I'm surprised they didn't notice that with the revolver, the character is having to manually revolve the cylinder. If you were making a makeshift revolver, that is the most likely thing you would make, because that sort of auto-revolving mechanism would be a bit difficult to make in a post-apocalyptic scenario. Very awesome attention to detail.
He only does that with the 3 Round Cylinder. They need to give the guys the Context given by the game as well. In the first and second metro games, a character actually says that the Bastard gun jams a lot and over heats so it seems the devs know about how bad the gun may be
Yeah, the Bastard Gun is, well, a Bastard. But it's cheap and super easy to bang out, much like the Sterling or the Sten, so everyone just kinda goes "Yeah it sucks but it works more often then not so it's whatever"
Oh hey, with the 3-round cylinder the character is using his left thumb to physically push the next cylinder into position, so yes he's got the 'half timing' issue but has a post-apocalyptic workaround: just push it into place lol
3:51 An interesting point. During WW2 in the USSR, silencers were installed on Nagant revolvers and they worked correctly on these revolvers. The drum with cartridges in the Nagan was pressed against the barrel when fired and there was no gap through which the powder gases could escape.
I wrote this in another comment here as well, in game Artyom has a whole paragraph about every gun you pick up. So they do use the Nagant Gas Seal system so it can effectively use a Suppressor but they make custom Nagant style rounds in .44 Magnum for more oomph against the Muties. They really need to give the guys in those vids the context provided by the game as well.
There's also special telescoped ammo involved. In the first two metro games, the ammo looked more like conventional .44 mag, but they changed it in Exodus so it looks more like Nagant ammo.
The character in Metro Exodus is actually special forces. They also mentioned jamming with the bastard gun, and it actually does jam a lot, that is why its called the bastard gun.

There's actually a gameplay mechanic behind the open magazines: if you have the game on the highest difficult it disables the UI and the open mags are the only way to see how many shots you have left.
I highly suggest starting at the remasters of the first two games and making your way to Exodus if you haven't played them. They all hold up and have similar levels of attention to detail. I love those games. So cinematic and immersive
Yeah I bought exodus but quit playing when every time I would open the map while in a vehicle my head would go through the roof of the car and I couldn't get out of the car without quitting the game and reloading. Super well made.
I like how they're constantly noticing how easy it would be for all these guns to get dirty, causing jams and such. That's actually an in-game mechanic: the more you use a weapon, the dirtier it gets, causing it to jam and overheat more often. When you get back to a safe camp area, you can clean the weapon to get rid of that problem, at least until you gunk it up again, so the devs were very aware of that. The larger magazines in fact were often more prone to jams, because of that problem, while the smaller ones tended to be more reliable because they were actual military style magazines, as opposed to, say, a metal tin that was "roughly" the right size for bullets that someone put a spring in and prayed that it worked. Also, about the air gun, yes the weapon damage is dependent on the air pressure. If the air pressure is in the yellow you're going to be doing crap damage, while if you pump it into the green you're going to be doing enough damage to reliably kill as long as you're getting head shots with it. You can over-pump it into the red to boost the damage, but the seals aren't quite good enough, so it'll slowly leak air pressure until it goes back into the green, so you only do that right before you're ready to fire on your targets. And you were correct again, it's used as a budget weapon, or a stealth weapon. It's very quite do to no igniting ammo or anything, and the ammo is much cheaper to get (you just need a minimal amount of scrap metal to make the ammo, while normal bullets require a little more scrap + chemicals to make the powder, if I recall). I mostly used it as a stealth close/medium range sniper rifle type thing, or if you were running low on ammo on low threat enemies, so you could save your real ammo for dangerous situations.
Actually, they're taking about the guns getting dirty from debris rather than just fowling from use. Carbon buildup from usage would stop a gun, but not that quickly. For example, I own an AK I've never cleaned once, but it's never jammed on me. I don't often go crawling though mud pits with it, though. If mud ever gets into the trigger or the lockup, I'm certain it'll stop. The jamming mechanic should happen when you get into mud or something, not just after use.
@@lttarzanman6452 I agree, it's not perfectly realistic, but it's hard to actually simulate that level of "how dirty, exactly, is the nuclear apocalypse, and how quickly would home-made guns jam in it?" Considering most of the guns in Metro are either literally homemade, or guns that survived an actual nuclear apocalypse, with no replacement parts or even cleaning supplies being made, I think it works as a mechanic. Also keep in mind you're firing normal, good ammunition, while the ammo they're using in the Metro games are homemade, and not the kind of homemade we can currently do. After all, with no industry left since everything above ground was gone, who's even making the gunpowder? It's probably dirty as hell, compared to modern ammo.
@@kedolan4992 It has been a little while since last I played exodus, but I seem to remember the condition of the gun getting significantly worse after you fall in water or crawl through mud or sand. Like I believe the weapon's jam chance increased faster from environment than usage.
19:05 yes, the Tikhar/air gun is quiet in game, and yes, it loses its effectiveness in like 6-8 shots if it's stock. Colonel Miller has a gauss version of the Tikhar by the end of the game and you get to use that.
Yeah, and I have to pump it every 2-4 shots just so it can efficiently headshot someone on Ranger Hardore But on the upside, it's the most silent weapon of them all, since in this game, suppressors actually work realistically, in that they just soften the noise but are nowhere near completely silent
The Metro series is so legendary. It deserves more attention and commercializing than it got. I've read on an online article, that a "[{THIRD METRO}]" ie: sorry 'edited correction'= actually the [-FOURTH METRO-] is in the works. It read that the developers are designing it to allow for co-op play as well. Would be pretty cool to stand guard while your buddy is in their backpack crafting and sorting supplies. I wish VR games would take the Metro Gun Customization Formula and go wild with it.
Wait do they have different stories? Because when I looked it up, an article said one was just a graphical enhancement of the other as the only difference. If they are completely different then I’m missing out on another Metro and am getting pretty pissed right now. So for my mental stabilities sake, are the games stories completely different? Which means I get to have more metro.
The Tikhar is a weapon I've always kept in my inventory in every playthrough and never equipped a suppressor on any of my other weapons. Silent, hair trigger, accurate, and craftable ammo on the go, and the stopping power at full pressure? A stroke of genius. truly one of the best guns to have if you're playing stealthy in Metro
im fairly new to the game, so maybe i just haven’t got the best configs/experience, but i find the tikhar extremely unreliable. if i run outta rifle/shotgun ammo when i’m surrounded by mutants or enemies the tikhar only puts enough shots out to kill one or two before it runs outta pressure! and having to pump that thing while running is just not effective or safe. i basically only use it if i have no other ammo left. any tips?
8:47 These kinds of magazines did exist. They were sometimes known as "harmonica guns" because of the profile. So the game didn't just base it on side-loading magazines, but on real pre-WWI and a few WWI weapons 😊
It reminds me quite a lot of the Benet Mercie machine gun, it fed from an open side loading tray or tape, it looked quite a lot like a solid, inflexible belt type thing.
"It doesn't have to be silent it's post apocalyptic world" Best and often only defense in this game is stealth (especially on hardcore ranger). U don't want to make big bang when you only have 7 bullets and you need 8 to kill anything that's running

Great video! When it comes to the British smgs I believe they adopted the sten first. The Sterling was a post war modernization based on the sten evolution.
The French GIGN used a "sniper" version of the excellent MR73 .357 Magnum revolver. It had a scope mounted directly to the top of the frame, an 8" barrel, and, a bi-pod.
And even to this day, it has never been officially discarded meaning that there might still be GIGN operatives who carry the revolver and the conversion kit so that they can quickly prepare a mid-ranged sniping weapon whenever the situation requires.

I'm really sad that they didn't realize that it was an AK 74 and not a 47. it's a dead giveaway from the lesser mag curve to the more steep gas block and the modern muzzle break. Especially on the no dust cover clip where it had a krink front on it.
I think he was going more for the "A" buffalo part. As in, you're good for 1-2 shots, but after that you're going to be out of compressed air/the pressure would be too low. At least that's what I think he was getting at, since he mentioned you'd need a big ass tank of compressed gas.
@@kedolan4992 tichar defeats that criticism with a manual air pump though, the tichar functions similarly to old pump up bb guns where you compress the air rather than using a removable tank. And there's also leakage issues with the base model that have to be fixed with upgrades so you can retain air pressure.
@@ralcogaming7674 Oh I know, I've played all 3 Metro games, I was just saying that they were talking about real air rifles, that exist in the modern world, and how they're not really practical (I have no idea if that's true or not, just that they were saying that).

Fun fact: the metro revolver is based on the Nagant Revolver. The difference is it’s chambered in .44 mag instead of .357 this is this way because they need the stopping power to kill the mutants. The Tikhar rifle is a full auto airgun that requires you to pump it in order to make it do lethal damage. Also fun fact: The main character of the metro games is part of the Spartan Order. They’re literally the remnants of Spetsnaz, and Russian Airborne. They’re a Small faction that kicks ass and takes whatever they need.
Thoughts on doing a reaction to Hotdogs Horseshoes and Hand Grenades (H3VR)? contains details that you wouldn't find in other games (spas-12 switch between pump and semi-auto, mp5sd makes the rounds subsonic, low power shotgun shells (dragon's breath) won't cycle in some shotguns, flinklock pistol blows up if overfilled with powder, SSA revolver will go off if the hammer is hit on a live round)
21:38 I actually have one of those pistol crossbows, they're unbelievably cheap, (but they get the price back on the bolts, those are garbage so you need to buy new semi-regularly) and it's actually pretty powerful, like you'd think it's some dumb toy, but nah, this thing could kill a person pretty easily, bolt can just low-key fly through a pineapple from bottom to leafs, it's kinda scary. But also it's really hard to pull actually, the cocking lever in the stock makes it much easier, but I still usually sort of brace it against my knee. When kids from the family want to shoot it I always tell them "Only if you can load it." And it usually filters out the ones too young to use it even with me watching over. I also made myself a makeshift foregrip because it's just really top heavy, and if you hold it just as it is in the front you're risking getting your fingers struck by the string which shouldn't kill you, but I can tell you it hurts like a bitch. With that foregrip it's like primitively easy to use really, it makes it super stable
The guy in the green shirt is so knowledgeable I love it. Some people might think he's talking too much but I enjoyed it I am fascinated by firearms and you can tell he is as well
For the Tikhar, yes, the more you pump, the more damage it does and with each shot the pressure drops so you have to keep pumping it. There's an upgrade that stops air from leaking when not shooting so it can stay at top damage but before the upgrade it will just keep leaking air so you would have to keep pumping it even when not using it just so you can be ready for a fight, it was annoying lol
If you like M.E.T.R.O., you might also dig S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 1:22 Of course, gotta have the snapping shut of the revolver's cylinder. So Hollywood. 7:04 The cross-thumb technique is only useful with single-action revolvers or while firing double-actions with exposed hammers single-action style. 11:40 AK-74. 5.45 is the standard caliber in the world of M.E.T.R.O. 13:54 The Vz.58 has that. Of course, no one seems to understand that they're called "emergency" reloads for a reason. 16:23 The German word for that is "vierling." A triple-barrel one would be a "drilling." The more common types are combination guns, but since they're custom made, they could also be all shotgun barrels or all rifle barrels. 17:51 Yes. In the early 1900s, there were big-bore air guns that could be used to take big game. In the world of M.E.T.R.O., they use 15mm ball bearings which are comparable in size to 20-gauge slugs (15.6mm). 21:38 I have one of those. They're not meant to be used as weapons. They're just for recreational target shooting. The crossbow from Resident Evil 2 was based on one of those. It doesn't look right, though, because it looks like a standard-size crossbow, so the charging handle looks like it should be acting as stock. Of course, the problem with that is that it's not meant to be used that way.
Speaking of Star Wars, I'm pretty sure the ones at 9:14 (or something similar, I'm not a gun person) was the basis for the storm troppers E-11 blaster rifle.
On the point of the gases coming out the side on the revolver cause from the fact it is able to be suppressed and it's set in russia it's likely the revolver is based on the nagant revolver that has it's rounds create a seal so no gases out the side of the cylinder
I heard that one of the main guys responsible for making the game is a real "gun nut", so he absolutely wanted all the guns to have plausible mechanisms to work as depicted. For the air gun (Tikhar is its name), the pump action to add air back in is used for the velocity of the beads that are fired. Thus, adding range that is lost over time and the speed in which said projectiles hit something. Also adding that this thing is church mouse quiet. Even with your suppressed firearms, the air gun makes almost no noise. I have this game and its two remastered prequels on XBOX One and can attest. Anyone else that's played this game, regardless of platform, can also attest.
In last light my load out was simple, tichar was my main gun, duplet was cqc, and the kalash was my "oh shit" rifle, you really needed silence in metro and tichar was so quiet in game that one could legitimately shoot one of 2 people standing 2 feet apart and the other guy wouldn't know.

"automatically " - Well, it uses energy generated by your trigger finger, so not exactly automatically. (Nagant double-action is for people with really strong index fingers).
Fun fact about revolvers and the gap between Barrel and cylinder, Which is also the reason you don't see all too many suppressed revolvers.. Nagant m1895, though it had a real stiff trigger.. However, that's because prior to firing the cylinder presses up against the barrel really hard forming a tight enough seal to allow it to be surpressed effectively.
For the Tikhar, or the air gun, the lever is this suck in more air to compress it into the bottle at the back of the stalk, and once the compressed air is at the red, you are able to shoot at a higher velocity at your enemies.
To clarify the kalash is based off the Ak74 being chambered in 5.45x39 not the 47 being 7.62x39. Easy to tell is the curve in the magazine. 5.45x39 is way more commonly used in Russia today vs 7.62. Btw my back history is I’ve been in the gun industry for 8 years and in the night vision side of the industry for a few years.
I have to say, that Paul is probably the most versed in guns. He knows X amount of models from his head. And has probably the most knowledge of the obscure.
19:16 yes, the tikhar rifle does get more damage the more pressure there is. Every shot you fire makes you lose pressure. The gauge shows you how much pressure you have. Green is where it is optimal, and get regular damage. Orange on the left of the green shows that it is losing pressure, and will do less damage. You overpump it, and the needle goes to the right, in the red. If it is in the red, you get extra damage and can fire as fast as you want without losing pressure every shot, but the red pressure levels down to the green over time. There is a modification you can get, called the airtight canister, which makes the red an extension to the green with the damage bonus, giving a good reason to overpump.
Paul, Cameron and Israel should be interested in watching DayZ. There's a LOT of guns to cover, that we don't have to go into modded guns (especially since they don't have polished animations and it doesn't look right overall). They can see some shootouts, some modifications etc.
Fun fact. The spear guns from the 1910s to the 1940s was a martini Henry rifle design that used a blank powder shot covered with a wax covered paper cap. You loaded the round then put in the spear. I know this becuse I got to fire one.:) It was so cool.^^ It was a model from 1911 and was used on schooners and fishing ships on the Massachusetts cape to fire rope to tether there ship or for men to hold onto if the ship was sinking.
The team behind Metro are amazing, their attention to details in the weaponry is awesome, it shows the difference between Metro and other FPS, the complete difference between them haha.. I love Metro 👍🔥
Iirc the Metro revolver was based off the M1895 Nagant revolver, which had a self sealing breech. This was caused by the timing gears actuating the cylinder forwards onto a barrel lug whenever the cylinder bore lined up, and closed off the cylinder gap completely each time the revolver was fired. It's also why the Nagant revolver is the only revolver that can feasibly be fitted with a suppressor.
It says in the game that the revolver is based on the Nagant, with a cylinder that cams forward after cycling to create a gas seel . No external gas release, no danger to your forward hand in carbine configuration, and full suppression when you mount a silencer.
To answer - yes, the Tikhar air rifle can be overpressurised, and it does increase your damage, but it's only six shots you can get off before it drops to standard pressure and without a specific upgrade, the overpressurised gas will leak out. It's silent though, and because it fires simple ball bearings, the ammo is cheap and easy to craft. Also, fun fact - arguably one of the most powerful weapons in the game if you load it with alternate incendiary rounds, roasts mutants real good :D
11:38 Guys, it's AK-74M (Kalash), not AK-47. You can tell it's a 74 cuz of near straight banana magazine, its distinct compensator and the recoil on it. There is no 7.62x39 in Metro universe.
The Tikhar (air gun) does do more damage when the air pressure is higher, but it will begin leaking out until the needle gets to the top of the green on the air pressure gauge if you aren’t using the Airtight Pneumatic System attachment
so guys i think the revolver the nagana revolver the cylinder will actually go forward and close it self to make complete seal but it looks like its been heavily modified so im not completely sure
It was so interesting to listen to these two talk about guns! If you want a difficult, but totally worth it experience of Metro: Exodus, I'd highly recommend the hard difficulty, it takes away gui like ammo, HP, and gas mask filter counters and makes everything so much more tactical and rewarding. Its Ironic how the two guns the two concluded would be a bad choice (Bastard and Tikhar) were the two most versatile weapons in hard mode simply because you could see how many bullets you had in the magazine or how much air compression you had left. I may be biased for the Bastard gun, but make no mistake, bastard guns quickly becoming dirty and jamming constantly is a very real, common threat! 😅
The Metro universe has always interested me. I love the survival horror aspect, especially of the first game. If you're on the hardest difficulty and running low on ammo, you have the option of using the military grade rounds, which do more damage but are also the game's currency. I thought that was always an awesome concept and made you want to conserve ammo whenever possible
And Lewis and clark did in fact take an air rifle with them on there voyage. The only thing I’d add is the Lancaster is not a shot gun just a normal pistol.

@@comradepickles7607 You do know there have been tons of patches and stuff right?
@@kedolan4992 Yeah, I guess you're right. I kinda forgot about the setting of the game.
@@kedolan4992 It has been a little while since last I played exodus, but I seem to remember the condition of the gun getting significantly worse after you fall in water or crawl through mud or sand. Like I believe the weapon's jam chance increased faster from environment than usage.

Nice to see an expert that seems like they actually know what's up
21:38 I actually have one of those pistol crossbows, they're unbelievably cheap, (but they get the price back on the bolts, those are garbage so you need to buy new semi-regularly) and it's actually pretty powerful, like you'd think it's some dumb toy, but nah, this thing could kill a person pretty easily, bolt can just low-key fly through a pineapple from bottom to leafs, it's kinda scary.
A suprise to see metro here but great video, hope total recoil can be weekly release like this month cause i cant get enough XD

11:40 AK-74. 5.45 is the standard caliber in the world of M.E.T.R.O.
13:54 The Vz.58 has that. It also comes in two different calibers IRL, so a 5.45 version wouldn't be farfetched at all.

14:56 Snorks in a game other than S.T.A.L.K.E.R.?!
15:19 The trend in games (more like a trope) is to have all reload animations based on emergency reloads.

For the air gun (Tikhar is its name), the pump action to add air back in is used for the velocity of the beads that are fired. wouldnt the revolver be a nagant revolver where it automatically seals the gap between cylinder and barrel when you fire?
It isn't a Nagant as it's home-made but in the lore it uses that mechanism.
"automatically " - Well, it uses energy generated by your trigger finger, so not exactly automatically. (Nagant double-action is for people with really strong index fingers).
@@randomnobodovsky3692 Literal 20lb double action trigger. It's essentially single action because good luck accurately firing that.
Love this series, I hope it stays on Gamology for a long time!

I have to say, that Paul is probably the most versed in guns. He knows X amount of models from his head. And has probably the most knowledge of the obscure.
You may like Ian's channel, on 'Forgotten Weapons.'
I know this becuse I got to fire one.:)
It was so cool.^^
It was a model from 1911 and was used on schooners and fishing ships on the Massachusetts cape to fire rope to tether there ship or for men to hold onto if the ship was sinking.
Man imagine having all those cylinders ignite and basically blow up six shots at once right in your face and hands. Fuck all that.
You could effectively suppress the Nagant 1895, since the cylinder pressed forward to the barrel.
Man the editor had a field day on this one, great video.
11:38 Guys, it's AK-74M (Kalash), not AK-47. You can tell it's a 74 cuz of near straight banana magazine, its distinct compensator and the recoil on it. There is no 7.62x39 in Metro universe.
18:52 it's the same kind of magazine as the pp-19's magazine , just if you're wondering
I appreciate the information, thank you!
Damn, he even pulled out the clint smith shotgun quote, respect.
Thank you! Clint's a legend!
The Tikhar (air gun) does do more damage when the air pressure is higher, but it will begin leaking out until the needle gets to the top of the green on the air pressure gauge if you aren’t using the Airtight Pneumatic System attachment
The Flux Defense Sig pistol stuff is great! I didn´t have a clue about them before this.
so guys i think the revolver the nagana revolver the cylinder will actually go forward and close it self to make complete seal but it looks like its been heavily modified so im not completely sure
Another great episode
