      As a kid in the eighties this was the first food show along with frugal gourmet that I ever watched. As a former line cook all these years later and a lifetime foodie I cannot thank you all enough

    I loved watching this growing up with my mom. I even had the honor of meeting Chef Yan about 10 years ago. One of the coolest and most talented chefs ever!

    I cannot tell you how much this show means to me. My parents and I would watch together whenever we could. I remember the times when my would yell out letting me know that Yan Can Cook is about to start, then I'd flop down in the living room floor huffing and puffing from running from who knows where lol. Greetings from the very tiny islands of Palau!

    Wow, when i was a little boy in the 80's i would spend friday nights with my grandparents and we would watch Martin Yan, Julia Childs and Justin Wilsons cooking shows on PBS, I just got hit with a flood of memories and a lump in my throat.

    Martin Yan is absolutely amazing learning skills from one place to another. This guy can chopping so fast and craving anything over a second! How amazing is that.

    Grew up watching this dude (and the other OG TV Masters).
    Yan Can Cook is 100% the reason I started cooking when I was 8 years old, and have spend 25 years BoH cooking.

    I remember watching this back in the 80's as a child on PBS or some other public access channel...suddenly i have flashbacks of shag carpeting and tube tvs with turn knobs that only had 13 channels on it.

      The new "cooking" shows aren't even really about cooking. The Food Network took over cooking shows from PBS stations, then abandoned actual cooking shows. I miss our Saturday morning cooking line up.

      yeah i found him too much of a showboat back then, now i see that he does his flashy stuff to entertain his live audience, and because he knows he has the skill to play around a bit while maintaining the precision in his technique, and making sure he never gets hurt doing it. respect!

    I made this beef and bean curd delight for breakfast this morning before watching Martin Yan today. But the funny thing is, is that it was essentially Martin years ago that brought my interest in the cooking processes of this kind, not entirely. I added a little bit of ground coriander and maybe a little more than this, although.

    I use to watch this guy when I was a little kid, I loved his personality! I would watch JUST for the show he'd put on, not even for the food or recipes (I was too young to cook at that time). So glad I found him!! 💖

    I remember watching this show as a kid! My mom LOVED this show. Back then, Chinese food wasn’t on every corner like it is today where were from at least. I remember my mom even having his book “Wok With Yan”...? I think that was the name of it.
    He was such a good teacher, even me as a little kid loved watching the show.

    This was on every day on our local PBS station in Denver at about 4PM, I used to watch it after school and loved every minute of it...this and Justin Wilson's show were on back to back.

      Emily Glambert My neighbours downstairs from me are Hong Kong Chinese too.. Every day at 4pm we listen to the lady of the house playing the most beautiful classical piano you can imagine. I could not ask for better neighbours, even though I havre accidentally flooded their apartment twice😳. 🇬🇧❤️🇭🇰

    Apparently people in China watch this in the 80s and 90s. A friend passing thru Beijing airport in the 90s and the customs officer was asking him if he was the Yan Can Cook, even tho the guy looks nothing similar to Yan😀
