Autonomous ErgoChair 2 Review - SIX MONTHS LATER (what I wish I knew)

- The ErgoChair 2 by Autonomous has been one of the most popular Ergonomic chairs this summer with everyone working from home. I made a review of this chair right before the pandemic started without realizing how many people were going to be buying it just a few weeks later. I wanted to make a follow-up review six months later with my thoughts on the chair and a few things I didn't realize until later that I wish were mentioned in the original video.

I would feel more like this was an impartial review if you weren’t doing this giveaway, honestly.
Hey buddy how much do you weigh. I am 200 LBS just wondering how it would fit to my weight
Ive had this chair for almost 3 years. Here are my findings:
1. At least on my model, it doesnt make snap sounds like yours, but it does have other random creaking sounds.
2. The seat cushion basically flattened out entirely over the 2-3 years. I have just received a replacement. Id recommend reaching out to them before the warranty expires and get a free replacement, even if youre cushion isnt doing too bad. You can always have the spare for when it does inevitably flatten out.
3. The back gets really dusty usually due to rubbing shirts on the mesh. It kinda acts like a cheese grater for your shirt and all the lint lands on the back.
4. The castor wheels are ok at first, but get worse over time. Buying a set of "roller skate" style wheels is the greatest upgrade for the wheels you can do, unless youre rolling on carpet.
5. I wouldnt recommend this chair for people over 200lbs. The mechanism may be rated for 350lbs, but the entirety of the chair is not, at least according to alot of reviewers. I myself weight 170-180, so it was never a problem for me.
6. The arm rests are fine for me, but if your expecting some foam padded comfort, look elsewhere.
7. The seat does not have alot of height adjustment, maybe 3-5 inches at most.
Overall, aside from the cushion being one of its downfalls, its a great chair that is pushing the 3 year mark for me without any real issues.
This is such a great comment. Thanks so much! Great tip regarding the seat cushion too, will have to utilize that for sure!
Wholly agree with 5. At 250lbs the cushion is NOT sufficient for long hours of sitting, after a while your butt will start to hurt and the pain will radiate through your spine. I will be looking for a replacement for mine soon
Thank you for doing a follow up review. Tons of chairs seem great during the honeymoon phase, but show flaws with time. That's why I find these reviews way more valuable than "I just bought this chair" reviews.
Yeah, it really does take a little time to uncover the important details. Thanks for watching!
With all the hype I'd never think this chair would have so many quality issues. This video was an eye-opener. Thank you
Glad I could help!
Thank you for this update video! I just ordered one of these today and I was curious about how it would hold up after long-term use. You answered all my questions directly and concisely and made me feel confident in my purchase. I appreciate the information!

I also bought this chair after watching your video. My armrests are super squeaky when moving left or right.
I bought some armrest memory foam pads from amazon to help with the hard armrests.
Happy with the purchase so thank you.
Nice solution! I might have to look into those too
which memory foam pads?
Can you send a link to the pads?
Just found your channel gotta say I love your personality.
I appreciate that!
loved that graphic and ding on the intro for the chair. very neat.
Thanks so much I’m glad you like it! I’m enjoying it too 😄
I was about to buy this chair because of this video, but after selecting hawaii as my shipping address the price went from $350 to $650. And it still says free shipping. I was told the price change was due to sales tax. I've never had that much of a price jump from any retailer.
I agree the price jump for me after vat was $100

Great video man, I’ve been looking at a new chair for a while and your video is super helpful
5'11" 240 lbs, I personally find this chair super comfortable, even with the relatively hard armrests, bought it partially on your recommendation and appreciate the follow up.
Thanks for sharing!
How is the seat cushion holding up for you? After reading several reviews online, the seat cushion is the only thing holding me back.
@@tomusn83 Mine's fine! I don't notice any difference and it's still the most comfortable office chair I've ever used, but I've seen the same thing on reviews so I might be out of the ordinary however I'm in this thing at least 10hr a day nowadays. Plastic's getting a little rattly in places but not in any way that doesn't feel sturdy and with headphones on the noise does not bother me.
@@vitalepitts can you elaborate on the rattle sounds? My main concern is that my current chair makes lots of noises as I change position which is annoying on zoom calls. Do you think I would have similar issues with this chair?
@@jakebuckingham9052 Pretty quickly I started hearing plastic noises, nothing crazy loud but definitely sounds from the headrest flopping around or the armrests moving. Nothing concerning sounding but definitely noisy because of plastic mechanisms
Pretty awesome review. At the time of writing this comment, I've had my ErgoChair 2 for almost 2 weeks now and can say that the back support is something you will need to get used to. I don't know if you or anyone else here who is reading the comments had a moment, when you unlock the tilt, lean back in the chair and then try to lock it in place, but instead fail to fully lock it and it ends up making this weird kinda cracking noise that sounds as if the little dents that hold the chair in each stage of your lean just scrape against the hook or whatever the inside of the mechanism uses for tilt locking. Not sure how to explain this, but just felt odd. Tried doing it again later worried that I might've broken the 450 dollar chair (Canadian price). So far it seems like nothing serious happened and the chair is okay.
That’s a strange one. I’ve unlocked and locked the back tilt several times and haven’t had that issue. I’m glad to hear everything is okay! And yes it also took me a bit to adjust to this chair. Probably because I was using such a bad chair for a long time before this. I hope you’re able to adjust to it comfortably
I got the kinn chair a few months back and my dad got the ergochair 2 and honestly they are both great! I've sat on the ergochair 2 a few times and i was actually really comfy and i was surprised at how much it helped me sit straight! This man's review is definitely the reason i made my dad get this one and he can never go back! Thank you Maneetpaul for the great review!
This makes me so happy to read! Thanks so much. I’m glad you are happy with it 🙏🏽☺️
I bought the chair after doing all kinds of research and watching videos (yours included) months ago. I personally have had significant problems with the arm rests because of how I sit when I'm more relaxed I lean heavily on my left arm and have had days where waking up my elbow is tender from the use of the arm rest the day prior. I also had issues with the seat. I felt like within a month the cushion gave out and if I was to lean one way or another I'd feel the hard plastic from myself bottoming out through the cushion. I ended up getting a replacement just recently (though haven't had opportunity to switch out yet) but it took months to get in touch with customer service and waiting for replies for weeks at a time.
Ah man, so sorry you had a bad experience! I've only had to contact their customer service once and they responded within a few days via email. I'm glad you ended up getting it sorted out, but it shouldn't have been so difficult. I hope the replacement is better!
Bro! Love the video and love that you added a Sikhi video, which I will be watching next. Love that you are incorporating Sikhi everywhere! Keep it up! Glad I found your content!
Thank you so much for all the support! 🙏🏽
The channel is a gem wish I found you sooner
Your support means a lot!
What’s going brother Maneetpaul. I just finished mantling my ErgoChair2 and it’s probably one of the best chairs I have personally ever owned, apart from my ergonomic chair at work. I can tell you what’s wrong with a few things you mentioned about the ErgoChair2 that I think I can assist you one. For starters... (1) The dust that chair is collecting is bc you have a carpet/rug in your space. (Solution): Consider swapping to hardwood or vinyl floors. (2) The click-clack noise your chair is making is bc the bolts are not properly tighten or manually tightened. (Solution): Consider using a power drill at a very low speed and then once the bolt slighlty locks into place use the t-shaped alley key tool. (3) You and I are the same height my friend... LOL! But thank God this seat offers various settings. (4) I have had 2 cervical fusions, and the the headrest works amazingly and provides extensive lumbar, and neck support. Other than what you mentioned good video man. Keep posting more!
Thanks so much for taking the time to write this and provide those suggestions! I really appreciate it and will have to try them, especially the one about tightening the bolts! Thanks so much for watching and all the support! 🙏🏽
@@Maneetpaul My pleasure, my brother. It’s nothing, but love.
Mine made noises on day one (the headrest was silent though). I tried adding silicone to pad some of the areas that were making noise - it didn't help. I added washers to all of the bolts as well as loctite. No use. I just sold mine the other day. The hunt continues. Also - mine was black / grey - the dust buildup was crazy fast on the lumbar support. The chair padding was also pretty thin and I added a seat cushion to make it feel like I wasn't sitting on a board.
Thanks for sharing your experience! That’s annoying that nothing worked to fix the nosies. I hope you’re able to find a chair that works for you!
Also THANK YOU for the clarification on the sitting position. I find myself sitting cross cross in my chair or cross legged a ton
So glad you found this video helpful! And yes, I sit like that all the time! Haha

@@David-tq9iy head rest is fine for when im reclining! its a tad low for my taste when im sitting up but i rarely sit back when im focusing

I regret not watching this video prior to purchasing this chair. I'm a college kid and could use all the extra discounts possible (for reference I have terrible back pain and now am doing school virtually otherwise my paycheck would not have gone into such an investment.) hoping this chair holds up! Also I am 5'10 and it works well with my height so far!
Hey, any thoughts? I am in your position before buying so worried a bit over long lasting quality of sitting at desk.
@@tomaszboril hmm. It’s alright. I really think I wanted something to help with my back pain and that requires an entire ergonomic set up really. The only real con I have with comfort and the chair is that I can’t tilt the seat. I think some chairs have better seats for those who need more pelvic support/lumbar. But it was definitely tall enough for me and wide enough. I like that I can change positions a lot in the chair, especially with how restless I can become listening to these 2 hour zoom lectures. So far my chair has held up, but I haven’t had it very long at this point. Hope this info helps!
@@Kem1492 Hey, how has the chair hold up? I was thinking of buying it
@@Jonathan-qz9td It has held up well, but I'm not too rough on it. My biggest issue is that the seat is slightly angled down and as a tall person that's uncomfortable. But I usually sit cross-legged anyhow.
@@Kem1492 how tall are you? Is it comfortable and has a good back support? would recommend? Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make sure it’s the right chair for me lol
Hi! I bought this chair after your first review. It took a while to arrive, thanks to Mr. Covid. In any event:
The Pros you list for this product I agree with. My cons are:
1. My left arm rest squeaks, but it isn't annoying
2. The cushion could have been softer, and I find myself having to stand sometimes to ease my butt a bit
3. The material for the cushion did develop 2 fabric balls on it last week, and it is less than 3 months old. I think this annoyed me the most.
4. The lumbar support positions don't seem to offer any unique experience for the different positions. Adjusting it completely up or down doesn't seem make a difference. I'm still trying to find the best setting for the chair though, so the verdict is still out on this feature.
Having said that, I LOVE my Ergo Chair 2! =D
Thanks so much for leaving your thoughts!! I’m glad you like the chair overall. I hope the pros outweigh the cons!
I've had this chair for a little over a year and honestly i had a super rough start with this chair but have come to love it. i ordered the Blue version and had to wait 2 weeks same as you. to which i got a previously opened box with a very obviously returned chair. deep scratches in the back shell, all the screws and tools out of the plastic packaging and to top it all off IT WASNT EVEN BLUE! i received the GREY version. and honestly i was so ready to return it.. but id been sitting on a wooden chair for nearly a month and just wanted something comfortable. despite all this im happy with my purchase. very comfortable and great for its price. (P.S never have short hair with this chair... your head will get stuck to it like velcro. OUCH)
Thanks for the video, fun fact: these chairs are made by a Chinese manufacturer and Autonomous does not make these nor design them, they simply put their branding on them and sell them for x3 of the manufacturing cost (Just like gaming chairs on the market).
Today I found out Autonomous sells this chair for £479 and after browsing more online I came across the same chair without the Autonomous branding logo located on the back from another UK seller for £260. So I figure the manufacturing cost of this unit must be around £100 mark.
That is a huge mark up for a product they do not even design or rights to.
Really wish there was some sort of option in between this and a Herman Miller chair which still had a neck rest. It's all dumb racing chair looking stuff that is awful.
Staples makes some pretty good chairs like the Hyken and Dexley, for ridiculously cheap prices.

I complained that this chair is totally ruining all my suits. The reason why you find all that dust is that the fabric is literally sanding your clothes. As far as the cusion is concerned, im a skinny dude an I can feel the plastic underneath... If you have more than skin and bones, this review is right. If you are skinny, this seat sux.
Ah man, sorry you aren't a fan! I hope you're able to find something that works for you! Thanks for sharing your thoughts so others can see before the purchase.
So, I am one of those people who are going down the rabbit hole of finding a good ergo chair that ticks some boxes. I sit forward a lot, and chairs with a forward tilt are few and far between. Also want a headrest. And, want a chair that sits you straight upright when you want, and doesn't have a lean back angle built in. This chair ticks all those boxes. It's the love / hate reviews about this chair that scare me, lol. This was one of the first chairs on my search journey that I put at the top of my list. But, after a lot of reading and watching, I crossed it off my list. Then I come back to some other vid's, and your videos, and think, I could probably live with the little issues. Except for seat comfort issues. And that is the biggest thing that I see people either have no issue with, or say it bottoms out, or they hate it for some other reason. Part of me says "what do you want for about $400, I'll deal with it", then another part of me says, "screw it, looks like $1000 is the only way to get a really good chair that will last". Then a 3rd part of me says, "no f'ing way do I feel good about spending more than $500 on a chair"....lmao. I'll probably be continuing on my rabbit hole of a search, or I could hit the BUY button tonight, who knows, lol. All I know right now is, It has been a while now of looking, and all I have for it so far is a headache, haha.
Anyways, thanks for your vid's Maneet, and for what it's worth, respect for replying to so many comments, I noticed that while seeing what commentors had to say. I see so many review type vids, that the creator never bothers to reply to anything beyond a couple of weeks. Like once they posted, they could give a crap. So kudos to you :)
Hey there! Thanks for commenting and your kind words! I was in your position last year doing so much research for chairs. I know the ErgoChair has a love/hate reputation. For me, I think it was worth the price I paid for it. I’m sure a lot more options are on the market now compared to when I bought this pre-pandemic. Best of luck with your search and I hope you find something that ticks all your boxes!

Good timing on this video, I'm looking to get one right now. You talked about the seat cushion, and its the biggest problem among other people that have it so I wonder if its so uncomfortable for others based on their weight? I only weigh 140 lbs, you dont look to heavy either so maybe it is ok...
Yeah some people love it, others hate it. Don't expect it to be super soft or anything like that. It's more on the firm side. But I prefer that if you are going to be sitting in it all day.
how’s it going?
I was talked out of getting this chair by someone who has it. I ended up getting a steel case leap on offer up. I love it. Just wish mine had a headrest.
@@Skypierced the ergochair 2 has a headrest 😉😆
Thanks for the very helpful videos. Am considering purchasing this chair but after seeing your 2nd video I'm concerned about the issue you had with the headrest. Can you give more details? Thanks!
Hi there! Yes the headrest got very loose for me. It's a bit annoying, but I wouldn't call it a dealbreaker. I have friends who have had this chair, and they don't have this problem, so it might have been the way I assembled it. I hope this helps!

The lumbar support is kinda painful on my lower back. I'm not sure if it's because it is my first week using it but it really does hurt my lower back. I feel that my upperback is pushing into the mesh too far compared to my lowerback and the lumbar support cushion is really pushing far into my back. Hopefully what you said about the pain you had will happen to me and it will end up stopping in the future.
Try adjusting the support to a different position if it’s bothering you a lot. It was a little uncomfortable for me but I didn’t feel any pain when I was using the chair for the first week
maybe your back needs to adjust. keep trying!

Nice!! That's really great to hear. Mine is super annoying haha
I have owned an ErgoChair 2 since April 2016 and I have experienced all of your gripes and then some. So the arm pads ARE foam, and I discovered this about 8 months ago when the sides of the pads inexplicably started splitting open. It is a dense foam-like material with a very stiff coating. I am also unsure if it is the result of the splitting but when I press down on the pads, it feels like there is a gap as if the foam has disintegrated, so now it feels like my elbows are resting on completely hard plastic. I keep buying cheap office chairs while longing for an Aeron, but I think I need to just buy one. $200-300 chairs that only last 5-ish years is NOT a good investment. Winning one for free? Yeah, sure. But I wish I would have just saved my money and bought a well-seasoned chair instead.
the headrest is nice though. don’t get one of them on the Aeron
@@katelovespizza yeah the headrest is the best part about the chair. But even that has issues. It never stays in position. You can get a third party headrest for the Aeron, but it's like another $150+

It is definitely on the firm side. I prefer that personally, but it will depend on your preference!
maybe vacuum the house more than the chair or get an air filter. I mean, its not the chairs fault that its dusty but it is a static making machine.
Yeah, I have a very thick carpet so I need to vacuum a lot because of that. The chair just naturally gathers all the dust.
What about the footrest for ergo chair2. Is that possible to be added? I like the idea of the footrest but do not see anyone talking about it.
There was no foot rest option for me!
@@Maneetpaul I really like these we ergonomic chairs but would like the foot rest option but not on the most budget version of their chair. There is another chair I’ve seen called Omgea that has a nice looking ergonomic chair with next to NO reviews online so I’m skeptical. Wonder what other options there are for a nice ergonomic chair with footrest like their other version from Autonomous.
That is surprising for your chair spring setting change noise, I have had the chair since April or March, and have not had this problem. Speaking as a male about 280 pounds whose been sitting on his chair a lot due to not being able to go out cause of recent times. What do you think is the cause for the sound?
Somebody else commented saying that some of the bolts might just be loose. There's a good chance I didn't tighten them enough so that's why it's making noises. I've been to lazy to try and fix it though haha.
MHTakaoka, how is the seat cushion working for you? That's the only thing holding back from this chair. I'm about 250 lbs and have read a lot of complaints about the cushion. Thanks.
@@tomusn83 I felt the bottom parts initially every now and then, but it was something I kept an eye out for because people have mentioned it before but now it’s something I never notice anymore even when looking for it. Cushion is good, hopefully mine wasn’t one of those better made, and the other had a lack of quality type of control thing. I got the Apple red color, if you’re one of those guys weary of the other colors quality control.
@@Maneetpaul after a while I did notice the sound when leaning back on the chair, but it didn’t not bother me too much, but now I know it’s there. I usually lean back slowly though so it usually never occurs.

Thank you for watching veerjee! I don't use the headrest too much unless I'm leaning back to relax or take a break. It works well. You can adjust the height of the head rest to your liking. I like having it behind my dastaar so I can rest it back throughout the day. It works well for that!
Hi, my headrest doesn't snap or just moves "1 by 1", it just moves without snapping. I just got it so I am wondering if that's normal or not. It's not loose however, it stays wherever I keep it.
I wish mine was like that! There’s a very good chance I might have put mine on incorrectly. Or maybe they’ve updated the mechanism for that. Who knows!
@@Maneetpaul After looking more into it, I know for a normal ergochair 2 should snap, however, maybe they updated the mechanism as you stated. The smooth movement for the headrest works out for me in the end so who’s to blame if it isn’t intentional.
Can you remove the arms of the chair
That’s my question too
Yes you can since most of the chair needs to be assembled
Same question
What lamp is that dude?
You can find it linked in this video! ruclips.net/video/f6po6D4mfcs/видео.html
Can you pinpoint where the clicking is coming from? I just got mine about a week ago and now I'm worried about the longevity. The squeaking I think can be fixed with some WD40 if it occurs but the clicking and loose headrest seem like poorer quality parts. How often do you adjust those parts on the chair? I also had a 3 day adjustment period where my butt hurt from the seat but after looking it up it is by design to give the user more support.
I think is from the mechanism under your seat. I sent a video and email to customer support and they are sending me a new mechanism. Initially customer support thought that issue was in the backrest. I am also annoyed about the clicking noise every time you recline your body. Even when I seat on the chair with all my weight I can hear the click noise. My chair is only two months old and I am also concerned about longevity.
Has anyone else had this clicking issue resolved?
Sir ye chair India me available nahi hai
I just want a chair that doesn't cost a fortune that will last longer than 4 months! Is that too much to ask for?! Every chair I bought for under $200 was garbage. Terrible lumbar support, cushions that flatten out after about a month or so of extended use, adjustable armrests that break. Like, wtf?! I've been thinking about getting the SIHOO chair for $200 but I dunno...it seems like buying a chair these days is a crapshoot.
Hi buddy!
Great video!
I'm really interested to get an Autonomous ErgoChair 2, a quick question for you, despite all of that disadvantages you notice now, after this months using it, you would still buy one today?
I'm undecided between ErgoChair 2 or Secret Lab Omega chair. But I guess ErgoChair will be more comfortable, correct?
Hey Paulo, i bought 2 of them in June, i sit in mine 8 to 10 hours a day. I can tell you that my legs and my back don't hurt anymore. I used to have a "gaming chair" and i could not stay sit for more than an hour in it. I can sit for any length of time in my ergo2. Would buy again even if it is not perfect. I'm 6'0 and 240 pounds.
@@269bp ok great to hear that!
Actually I bought the MyoChair from Autonomous too, I guess it will be good for me! Do you have any feedback about it?
@@PauloCesar-rj1jt From good to not so! Honestly, it's all really subjective. Your body type, shape, weight, definition of comfort, money you're willing to spend and if it fulfill your needs and taste. Even Herman Miller's chairs aren't perfect.
@@269bp this reply helped me lean towards buying the ergochair2 over a gaming chair. thanks bud
@@katelovespizza found you in a lot of RUclips vids about this chair. Lol. Just bought one too after reading/watching these helpful reviews.🙌🏼
how to buy it in the netherlands? i dont see a website for it
My lower back is still hurting when sitting in the chair...I am not sure if i should change the position of anything? Any guidance? Thanks!!
It took me a week or so to adjust. Definitely experiment with adjustments to get it suited to your body and needs!
I had it for a week, and the cushion was so uncomfortable and firm. I only weigh 130lbs and when I say on it, it bottoms out and I could feel the hard plastic.
Ah! Sorry you aren't a fan of it. Yeah, the cushion is on the firm side and I can see how it wouldn't suit a lot of people because of that. To clarify, I am not affiliated with the company at all or was paid to make any of my videos. I appreciate you watching and sharing your experience!
@@Maneetpaul I’m sorry I’ll edit out the part where I said that because I believe you. And to be honest the cushion is probably just firm because of my bone-y ass xD
@@Maneetpaul sorry if I came off as a d**k, I’m just pissed cause I can’t return the chair
thanks man
Happy to help!
great video. I also bought one, and I totally do not recommend it. The cushion is thin and not supportive. My right armrest makes a squeaking noise on day 1. It took them 3 weeks to offer an armrest replacement. Slow customer service.
Also, you have to keep your box if you want to return it. Otherwise, they will charge you 33% restocking fee.
Ah, sorry you had a bad experience. Thanks for sharing! It's important to hear things like this.
Where is the promocode? :'(
R-MANEET
Are you seriously blaming the chair for the dust?!?
I share a dorm with 2 other people, I normally pull all-nighters when working. After hearing everyone talk about loud cracking noises the chair makes. has me reconsidered buying one? Because This would be an inconvenience to me and my peers. what's your input?
I don’t think it’s that annoying! Only if you move around a lot. Depends how sensitive your roommates are to noises like that
mine makes the noise when I recline quickly or violently. If you are gently sometimes you don't get the noise.
is the lumbar adjustable ?
Yes it, check out my first video for more details. It's a bit stiff to adjust.
Tie a towel around the arms ... softens the blow
Not a bad suggestion!
Hi buddy how much do you weigh you said 5'6 is your height
Around 160!
@@Maneetpaul How do you feel in this chair now. You have it now for a while
Thanks, clicking : no go... sad. But avoided me a blind purchaise on this topic. Need absolute silence at night.
Yeah, this thing definitely makes some noises. Thanks for watching!
I find it kind of sketchy that you have a referral code for their website
The referral code is from the referral program that anyone can sign up for. I don't have any direct sponsorship or anything from the company. Hope that helps!
@@Maneetpaul Ah, ok, sorry :)
Could the chair be built without the arm rests?
I read on their site that they are optional
torn between this and a secretlab chair
Secret lab is too hard

Hello, do you know the min and max height of the armrests from the seat cushion? Thanks
Hey! I don’t know these off hand. Check out the website I’m sure it’s listed there!
@@Maneetpaul I checked their website, it states 11-14 inches but I believe this is from the bottom on the armrests and not from the seat cushion.
autonomous chairs qualiy emm meh, we ordered two, one of them is a joke, the poor quality and we just give up to put them together, the gear and the hole is not match lol, and it took one and half month to wait for shipping lol, wont take second chance to order anything on their website.
Ah, sorry you had a bad experience. I hope you're able to find something that works better for you. I appreciate you sharing your experience.
your instagram post says to "Share to your story" what does that mean? When i click share, it gives me the option to share to messenger, facebook, twitter and directly to someone.
Be sure you are hitting the share button on my Instagram post, not RUclips!

Lol..
I am returning mine because the cushion is too hard.
Sorry you didn't like it! Yeah, it is a little on the firm side for sure.
@@Maneetpaul have you tested the Kinn chair? I am thinking about getting that one.
What type of light is that on desk ? Thanks
It’s a ring light
