    I like them both but the deciding factor for me was how my heel felt in them. I ended up going with the Nano X.

    Thanks so much for this. I just got the nano x ordered. I'm very excited to try them out for squats rather than using my ultraboosts or other running shoe.

    After owning the Nano 6, 8, 9 (I skipped the 7s), I got myself some Metcon 5s only to find out I like the design but find that they are horrible for running and have a very tight toe box where the Nano's were also pretty bad for running but at least have enough room in front (for my type of foot...). Now I got the Nano X'es and I find them to be my best all-round workout shoe yet. They look bulkier but don't feel as such, they are smoother for running (short distances) and are also very grippy for sled push/pull work. The only downside is that they top looks odd when you tie the laces a bit more tight, it looks like it has too much fabric there... Room for improvement for the Nano XI's... :)

      Cool! I do like the Nano X as well. Definitely like the toe room up front.

    Important difference not covered here. The metcon has all if it’s padding in a removable insole whereas the Reebok has the padding built into the shoe and the insole is just a thin cover. This makes a huge difference for anyone using an orthotic. I have a 3/4 length orthotic and so if I remove the insole on the Nike shoe and put in my orthotic there is zero padding left over for the shoe rendering it mostly useless for running although it still works well for The rest of CrossFit activities. For the Reebok, I can remove the thin slip cover insert, put in my custom orthotic and it works perfectly. Especially happy that the collar is so high because my custom orthotic does take up space.

    You can absolutely drop the 8mm heel lift in any shoe. I do it everyday. Works great on top of the insole or under.

  • @DRM1891

    Those Nano X look a bit bulky to me...when I first saw a picture of them I thought they were legacy lifters! I’m sure they’re great to wear though.
    Still have my old Nano 8’s and love them. Also have a pair of Metcon 4’s, which I equally love. For me, the Nano’s are more flexible and better for more mobile workouts, but I prefer the Metcons for stability while doing squats/ deadlifts etc. Both great shoes.

    I do bodybuilding and powerlifting workouts and I've had problems with metcons separating at the base. So the rubber from the outsole (that extends to the side of the shoe) near the toebox fails when repeadedly doing heavy toe flexion exercises, especially calf raises. I just bought the nano x and do not anticipate that problem, as they seem to absorb that flexion better.

    I tried both of these and found the nano sizing to be a bit weird. The 6 was too small and my big toes pushed the ends doing burpees or lunges but the 6.5 were massive. Metcons fit perfect in a 6.5 (normally a 6 in nike) and i love them

    I have both but, for me the metcons win because they're not as prone to slipping (at least in my experience) while lifting heavy weights as the nanos are

    I got a pair of Nano X and find them too wide for me...
    would metcon 6 fit better for me? And how about the heel on them? Nano X is not too hard so not suitable for squating.
    Maybe metcon 6 would do better for squating with the inserts they come with??
    And for deadlifting... with no inserts, how about the heels?

    • @fitatmidlife927
      @fitatmidlife927  3 года назад +1

      Yes, Metcon 6 run narrow (IMO). Definitely not as wide as Nano X. Metcon 6 heel is softer than the Nano X though. If you want a firmer heel than the Nano X you are going to have to go with an Oly Lifter shoe, IMO. I do a lot of my lifting in Metcon 6. It's not too soft for me. I deadlift in the 350 lb range, but don't really squat heavy any more.

    I've worn Metcons for years. Gave the Nano's a shot last year just for something different...just ordered the new Metcons. A superior shoe in every way for my foot and training style. One thing I noticed right off the bat is the grip of the sole...Metcons absolutely smash Nano's for this. Doing calf raises for instance I constantly have to adjust my toes after a few reps as they slip in the Nano's but no slipping at all with that sticky 004. Also if Nano's have a very slightly wet sole they slip n slide like crazy.

    • @fitatmidlife927
      @fitatmidlife927  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for the feedback. I have heard some people say Metcons not good for high repetition / heavy calf raises, that the material in the sole separates. Hopefully that is fixed in the 6. If you should experience that, please let me know.

      I agree because back when I was in the military a few years ago I used the nano 8s and during a power squat of about 300lbs that I did about 2 times a week, my left leg slipped on either sweat or water on the rough rubber gym floor causing me to get seriously injured. Ever since, I have recommended to not use nanos 1-8 to avoid this potential slipping. Don't get me wrong, the nano 9 and X are better with this but, the metcons 5 and 6 beat them out as far as safely lifting heavy is concerned at least in my experience. Also I have pretty big feet (size 14-15).

  • @thesuppcollector

    This may be an obscure fit but is there a shoe that can fit that priority? That can be the best when im squatting but allows me to jog 20 minutes on the treadmill and play 30 minutes on the basketball court. What’s the best fit?

    Great in-depth video comparison! I wondered if I could have your advice please? I've bought CrossFit shoes for the first time ever, and gone for the Nano X as they're currently on sale.
    In my normal size - the length is ok, 1/2 inch between the end of my longest toe and the tip of the shoe - but the upper is constantly pressing onto the top of my big toe. In the next half size up - there is no contact with the upper, but the space between the end of my big toe and the end of the shoe is over 1 inch.
    The sizing feels weird and I'm not sure which size to go for. Just wondered if anyone else found this with the Nano X? Thanks

    Hi! I'm late to the party. I got heel slip as well on the Metcon 6, so I did some research and found another way to tie my shoes ("lace lock") which solved the issue for me! I will leave a link to the video where I found it, and it's skipped to the part where he demonstrates the "lace lock": ruclips.net/video/1vT_EJu-Afc/видео.html

      I go 1/2 size up on the Metcon. So my Nano X is 11, but the Metcon 5/6 I wear 11.5. It really depends on if you have wide feet or not. I don't know if my feet are wide, but Metcon 6 in normal size is too cramped in the forefoot. Hope that helps - but everybody's feet can be slightly different.
