My great grandma made it with all kinds of scraps, biscuits, donuts, white bread, raisins and she cooked her custard before pouring it over the bread, when done she put a light caramel sauce to spoon over it. This brought back memt. My kids wouldn't eat it so never tried to make them, especially when l sad bread pudding. I was born in Alabama. You ate whatever was cooked and you appreciated it. Kids today missed out on a lot. I hope you enjoy it.😊
Hi Mrs Donna I am a bread pudding lover it look delicious it a pudding not a cake I was streaming at the tv it's right 😂
It is supposed to be custardy and cakey 😊!!
The bread pudding looks great like my great grandma’s and the consistency is correct❤. Great job!
Looking amazing, I love bread pudding
Never baked this beard pudding. But was looking forward to doing so. It is more dryer in the middle not a pudding type bake. I will bake it the way you did. I will see what comes out . Thank you mrs Donna.❤❤❤❤
❤ P.S. my friend, who is a Public Health Inspector, and I love that you are the only one who cares and educates your audience to wash all can foods before opening the can. 😊 However, he makes everyone remove the labels, too, before soaping & thoroughly washing the entire can. He says nasty things can hide under the label. 😮🙃💕
I use condensed milk, and Evaporated milk also. All spice even better. And Coconut milk. From Puerto Rico.
Honestly, eating anything out of a can is bad regardless of the outside…if you really wanna keep it a buck…I promise you the restaurants don’t clean ANY CAN👀 so probably wanna stop eating out in general. IJS.❤❤❤
Absolutely. I've never heard anyone else mention that, either. Very good advice.
Mice and rats spread leptospirosis. I'm a doc. Saw a case early on in my medical career. I also appreciate the cleanliness. Probably shouldn't admit this but I back off on the milk a little and add a bit more sugar and Jack Daniels.
My Grandmother aka (Big Mama) made her various Bread Puddings with biscuits, donuts, cinnamon rolls, yeast bread rolls, she cooked her custard from scratch she also made a caramel sauce she also added walnuts and pecans at times. Everytime she made Bread Pudding you can taste the various flavors and she along with her grandchildren churned the butter 🧈 as well, precious memories!
Yes it will be soft it to me it is better when cold
@@kathyjones2104🎉55gb😊
Yummy I bet it was delicious.
OMG! What an impeccable woman your grandmother is along with being a fabulous baker & cook for your grandmother to make her own custer by scratch 😋 & churn her own butter WOW. I bet she would put Julia Child to shame. You're blessed to have beautiful memories of your Grandmother.
I was thinking about making a bread pudding using leftover cinnamon rolls I have on hand!! Thanks for mentioning your grandmother’s idea!
Ms. Donna you did a beautiful job.Thats exactly what bread pudding looks like. My oldest cousin who is 100 years young still baking the most delicious bread pudding. She said your bread pudding looks good:😋job well done👏🏾Blessings to you❤
That’s exactly what the texture supposed to be.. moist on the inside and “custardy”. Looks soooo good❤
Her husband is so funny. He ‘nose’ when the food is ready. He magically appears.
Gon' Donna. you did his/ Taeha's. Grandma PROUD...
You made it excellent 🙌🏽 it looks Delicious 😋
I love BREAD PUDDING...
YOU GO GIRL...😋😎
You did a great job making the bread pudding Miss Donna. It was so wonderful and sweet that you made this at the request of one of your viewer's in honor of his deceased mother. 💗
Lol y'all's reactions are so hilarious and innocent! We love bread pudding in the south and you have it spot on!! The texture looks on point!!
.
😊
Yes, it’s supposed to be soft and moist in the inside. It looks good!
Bread pudding is one of those desserts where the texture on the inside is different than a cake made with leavening agents like baking powder or baking soda. The milk is what softens the bread as it sits causing the bread to have a spongy texture and consistency that results from absorbing the liquid.
After the bread pudding is baked , the consistency will be soft but firm and moist on the inside due to the wet mixture that was used to soak the bread. It can be served and eaten warm or cool.
Your test for whether your bread pudding is done enough is to simply test the middle of the casserole dish with a wooden toothpick, which should come out clean when pulled out. Just like when checking pumpkin or any other custard pie.
We use all kinds of leftover breads and rolls, even whole wheat or artisan bread (as long as it's not garlic bread)! I put a handful of currants in just before it goes into the oven. Wonderful with half-and-half poured over.
It's perfect! You did it! To God be all the glory! Blessings !
Amen!
Yes Donna! Looks like my grandmas minus the nuts. The apples is new to me too. Grandma just did raisins. Good job!❤
This is exactly what bread pudding looks like. You did a great job
I can't imagine not having had bread pudding! I absolutely love it! The texture is usually soft or mushy.
You did a jam up job.
I always loved bread pudding of all flavors; but as a child we did not have it with nuts, however we did have raisins every once in a while. This looks delicious and I want to try it soon! You did a wonderful job with
GREAT!!!
Look so good. Can't wait to make.
You did a great job. I wish I had some!
Love bread pudding. Everyone has their special touch when it comes to bread pudding. Texture soft and moist. You did it, Sisstar!
I think you did a great job 👏
Your bread pudding looks perfect! It’s hard to believe your have never had it before! Great job - I’m sure Taha is very happy
I absolutely love that you are very clean with your cooking and that you don’t have an animal in your house or kitchen while you are cooking. Thank you again for that.
One of the best things about Bread Pudding is that you can take the basic
idea and make it to your own taste.
I do make Bread pudding. That Exactly The Same Recioe my Mom use To make except the Apples. So that's New for me but I'm gonna Try it fr.
My mom always stated that you could put whatever you wanted, but she always made it with the golden raisins as she always had them on hand. She would make it whenever bread got stale in the house which actually wasn’t as often as we liked 😊
You are spot on, the firmness is perfect not suppose to be like a heavy pound cake, its perfect as long as skewer came out clean! You rock Donna! Love Donna from Elizabethton TN
Oh my I haven't had this in years. Looks delicious 😋 and Hubby's reaction is priceles😊
You can’t help it but to love this women! She is so sweet! She so sweet to try these recipe that people are giving her to try! I love it here!
I have had bread pudding in Louisiana and they had a rum sauce over it but the pudding itself was firm. It was delicious.
This looks delicious. I make bread pudding all the time and there are so many ways to make it. You did an excellent job for the first time.
My grandmother showed me how to make it back in the 60's, and I use to make it at KIng's Tavern, place I use to work at, for tourist. Made a whiskey sauce to pour over it too. Delicious.
Love the Rum Sauce
Hello There Precious Child!!
As a Sister in Christ,i came across you by accident, however it was Orchestrated by our FATHER, as i needed something real,as you!!! You are a Breath of fresh air!! Thank you for having your channel.i am BLESSED!!! I do make bread pudding(old school) you did well!!! Good night!!😉🙏
I think it looks perfect and yes it's supposed to be a little "mushy". Bread pudding is definitely an old school southern dish. When you grew up with it on the table at every potluck it's hard to believe everyone in the world doesn't grow up eating it too.
I pretty much had the same reaction my first time eating it in my 20’s at a random restaurant and it was so good that I went back a week later for more it’s so cool that you were able to make this at home ❤
Hey Y'all. You've been missing out. I make Bread Pudding all the time. I don't put the nuts or the Apple filling. It is still delicious. The way it looks is how it is supposed to look even without the vanilla cream on top. I'm from the St. Louis area. Whenever I make it, those that taste it really, really like it and want me to fix it over and over. It'll grow on you.
Texture looks perfect. I'm from the North Carolina mountains....we called it cold bread pudding. Mama used left over biscuits. I never had it with the pie filling, but it sounds good. I use both colors raisins. That was our staple Sunday dessert. Love your videos.❤
My mother made it with leftoverbicuits. I never had with the pie filling in it. She sometimes put raisins in it but daddy didn’t like it with raisins. Never made a sauce to go over it.
I can taste it, without tasting it! It's delicious! !💖💖💖
Add a scoop of vanilla icecream on top. Yummo!
M’s. Donna that looks absolutely perfect! My great aunt was a baker and would make this and taught me. I’ve made a regular one with a rum sauce and a chocolate one but I’m gonna try this one with the apples and vanilla sauce and use the brioche bread. It looks so tasty and the texture is spot on. Thanks for trying and sharing. You’ve made all of our ancestors who made this proud. 😊
@termikamccoy2623: Ah, I’d rather drink the rum and forget the pudding but I bet yours tasted great!
This recipe is a little too much fiddling for me, but it looks good!
Made today with peaches and it came out great!
Thanks Mrs Donna for blessing this young man by baking a dish he holds near and dear to his ❤️! It looks so good!! I will definitely be trying this recipe!! May substitute the apples for blueberries 😋! God bless you and your beautiful family!! 🙏
Never thought of that easy way to grease a pan. Thanks. My husband loves bread pudding
Oooh Mrs Donna I been wanting a good bread pudding recipe, I’m so excited!!!!!! Can’t wait to try. I love bread pudding. It looks right to me Mrs Donna .
It looks spot on. The way you are describing it, it sounds exactly like it's supposed to taste. Like a cakey custard with a sweet sauce on top. ❤
Donna the bread pudding texture looks right
My mom made it all the time with Loaf bread
I can taste it now .My mom was a excellent old fashion cook. Thanks for sharing it brought back memories.
I love bread pudding, and rice pudding. Dark raisins are sweeter. 💯💯💯💯👍👍👍
It's so good to see you expand your baking skills Donna, there's so much to explore 😊
How pleasant and kind you are! I love watching! Bless you.
I'm from Louisiana and we make bread pudding quite often using fruits, or chocolates. Sauce is also made to put over the top of the baked pudding. The texture is like a heavy pudding.
I'm also from Louisiana. 🙂
Me too so common here in Louisiana
@allsay icee until this video I had never seen it made with fruit other than rasins. Funny how some areas of a state will have totally different customs than others. Still good food🙂
Your home must have been the talk of the closest neighbors around you!!! I can only imagine the aroma!
I’ve never added fruit or a sauce to bread pudding, but will definitely try both. The texture is supposed to be soft when it is done, not dry like cake or squishy like pudding - if that helps you. I typically make it when I have leftover bread or rolls from an event. You can mix the breads too. Anything goes when it comes to bread pudding.
You are a pleasure to watch and listen to! You must be a kind person, and you would be a wonderful teacher!
I’m SURE you did his Grand Mama well. My Mother use to make bread pudding as well, she would “collect” the breads, cake etc in preparation for it. She used peaches & raisins. I was never a huge fan of it but I would always sample it. Mom’s been in Heaven for 31 years (Easter Sunday). My cousins always ask about her recipe. You’ve inspired me to want to make it again. I haven’t done that in YEARS! Thank you.
You’re amazing Sis, and your hubby’s reaction was PRICELESS! 🍞💛👏🏾
I love hearing the stories about cooking and your parents. Such memories are made in the kitchen.❤
I bake bread puddin often,I use coffee creamer in mine. I do peach praline w/pecans and a carmel sauce. It should have a little jiggle to it and it will firm a little while cooling. You can make any kinda any of bread puddin, raisins, cranberries etc. We love it, Blessings Pastor and Lady Donna🙏❤️
I appreciate how you really clean your cans and containers out thoroughly when adding them to the recipe. It always drives me crazy to see a bunch of product left in the cans!
Hi Donna! You are right on point. It is just as it should be. Some people prefer not too moist. That is their preference. The way you made it was perfect. I’ve been baking for over 40 years, so I know a little something 😊 great job!
You guys are so sweet together. So much respect for each other.
You got it right Donna, it looks delicious.
Yes, that's the way it's supposed to taste/look like.😋
I've eaten bread pudding my whole life and the texture looks spot on to me. I bet it was delicious, too. Great job and what an honor to be asked to make something that he apparently loved. I'm sure, he was thankful that you showed him, exactly what to do, in order to make his grandma-mama's recipe. I would definitely try this recipe one day.
I love bread pudding. I made it pretty often. It is not low-carb friendly, but it is delicious and truly a comfort food 😋
The texture is perfect. You did a fantastic job. Not too many can cook something and get it perfect if they have never had it before
Hey Ms Donna my mother made bread pudding all the time left over biscuits ,you did an awesome job it looks so delicious
That's exactly what the texture should be! You are excellent! Wow!
I made it Lady Donna and it was delicious. I had one but it didn't include some of those ingredients. I just enjoy you and Pastor! You got me cooking/baking pound cakes
This was one of me and my grandma's favorites 😍 she taught me how to make this when I was 6yrs old..it's a bit weird but im teary eyed watching you prepare this...Thank you for sharing ❤
I Love Bread Pudding, yes it can be made many different ways.
It's supposed to be soft and mushy, because it's bread.
It came out good!!! ❤
Yes, it's perfect! Grandma ma
would be proud of all of you
Because it was made with love
Hey Errbody, This is one of my Daddy’s favorite desserts. He is in heaven now. I’m going to try and make this. I just wish I had this recipe when he was here with me.But I will make one for my daddy!! Until next time! Peace and Love Sis ❤️Smooches 💜
Or we have added just raisins, and 2 tablespoons of cinnamon to lightly taste. I’ll try other kinds of fruits next time.
Sister you did your thing that looks so good😊
My mother and grandma made it and your texture and color is spot on
😂 your husband makes me laugh and that bread pudding looks delicious and fantastic thank you for sharing 😊
Bless your heart….. I can not imagine never having bread pudding.😮 you are gonna love it!
Yes, that texture looks perfect! Great job 👏🏾
So glad this young man shared this recipe for all of us to see! My mother used to make bread pudding because my dad loved it, as did I! No apples were included but it actually sounds great with the apples. Looks yummy to me. Just found you and will check out more of your recipes! You give great explanations with logical tips for those who aren't as experienced in the kitchen.
Your bread pudding looks delicious. My mom and grandma used to make them and I used to make, but I haven't made any since my husband passed. He loved them . Enjoy 😊❤
Hello Donna that is exactly how it is suppose to look and taste . Great job
I actually made some last week. So good😋yes, it looks great even the texture. It's suppose to be a lil spongy like a pudding, but with bread in it❤
I’m 80 years old, from Alabama too, and my Mom use to make bread pudding quiet often. We loved it, she always used white bread because that’s the kind of bread she made sandwiches with for my Dad and my sister and I for lunch for his work and our school. I don’t believe bread had as many preservatives put in back then and it would go stale quicker than it does now. So, as it was not as fresh as you would want for sandwiches she would use the stale bread for making pudding. I actually never watched her make the pudding and bake it but I believe she probably made it pretty much as you made yours but with just white bread and raisins usually dark raisins and no apples. The other difference is she would spoon it into dishes for desert either warm after she cooked it or room temperature or cold from the refrigerator. She would then top off the individual servings with a very rich custard made from egg yokes, milk, sugar and vanilla extract, but careful to never bring the custard to a boil and it thicken naturally with out corn starch for a thickener. She used the custard hot after making it or cold after refrigerating it so it would keep. Hope this helps you and your husband understand the nature of bread pudding. I am also pretty sure it wasn’t an Alabama thing or even a southern thing but may have been the times we lived when people made use of what they had on hand and not letting something go to waste. My Mama also made rice pudding also using raisins, sugar, milk, cinnamon and vanilla extract. Some people used what was called a whiskey sauce for the rice pudding.
Yes Donna you did a great job. Some of my siblings didn't like the crust of the bread and my mom toasted and put that into that day pudding as well 😊
It looks perfect, and even good cold!👍
Wow! I love bread pudding, I’ve made it with rum or cognac, along with raisins and caramel. I’ve never tried any fruit in it before. I see I might have to try this! Especially since you all really enjoyed it!❤
Try fruit cocktail
@@wandagray9094 hi! So it would taste better with fruit cocktail? Wow, how interesting… I’m going to have try this. Now, I would assume that I’m draining the juice from it before adding it to the custard, right?
No, definitely don't drain the juice. My mom in law made her bread pudding this way. She cooked her sauce until it came to a soft boil while constantly stirring. This makes a thicker sauce too.
Peaches are also often used. I am not a fan of bread pudding. However, I would definitely try Mrs Donna’s recipe.
Oooh, rum or cognac...I want some of that pudding, sounds delicious.
That bread pudding looks delicious! I am glad you and your husband enjoyed it. I have eaten bread pudding several times and my family loves it, so I am thankful to know how to make it now. I have never had it with a fruit filling, but I look forward to trying this recipe. Continue to be great!
One of the chefs at a hospital I worked at made bread pudding with wheat rolls & raisins with a slightly tart lemon sauce & it sold out quickly. It was crazy delicious. Your recipe sounds good. I can hardly wait to try it. I love your channel.
Donna, that bread pudding is on point ❤
Hon, this was originally made of old Bread and bits and pieces of fruit when farm families had plenty of milk and eggs and butter. It made a large desert to feed a big family. All the bread was homemade so it dried out fast. My mamaw made it using left over cornbread, biscuits or bread. Sometimes all of it together. Every time it had a different texture depending on the bread or fruits used. It was a way to use up scraps and not waste anything and create a treat for hard working people. That was the original intent now they have exact recipes..so you really can't make it wrong. I enjoyed watching you cook.. May God Bless and keep you and yours.
The bread pudding looked perfect!
❤Oh my that looks AMAZING...I have made it and you did it to perfection...yes mushy soft custardy yesssss you did it just right.Thank you Grandmama BRIGHTEST BLESSINGS 💖
My mom used to make bread pudding, but she used regular white bread and would put pineapple chunks and raisin in hers. She would make a vanilla and, sometimes, RUM sauce. It was so good, and I have yet to find bread pudding like hers. One day, I'm going to try making her pudding. I'm also going to try your version with pineapple chunks instead of apples. I remember you saying in one of your cake videos that you and some of your family members don't care for pineapples. Only your dude number 2 really like them.
The bread pudding has a beautiful presentation. I'm a country boy from Louisiana that was raised eating bread pudding that my mother made all the time. You did a great job.
It looks good Donna! I have never had bread pudding either. It looks like cinnamon rolls. You really have talent in cooking skills! ❤️
I love bread pudding! I think you did his grandmama proud.
My mom used to make us bread pudding back in the 50's & 60's. Seems like i just remember raisins not nuts or apples but they sound delicious. But she would always serve it in little glass dessert bowls that made it look so appetizing as well. She had a custard sauce on top too. The texture was not like cake, so i suggest DO NOT BAKE LONGER, i think you got the right texture. Good for you. Trying something you never even had. It looks great.
Yeah I’m drooling this looks so delicious my mom made it all the time for 80 some years. I think you got the texture just right also. Remember the more it cools the thicker the texture will get. 😊
Sounds good. No! Nuts!
Its so refreshing to see you work in the kitchen like how normal people at home do. So many cooking and baking shows never scrape the bowl clean with a spatula like I would and it drives me crazy!😂 And cleaning as you go...I love it! I love your colorful mixing bowl and knife, your starburst light fixture, your dancing husband 😂😂😂.
As a frequent baker I sure knew you needed more spice from the get go and that mixture was so thin, I knew it was going to be in the oven longer than 45 minutes. It has more to do with the texture of the mix than ones oven for sure😉
That topping was spot on. Nice work! Looks delicious!❤
Girl I love bread pudding and that looks sooo good!!!😋 I would tear it up!! Yum yum yummy!!! Great job.❤
It’s good warm with ice cream too!❤
Hey Mrs Donna I love bread pudding. I love y’all family. ❤❤❤
Just what I’m looking for! This’s bringing back my childhood memories! Thanks!
Donna, that looks delicious! I’ve made bread pudding 🍞several times, but not with apples.🍏 I will definitely try this recipe. Thanks for sharing❣️💚
My grandpa would make it and my mom did, too. Now, I make it, using their recipe. Yum!
Looks delicious! I make it with cinnamon and raisins. Mother’s Restaurant in New Orleans makes it with fruit cocktail and a rum sauce I think. It is really good. I want to try a rice pudding.
I love bread pudding, I am from Alabama also an she used whatever bread was left over biscuits, lite bread, cornbread so good. Takes me back to my childhood
Great Job!
I was looking for your response.
It looked great, Mrs. Donna!
I haven't had it since i was a kid im 66 yrs old now. What i remember the custer should be creamy. So it looks so delicious and im going to try this recipe! Thank that young man for sharing it with to share with the rest of us! ❤❤
Your bread pudding was beautiful. Nicely browned on the top and custardy like french toast on the inside. I like the addition of the apple pie filling. I do have one suggestion, and this is the home economist in me, use dry measures for your dry ingredients as that makes measuring more accurate. Looking forward to more episodes.
Enjoy watching you cook!! It’s a joyous event when we come together with family and friends, and commune with some good food to feed the body and the soul! Heck, even strangers converge with good food. Sure wish I could have your company in my kitchen.
Big hugs and much love to you! God bless you!
I never had it, but it looks delicious❣️
Adding some drained fruit cocktail is absolutely delicious in bread pudding as well as regular raisins, my mom made bread pudding for us all the time and it was delicious!!!
Yesss!! I always use fruit cocktail! So delicious!!
