Are these the old shows?...seems like martin never gets old :)
This episode originally aired in the early '90s (but you're right - Martin never gets old!).
Martin just turn 72 last year and I did wish him a Happy Birthday.
Black don't crack
Especially when we are talking of a show from the 60s
Then next we can watch Justin Wilson measure a teaspoon of salt exactly in his hand, I guarantee.
I did a double take, put on my glasses, and then reread the title. I'm glad to see that it's Hunan beef and not Human beef. I remember watching Yan Can Cook all the time back in the 80s.
Lmaoo i had to look twice as well like am i tripping
Same!!
Same here. I was a little girl.
Same here.
I'm probably the only one disappointed after reading it more carefully.
I miss cooks like this I grew up watching him these were the good old days
Check out the 80's hair styles 13:09 :D
Me as well......food channels are bad
Yan & Emeril were my favorites...
That’s exactly the reason why I’m watching this, too!😂
He always makes me 😃
If Yan can cook, so can YOU!... I love this guy... I remember growing up watching him cook on PBS after school... My brothers and I learned to cook because of him... We are now executive chefs and personal chefs because of our love of cooking... Thanks Martin Yan!!
Same thing here. I watched Julia Childs as a kid and also Yan!
Wow!
Martin, Julia and Jacques back in the 80s got me interested in cooking.
He taught me too just a home cook.
That's wonderful!
Human Beef with Broccoli | Yan Can Cook | KQED is a wonderful title especially with the coming apocalypse. Thanks Yan for the inspiration!!!
Ahahah I read Human too
Haha! Aw man, I missed it. Looks like KQED fixed the name.
Wow, I grew up watching this man!!! ❤😂😂
his sense of humor makes the show even better.
He also speaks English well and is very intelligent.
@@Carbabydoll I like his accent. It's awesome!
I'm native arabic speaker grow up in 🇱🇾 when I was 8 years old use to watch this show without understanding it and promes my self to learn English so I can understand , now I speak Spanish beside English thanks to this show
"Look how easy" he says while perfectly peeling a ripe tomato in 5 seconds with a giant cleaver.
Martin Yan is the man! When I first started watching cooking shows as a teenager, he was a staple......
Omg .. just came across this.. its so nostalgic.. use to watch this as a kid... crazy.. if yan can cook.. so can you. Lmao
Drinking game: every time he says "mahvelous".
This guy was ahead of his time. This was the only cooking show dedicated to asian cuisine. And he was so funny
My eyes aren't good as it was, I thought "Human Beef", anyhow one of my favorite cooking show when I was a kid watching on PBS.
My childhood is back baby!!!
Memories of staying home sick from school watching pbs and njn and seeing this man cook it up
The best part of being home sick was watching the cooking shows! Lolololol
Watching Yan cook on PBS back in the 80s with my Sister is a definite blast from the past. It's cool to find his cooking show on RUclips about 40 years later. Wow.
I love Martin Yan, used to watch him a lot when I was a teen during the 90's.
I watched Mr. Yan when I was a little kid. He was entertaining and informative. I watched him, and Julia Child. Mostly because we were pretty poor and seeing all of that food made me happy lol. Thanks for the nostalgia guys.

All I remember is him making the frog legs dance🤣loved this show
When I was in elementary school. Like 1st or 2nd grade, I would watch this guy's show in the morning before I had to catch the bus. No idea why but I loved the show.
In 2022 four dishes would be 4 shows. Love these old cooking shows!!! The best!!🥇🎎🧧
Live studio audience is the way to do a cooking show. It's a lost art
"What're you going to do? I really don't care." I'm so glad I found this guy! ❤
I'm so glad to have grown up with all the cooking giants as an older millennial. Martin Yan, Justin Wilson, Jeff Smith, Paul Prudhomme, and last but not least, Julia Child, and Jacques Pepin.
BLAST FROM THE PAST. He was a head of his time. I LOVE LOVE LOVE watching him. THANK YOU
I swear I thought that title said “human” beef” for a second.
Me too, was looking for this comment lol
I absolutely loved watching Yan Can Cook as a kid. When the youtube algorithm popped an episode up, I just had to watch it for old times sake.
This is why the 80s and 90s were awesome. Tv had charm, quality, authenticity and substance 😂
These episodes were filmed in a small shopping center near the house I grew up in. I would sneak around the back of the building and listen with my ear to the door. To small and shy to ever try to meet Mr. Yan, but I always loved these shows. This was decades before the Food Network, and years before any of the celebrity chefs of recent times. Thank you for putting these shows out. And thank you Martin Yan for teaching us all to make delicious meals, and to always have fun while cooking.
He is one of my favorite chefs! I use to watch him cook as a young lad. Nostalgic to see him now
Same!!! Wonder if he’s still around cooking?
Google it. I’m sure Google will know!
Watched this guy as a child!…. Taught me how use a knife/cleaver in a kitchen!…. Now I’m 50 years old!…. Haha…. What a mentor of mine!…. 💯
God I could do a whole YTP of just Martin Yan smashing garlic
80's style chinese food. Classic takeaway tastes!
I worked at a great Chinese restaurant in Pittsburgh in the late 70's. We had a dish called beef, pepper and tomato. Had a little onion and garlic and ginger in it and a tablespoon of finely chopped salted black beans. Over 40 years later I still make it. I can't find the salted black beans anymore so I buy a jar of black bean & garlic sauce to use. Great memories working there! Anyone else remember the Peacock Restaurant? It was in Mt. Lebanon.
no but i want to try that dish! Salted black beans??
You can still get salted black beans at some Asian stores. I see it here where I live in Florida. I would be willing t9 bet you can get it online or learn how to make it
I used to watch Yen 30yrs ago on the weekends like cartoons. He's still relevant
I tell my wife, "If Yan can cook, so can you!"
She just laughs and tells me to order takeout.
LOLOLOL!
sounds like u married a proper american chick....ie.useless.
Lmafo
lol
Nice try!
One of the conditions to play video games as a kid was to write recipes from PBS cooks. Yang was the toughest cause he was a showman. Laughed so hard, but a great teacher! This was a video that took me back like 30 years. So thank you!
Loved this show! He was so much fun to watch!
Oh wow. This is my childhood right here. I used to watch Martin with my dad when I was little. Thank you Martin Yan!
Thank you KQED for more episodes of Yan Can Cook every Monday and I absolutely love making some recipes at home.
Always love to watch Martin Yan. Don't Wok Away
I still use Yan's technique for chopping garlic. He was/is inspiring.
How did he do it so quickly, is he just smashing it with the cleaver?
Glad you're back posting more Yan!
I wish we had more celebrity chefs these days like Yan!!! Before I even had any interest in becoming a chef, I had fond memories of watching Yan can Cook!!!
I love it when he cuts and smiles at the camera.
Martin Yan again...What a welcome pleasure!0

I loved Yan Can Cook. Used to watch it all the time.
I literally taught myself to chop without looking because of Yan. He is a hero!
So many good memories watching him back in the day!
Was a child when this was on. Had no idea about cooking but loved how engaging he is. If Yan can cook so can you!!
The Best Chef Ever.
I remember before the cooking channel, food network, and iron chefs, there was this guy. OG cooking show for sure. Brings back so many memories.
Thank you for posting this show. I loved it as a kid and he is still very entertaining and endearing. A national treasure to be sure.
Before Jacky Chan was famous in America there was this guy.
Love this guy's sense of humor! Great cooking too!
I honestly think he's better than Gordon Ramsey. He's FAST and polite.
All i know is this show is marvelous
Glad KQED brought this here.
