Nothing in life is guaranteed but death itself, so let's not devalue 76 long years of living, because many weren't fortunate enough to make it to that plus 76 is the US life expectancy as of 2021.

@@isabellind1292 I just feel like it devalues such an age, it's like he didn't live up to some unrealistic expectation that person had in mind, which is very naive. It's sad that Richard had passed on and I feel for anyone close to him. It's a privilege to even reach that age especially in this crazy world we live in. We'd all like to live much, much longer than that but unfortunately it's not guaranteed no matter how well and healthy you've lived.

I couldn't understand why and once I had the opportunity to exit the room and meet him he said that he has a huge collection of dolls and that I reminded him of one of them and nothing would make him happier than to buy me dresses. He gave me a huge hug, wanted nothing in return other than to see me smile and I never saw him again. He touched my heart with his beautiful spirit and pure generosity and I will forever remember the love he showed me that day.

I don't know why but when I heard that Richard Simmons had died I became profoundly sad and actually started to cry and even now as I write these words I can feel tears in my eyes.
I have never meet Richard Simmons and never really seen much stuff with him but I have know about him ever since the 1980's and I have seen him in movies, shows and a couple of talk shows over the years.
I live in Denmark and his shows and videos has never been available here on tv but still he is/was know by a lot of people.
I am a 51 year old guy and still I found myself so sad because of Richards death and it has really affected me.
I think it is because Richard Simmons felt like such a kind and truly, really truly good person in a world filled with bad things and bad people and even though he was loud and flamboyant,he never seemed fake or annoying and I really believe he truly cared for other people and he had such a kind and happy nature and he was the kind of person one would have loved to talk to and sit down and have a cup of coffee with and I also have a feeling that he was properly a very very good friend to have.
Just imagine an old guy like me who listen to Heavy metal and Black metal and live a life full of Horror films and Literature and plays video games and old fashioned paper based RPG's like AD&D and such and collects action figures, finds myself in tears over the death of a person I have never meet.
I guess that shows what kind of a person Richard Simmons was and how he affected the people around him.
Richard Simmons I hope you may rest in peace and that you have gotten the reward of heaven that you deserve for having been such a remarkable and kind and likable person.
    I will never forget you.

Yes, I remember letterman making fun of him. It always bugged me that he let him but that was Richard. I think back in those days I thought he was a bit ridiculous but I could also see he was, well, just a good guy. These days, people are a lot more accepting of different expressions of masculinity and femininity and I see that Richard was just being Richard well before the world was ready for him. He was a force of nature for sure. I'm sad he's gone.

I can say the same thing, being a teen in the 80's. It wasn't until just several years ago, long after he left the spotlight (he may have been in "recluse" by this time), that I saw a vid taken on a tour bus of Hollywood homes where the tour guide said that Richard would occasionally come out of his house and visit with the people on the bus, which he did for them, too. He was the exact same person he is on TV, no celebrity persona, and he took time for pictures and what stood out was he took time to speak to every single person on that bus. I ended up searching for and watching more vids of him and about him. One thing became clear: he genuinely cared for every single person he met. This individual who was the butt of so many people's jokes, including mine, had a genuinely loving heart and a kind soul. That's a rare quality in people. I watched the vid where Howard Stern made him cry, and that wasn't entertaining, it was mean. RIP Richard Simmons, a man who found success simply by spreading kindness.
