So stupid that you get in trouble for playing your OWN music on youtube because of algorithms and old copyright crap. Dear RUclips... do some research, leave Rob alone.
Despite the controversy I think this is a really cool song and Mark has awesome clean vocals as well. It really has this nineties/early 2000's vibe which I personally really miss these days. Nu-metal but done with great quality.
As a 16 year old I remember impossibility of reason coming out . I had just lost my mother . And this album changed my life I was already starting to play guitar obsessed with PanterA but chimaria I discovered on my own and I seen you every time you were near me . I seen you guys with slipknot and fear factory I thought I could die that night happy. 😂. Your riffs spoke to me and I needed that . I went from getting into fights at school because of not knowing how to grieve properly. Then I started picking fights with my guitar and these songs helped me more than you could ever know rob !!! Know years later my father passed and here I am right back to the impossibility of reason this album has been medication for my depression anger hurt pain . Thank you sir if ever you helped someone and didn’t know now you know you changed my life and I’m forever grateful
I remember seeing this on the DVD and seeing Jim drive in his car at night listening to the song with all the snow outside. The song always gives me the vibes of an anthem for Cleveland.
Good on you for keeping your integrity man! Definitely not a bad tune but big nu-metal vibes. I think one the big reasons your albums stand up so well today is because they’re free of gimmicks and haven’t dated.
I’m so glad this song saw the light of day! It’s a great song. Also I feel like nu-metal is more about people who listen to lots of genres of music, not just metal, combining their influences into something unique.
Yeah I'm totally with you on this, Rob. It's very very reminiscent of that time period and makes me think of other bands but definitely not Chimaira! I always remember that moment of the dvd and was like ah thank god for Rob lol
My 2 Cents as a Very big Chimaira fan since the beginning. lol This song sounds AWESOME!!! I love it, but with that being said I hear no place for that to be on the Impossibility of Reason Album. Down again was the The most mellow song on that album (IMO) that I almost couldn't tolerate, because the rest of the album is so BRUTAL!!!
I literally never skip this song, to me, it sounds really good because it’s “unique” in its own way, it kinda reminds me of something off of Freddy vs Jason.
Glad you guys kept tracks like Down again otherwise there might not have been a Salvation on the self self titled record. all in all you guys were heavy but had melody and thats how i accept Chimaira. That solo in Stays the same is catchy AF btw the easy stuff sticks.
I get why it was cut, but it is a really good song. I personally really loved the cleans off of the first recordings and showed off Mark's dynamics. What's neat is that this song really puts vibes of older Spineshank, which I am all about!
To me this song really brings out that era, almost gives me some slight queen of the Danm vibes mixed with chimaira. I wonder how it would have done back then! Hearing it now is great but Danm it would have been great to hear it with some 2004 ears 🔥🔥🔥
impossibly of reason was the first album that really got me into metal back in 03-04. I was 13 at the time. of course it’s not as heavy as the other tunes, but who cares. the older I get, the more I appreciate different stuff. and to me, this a banger for sure! I’m just glad the track never got deleted entirely
I will never forget falling asleep watching Dehumanizing Process, and waking up to Stays the Same playing because I never selected an option on the home menu. I was SO stoked 😂
Uh... wtf?? This is a top 5 song that I've listened to yet by you. Are yall freaking kidding me?.. This is more of what I love.. groovy metal, nu-metal and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!! And MARK WAS GREAT.. STILL TODAY THIS IS AN OPTION IN FRONT OF YALL.. New Patreon Member - JoeTayMetal @RobArnoldWorld #RobArnoldWorld
Haha I know I know man... A lot of people dig this tune, and I love that! But for me personally, I wanted the band to keep heading in a heavier direction. I appreciate your support on Patreon bro! Happy to have you aboard!🤘
Very nu metal 00s vibe and I'm glad you held your ground and it was left off. Down again was a better melodic moment, epic and better in every way. Great video!
So glad to find this channel, saw Chimaira in my home city of Sheffield, England all the way back in 2004 with Stampin Ground and Everytime I Die opening. I think one issue with doing a radio friendly hit that contradicts the heavier tone is that you end up kind of obliged to play it live where it sticks out like a sore thumb and can negatively effect the flow of the set. There's nothing inherently wrong with this song, but I'm glad the album came out as it did.
No no no!!!! That’s actually a cool solo, tbh. Maybe not technically like you wanted but it really fit the song. I know what you mean about phoned in solos. If this was a phoned in solo, great job man.
While I totally dig the song and always have, I'm glad you won the battle on this one. The heavier, riffin' tunes are what got me into Chimaira back when Impossibility came out.
Only happened upon this video! Feel like the sections of "This is my time to ride" (chorus) where harsher on the vox you'd be onto a winner! I love marks cleans, it gives me Alice In Chains vibes
Dude ..I've been a fan of your band ..and especially your guitar playing..I seen you guys back on This Present Darkness tour..and I was Fukin hooked on you guitar sound..it was heavier ASF..I started a band right after that night..I play Rhythm guitar in DOWN2KILL..I owe you everything dude .thanks dude
As for Chimaira being a radio band. I'm glad it never came to that. Because you did everything the right way. Kept it heavy with good groves and the lyrics have a lot of meanings to them for me. Long hair been there done that haha
ooohhh..yeah!!!No matter what happend..and all that..it still is a killer tune though, but i think it was spot on to leave it out..and letting Down Again do that part of the talking.Eitherway..we got the song as a bonus here and there. So it was a win win :) !!!And im glad you made a video about this.Gotta watch the vid...see ya later man :)Stef
Wow, finally¡¡¡¡¡¡One of my favourite songs from Chimaira, man... I waiting for this moment for years, since I heard it in The Dehumanizing Process dvd. I remember wait in from of my tv for a minute or so to hear it over and over again and triying to figure out how to play it. Thank you Rob, you´ve made me happy with this video.
Dehumanising Process was like our Bible back in the day. Fascinating to see the intricacies of the music industry and the big decisions bands have to make. Commentary was good fun too, gotta watch it again!
Never compromise your beliefs and sell your soul for a few bucks. Kudos to you Rob for sticking to your guns even though I dig this song. Glad it was cut, also glad it was a b side along with Army of Me
It was the right choice for you guys. Good for you not changing your mind Rob! I must admit I have never heard this track before - that's neither a good or a bad thing, but I completely feel Stays The Same doesn't belong on any Chimaira album. Impossibility of Reason is perfect the way it is \m/ btw the background music is so chill :D
Maaaaan! I had no idea you were on here doing this thing. LOVE Chimaira and am a newer guitar player (4-5 years now), so really looking forward to digging through your content.
I swear I've heard two different versions of this song. I remember years ago, I used to fall asleep with The Dehumanizing Process dvd on sometimes. I always found the song and the flames on the screen weirdly chilled out and relaxing.
@@RobArnoldWorld one sounds like it was recorded along with the rest of album, same tones. The other sounds like preproduction, possibly, a bit more raw. They're both on RUclips, I just had a look out of curiosity. I haven't heard the song in a long time, I love those trips down memory lane. ❤️👊🤘
Hearing this song and then listening to down again, makes me think that down again was kind of a compromise song as far as the singing is concerned. Also, the stance against clean singing makes me think of the DVD when you talked about the mosh call out "hey everybody, grab the zippers of the guy next to you and pull em down!" 😂
This song is actually really good, I’ve always dug it since the DVD came out. That being said, it doesn’t really fit the flow of TIoR, and I’m more than happy with it just being a bonus track. You’re still right after all these years!! Army of Me on the other hand… total destruction! P.s. I am legit shocked that you did a play through for this track lol.
Dang, this was cool. And I agree at the time.. probably not the best for the album. But I feel if it were released today... it might be met with a lot of praise. I see a bunch of metal bands now releasing a few tracks with lighter vocals. Awesome episode🤘
Just discovered chimaira and this channel. Can't believe I missed this band back in the 2000s. You guys better get back together so I can catch you guys at a show! Awesome channel I'm super addicted. Also, just bought your dvd, I should be getting it sometime this week 🤘
You guys made the correct choice IMHO. Very cool song overall but it would have definitely stuck out like a sore thumb on that album. I love Mark’s voice so much(various cleans included) but his tone at times here is just kinda weird to me. Trivium had a somewhat similar situation with “the rising” on their Crusade album. IIRC the label forced them to keep it on the album and the band has regretted it ever since. So much so, it’s one of the only songs they refuse to ever play live. Kinda funny because I love that song and probably would have grown to love this one as well, had it made the cut. Thanks for the lesson Rob!! Stay safe brother!! 🙏🤘🤙
I had question marks, thanks for clearing them. When you went to the solo it was so different than you That solo was a manifestation and a way to cement how you feel about the whole situation I think Mission accomplished 🤘🏻
I’m sure there’s already a bunch of comments like this but I agree with the decision to keep this off the album but glad that it was released on the deluxe album because it’s way too good to throw away. Songs rips but in comparison to the rest of the album it would stick out. Great video Rob!! 🤘🏻🎸🤘🏻
Its really catchy, love those octave riffs, (been experimenting with them lately), I can agree with you and then I can agree with a lot of the people commenting here, its like going from listening to Deicide or The Black Dahlia Murder to listening to Red Hot Chilli Peppers ( I Love RHCP), but the point is it does not mix with what I and everyone knows Chimaira for and what we love about Chimaira and why we are all fans!
Maybe release a 20th anniversary album and release the song as a bonus. Anyway you made the right choice you wanted to be like Slayer and have that aggression. Also the solo isn't bad it fits and it's in tune.
thanks for making this video Rob! I still really like the song and actually could have brought you some commercial success had it been released as a single (and if had you laid down a better solo, ha! :) )
I never even knew that about this song, it's actually always sounded really good to me and one of my favorites from y'all (Chimaira) 🖤 Thank you for all of the videos, Chimaira will always be a favorite band of mine. 🖤
Love the vid. I was going through my ticket stubs recently; First tour i saw you guys on was with soilwork and as I lay dying. It was basically in a basketball gym in indianapolis, it was so weird; To get to the show area we had to walk through a bunch of cubicles in an office area... I can't believe that was almost 20 years ago. Not related, but I also got see you guys at the Waverly Hills in Louisville, which was an apparent logistics nightmare and people were passing out in line from heat exhaustion (or other substances). Love the videos, love your energy. Keep on doing what you do man!
Rob, totally agree with you on this. Also funny you mention Down Again as your limit on this type of song. That's one that I tend to skip, and this one would likely have been a skip as well most times. In San Diego 2000s, I don't think Chimaira ever made it on Rock105.3 , but this song might have if it were released. That's a station that is still stuck in 2003 radio to this day. Actually, my least favorite songs are where the vocals sound like Layne Staley AIC, so I 100% agree with you on liking Chimaira trying to stay ultraheavy like a Slayer or Deicide.
Good question! I'm not sure if it's aged or if it's always looked like that. One of my RA-600 prototypes has a pick guard that looks yellow now too... Not sure if I just noticed it recently, or if this pearl stuff ages like old newspapers! haha
You were 100% right in 2002 Rob haha, but also this video is a really interesting insight. Also your chunky tone in this video is unreal. Were you using STL Tones plugin here?
Awesome vid, Robbie. This is not a bad tune at all, i have a feeling this could have been on a movies soundtrack (like Freddy vs Jason etc). But I agree with you, best left out of the album.
Great vid as always Rob! I agree with your verdict all these years later....not a bad song but not a good fit for that album. That brings me to a question, has there been any songs that did make it on a Chimaira album that you wished had hit the cutting room floor instead of on the album?
Yeah, you feel that this song isn't up to par with all the rest of the songs of TIOR. Fun riffs for sure and bouncy groove but the chorus doesn't seem to hit like 'Down Again' 's chorus. I think if this would have been the first single I would have passed on the album whereas 'Down Again' really got me excited because there's a good hook in it and it's groovy heavy. With DA you felt progress in songwriting and musicianship that made you want to explore the other songs on the new album. With this track I'd probably would have gotten a "Pass Out Of Existence" 2 - vibe, not bad but OK-ish, been there, heard that. Great video as always, man.
Don’t hate me for this comment but i have to say it 😄 This is one of my favourite Chimaira songs and that solo gets me everytime! Always on loop during autumn and early winter, fits the vibe i guess. Neat job with the axe as always! 🤘🏻
Dude so funny as I'm watch the tail end of the video I started writing a comment about Jim saying that u didn't have long hair and were scared then I see you put the clip in at the end haha I was laughing 😆 hard.
Very surprised to see this. Admittedly I am a fan of this song and think Marks vocals are really strong on it. Thanks for the vid Rob! Oh, and I guess I of course have to ask now, what about Indifferent to Suffering? 🤔🤔🤔
I thought that song sounded good. That opening riff is sick!!!! I remember being disappointed that song didn’t make the cut when I saw the doc years ago but I totally understand your thoughts on it.
Pretty cool video Rob. Kept thinking how the solo ish part sounds like you’re doing more than what you’re actually playing. Keep it up man. Love the content!

Nah uh. Down Again was amazing. It got me through really hard times.
Hearing this song and then listening to down again, makes me think that down again was kind of a compromise song as far as the singing is concerned. Also, the stance against clean singing makes me think of the DVD when you talked about the mosh call out "hey everybody, grab the zippers of the guy next to you and pull em down!" 😂
🤘🤣 And you're right, I guess it was a fair compromise!
Awesome Song 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Such a cool insight of the song and album - thanks so much for sharing!
Thanks for watching! 🤘
Dang, this was cool. And I agree at the time.. probably not the best for the album. But I feel if it were released today... it might be met with a lot of praise. I see a bunch of metal bands now releasing a few tracks with lighter vocals.
Awesome episode🤘
Thanks brother
Hey Rob! this song is great, glad you made this video.. 😃 Cheers from Montréal!
Cheers TO Montreal!
To this day, I still miss Chimaira there so underrated
Songs sounds awesome Rob! I reckon if Mark screamed on the chorus it would be more of Chimaira song!
Fuck yeah!!!🤘 Always liked Mark's singing!🤘 Still a banger!!
Just discovered chimaira and this channel. Can't believe I missed this band back in the 2000s. You guys better get back together so I can catch you guys at a show! Awesome channel I'm super addicted. Also, just bought your dvd, I should be getting it sometime this week 🤘
Awesome Steven! That's all what I like to hear man!👊 Your DVD has shipped and should be arriving soon! Thanks, cheers, and welcome aboard man!
Very good song indeed
When you went to the solo it was so different than you
That solo was a manifestation and a way to cement how you feel about the whole situation I think
Mission accomplished 🤘🏻
Well said bro! 👊
I’m sure there’s already a bunch of comments like this but I agree with the decision to keep this off the album but glad that it was released on the deluxe album because it’s way too good to throw away. Songs rips but in comparison to the rest of the album it would stick out. Great video Rob!! 🤘🏻🎸🤘🏻
I dig it 🤘🏼
Its really catchy, love those octave riffs, (been experimenting with them lately), I can agree with you and then I can agree with a lot of the people commenting here, its like going from listening to Deicide or The Black Dahlia Murder to listening to Red Hot Chilli Peppers ( I Love RHCP), but the point is it does not mix with what I and everyone knows Chimaira for and what we love about Chimaira and why we are all fans!
Maybe release a 20th anniversary album and release the song as a bonus. Anyway you made the right choice you wanted to be like Slayer and have that aggression. Also the solo isn't bad it fits and it's in tune.
I love this song and think it would've been just fine on the album! 👍🏼
Hey Rob ! You are awesome ! Keep on rocking !
🤘
I agree with ya rob. Down again was a little soft too really but not as bad as this one. I do like the riffs but the singing style just not cutting it
thanks for making this video Rob! I still really like the song and actually could have brought you some commercial success had it been released as a single (and if had you laid down a better solo, ha! :) )
I never even knew that about this song, it's actually always sounded really good to me and one of my favorites from y'all (Chimaira) 🖤
Thank you for all of the videos, Chimaira will always be a favorite band of mine.
Haha cheers man! I don't remember that basketball gym show, but I certainly don't doubt it! We've played some unusual venues! 🤘
Dude this song rocks!!!!
Had the mother of pearl binding on your guitar really aged as much as it appears? It’s looking really yellow now. I like it!
Good question! I'm not sure if it's aged or if it's always looked like that. One of my RA-600 prototypes has a pick guard that looks yellow now too... Not sure if I just noticed it recently, or if this pearl stuff ages like old newspapers! haha
It's a great track, 1st time hearing it.
Almost 15k subs. Well deserved! Har work pays off.
Thanks dude! Hoping to hit that next milestone soon! And then onward and upward!🤘
When I heard this on that DVD I really liked it and I wish it was on the impossibility of reason record.
You were 100% right in 2002 Rob haha, but also this video is a really interesting insight. Also your chunky tone in this video is unreal. Were you using STL Tones plugin here?
Thanks dude and yes, still the STL!
Awesome vid, Robbie. This is not a bad tune at all, i have a feeling this could have been on a movies soundtrack (like Freddy vs Jason etc). But I agree with you, best left out of the album.
Respect Rob and his thoughts on the song, but I fuckin love this song!!
Sorry to dis the solo then man! Glad to hear you dig it! Maybe I'm just being to hard on myself and the song. 🤷🏻♂️
Such a sick tune, definitely a bonus or hidden track type of feel.
Dude so funny as I'm watch the tail end of the video I started writing a comment about Jim saying that u didn't have long hair and were scared then I see you put the clip in at the end haha I was laughing 😆 hard.
🤘🤣
Very surprised to see this. Admittedly I am a fan of this song and think Marks vocals are really strong on it. Thanks for the vid Rob!
Oh, and I guess I of course have to ask now, what about Indifferent to Suffering? 🤔🤔🤔
*GREAT SONG*
I thought that song sounded good. That opening riff is sick!!!! I remember being disappointed that song didn’t make the cut when I saw the doc years ago but I totally understand your thoughts on it.
Pretty cool video Rob. Kept thinking how the solo ish part sounds like you’re doing more than what you’re actually playing. Keep it up man. Love the content!
You are the man
👊
