality of the drones out there.
Great comparison! It is crazy how difficult is it to tell them apart after they get uploaded online. The over-sharpened Mini footage loses fewer small details to compression, so it tends to look more respectable in a direct comparison online. 🤷♂️😁
The Mini is still a great drone, but the Mini 2 has some very nice upgrades. I agree the Mini seems to over sharpen a bit, but WOW for $400 it's a no-brainer to get one.
I feel like I could start to see the differences by the end after you guys wen through detail by detail on distinguishing features of the video from each, but I wouldn't have been able to tell without the cues.
No is not correct On the mini thers a lot of processing added like increased contrast (from there the dark shadows) but also sharpening more colors On the other drone they used the the flat profile (no sharpening, low contrast standard colors) which is better for post processing
Thanks for another great video and considering you can buy 25 Mini2 drones for the price of 1 inspire2 its amazing what $450 can buy in 2020. I love the added zoom and being able to squeeze this super quiet drone into my DSLR bag makes it my new favorite for the everyday carry
Damn....thanks for the video... that you're even comparing these drones answers any question that the mini is a GREAT drone. I got rid of my Air 2 and was thinking about getting the FPV but the crashes have me hesitant but the mini 2 now is a no brainer.
If you use sport mode on mavic mini, the glimbal does not turn far enough causing it to shake a little. But if you use c (cine mode) or p (normal mode) it wont shake.
I asked my wife, who knows little about photography, videography color accuracy, etc. She said they are close enough where she can't tell the difference.
true but you have to realize the inspire is used for PROFESSIONAL editing, with the dji mini 2, it color codes because without the color coding the footage would be MUCH worse, the inspire already has good enough footage to have the actual real looking footage of what you're seeing, it's for cinematic movies. For editing
I have an inspire 2 and a mavic 2 pro and the difference between those is huge in every way. It’s like shooting with a better gh5 vs shooting with a Sony RX camera.
color correcting the two shots to make them match would have been a better comparison, without that it's obvios that the one that leans towards green is the inspire and the one that leans towards magenta is the mini, also the digital sharpening of the mini is a dead giveaway, can you turn off internal sharpening on the mini?
Hey man! Awesome video. I have been drooling over the inspire 2 ever since it's launch. Such an amazing powerful drone. But it doesn't have 360° obstacle avoidance. It has bottom, top and front sensors. It doesn't have sensors in the side or back as far as i remember 😁. Would love to fly that inspire 2 one day😍😍
Watching this on a phone, you can see a difference, but not a 10.000$ difference. The dynamic race is so good on the inspire. Picked up the mini 2 for the price.
The mini 2 looks better in most of these shots, other than an overblown sky, its sharper, easier to get going & in canada no license, no permissions; just go. Also the inspire 2 makes everything look WAY over anti aliased (not a camera term i know) but it looks like an older cheaper cam because of it & the mini's sharpness just makes it look like a higher budget production result.
Please compare footage between the Mavic 2 pro and the Mavic Air 2. Is there visible difference between variable aperture and fixed aperture drones and is the 2 pro only better in low light.
Loved your video but want to make a suggestion. You are primarily comparing the gimbals, stabilization and cameras. I suggest putting a DJI mini bolted underneath the Inspire 2, that way you get exactly the same lighting and positioning to make a much better assessment of the differences in picture quality. I have never used a drone (I am a geneticist), so I have no idea if what I am saying is total baloney. My guess is that you would have to use software to disable the mini except for the camera. Should be doable through software. Anyway, I loved your video, I hope you or someone else tests my suggestions. Cheers, Ian. Aussie enjoying Oregon.
As a real newbie, like never flown a drone before, I got my first drone yesterday and had my first ever proper drone flight and you guessed it, it was the mini 2 and the thing blew me away. So easy to fly like really easy. I did crash it into a tree but it was totally fine. Looking forward to leaning to fly it properly before buying the Inspire hehehehe. But loved it and thanks guys for the comparison. Actually made me feel good about my mini purchase, bring on more comparisons 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿

the small drones are often oversharpened and sometimes have a ultra choppy image idk why... it sometimes loks like it records 15 frames, then a skip then another few you can see it at 5:35 too
Some ND filters for that Mini would up it’s game drastically. I have the original Mavic Mini, and a $50 set of NDs and I’ve gotten unbelievably gorgeous shots, and upscaled the 2.7k to 4K and I’m happy with the results. So the M2 coming with 4K (even though it’s compressed) is a viable option for the indie folks.

It’s amazing how capable the Mini 2 is. Especially considering the price difference. I sold my Air and got a Mini 2, i love it!
I did the same, just without selling my Air. Need to sell it because it never gets used anymore
@@jaysee2213 Is the mini 2 better than the air? Also is the Air 2 better than the rest of the lineup?
My Mini 2 is coming next week, so excited!
Mini 2! Easier to travel with and less noisy! Great video!
Absolutely! Hey thanks!
Video is in 4k
Me watching in 1440p: Yes, the quality is exquisite
Get on my 360p boi
I can buy 20 Mini 2 drones for that $11k hollywood drone!
and you can still not match the quality with 20 of them
I wouldn’t consider the dji inspire 2 a Hollywood drone. An example of a real Hollywood drone is the FREEFLY Alta x

Keep in mind this is without a camera, with a camera this can get over $100,000.00
I would rather buy 11 "Skydio 2" drones :)
@@sranjesuper well they did get a couple wrong. If you used the mini and said it was the inspire they would believe it.
Buy those 20 Minis and shoot your shot 20 times with different exposures. Bam Pro RAW20
Since you see once the sharpness out of the mini's footage, it's hard to confuse it with anything else, it's.. like really tooo much!
Mini 1 and 2 have way too much sharpness added. The air 2 is much better
yeah sad that you can´t have any log or controll over the sharpness... This is wanting me to buy the Air 2
@@froznfire9531 i don't think there will ever be the log option, but hope for some more configurable setting in future update.
Btw i have M2pro for most important works, it's just a different sport! the mini is ok for flying over urban centres without hell of permissions and for my back during hiking
@@cassijoanna those all have larger sensors = more light being captured
because the mini and it's well, mini sensor can't capture as much light - the shadows are very dark making the whole shot over sharpened
I think for me personally the ONLY real downside of the Mini 2 is the lack of a log video mode. Otherwise its the PERFECT holiday / family drone.
What is that?
@@davidtelllez2876 It's basically the equivalent of RAW for video.
@@TheCloudhopper thanks
Yeah in that case you'd stick with something like the Mavic 2 pro or the Phantom 4. Mini 2 is good for your average family wanting to take better pictures of their weekend vacation and post it onto social media sites which compress the hell out of videos.
Yo wtf I used to watch y’all back when you made the BFX videos years ago, and I’m just now finding you guys again. Damn y’all look so professional now
3:26 Every time that happens to me my heart stops. Even though I know it always comes back. Probably happened a hundred times.
everyone make mistakes
I did guess wrong half the examples, because of the sharpness, not of the dynamic range! I seem to prefer the Mini 2!
I first thought that this video was clickbait but i found it very informative and entertaining!
I used an inspire 2 for my high school graduation video. Despite my lack of proper film production knowledge, the final product was arguably good due to the quality of the drone. Did end up using footage from a Mavic 2 for indoor shooting.
The *Ted and Dave Show* works! Btw, I want a drone somewhere between the two, and preferably with avoidance and tracking capabilities.
Haha! Thank you! Ok... we will do more!! You should look at the Mavic Air 2 then! Has almost everything you need or if you need more the Mavic Pro 2!
Mavic air 2 and phantom 4 pro would be a good option for you then.
Personally, I'd go for the Pro 2, I have it and can definitely recommend it if it's in your price range. Just a spectacular drone.
Stunned. What a great little piece of kit. I’m going to make a guess that in low light conditions the difference would be more obvious
Very true. Skills is more important than equipment. You know what they say: "It's not the arrow... It's the Indian"
You're going to offend sensitive politically correct ppl with that statement 😂😂

@@jManraM sad but true 🤣
I’m 100% Native and approve of this message. 😎

Im chilling here painting my little tello completely matte black while watching whis amazing video
Treats the inspire with care, throws the mini 2 on the ground so hard it bounces 🤣
Thanks for shooting some drone footage for us Dave.
Heck ya! Was so fun!
What is crazy is that video quality has improved more in the past 3 years than since celluloid was abandoned.
Mini2 is perfect for places where you don’t want to draw attention
I feel like I’d be such great friends with you guys.
Thanks for hyping my mini 2 up!
interesting comparison.
Pretty neat and useful.
mini 2 is insane!!
That was cool. You two have a good chemistry.
The mini2 for that low price and the quality your getting is for real insaaaaaane! Good vid and test!
Knowing a little bit about photography let you recognize easily which is which, but that mini is unreal
Ok, it needs a RAW mode... but... :)
Shoot on stop under exposure if you are worried about the highlights are going to get blown. Use a polarizer as well.
Damn, the magenta in the shadows on the Mini 2 is really extreme
The first thing to getting that "cinematic look" is knowing what you're doing and using the proper equipment. A $60,000 Red camera isn't going to make you a cinematographer if you don't know about lenses, light, etc. But I am beyond impressed with the quality of the drones out there.
Bingo! Too much talk about cinematic look, even to a point people are taking about "cinematic photography"🤦.
Is there a wide-angle adapter for the DJI Mini 2? The image is soo narrow compared to FPV drones :/
Go GoPro mate
@@Sparringvids94 does a go pro have wings?
@@dkt6408 yup. Karma drone. I used to have one. Additionally you can mount the GoPro to FPV drones
@@Sparringvids94 are you a go pro salesman
You should be able to find an anamorphic lense somewhere. I know they make them for the air 2
What if you put filter on? Do you think that could make a difference? I just got a mini 2 so been watching videos to learn how to use it. Thanks
Very good and relevant video. Everyone needs to see this kind of content, well done.
I feel like I could start to see the differences by the end after you guys wen through detail by detail on distinguishing features of the video from each, but I wouldn't have been able to tell without the cues.
Smaller sensor = Darker shadows (but you can lighten up the shadows, 100Megabit!)
Why smaller sensor = darker shadows?
@@basquescout I think its because it can't capture as much light
No is not correct
On the mini thers a lot of processing added like increased contrast (from there the dark shadows) but also sharpening more colors
On the other drone they used the the flat profile (no sharpening, low contrast standard colors) which is better for post processing
There are an array of filters that you can use with the mini that make it just as cinematic
Thanks for another great video and considering you can buy 25 Mini2 drones for the price of 1 inspire2 its amazing what $450 can buy in 2020. I love the added zoom and being able to squeeze this super quiet drone into my DSLR bag makes it my new favorite for the everyday carry
All I learned from this is how important lighting is
So true
Yeah. Gods fireworks.
One very important point I learned that why my Gimble moves itself up or down sometimes is due to wind. Thank you for the point man.
Amazing! Did you make a video for color correction on mini 2?
Totally admit my bias because i just received the mini 2, relative to its' price, the quality of the mini2 is super impressive.
Just got DJI mini 2 for my birthday. Like it so much. Unfortunately the whole Amsterdam area is prohibited for drones :(
I asked my wife, who knows little about photography, videography color accuracy, etc.
Picked up the mini 2 for the price.
very fair comparison congrats...
6:05 "The Shining" haha
the intro was amazing
The mini 2 looks better in most of these shots, other than an overblown sky, its sharper, easier to get going & in canada no license, no permissions; just go. Also the inspire 2 makes everything look WAY over anti aliased (not a camera term i know) but it looks like an older cheaper cam because of it & the mini's sharpness just makes it look like a higher budget production result.
Nice one ☝️ i’m in Australia do you think if come to hollywood with my Inspire 2 and a set of X7 lenses that i would get some work?
Please compare footage between the Mavic 2 pro and the Mavic Air 2. Is there visible difference between variable aperture and fixed aperture drones and is the 2 pro only better in low light.
I like this shot man
I think, greater dynamic range in inspire 2 is the huge differences. Is it more obvious after graded?
Nice review BTW I'm getting my DJI mini 2 tomorrow Full of excitement 😁😁
I just got mine to improve my hiking videos, it's a cutie!
Is there any flir cameras available for the dji mini 2?
One beast of a drone, 4K and beast setting inspire 2 vs one mini boi
I thought the mini 2 has a range of 10km (32,800 ft), in this vid it lost signal at just 2000 feet which is just half of a KM?
As a real newbie, like never flown a drone before, I got my first drone yesterday and had my first ever proper drone flight and you guessed it, it was the mini 2 and the thing blew me away. So easy to fly like really easy. I did crash it into a tree but it was totally fine. Looking forward to leaning to fly it properly before buying the Inspire hehehehe. But loved it and thanks guys for the comparison. Actually made me feel good about my mini purchase, bring on more comparisons 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
What can you do to unsharp the mavic mini 2 footage? In finalcut for example?
First off I didn't know Ken block did photography! Secondly thanks for this review! I definitely would like to get a mini2 !
Why is the framerate choppy on most of the samples? Seems weird this would get to the final from these guys.
Already with squarespace and just subbed to you guys! Great video
the small drones are often oversharpened and sometimes have a ultra choppy image idk why... it sometimes loks like it records 15 frames, then a skip then another few you can see it at 5:35 too
Some ND filters for that Mini would up it’s game drastically.
Dave maze was a great addition to this channel!
