rob, you are far too kind. they aren't "easy", they're more simpler riffs. it's not the tabs, it's how you play them. they are heavy and aggressive and just a hammer to the face. the key to a good riff, and yours are great riffs, is pick attack and clarity, the accents and the timing. this should be mandatory viewing for any younger guitarist that wants to learn how to write killer riffs. it's not how many notes yo play, or how many octaves you span, or techniques you include. it's how you play them. I remember chimaira from way back. I'm an old guy, old school thrash and death, and always loved the newer metal approach you took, and hw you never fit into a specific genre. just a blend of old and new. I saw you guys back in 2007ish, can't quite remember exactly, it's been alot years. but you guys just killed it. thanks for this video. it's really inspiring to write chimaira style riffs. ain't as easy as it seems.
“Try to Survive” is my favorite low key banger ever written. If you’re close to my age and grew up on Metallica, Slayer, Sepultura, etc., you remember bands’ tapes’ “B Sides.” By no means “throwaways,” but rarely got the same play time as the “A Side” banger (notwithstanding hair metal’s final track that was generally a ballad). This was that “B Side” track but just smacked you in the face. A crispy groove that woke you up!
I can’t describe how instrumental learning Chimaira songs was in developing my guitar chops. From personal experience, all of the riffs in this video are GREAT “beginner” type riffs. Heck, even all of these full songs are good initial ones to target when trying to learn your first full metal songs. Try to Survive is still one of the few riffs I play every time I pick up a guitar for a good warm up. With that said, there’s plenty of “non easy” Chimaira songs that equally helped develop my chops. Thanks Rob!
Rob’s my guy. Favorite ever. And the best credit I could give to anyone? He made me pick up my six string after almost a decade! Anyway, anyone notice Rob loves to play with the 11th fret? Especially with low-E string?!?!?! It always works in his drop-C riffs!
Power trip is still my favorite warmup riff, I love the Cleansation riff you chose, I also like the chorus riff in that song too. Nothing Remains is also fun for me. All downstrokes though 😯

Awesome! I was looking forward for this one since you announced it a couple days ago! 🤘🏻 It's gonna be so much fun jamming these riffs on my Jackson plugged into the mini Peavey 6505, can't wait! I also wanna point out how much cool those riffs and their respective songs are. Sometimes the beauty and strength of a song lies in its simplicity, in the way it gets to you without having to blow up your damn brain in the meantime. Songs like Down Again or Losing Your Mind (great tunes, they are helping me so much in dealing with depression, very meaningful music and lyrics) but also no-frills smack in the face crushers like Pure Hatred and Power Trip are perfect examples in catchy, right to the point and effective songwriting IMO! There's much to enjoy and learn, both for an avid metal listener or a guitar player and composer still on his learning curve. Simple doesn't necessarily mean cheap and unimaginative, it can also reveal a great musicality sense and a flair for songs that just fuckin' work! Thanks as always for the quality content you put out and for being an all'around great musician and genuine cool dude with your fans and followers! Cheers Rob, happy holidays! 🤘🏻
