If you'll put a damp paper towel under that cutting board, it won't slide around on you and will be a lot safer. Bread pudding was invented to use up leftover bread that had gone stale. The dry bread will soak up the milk better than fresh bread. You can always add some raisins and cinnamon to plain bread to get the taste. My husband loves this, too, but I never cared for bread pudding until my mother made chocolate bread pudding--I liked that!

I made this today and not only was it easy, it was awesome! I did make 2 small changes. I got a loaf of red, white, and blue bread from my local Wegmans grocery store. Don’t know if you ever heard of them, they’re based in NYS and I think there are a few stores in PA and NJ. It’s not your average grocery store. It is so much more! But that’s a story all by itself. It has cinnamon and raisins and sprinkled with sugar on top, so I cut back the sugar to 3/4 cup. I followed the remaining directions as you instructed. It came out AWESOME! I cooked up a box of jello vanilla pudding to add on top - and took it a step further - I topped it with whipped cream! 😅😅 I’m glad I cut back on the sugar or it would have been too sweet. I wanted to buy your cook book but it’s out of stock. 😢 Now I need to do a search for fried chicken. I can’t help but think you must have a dynamic recipe for southern fried chicken!

You aren't kidding it's not your average grocery store, I sure wish we had them here in Indiana, it's worth the drive to NY just to go there! Too many falls from my horses= a stiff lower back, especially if the dish is heavy. I would do well with a wall oven! The trick seems to be buying cinnamon bread with raisins already in it, which eliminates the need for adding and mixing additional ingredients. That is such an easy and logical concept, I wonder why no one else has thought to do it! 🤦🏻♀️ The vanilla pudding on top is an absolute decadent touch! And I agree - you need the cook and serve pudding - instant pudding has a distinctly different consistency and flavor - and not necessarily for the better! ❤

I wanted to share this because you remind so much of his mom (who is from Tennessee and encouraged me to cook and bake by buying me cookbooks for me at Christmas for most of our 40 year marriage). It became a family joke because as my older son once said “mom’s idea of starting dinner is starting the car.” I’m going to share the pineapple cream cheese sandwich idea with her as she plays and hosts bridge once a week at her home. I had bread pudding when I visited Chicago. Here in NZ, we make Bread & Butter Custard in the English tradition. The difference in the 2 is that BP I found to be quite dense and very "bready". In comparison the BBC is much lighter & moister. Both taste like custard which is their core ingredient although BBC has its own custard so no need to make a separate lot... Although serving it with ice cream or cream is normal. I made BBC for a family BBQ that I attended while in Chicago. It must have been ok as there weren't any survivors.
Mama used to make what she called 'cold bread pudding' made from leftover biscuits that was very delicious and made similar to this.She was a world class southern cook!
I have never met a bread pudding I didn't like, it's my all time favorite dessert! I get so excited whenver I see it on the menu of a restaurant, it's not one you come across too often in a restaurant. Can't wait to try this version! :)

I finally bought some Watkins vanilla and was like, why did I wait? So good. My husband has been wanting me to make bread pudding for a long time. I made some some years back but it wasn't good at all. I'm going to try this. It looks really easy and yummy. Thank you MeMe The bottom rack....I always use the middle. We have a local restaraunt that has bread pudding (kept warm) as a desert, it's a buffet and they use lemon curd as a topping, if you wish. It sure feels good on your throat when you have a cold.

That looks so yummy. You can make the cook and serve pudding into a sauce by upping the milk so it’s thinner. Can serve it warm. Experiment before serving to guest to get the right consistency.
I love this, but my mom used to make hers with a Carmel sauce- 1/4 cup butter. 1 cup brown sugar, 1-Tbls corn starch 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 cup cold water Melt butter add sugar.disolve cornstarch in cold water, then add to hot mixture stir till boiling and mixture thickens after you remove from fire add vanilla. It was soooo delicious
I think I use the top rack because I’m short and I get burned sometimes trying to get a hot dish out from between racks. And then too, the middle of the oven seems like it would give you a more even bake. 🤨 hmmm. Now that I say this, I wonder if there is any validity to it! 😳 love to watch you cook and share stories. Love bread pudding, my granny made hers with left over biscuits she would save them until she had enough. I make mine with the bread ends stale bread and hot dog and hamburger buns that i have , Its so good with .
One Christmas Eve we made fondue with lots of French bread cubes, veggies, and chocolate fondue for dessert. The next day, our friend called me and said she couldn’t bring dessert, which she was supposed to bring. So I took the left over bread cubes and made a large bread pudding and got my daughter and her friend to roll the left over chocolate fondue into truffles. Then I took the left over raw broccoli, cauliflower and cherry tomatoes and made a wreath in a ring mold, steamed it, and put the left over fondue on it with additional cheese as a sauce. So I made my husband happy by using up the leftovers and I made myself happy because we had some good sides for our Christmas dinner.
I’m 74yo. and my mother made bread pudding all the time when I was a child. She used dried pieces of the heals and other dried bread. She also used whole milk. She grew up on a small dairy farm and wouldn’t drink any milk but whole. However she never used butter but margarine, having lived through the Great Depression and World War 11. Anyway I grew up with bread pudding with raisins in it. I made it for my family. Of course, they’re all grown up now. My oldest grandkids are in their twenties.
I will sure try this Recipe. My mother is 81 and I am her personal Care Giver. She has health issues and can't be left alone any longer. For 7 years now. Jesus helps us every day. Okay so I made your Mac and cheese recipe and it was amazing. I just put THIS in the oven and although i have never been a fan of bread pudding, I may ch a nge my mind if it is half as good as the mac and cheese turned out! Update it was SO good. I did the vanilla pudding on top. I have to say I am officially a superfan now.
I was definitely happy at the end, when you said shine for Jesus. The bread Pudding looked a little wet in the bottom of the pan for me so I think I might add a little less milk. Yep, lightly fry the peaches in a little butter sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and add with hard sauce and half melted ice cream. You can do the same with apples. OMG, delish!

My mama always baked on the bottom rack as well. I use to do the same for many years. Now I use the rack above. Love your videos.

I finally got around to making the bread pudding yesterday. It’s aroma was fabulous while it baked. My husband was more than pleasantly surprised and so happy when he realized what I baked. Shared it with one of my friends whose son-in-law loves bread pudding. 🥰❤️much thanks and love

I make pretty much the same recipe, except for the soaking time. I'll try it that way! I make a lemon sauce to go on mine. Yum!! You could even make lemon pudding. The two flavors go together so nicely! Thanks!
You can add a can of sliced peaches to the mix, as well!

That looks so yummy. You can make the cook and serve pudding into a sauce by upping the milk so it’s thinner. Can serve it warm. Experiment before serving to guest to get the right consistency.

I love this, but my mom used to make hers with a Carmel sauce- 1/4 cup butter.
1 cup brown sugar,
1-Tbls corn starch
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup cold water
Melt butter add sugar.disolve cornstarch in cold water, then add to hot mixture stir till boiling and mixture thickens after you remove from fire add vanilla. It was soooo delicious
I cook on the bottom rack too, Diane - just so you know you’re not alone! My mother did so I do.

I think I use the top rack because I’m short and I get burned sometimes trying to get a hot dish out from between racks. And then too, the middle of the oven seems like it would give you a more even bake. 🤨 hmmm. Now that I say this, I wonder if there is any validity to it! 😳 love to watch you cook and share stories. Love bread pudding, my granny made hers with left over biscuits she would save them until she had enough. I make mine with the bread ends stale bread and hot dog and hamburger buns that i have , Its so good with .
One Christmas Eve we made fondue with lots of French bread cubes, veggies, and chocolate fondue for dessert. The next day, our friend called me and said she couldn’t bring dessert, which she was supposed to bring. So I took the left over bread cubes and made a large bread pudding and got my daughter and her friend to roll the left over chocolate fondue into truffles. Then I took the left over raw broccoli, cauliflower and cherry tomatoes and made a wreath in a ring mold, steamed it, and put the left over fondue on it with additional cheese as a sauce. So I made my husband happy by using up the leftovers and I made myself happy because we had some good sides for our Christmas dinner.
I’m 74yo. and my mother made bread pudding all the time when I was a child. She used dried pieces of the heals and other dried bread. She also used whole milk. She grew up on a small dairy farm and wouldn’t drink any milk but whole. However she never used butter but margarine, having lived through the Great Depression and World War 11. Anyway I grew up with bread pudding with raisins in it. I made it for my family. Of course, they’re all grown up now. My oldest grandkids are in their twenties.

I will sure try this Recipe. My mother is 81 and I am her personal Care Giver. She has health issues and can't be left alone any longer. For 7 years now. Jesus helps us every day. Okay so I made your Mac and cheese recipe and it was amazing. I just put THIS in the oven and although i have never been a fan of bread pudding, I may ch a nge my mind if it is half as good as the mac and cheese turned out!
Update it was SO good. I did the vanilla pudding on top. I have to say I am officially a superfan now.

I was definitely happy at the end, when you said shine for Jesus. The bread Pudding looked a little wet in the bottom of the pan for me so I think I might add a little less milk. I like the idea of the pudding on top. I am definitely going to try this but not with the raisins. Thank you and God bless you.

Yep, lightly fry the peaches in a little butter sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and add with hard sauce and half melted ice cream. You can do the same with apples. OMG, delish!

I just mix all the wet items including the milk together then dump bread pieces into the bowl. Let it set and bake as you did. Saves on dishes!!
