About Yan Can Cook
After receiving his formal restaurant training in Hong Kong, Chef Martin Yan immigrated to Calgary, Canada where he was asked to appear in a daytime news program to demonstrate Chinese cooking. The rest, as they say, is television history. In 1978, he launched the groundbreaking Chinese cooking series 'Yan Can Cook' on public television. Infused with Martin's signature humor and energy, Yan Can Cook has gone on to become a global phenomenon and has won multiple James Beard Awards.

Thank you so much for the subtitle. This is a good job for someone who want to study English. We can learn cooking skill and English and the same time. And Yan's English is very easy to listen.
I could listen to him talk all day...
@@kqed I can provide Chinese and cantonese subtitles. Do you need them? I've interest in yan can cook since I was a middle school student.
@@kairyokaku8607 We use a transcription service for our captions, but that's so kind of you to offer. Glad you like the show!
@@kairyokaku8607 What's the difference between Chinese and Cantonese?
@@williamrichmond814 so different.
Similar in pronunciation to the difference between Spanish and Portuguese.
Although written in Chinese, about 30% of commonly words are different.
Cantonese used in guangdong province and Hongkong in the southern part of china.
And also many overseas Chinese also speak cantonese.Particular in chinatown.

Awesome 👌

I liked that intro
i love how everyone always claps really fast
You really don't need a laugh track to make a show great
Anyone here from Uncle Roger?

If Yan can joke, so can you.

Chef version of Bob Ross
casually uses the word detrimental while preparing a dish
'I cut it slowly so you can see it' - proceeds to mimic and automatic firearm
It's insane how he never had tried sushi before and was inspired enough to showcase it on his show before it was even a forethought. He was definitely ahead of his time and had the foresight to see what sushi could become
Uncle Roger needs to collab with Uncle Martin
FUIYOHHHHH
is he related with wok with Yan?
No relation.
Not a fan but I do like his humor.
video is from so long ago that they're calling sushi "seafood roll" 💀
4:38 4:43
Oooooo, oooo- he chopped something!! Everybody clap!! Isn't he such a good boy?!! YAYyyy!!!
Lol- I've been a fan for decades. He takes a joke just fine 😁
Really, I've been watching Martin since his early years and it's always annoying when he pries an applause for his chopping anything...
It was his gimmick. Like Emeril with "kick it up a notch...bam!"
To be fair, cutting that fast without looking 50% of the time isn't an easy feat.
It's from over 30 years ago. Maybe just take it for what it was. Or you might be hunting for "racism" like a lot of people on this channel.
Came here to see Chef Wan's sifu...
Came here after watching uncle Roger Hayaiii
Meet the OG!
He. Forgot seafood broth
He didn't put in bamboo shoot, quail egg, and cashew nut in the last dish. I love his advocate for tofu though. Tofu is so underrated.
Agreed. There are so many ways to prepare it but it gets a bad rap.
Time time time 😔
who here after watching Uncle Roger + Chef wan?
Man he touched that raw chicken and still hasn’t washed his damn hands lol
There was no COVID19 yet that time.
I think there was.
Why use fake crab 🦀 meat when you have a real crab 🦀 lol 😂
just say tofu

Whatever happened to this guy? He fell off the face of the earth!
Show was produced in 72 and around that time he was in his 50s after the show stopped production I think he started a restaurant somewhere.
I think he works as a chef for google?
He's been a judge on Iron Chef America.
