Awesome! This one is always in rotation when I mention my favorites I noticed you refer to the notes by fret number rather than the note ("2" instead of "D", etc). And at times you play more "horizontal" (sticking to one string and moving up and down the board) than going across the strings. Just wondering if there was a particular reason (i also do both and everyone ive ever played with says its weird!) By the way, youre a natural teacher! Thanks for all the amazing content!
Thanks Stephen! I think I gravitated towards calling the frets by their number for two reasons. The first is tablature! Growing up, the metallica tab books I learned from did everything by number. The second reason is that when you play in a bunch of different tunings, a "D" is in a different place in each one. But "fret 2" is always fret 2 no matter what tuning you're in!🎸 Check out my new lesson! 👉 ruclips.net/video/Nh6OohNlbu0/видео.html
This was first song i heard of chimaira and instantly fell in love with the opening riff and the whole song. You're a talanted giuarist rob keep posting more here some lessons and stuff like these. Stay safe bro \m/
Probably my favorite solo in all of metal! Every note choice has so much taste and is so well thought out. Add the wah on top of that and its untouchable in my opinion. Screw shred! I know marc stated his favorite solo was heart of it all, which I do love, but it has nothing on this one!
Love your channel, Rob! The first song of yours I heard was Down Again and then I heard Salvation awhile after and was hooked. Love all of the Phrygian dominant scales in your solos and riffs, especially in Six. Would love a video playthrough on that if you haven’t done it already. 🔥
Great video again Rob. Love the first bit of the Salvation solo. The rhythm guitar part behind that solo is a bit tricky as well. Got the guitar tab book called Chimaira Guitar Collection Volume 1. Wish you could sign my copy of it!
Cool tips! I need to setup one of my guitars to the right tuning so I can learn how to play this riff, you have definitely inspired/ motivated me to get better at guitar 🤘
i catch flak for it all the time, but self-title was my favorite album by far. i only learned years after that basically all the songs were already written by Rob before you guys went into the studio for that album. Chimaira was definitely my first foray into a metalcore-type sound. I still remember hearing Rob playing the Resurrection main riff on the back of the tour bus during the Impossibility Of Reason tour dvd. While I absolutely love your writing, I could never get along with the short scale guitars you love tho lol. Ive always been partial to using baritones/long-scale guitars so everytime i come back to revisit this albunm and play through it, I get an even better workout :D
Great video. Been trying to teach myself some chimaira stuff even though its beyond my skill level. Some riffs here and there from Empire and Nothing Remains etc. This helps me a lot. I'm glad the youtube and the Patreon page brought us back together. I will always be a huge supporter of your art. Take care my friend.
Thanks man, I started following in on the guitar setups, can you show us how to get the perfect action, and also if you use the caged system when writing song, and how to identify what key a song is in and how to play with it.
Surely not? The Chimaira album with Austin on drums was the worst by a long way, because he overplays so much. So far removed from the powerful, straight up groove that Talley and Andols brought. Austin is a GREAT drummer, don't get me wrong. I saw Chimaira live with him and even played a show with that final lineup and he was insanely tight (better live than Andols, easily), but his style just wasn't right. Talleys drumming is what makes the self titled so killer.
Perfect ! Always appreciate those videos. Even when you think you nail the song you still might learn something to improve your playing. I really hope you'll do more like this one, or some more playthrough (including The Elite or The Disaster). You know... just sayin' :)

I swear the self titled is one of the most bangin metal releases ever. All you can eat buffet of tasty riffs, licks, and solos. Also when you're not working on a certain project and just jammin what tuning do you find yourself going to?
Cool video !! Recognize your sound in a second 🤘. Moreover since this album, your guitar sound started to be less mid scooped isn't it? Is there a reason ? More videos like this 🙏
Hey Rob! Quick question, I didn't see this covered on this video or in the comments section (or maybe it's obvious and I'm just slow) but it sounds like you're is using an octave pedal in the intro on the album. Any tips on how to setup the octaver to achieve a similar sound? Sounds like just 1 octave to my ear but I could be wrong. Did you lightly blend it? Because it doesn't sound very pronounced. Amazing riff though! In the Top 5 of your riffs for me for sure! Thanks again for all the material you give us!! 🍻
Yeah dude! I'm using a digitech whammy to achieve this effect. I'm pretty sure it's set to 1 octave up like you assumed. I'd say the effect is full on, since the whammy pedal doesn't have any sort of mix knob. Hope that helps!🤘
@@RobArnoldWorld You are a gentleman and a scholar as always, sir! Thank you so much for sacrificing a few minutes to read and answer a lot of the questions from your subscribers! I hope other artists follow your example down the line. It just shows that you're still capable of remembering what it feels like to be a super fan of bands/guitarists, and shows you care enough to give those fans of Yours/Chimaira/SixFeetUnder/ the interaction they could only dream of. 🍻
Thanks for sharing with us and putting aside some time for these sorta vids. Keep them coming. We love it. Id love to hear what you think about my favorite non usa based band Soilwork. They are so amazing and inspiring such talent and great players in that band over the years. Id love to hear some stories about them and you guys back in the day. As we all know Ricky was a temp replacement for both your bands at one point. Any road stories or expirences with those Swedish metal masters?
@@RobArnoldWorld Cheers! Peter ( from soilwork... lol) and the rest of the dudes in Chimaira used to have some epic HALO battles on the bus back in the day if I'm not mistaken. Melting faces on stage and getting killing sprees on the bus!
One thing I'd like to ask and that is could this be played in a standard E tuning and I'll guess that you'll say no. Because It wouldn't sound the same as it does on the album.
I wouldn't say no because it wouldn't sound the same, but because there are a lot of open notes in this song, which are much lower than standard E is capable of. The notes just don't exist in E. You could however, transpose them to the higher octave.
A BEGINNER/RELEARNING TIP FOR OUR FUTURE 100k @RobArnoldWorld #RobArnoldWorld SUBS : 👇 👇 👇 Not all of us can practice/play "MUSIC" all day or as much as some.. So pick a tip or tutorial video and while you're working or whatever.. LISTEN to the teacher. LISTEN to the rhythm, the beat... Tap your fingers.. HUM the sound. So when you can physically practice, you have half the work dialed in!
Great video as always rob! I swear one thing you don't get enough credit for and I rarely hear being mentioned is how excellent your vibrato is, it seems like a big part of your sound (certainly with this riff) and it's just phenomenal. I think you, Chris Amott and Jeff Loomis have my favourite vibrato in metal, all very different but very unique.
Totally appreciate that man! 👊 I worked hard on it! I talk a little about it in my Sweating Bullets tips and tricks lesson if you feel like checking that out!🤘

could you show how to build your preset using Digitech GSP1101
I swear the self titled is one of the most bangin metal releases ever. All you can eat buffet of tasty riffs, licks, and solos. Also when you're not working on a certain project and just jammin what tuning do you find yourself going to?
Right on!🤘 Drop C is my preferred tuning, and what I like to jam in. Second favorite is E standard!
Welp, I'm off to find a bunch of Chimaira tunes to jam the rest of the afternoon.
💪
Cool video !! Recognize your sound in a second 🤘. Moreover since this album, your guitar sound started to be less mid scooped isn't it? Is there a reason ?
More videos like this 🙏
🤘 I've always kept my mids around 6 or 7 o'clock. I like the clarity
@@RobArnoldWorld thanks a lot 😇
Hey man you do have any
drum-less instrumentals you want to share?? Big fan since I was 15 turning 28 next month
@@mrwooten3618 Aye cheers bro!👊

Thanks for sharing with us and putting aside some time for these sorta vids. Keep them coming. We love it. Id love to hear what you think about my favorite non usa based band Soilwork. They are so amazing and inspiring such talent and great players in that band over the years. Id love to hear some stories about them and you guys back in the day. As we all know Ricky was a temp replacement for both your bands at one point. Any road stories or expirences with those Swedish metal masters?
Right on! Love the Soilwork guys! Many great memories and shows together. Maybe I'll tell some stories on the show!🤘

@workdiggitz I know some time has passed, but here you go! ruclips.net/video/xor_IAKf8TA/видео.html
Hit me with it.
Am I right if I was playing this in a standard E tuning. Instead of starting off on the 5th fret. To start it off on the 3rd fret ?
I don't think so it can be played in E.
can I buy your signature guitar?
Unfortunately they're no longer in production. But they pop up on eBay from time to time!
A BEGINNER/RELEARNING TIP FOR OUR FUTURE 100k @RobArnoldWorld #RobArnoldWorld SUBS : 👇 👇 👇
Not all of us can practice/play "MUSIC" all day or as much as some.. So pick a tip or tutorial video and while you're working or whatever.. LISTEN to the teacher. LISTEN to the rhythm, the beat... Tap your fingers.. HUM the sound. So when you can physically practice, you have half the work dialed in!
👊😎
Zer0 dislikes, best song ever

Great video as always rob! I swear one thing you don't get enough credit for and I rarely hear being mentioned is how excellent your vibrato is, it seems like a big part of your sound (certainly with this riff) and it's just phenomenal.
I think you, Chris Amott and Jeff Loomis have my favourite vibrato in metal, all very different but very unique.
Totally appreciate that man! 👊 I worked hard on it! I talk a little about it in my Sweating Bullets tips and tricks lesson if you feel like checking that out!🤘
@@RobArnoldWorld Oh I didn't see that video, thanks so much, better check it out right away!!
