  • Mom’s Bread Pudding
    7-8 slices thick bread
    4 Tablespoons butter, melted
    1/2 cup golden raisins, optional
    4 eggs
    2 1/2 cups whole milk
    3/4 cups white sugar
    1/4 cup brown sugar
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/4 teaspoon allspice
    1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    Preheat your oven to 350°.
Spray an 8“ x 8“ baking dish with nonstick spray. Cube your bread into approximately 1 inch cubes. Place your cubed bread in your sprayed baking dish, filling it all the way up. Drizzle the bread with the melted butter. Sprinkle the raisins over the bread if you are using them.
Using a blender, combine the eggs, milk, sugars, all the spices, and vanilla. Blend until the sugars are dissolved. Slowly pour that mixture over the bread cubes, gently pushing the bread cubes down into the milk and egg mixture. Allow to soak for about 15 minutes.
Bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until the top springs back when lightly tapped. It should NOT be dry. Allow to cool slightly while you make the sauce.
    Vanilla Cream Sauce
    1/2 cup white sugar
    1/2 cup brown sugar
    1/2 cup butter
    1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
    1 teaspoon vanilla
In a medium saucepan, bring the sugars, butter, and whipping cream to a boil and simmer for one minute. Remove from the heat and add the vanilla. Spoon your bread pudding into individual bowls, and drizzle with the vanilla caramel sauce.

My mom was a waitress and she brought home the old bread and sweet rolls and put them in the freezer until we had enough for bread pudding. We were a family of 10, so it took a lot of bread type items. I always loved it when we had more sweet rolls than bread. I'm 77 years old and this is a fond memory.

Try using Great Value Brand Texas Toast at only $2.12 per loaf. A restaurant we love makes an award-winning pecan bread pudding that is addictive and they use Texas toast. To save money I use a loaf of Walmart bakery French bread. If I am making it the same day I buy the marked down loaf that expires that day. Less than a $2 for a loaf. Another award winning chocolate bread pudding that a chef used to make at a local recipe used French bread. I have that recipe

My momma passed away almost exactly a year ago, on October 18. She loved her some bread pudding! I got teary eyed when Tom said he wished he could have his mom make bread pudding just one more time for him…I totally understand those feelings, I’d do anything to share any of the things we loved with mom again. I miss her so very much sometimes it’s all I can do to not just crumble into a heap of tears! They say time heals all wounds, clearly I’m gonna need more time. Thank you for reminding me to make the bread pudding she enjoyed so much, I know it’s very yummy stuff, and that vanilla caramel sauce is amazing on top!!

Hey Tom and Melissa. Greetings from Edmonton Alberta.
I love bread pudding. I grew up on a real meat and potatoes diet as well, my mom was a Registered Nurse and worked lots of odd shifts and my dad who was a mechanic, cooked a lot of our meals and he started as a cooks helper at age 13 in a lumber camp in Ontario to help support his family when my grandfather lost his leg in 1944. He was a good solid cook and this was the kind of thing he made. I learned from him my basic cooking skills and had a good grounding. Your channel is very much like that. A good grounding in good solid home cooking. And I love the “waste not want not”approach to Tom’s cooking. 🇨🇦🇨🇦

I am a Bread Pudding junkie. I made your version this weekend and really loved it. I tried to find Brioche bread to make it with but resorted to using g Brioche Hamburger Buns which worked perfect. I really like the step of pouring the melted butter over the pan before baking, it added a nice complexity and crunch to the bread on top. The recipe I usually make has 1/2 cup shredded coconut and the same of chopped pecans (equally as good as your Mom’s recipe). The Vanilla Caramel Sauce was a wonderful addition and it reminds me of the sauce I make for Sticky Toffee Pudding from Scotland. The leftover sauce would be perfect over a baked apple or ice cream too. As a side interest when I lived in London it was called Bread and Butter Pudding and served with warm thin custard sauce over it (As most their “Pud’s are). I learned Golden Raisins in the UK are called Sultana’s.

I made a pineapple bread pudding once just as an experiment. Everyone loved it except me. My mother was very adventurous in the kitchen. She made what I’d call semi-exotic dishes. Nothing weird. I remember one time my father sat down at the table and said, “Mary, just once can we have plain old meat and potatoes”. I love simple, but I have to tell you, my mother was a fantastic cook. She made me pickled pigs feet at home because I absolutely love them. Much better than store bought. Haven’t had them homemade since she passed away. I’m a very good cook, but an excellent baker.

I have I have wanted to try bread pudding for years, but could never find a fairly easy recipe I was so happy to view this video! I wrote this recipe down as you made it, and I was putting it together within the hour . This recipe makes a delicious bread pudding and the sauce is just to die for! Next time I think I will leave out the raisins and add a few chopped nuts instead. Also I'm thinking of adding a little bit of sweet liquor perhaps an Amaretto to the sauce at Christmas time just to give it a little bite or perhaps I will simply leave it as is because it tastes So Divine. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful recipe I have so enjoyed this channel and subscribed as soon as I saw your first video. Keep up the good work! Watching one of your videos is like being invited over to a friend's house for coffee and an afternoon visit. Thank you again.

This brings back such great memories! I grew up on a farm, and my mother frequently made bread pudding. She used whole cow's milk, and whatever bread she had: sliced bread, rolls, and even leftover buscuits. She added raisins if she had them. She canned lots of fruits, and there were times when she added chopped apples, pears, peaches, or pineapple. My precious mother would be 105 if she was still living. She seldom measured ingredients and rarely used recipes, but she was an amazing cook. When people asked her for a recipe, she would tell them that the next time she made the dish, she would measure what she put in it, and she would write it down. Sadly, I only have written versions of a few of her dishes. Tom, thank you for sharing your mother's recipe. I look forward to making it. You and Melissa are such a joy, and I love your recipes! May God bless both of you. ❤

We also seldom had desserts on a regular basis, but when we did, it was either apple pie, Mom's fudge, or bread pudding with hard sauce. They were such a treat! Thank you for a great video.

Bread pudding was such a treat in our home. 7 children, parents etc. We lived on a farm in Va. Our mom was very progressive and sweets were only allowed maybe 1 x a week. She knew sweets were not healthy everyday. Fruit was okay, bread and homemade butter✔️for a snack after school. We went out into the garden with a salt shaker and ate raw vegetables and loved them.

This brought back so man😅y memories when I was growing up. My mama always topped it with a sweet meringue. I also loved mine cold and I sometimes poured a little bit of milk and sugar over it. Never heard of caramel topping until I moved down south here in Tennessee.

Thank you so very much for honoring your mother by sharing this recipe! Regardless of our family history and socioeconomic status, many of our memories are connected to foods and meals. We used to have specific regional and cultural cuisines, but with migration, more affordable transportation, decrease in family farms ane diversity in employment, television, and social media we are enjoying foods beyond what our parents ate! Aren't we lucky to have both our family heritage foods AND such a diverse variety! I so enjoy ALL the recipes you and Melissa prepare and share! God bless you and your family and friends!

Hi Tom & Melissa! "Thank you Mom" for this recipe. I never had bread pudding until my Mom's neighbor was looking for day old bread and I asked what she was making. She explained, made it and brought it over. Wow, I was really impressed in the flavor. Funny thing, just today, I had some day old bread and thought about making bread pudding. This is just perfect timing. My Mom always used golden raisins. Thank you so much for this recipe today and the great memories it has brought back to me. I appreciate the tips and tricks you give us. Have an awesome day and thank you Melissa for posting the recipe. 🥰

My grandmother made bread pudding a lot with left over biscuits and loaf bread. She would use any kinda bread, dense left over cake. She would vary her add in on what she had such as raisins, prunes, dried apples or peaches. She would do a special treat and add chocolate chips. This is such a fond memory. Thank you for bringing my childhood memories.

She lives alone and most dessert recipes make way too much for one person. I know I am blessed to have my mother who will be 102 yrs old on Veteran’s Day. And yes, she still cooks and gardens! 🙏 I enjoy your cooking channel, especially the comfort food recipes.

I am tickled pink to have found you have a bread pudding recipe! I love bread pudding but didn't know how to make it and couldn't find it in the store anywhere. I did what you said and made it with hot dog buns and it came out beautifully and I was just shocked that the caramel sauce turned out perfectly as well. Im in my early 50s and was never a very good cook because I was never really taught how. And had a terrible time coming up with ideas but now I've been noticing that I don't react well to any processed or fast food and so im cooking everything at home now and from scratch and it's such a blessing to have found your channel your patience n describing what is needed and how to mix and cook the recipes is top notch along with your wife's filming skills. I downloaded so many of your videos for my collection. You are my number one go to among the you tube channels. My kids are shocked at what I've been cooking and baking. I told them I have a RUclips culinary school degree and tom and Melissa are my favorite teachers 😅 and also said if RUclips was around when they were children they would be a lot heavier than they are now 😅 thank you so much for your channel 💞 I look forward to every new notification. Congratulations on your subscribers award. God bless from northern Colorado 😊

As a kid, I was not a fan of bread pudding at all, didn’t like squishy bread foods. As an adult, however, I love the stuff. I do still prefer to eat the outside edge because it’s less wet, but I’ve come to appreciate it for what it is and the memories iit generates.
