On Bill Burr's Monday Morning podcast, he always takes in and reads e-mails that comes in from his listeners that either trash him/ask for his advice etc. etc. This time; Bill Burr got an e-mail from a listener who apparently had a problem with Bill's past statements about Religion... Bill Burr and his friend Paul Virzi (another good stand-up comedian) address this guy and their own thoughts on Religion... (At the beginning of the video, he is finishing up reading off this listener's e-mail)

I love Bill Burr, he's hands down my top 3 favorite comedians for a variety of different reasons. I follow Bill Burr's MM podcast weekly and when I was listening to this part of the podcast while commuting I was like "YOOOOOO IT WENT DOWN JUST NOW" because honestly no one could have explained it better than these two did. I take the same belief that Paul Virzi has on Religion... Which is the BELIEF that there is a higher power, but I simply don't know nor can I prove these powers exist. I just believe it, simple as that. The fact that I don't go to Church every Sunday nor do I read the "how to be a good X-religion follower" book should NOT cause other "believers" to look down on me and scrutinize me for my actions and try and tell me how I should live.
Anyway, I wanted to share this with you guys because this speaks almost directly to my standing on Religion. If you don't listen to the MM podcast and have about an hour of free time at some point every week (whether you're commuting or anything along those lines) I'd highly recommend this podcast. You may be laughing for seemingly no reason in public and get all sorts of grills, but I'd say its worth it.
There are many people out there who look down on you/try and give you crap because of what actions you do (or don't take) while being a follower of a Religion and then have the nerve to get upset with you about it or attempt to cast you off as an idiot.
Whew, sorry... I had to get that off my chest, cuz' its been there for awhile. How do you feel about Religion/Bill Burr's and Paul Virzi's statements and thoughts in this podcast?
I'm gonna go get me some damn Apple Juice now.

Religion doesn’t keep people from being violent psychopaths, it just gives them really explicit reasons to be that way and not feel bad about it. Without religion there would still be murder, but murder hasn’t stopped because of religion. The reason people aren’t violent is because there’s evolutionary impetus to not be that way. We bring our morality to religion, and pick and choose what we want to follow, not the other way around.

religious stories are just a metaphor, don't take them literally. back in the day, people passed on information through stories. and by the way, religion is better than inter-tribal warfare, eg. ethnic cleansing, gang warfare, tribal clashes. it's time to drop the religion vs atheism argument or even vs agnostic and think about what is the best overall. not everyone is as evolved as bill burr and most of his listeners but keep growing
It's not just law that should make people behave, they should follow the same rule almost every human is born with "Treat others how you want to be treated yourself" but people are so fucked up they think don't care how others feel
Bill has the exact same religious perspective as me! I classify myself as agnostic. I've always said how the fuck do I know how everything happens? You give me undeniable proof of a deity (such as whatever happens after death), I'll think about believing and worshiping it. Not to say I don't find religion interesting. I'd go for a goddess, though, somebody who can be a role model for me- Athena, Diana, Ix Chel.

Paul saying that he's a theist confuses me when he has an atheistic mindset. Do you believe in a Deistic God? Or some other God like Cupid? Define the God you believe and then talk about it.

I don't know why people think "just because they do good (in their eyes)" that they're going to go to heaven when they die anyway. If people used the great gift of common sense, they'd be able to realize: why would God put you on earth first, allow you to suffer and then...huhhuh, if you PROVE your worthiness, come on up!? God doesn't need you up there! Think of this: God would have just had to make perfect automatons without choice to do his bidding in heaven without question and use the earth as a heavenly zoo to watch his creation of animals without any endangerment from mindless predators! *Everyone is not going to heaven folks, no matter how good the deed...truly read YOUR Bible, and see for yourself.
And you cannot forget one minute in one verse the god of the bible is a god of war, and he is of peace in another verse. Let's look at all of the bullshit for what it is.

It’s ridiculous how much americans love profanity and blasphemy, although they claim of being agnostics, atheists or shallow deistics. If Jesus is not your God, why trash his name daily or shit on his teachings? Can’t you just ignore everything related to it and be free of all of that. You seldom hear blasphemy or profanity adreessed to other figure heads, representing islam, buddhism or satanism, for that matter!

yeah, no one goes to hell because they aren't baptized. And babies don't go to hell anyway. Baptism is for already saved believers. Not a requirement for salvation; which is to believe on the Lord Jesus. Babies can't do anything that.
