The best bread pudding I ever had was when my (tipsy) aunt decided to make some last-minute and didn’t have everything she needed. Instead of cream, she used coffee creamer and just dumped everything except the bread together in a bowl, threw in some spices and brandy, and whisked it up before dumping it over the bread and baking it in a crock pot. I can’t tell you how amazing it was!!! She’s never been able to re-create it.
Hahaha I should! I’ve never made bread pudding myself, but it’s simple enough that I should try. Honestly I wonder if she dumped in some of her bourbon as well and we just forgot. LOL!

Most supermarkets (and bakeries) have a "day-old" shelf or stand on which they lay out the older bread that is still saleable. In my grandmother's day, the heels of loaves of bread, the crusts from the children's sandwiches, and a few slices were all cubed and put in the bread box to keep until there was enough to make a bread pudding. To this day bread pudding is my favorite dessert, followed closely by authentic English fruitcake (not the crappy stuff you can buy commercially; our recipe is about 500 years old, passed from oldest daughter to oldest daughter), and plum pudding with hard sauce.

Bread pudding and custards in general are my favorite deserts. This looks amazingly delicious! I have some dry croissants that I’m going to use with cranberries and walnuts this afternoon. Love your videos!
In the UK this is bread and butter pudding. Bread pudding is made from stale bread, all the crusts etc saved till you have enough. Bread soaked in boiling water then once cool squeezed. Then cream butter /margarine and sugar, amounts depend on amount of bread. Add eggs, number depends on amount of bread. Add squeezed bread. Sultanas or raisins, mixed candied peel if you have it. Currants if you want. Mixed spice i use at least 2 heaped teaspoons, more if its a bit old and lising flavour. Put mixture in large tin, we used roasting tins, in moderate oven till cooked. It should be about 2 to 3 inches deep. We were a large family and had home made wholemeal bread crusts and mum always used brown sugar. UK bread pudding is delicious. Moist and spicey. Bread and butter pudding is ok if you want something quick and dont have enough bread for a bread pudding.
My grandmother used to make a version of this sauce for plain white sheet cake. One of the best simple flavored deserts for after a big meal. I have the recipe now.
I made it as you said out of stale peasant bread. I only had a cup of milk left for the sauce so I added a half a cup cream and apple cider along with cinnamon and a bit of nutmeg. It was divine. I only changed it because that's what I had.

I’ve been making bread like a typical quarantined person and i needed to do something with it after a few days bc it goes stale so fast. I’ve made stuffing before and this time tried the bread pudding. It was so good! I didn’t add foil and let it get nice and crispy at the top and loved it. Next time i will probably add cinnamon and raisins not bc it needs it but bc i am so use to it that it feels odd to have bread pudding with out it. it is fabulous regardless. This really was super easy. Can’t wait for the fam to have some in the morning. Thanks for the recipe!

Loved it. Made it for the old man for Father's day. It reminded us of our summers vacationing in Barbados. Closest thing we've had to the resort bread pudding.
I'm from Barbados. Our secret to our bread pudding is cream! And ofcourse the rum sauce 😋
@@lalique241 I'm from Trini but am in Bim every year even back when I used to play in Gary Sobers international. This is the closest thing to the Turtle beach bread pudding I used to have.
So you substitute the milk for cream? Or do half and half type mixture? I'll definitely try it out.
@@D-d-dvon ohh ok. 👍half and half basically. And butter
I made this today Aug.12, 2024 but added some cinnamon and raisins . Oh my goodness this dish is so decadent . Thanks for the recipe. I also only used vanilla sadly I didn't have brandy handy. Debby Ginter

Coming from eastern/middle Europe, I never tried bread pudding... I made it with this recipe for the first time, turned out amazing, I ate it by myself in a few days, 10/10 🙌🙌
I don’t care it will be 100+ degrees this weekend. I’m making this 😍
This is the best bread pudding recipe I've found on here. I used to frequent this little cafe in Louisville, Ky (where I live) and they made this wit Bailey's Irish Cream sauce.....SOOOOOO yummy!
OMG! I haven't had bread pudding for years. My grandmother used to make it. Soooo delicious! I'm going to make this for my kids. 😁 Thanks for sharing, it's definately an old favourite and yes she used to add raisins. 😉❤
Mo mom added raisings too! I picked around them 😂

I made this using your recipe for a base adding raisins that I soaked in vanilla creamer and made a creme anglais the 2nd time were in love! I have to make one every couple days lol
I've made bread pudding for most of my long life. Sometimes with a recipe sometime just dumping things in, never had one come out bad! A very forgiving dish. My way most favorably received included sausage, onions and jalapeños. Sweet ones are great also.
Excellent! I have to make this for my wife, she will love this!
Just made this today and it's so good !!! IT'S SUPER EASY AS WELL
I like how he explains In details why you should or shouldn't do it helps so much in my cooking's

Hello John, Thank you so much for your recipes, I have tried many of them, and all turned great to the point! excellent. I tried today the Bread Pudding with the sauce and it was an awesome experience delicious beyond words! Your recipes are an inspiring teacher!
Thank you. Happy New Year 2022.
So I actually tried this recipe. I was trying to make my New Year's resolution last longer. buuut OMG!!!!!!!! It is soo good especially the sauce on top *chef's kiss*.
I guess it's back to trying different recipes
I love this video. I use it to make an amaretto bread pudding with a vanilla brioche bread and it comes out so good.
This was delicious!!! I made it exactly the same. Thank you so much for all of your delicious recipes!
I made this and added raisins in mine. So good
How about some rum-soaked raisins?
@@Jeffffrey0902 that sounds amazing
You can also add apple slices, plums, any fresh or canned fruits or add them after baking as sauce, additional to vanilla sauce.
I made this with Panettone and have to say I learned I don't care for Panettone. My husband loved it! I will make it with brioche next year. But not before then because I was eating the sauce with a spoon!! I was so delicious!
I was looking for a dessert recipe to make use of extra bread, and this was perfect! Thank you! :)
Loved it 😍
