"If Yan can cook, so can you" is synonymous with the epic "Bon Appetite" from Julia Child. Cooking shows from the 80's and 90's defined the industry and I Was There.
OMG, thank you! I remember watching Yan Can Cook on my local PBS station when I was a teenager. He's easily my favorite cooking show host ever. Bar none.
Now that I've become a pretty good Chinese cook it's fun to return to these episodes to validate what I'm doing. I always learn something new -- tomorrow, it's lettuce in my chicken soup. NEVER forget white pepper in fried rice! The suggestion to use Chinese characters in alphabet soup is over the top hilarious.
Martin Yan prepares Teriyaki Beef from old Kyoto with rainbow vegetables at 1:00 and Sweet and Sour Fish from old Hong Kong with pineapple friend rice at 10:10.
Healthy diet except for the sauces and salt! But delicious food and good for you! oh my goodness I’m craving Chinese food now! It’s my favorite food that and Greek food! I cook Chinese food a lot at home my neighbors will walk by my house and they just love the smell coming from my kitchen!
Yea cooking is fast after someone has gone and measured out every (sometimes fresh) ingredient into appropriate containers and will clean up said 52 containers and 20 pans and chopping boards for you.
Love Martin but this teriyaki recipe was not well thought through. The sauce was just wrong, from the quantities to the corn starch, and the vegetables were not "rainbow" as expected from the name.
If you guys say anything about Martin Yan being bad or something please I will report you and you should say something nice about this channel. Thanks.
He put the raw chicken wings in the broth for only 1 minute!!! From 21:00 to 22:00 There is no way the wings cooked in that time. If these truly were raw chicken wings (and not pre cooked ones) this is VERY DANGEROUS.
Ok, Social Justice Warrior, do the math. He cut up THREE WINGS, and when he's stirring the pot 10 seconds later (21:10) there are at least a DOZEN in the pot. Obviously he pulled out COOKED ones. #logic
@@kevinbullock8837 OK, Distinguished Professor and Michelin Stared Chef! This show is targeting complete beginners! And some of them might think that 1 minute is enough to cook RAW chicken wings and poison themselves and get seriously hurt or sick! And even if the other wings were cooked he now contaminated the whole pot with the raw ones. And I don’t know if Yan has the superior intellectual skills that you possess - but how do you think he remembered the 3 raw ones and distinguished them from the cooked ones?!?
This man isn’t just an ambassador for cooking, he’s an ambassador for the human race.

"Happy cooking!" is another great saying of this golden age of culinary tv!
GREW UP WATCHING HIM EVERY DAY AFTER SCHOOL, LOTTA LOVE FOR THIS MAN
These were better times, simpler times. If Yan can chill, so can you!

I may have remembered this from long ago. It's still with me to this day!
Chef Martin Yan is legend !
I think part of this was "Very easy to do." I love this guy though, most entertaining chef behind Gordon and Emril.

I've always wanted a recipe for Teriyaki Beef with Rainbow Vegetables. where can I find a link?
Can't use red snapper anymore because we fished it to extinction! It was my favorite fish...

That’s what I used to do when I worked in Chinese restaurant

Is he related to Stephen Yan?
He is Baek Jong Won of old times ~
lol 5:30
I miss those old-style takeout containers... its been in plastic for some time now.
I think it depends on the particular restaurant. One of them around me uses plastic containers, the other uses the old-style paper ones.
Yeah i remember that too in the Chinese restaurant but good times.
That thumbnail lmao
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hahahaha
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You ain’t no Chef Martin Yan! Chop put chop put chop put.
LOL, rainbow vegetable means something totally different today.
The alcohol in that sake was nowhere near burned off lmao

@@cristinamarierosado10 I know!!
he call that teriayki sauce??? and that beef is completely raw in the middle.
No season or episode number. ; _ ;
I think this is from Season 4 Episode 12 I am sure I will let them know.
Didn't salt the steak or vegetables. I'm certain my dog wouldn't even eat that.
Like I have my ingredients all ready for me to go like he does or like I have his culinary skills to cook in 28 mins like he does🤨
There is no way any of these were fully cooked. Also he never washed his hands. None of it looks good.

Dudes a good cook but let's be honest that fried rice was not done. It spent less than 1 minute in the wok
The thumbnail looks like he sharted and is okay with it.
HOW ABOUT SOME 'WOK WITH YAN' TOO??
