And, I made a whole milk version too, that you can see here: • Bread Pudding (Whole M...
Hey, y'all! I'm Jan, and welcome to my attempt to video my cooking, baking, and gardening. I'm learning, so please bear with me. The meals/baking, etc., I've been doing for decades. Recording it on anything, never. Lol
This started as a virtual recipe book for my kids when I'm gone. Then I decided to start recording my garden as sort of a diary, especially the woes of deep south heat and humidity, and trying to keep my plants alive during summer so that they can produce until (hopefully)November.
I don't claim to be a chef or master gardener. I'm an idiot, and probably screw up more things than I get right.
But, I absolutely love cooking and gardening. I'll grow/cook/bake pretty much anything, once. Or, try to.
Hope you'll stick around for this journey with me! Also, if you have any cooking requests, just yell.
    Now to the recipe:
Bread Pudding - it's easy to make, and delicious! You can make this many different ways. But, any way you make it, you'll love it.
You'll need: 9x13 bake dish, buttered (or two 8x8s or one deep 8x8)
16 pieces of sandwich bread - cut into cubes or torn into one inch chunks. You can use any bread here - sandwich, brioche, biscuits, hotdog buns, etc.) Just make sure it's about equal to a loaf of bread.
1 and 1/2 cups of Milk (or hot water)
1- 14oz can Sweetened Condensed Milk
    3 Large eggs, beaten
1/3 cup packed brown sugar (or granulated sugar)
1/2 Stick of Salted butter, melted *Note- If you use unsalted butter, add a pinch of salt to the mixture.
1 cup Raisins *Optional (you can use any thing you want.. raisins, currents, pecans, walnuts, or nothing at all
1 Tbs Vanilla (plus 1 teaspoon for the vanilla sauce)
    1 Teaspoon of Cinnamon
1/2 cup powdered sugar (vanilla sauce)
    1 tbs milk (vanilla sauce)
In a large bowl, whisk together your milk, sweetened condensed milk, eggs, butter, sugar, cinnamon.
In your greased bake dish, pour your bread cubes in and raisins (if using).
Then pour your milk/egg/sugar batter over your bread
Take a spoon on your hand and press the bread down into the liquid to make sure all bread is absorbing some milk mixture.
Let sit 30 minutes or even over night.
    Oven at 350F (180C)
    Bake 30-40 minutes.
    *Optional Vanilla Sauce
    1/2 cup powdered sugar
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    1 tbs milk
Mix well, and drizzle over your bread pudding once it comes out of the oven.
-- You can also top it with ice cream, cool whip, syrup. Anything you like.
    Enjoy!
**You can freeze this if you want to bake it ahead. Place in fridge 24 hours before needed, to thaw it.

I understand I will possibly get some unpleasant comments for this but here goes.
Please can we be mindful when we make comments on something that we got for free that somebody else put their time and effort into .
Can we just appreciate it and if there is a problem such as low volume or scraping noises can we pick our words gently and kindly as words so quickly typed can cut deeply .
I definitely enjoyed this, turned the volume up and sat quietly to watch til the end and I thank the uploader for her recipe and her effort .

Thank you so much for your comment. I've been completely stunned by how mean some people can be about a video. I don't actually know why many can hear it, yet some can not. This was one of my first videos. And, I still wasn't too good at editing.
Full disclosure: I started recording these videos for my kids. Only my kids. For when I'm gone. A sort of virtual recipe book, because my oldest daughter had asked me last summer to start writing all the recipes in my head, down for her. I decided if I record them (secretly), maybe these will be of some comfort to my girls, since they won't know this channel exists until then.
I never expected anyone else would ever see these videos. Much less that this video would get so many views. It's still overwhelming, to be honest.
But, I'm getting better at editing, better at speaking louder. Went out to the thrift store and got some glass bowls so people stop screaming at me. Lol
I truly appreciate so many people being interested, even if I don't understand the why. Most are recipes I've made for decades. I guess I assumed everyone else knew how to make this one specifically, and I was the only one late to the Bread Pudding party.
I'm completely humbled. And, I thank you for your kindness. And for being here. Thank you, Felicity! :)

Wow! That's amazing to hear. I knew that bread pudding originated in Europe a very long time ago. But, it's awesome to hear from someone whose Grandmother was making this 100, maybe even 150 years ago. I absolutely love knowing how far back some recipes go. Especially to know that a lot of us like it made just as it was back then.
Thank you so much for telling me that history, letting me know you can hear me, and for being here, Ms. Patricia! :)

Why are you here watching how to make bread pudding then? Just curious, not being mean.
I used to do the same as you. I'd usually make it when I had some raisin bread left that got stale before I ate it.
These days I don't eat raisin bread and I'm not married anymore so I haven't made it for a while and wanted a real recipe to go by. I have some marked down French bread from Walmart marked down bakery shelf. I usually buy that and make French toast but had a craving for bread pudding.

I love this video. The way you mixed everything really good and didn't hurry. Sprinkled all the Rasins around evenly. I'm going to make this just like you did real soon!!! Thankyou.

I've used several types of bread, biscuits and even hot dog / burger buns. But my favorite is to just use Italian bread that I slice one inch thick to make cinnamon toast and then cut them into one inch chunks to make the pudding. Your recipe just makes me want to make some. It looks so good and I can almost smell that wonderful aroma of homemade goodness.

Absolutely fantastic and I can't wait to make this. Can you freeze this after it has been baked? Thank you so very much for sharing your recipe.

You're so welcome! Thank you for watching. You can absolutely freeze this once baked. You'll want it to cool all the way off before freezing it.
You could also mix it all up, leave the raisins out (if using raisins), then freeze it. And then when ready to bake it, put it in the fridge over night, and add the raisins in just prior to baking it.
I really hope you like it! :)

Lools great. I've heard so much about bread puddijg but have never had it. Since I've got more bread then can use I thought why not look up recipes for bread pudding. Its interesting how eveyone has their own little differences in the recipes. I like that you use sweetened consense milk ❤😂

This was not the way I'd usually make it. Generally used milk. But, I like this way much better after making this. Tastes evenly sweet, throughout. And thank you for watching!

I actually grew up eating this but we call this capirotada in Spanish & I've never attempted to make my own.. so, I'm so happy I found your video because it really inspired me to go ahead and try it myself at home. I have all of those ingredients too 😂❤
I've even got walnuts and chocolate chips.

I have almost the same recipe..... 2 cups milk, 6 tablespoons sugar, 4 eggs, melted butter. Same amount of stale bread, half cup of raisins. Soak the bread, bake it. Make nice sauce for it and it is delish. My goodness, all that condensed milk, how can you taste the custard.

I toss my bread pieces in the custard a little bit, just folding it in not stirring it then put it in a baking dish.
