I am convinced that Richard Simmons was an earth angel while he was here. He was sympathetic and kind to plus-sized people without lying to them about the dangers of carrying too much weight and living a poor lifestyle. Unlike the other “celebrity fitness gurus”, he walked his talk by working directly with overweight people who reached out to him for help and encouragement.
This man was the first to be honest about the “secret” to weight loss (portion control and exercise), and he was the first to make exercise for EVERYONE, regardless of age, shape, size or gender. He was also open to his own struggles with his weight that he fought his entire life, which made him more relatable than the other “celebrity fitness gurus” who were slim and fit their entire life.

I'm here because we chatted a bit in the comments under one of Richard's new music uploads!!
This video you made is so well done! I am glad that we crossed paths on that video, and now I get to watch this one you've made! Btw, the top is perfect! I believe it would be 100% Richard approved! ❤ This video you've made has given me a boost to keep pressing along on my wellness journey! ❤ I have subscribed to your channel. 😊
The interview at 23:08 speaks to my still pained inner child so loudly, and it still speaks to me as a 35 year old woman. Richard has been a huge part of my life since before I was even born. My mom, her sisters, and my grandma all did the Richard Simmons workouts through the 80s and 90s, especially the Reach vinyl album! My grandma had so many vhs tapes of his, and we would do them together. I was always a heavier set child, and bullied for it. So seeing Richard's tapes with all body sizes, shapes, colors, genders... it spoke to me! I enjoyed these workouts, and I still do! Now I'm 35 and overweight (lots of rollercoastering over the years due to hormonal issues, and injuries), but since I re-began my weight loss/lifestyle change journey a little over a year ago, I've lost 60 pounds!!! I do a lot of Richard's workouts that are here on RUclips. Doctors recommended me to get bariatric surgery, but after seeing what a couple family members went through I decided that wasn't for me. I watch portions, drink more water, and move more now. 😊 I do Richard workouts because they're fun, I can modify, and do them even on high pain days.
Thank you for reading this, and thank you for this informative and inspirational video!!! ❤ You did a wonderful job!

Thank you so much! That interview makes me cry because it was me! So many of us that were fat kids can relate to that. After a day of being bullied at school, food was a comfort for so many of us when we got home. It never judged. I’m so glad you are on your journey and this has motivated you a bit more. There is something about him that does that. I only hope to inspire a fraction of the people he was able to. If you ever need encouragement or motivation, please reach out! Thank you for subscribing! It means a lot to me!

I had the pleasure of meeting Richard decades ago as an obese teen. I went to his studio in Beverly Hills and at the end of the class he took the time to personally come to the back of the room, gave me a kiss on each cheek, and offered sincere words of encouragement to not give up; that I was going to make it. (He saw me sweating and struggling to complete the workout).
I have been on the journey of healing from my food addiction for several years now, but the moment when this sweet soul [Richard] paused to acknowledge my existence; to let me know I was SEEN as a beautiful young person and not just a “fat kid” evelates him from “Fitness Guru” to HUMANITARIAN in my opinion.
What a spectacular, moving and respectful tribute. I hope somehow he got to see it before he passed. Great work!
    RIP Richard . . . well deserved.♥️♥️♥️
