  • Cream Cheese Danish
    2 tubes crescent dough sheets
2 - 8 oz. blocks cream cheese, softened
    1 1/2 cups sugar, divided
    1 egg, separated
    1 tsp vanilla
    1 tsp cinnamon
    Preheat oven to 350°.
Stir together 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.
Prepare a 9x13 baking dish with non-stick spray.
Press 1 sheet of crescent dough into the bottom of the dish.
Using a mixer, blend cream cheese, egg yolk, 1 cup sugar, and vanilla. Spread this over the crescent sheet.
Place the second sheet of crescent dough on top of the filling mix.
With a fork, whisk the egg white. Brush some (not all) of the egg white on the top layer of crescent dough. Sprinkle the sugar/cinnamon on top.
Bake at 350° for 15 to 20 minutes.
Note: You can eat this warm as soon as it comes out of the oven. My preference, however, is to chill it in the refrigerator for a couple of hours before cutting and serving. This keeps the filling from running out once it has been cut.

"Waste not, want not" My mother grew up during the Great Depression and she wasted nothing. She scraped off the butter wrapper to get all the butter. So many things she taught me and my children. Daddy said she would pinch a penny until Lincoln squealed. She was not miserly, just frugal. She used the money she saved on food to buy extras around the house. Mama and Daddy LOVED this recipe! Growing up, Mama would add a can of pie filling sometimes before adding that top layer of crescent rolls. And she would put the whole egg in the cream cheese filling and just sprinkle powdered sugar over the top (she wasn't much for cinnamon). Use whatever flavor fruit pie filling you like. My favorite was always strawberry or blackberry. Hers was cherry or peach. Daddy's was whatever he could get! 😂 But ultimately just the cream cheese alone is best.
