Hi! Thanks for the amazing YT channel. I'm just starting AIP for joint pains and weight loss. I have a ton of experience with restrictive diets so I'm not afraid of that part. But I hate to cook and that is a problem I have to rapidly get over. But I am already a soup master. And I think you may have saved my life with the hash recipe. OMG.. I can do so much with that. Thank you again. 💕
Thank you for doing these videos. Just found them. I was diagnosed recently with psoriatic arthritis, and sometimes I’ve just been skipping breakfast because I haven’t been sure what to eat.
Yay!! Soooo glad it's so helpful! You're welcome :). I love to add coconut milk to the smoothie instead of water sometimes (I leave out the avocado if I do that since I am getting fat from the coconut milk). If you are AIP elimination phase, just make sure the coconut milk doesn't have any added ingredients like guar gum. ;)
I love the hash brown and soup idea. im glad there are other people that dont use microwave. I do pancakes and I have reintroduced eggs. Im so glad. thanks for sharing.
You're welcome! Thank you so much for sharing - so glad that pancakes and eggs work great for you! Exciting! Yep, I've not been using a microwave for years - don't miss it at all :)
Yes! I love altering recipes. This is great; thank you for sharing breakfast foods! It is so helpful! I need to make more hashes, especially since I prefer non-breakfast type of foods! :) I love a smoothie/shake every morning, but it gets boring sometimes!
You're welcome - so glad it is helpful! I love how there are so many ways to change up hashes to keep them exciting - I too get bored with morning smoothies sometimes! And it's great to change things up anyways to ensure a variety of nutrients.
my morning smoothie is frozen blueberry, banana, moringa powder, cinnamon, collagen powder, tumeric, and then i add some liquid minerals: zinc, selenium, iodine, magnesium. i want to try to make a hash one of these days. looks so good.
Yummmmm!! Sounds awesome! Thanks for sharing! For sure - try a hash! I love to make a huge batch and freeze portions to have on hand for quick meals. :)
I eat a lot of somewhat sweet soups with coconut milk as a base for breakfast. Squash, sweet potato, beets... Porridges made from carrots, plantains, lotus roots, parsnips... Fried plantains
Great substitutes for cloves, cardamom, etc. and TONS of Vietnamese Cinnamon, and some Ginger Powder and a touch of Mace. I probably over-use cinnamon, because I love it so much. And a sweet potato with coconut oil, coated in cinnamon, touch of Mace. Yum!
Yes, I LOVE cinnamon so much! The muffin recipe I use calls for a good amount of cinnamon which is part of why I love it so much :). I feel the same way about sweet potatoes and cinnamon too - sooooo good! Thanks for sharing!!
Hi Maria! Great question! So for me, it depends on the time of year and how I'm feeling. In the summer, I have smoothies for breakfast more often (note: I always make sure to put a healthy fat like half an avocado in them and 2 scoops of collagen peptides for protein). In the colder months (starting into the fall through early spring), I rarely drink smoothies for breakfast - I live in the mountains in Utah and we get lots of snow. So I've learned to love soup for breakfast in the winter too. Also, at the beginning of my AIP journey, I struggled with blood sugar regulation issues to a smoothie felt like too much sugar for me (I limited fruit and stuck to mostly berries and green apples until my blood sugar regulation improved). Hope that helps! ❤️❤️❤️
Hi Shanna, thank you for your great helpful ideas. Can I have breakfast smoothies everyday instead of a meal? What type of collegen are you using? I see it's Vital Proteins but is it the the fish, cow or seaweed? I hope you know what I mean. I've been diagnosed with Hashimoto's and I'm lost in what to eat. I had serious acid reflex and I started taking probiotics and seems to be helping a lot. What do you consider I should take? Are there foods I need to avoid for my acid reflex? When is it a good time to re-introduce foods. Do I need to wait till my acid reflex is gone or can I start now? I have been trying the elimination diet almost 3 months. Please help. Thank you
Hi! I’ve had Hashimoto’s for 10 years and just found out that some of meds have lactose, gluten and other fillers that can affect us. I just recently switched to Desiccated Thyroid. I also did a food sensitivity test which highlighted all the foods I should avoid. This gets rid of the guessing game. Synthroid has lactose in it and I’m very sensitive to dairy. It wouldn’t have made sense for me to go dairy free if my medication has lactose in it. I recommend seeing a naturopath or functional medicine doctor to help you out. I’m also sensitive to celery, orange, cranberries and plums. Some AIP recipes allow for these veggies/fruits. Even Cane sugar, I’m sensitive to.
Hi Michelle! So at the time of this video, I'd use either cauliflower rice or broccoli rice - usually cauliflower rice. White and brown rice are eliminated during the elimination phase, but are a reintroduction. I actually do really well with white rice now. I usually eat it once a week or so, but I do still usually prefer cauli rice for some recipes.
Be careful about products that say grass fed and pasture raised. Those two brands of bovine collagen use cattle that go through feed lots and are fed grain in their last weeks. That's why it doesn't say grass finished. That would trigger me within an hour... Do you have any AIP collagen recommendations that aren't bovine? (Cause I can't find one that uses grass finished cows) 💜🌞🌵
So sorry to hear those trigger you Suzi! I know many, many people with autoimmune issues who take those brands of collagen peptides and don't have reactions. I do very well with them, so I haven't tried others. Another brand is Great Lakes, but it too is labeled "grass fed and pasture raised." It does not say "grass finished."
Hi Sara! Hmmm...do you remember where you heard/read that? Are you thinking of the whole cruciferous veggie thing when it comes to thyroid conditions? If so, I love this article which addresses that: www.thepaleomom.com/goitrogens-cruciferous-vegetables-thyroid-disease/. Also, here is another article from Dr Amy Meyers that discusses foods to eat for Hashimoto's: www.amymyersmd.com/2018/05/7-foods-you-should-be-eating-hashimotos/. It includes leafy greens, and spinach included. With that said, if your body does not tolerate spinach, that's a different issue. I feel great when I eat spinach, but everyone is different.
Spinach is on the AIP. There are many people on social media using #autoimmunepaleo and #autoimmuneprotocol who know nothing about AIP, and they are spreading misinformation...some downright harmful.
@@lorettapeters1 I've seen confusion around AIP foods to include/exclude too, but what Sara was saying is that she heard raw spinach was an issue for Hashimoto's/thyroid conditions specifically. She wasn't referencing AIP necessarily. Kind of like how some people say to avoid certain things if you have thyroid conditions even if you are on AIP and they are AIP compliant. With that said, where some confusion around AIP comes in is there are a few slightly different versions. I use Dr Sarah Ballantyne's AIP guidelines.
Be careful about where you source you seaweed products. The sea is getting so polluted. The waters around Washington State are not the best in my opinion. That's why hymalayan sea salt is so popular. It comes from the mountains that were covered by oceans thousands of years ago (when the water was clean). You really don't know what is in regular sea salt. 💜🌞🌵
Yes, great point! So the expert that I buy my seaweed salt from is extremely careful when it comes to sourcing - here's her more info: facebook.com/wildnutritionadventures/. Other than that, I use an organic atlantic kelp powder that was highly recommended to me by my NTA instructors.
Was it hard for you to figure out what to eat for breakfast on AIP??? What are some of your favorite AIP breakfasts??
I have hashimotos and find this diet difficult, especially planning meals and coming up with ideas. Any recipes for Aip homemade burgers?

Yay! I'm so glad! Thanks for letting me know Erin :)
Thanks. Breakfast has always been a tough one. I really like the soup idea.
You're welcome! Breakfasts are tricky. Yes - try soup! It's a great option :)
great advice
Are strawberries 🍓 today? I know they are a goitrogen and I’ve been terrified of goitrogens since my diagnosis!

There are 2 or 3 brands out there that are grass-fed and grass-finished. You can search for them, and they'll come up.
ok this confuses me as I've always heard and read that spinach is a no-no for Hashimoto's.

Carrot and coconut milk soup
