Chester will forever be irreplaceable, but this new chapter for Linkin Park feels like the perfect way to honor him. Emily and the band sound incredible!
In 2017 when Chester took his own life, I was fighting body and soul against stage 3 cancer while my wife was 5 months pregnant, learn on the TV news that the singer of your favorite band died is like living a mourning while your body is dying. So to see the rebirth of Linkin Park with Emily Armstrong, for me it is like living a second Renaissance, I am very moved
It was his choice. He's distanced himself from the band for years. He wasn't around by his own choice for the papercuts release or hybrid theory rerelease
I love how Mike has had the courage to write a song, step back and let Emily's talent shine through. Her voice is amazing and I am SO happy Linkin Park are back and making incredible music again!
None will ever replace Chester. It took the band 7 years to move on, we need to move on as well. Chester would be proud. Welcome Emily to the LP family ❤ Can't wait for the new album! 🙏
Ive never heard of Emily but I got goosebumps when she started screaming. No one can ever replace Chester but she's paying tribute in such a beautiful and impressive way
Smartest decision they made. Trying to replace him with any guy would be career suicide because they will never live up to expectations. Going a completely different route allows a new chapter to start.
@@vict1435Exactly. A guy would always be in Chester’s shadow. A girl is a new and unpaved path and cannot be compared in the same way. Emily has a clean slate. And she looks like a great choice 🔥
Yeah but not everyone agrees with that apparently. She sounds good but idk if they will reach the levels of Chester fronted LP. We'll see. I think I need to get used to it, I will be buying the album for sure, been a fan for over 20 years now.
Mike. You bastard. You made a 46 year old man cry. Great song, Emily roars like a lion and it's amazing that I feel like I can feel Chester roaring in the background. Thank you for coming back.
@RagingKabuto i mean not even about real or fake fans, it's just fans who cannot move on. They still have their pain held on for so long, that can't be healthy. Prodigy also had a few concerts recently after having lost one of their main frontmen, even though they always leave room in their concert for the ghost of Keith, they will also have to move on and find what could be eventually their successor. It's something that Corey from Slipknot spoke a lot about, having Slipknot being this group that represents something, regardless of its members, which is important to its continuation. People always spoke about "x member era of y band", why is it unacceptable now? It's irrational pain fans have that need processing. Don't forget Chester, but also move on. The message is still there!!
I listened to this song for the first time last night at a bar. I did not know it was Linkin Park. The bartender played it and I recorded it just to find out today that it was them. Glad to realize I still love Linkin Park ❤
I love how this song starts with Mike Shinoda and gives us a minute for us to get adjusted to the new song before introducing us to the new vocalist Emily Armstrong. It's the perfect first single for the rebirth of Linkin Park.
Have you heard any of her old band’s (Dead Sara) stuff? All of that is super good too. She also sounds incredible live. I went to a slash and Myles Kennedy concert and dead Sara opened. She’s kick ass
I agree, they timed everything perfectly for that show. Castle of Glass as an intro with Chester's voice modified, the new single as the opening song, Numb in the middle which matches the context of Emily trying to exist in LP now, and her duo with Mike at the end. I also loved to see the others members of LP smilling at Emily to show their support and their joy to be back!
My biggest regret is never attending a live concert while Chester was alive. I will not miss the opportunity this time. Count me in for this new era. The band is sounding AMAZING. Welcome, Emily!
@@frutosergio i was there many times and I would tell you unforgettable moments I still have the ticket when they come switzerland for the first time. Hallenstadion was earthquacking. I remember we did a flag with our messages for them and they put it on the piano, we cried from happiness, i have a drum stick from rob bourdon and guitar plettros with the logo LP, I remember When chester and Mike came to us while playing in the end, we have great pics with them we gave the hand to chester and mike 🥲🥹🥹🥹 I would never forget how cool that band was and never forget what they created with underground pass! I still have friends from all over the world cuz of them.. I remember it was always a fear with chester he always had up and downs and I still remember reading about HIS depresión. But I will never know the truth. He left a big big family.
She has the same sort of vocal fry. (I'm pretty sure that's what it's called) She puts tons of distortion on her words and screams. Yes, I'll agree she doesn't sound exactly like chester but how could a female voice sound like his? Female and male screamers have a total different vocal box makeup
For our sins we deserve eternity in hell, but God loves us so much he came as Jesus to pay the price of our sins through living a perfect life for us, his death and his resurrection so we can be forgiven and receive eternal life if we follow and obey him in faith FOR LIFE , Jesus loves u and desires to have a personal relationship with you of love, peace, redemption and obedience ✝️ May Jesus bless you, repent of your sins and turn to Christ before it's too late 🙏🏿❤️
They waited long enough, they showed enough respect to Chester's memory, and they honored Chester by not having anyone replace him even in the first part in this song. It’s not a replacement, it’s a new member and I’m ok with that. Her performence is amazing by the way, she fits there.
I am 30 years old dude grew up with Linkin Park. Chester's voice became a part of my life, a part of my good/bad memories. he is not replaceable and I think Emily knows that. she knew people will say "you are not chester" but she stepped up anyway. Emily has all my respect for the courage to walk on the hard road. Good luck to her and all Linkin Park🍀
35 yo. I started Learneing English as my third language by translating Linkin park and Evanescence songs early 2000s in high school. LP was a big part of my teens and 20s
@@ZZ-vl5nd 14 years old, growing up with linkin park throughout my entire life, and i do miss chester, but emily will be a big help with anything i go through during the next *insert random number of years here* years
There's nothing wrong with her. This song doesn't sound good to me, they need to write much better songs and people will accept her, as we cannot revive Mr. Bennington.
This is a perfect representation of technology & smartphones! "The emptiness machine" is the perfect name for phones! We've lost connection with each other.
as a die-hard Chester fan, I don't think this is an attempt to replace Chester I think it's an attempt to move on and keep moving forward and I absolutely love this song. It definitely embodies the spirit of the band and nobody is ever going to replace chester. I'm super excited to have her as the singer for Linkin park. Keep up the Great work.
I recognize a true fan of LP when i see it. Real ones are witchu fam, LP till end. Cheers to Emily, there's a giant shoe to fill in front of her, but real ones are here for her and the band
Wasn't sure about this direction... but I'm sold. The fact that they didn't try to find a Chester sound-alike was absolutely the right way to go. Well done! Linkin Park is back!
They didn’t try to find a sound alike 😂😂😂😂 seriously have you listened to the side by side comparison?!? I’d have respected her more to sing how she does for dead Sara not a karaoke wannabe Chester not for me never will be
@@ferggraham9849 Sorry but I haven't heard anything that gave me that vibe. Obviously there would have to be some similarities otherwise she wouldn't fit with Linkin Park's music style. Is there a song you'd recomnend to do the side-by-side comparison?
Hope they will keep the original vibe, no matter who's the singer, and anyone can close eyes and simply hear and see Chester singing this He was one of a kind! Emily, just leave the Scientist crap and be the music, learn from Chester's loyalty, cause you are the part of one of the GOAT of the rock music, just live it, and you all keep Chester's spirit forever!
Me. I love it, it is a great foundation for anew journey with LP. I remember when the first hit and how they were vilified for their not being one thing or the other in the music press. Y
Man i love this...love how Mike started the song off, it brought that sense of familiarity and it also felt like an introduction to Emily as she comes in on the second verse and kills it in her own way. Even in the video when Emily starts singing, Joe, Colin and Brad are looking like they hear a new voice but they're all here for it. It just fits. Glad to see the new era. I'll never let go of the Chester era but Linkin Park isn't one person, it's a vibe...and I like what I see so far
She has an INCREDIBLE voice! Chester is smiling from heaven. I miss him but I’m happy LP is together and making music again! Edit: To anyone for who this return brings up rough feelings: please take good care of yourself.
Did anyone notice the subtle callbacks to Numb, Crawling and Somewhere I belong? Numb : "I'm tired of being what you want me to be" Emptiness Machine : "Gave up who I am for who you wanted me to be" Crawling : "Crawling in my skin, these wounds they will not heal" Emptiness Machine : "Already pulling me in, Already under my skin" Somewhere I belong : "Somehwere I belong" Emptiness Machine : "I only wanted to be part of something“ And if the lyrics weren't enough, the story in the video at 00:45 and 1:41 are callbacks to Numb and Crawling! Finally, the generation that listened to LP was fighting expectations from parents. The same generation is now fighting expectations from society as adults. The video makes so much sense! Goosebumps! What a masterpiece! If you know, you know!
Where? I don't hear it at all. I just here the same generic singing of every female alt rock singer. It's bland, and honestly that's putting it nicely.
@@MrRoneoRegondola Listen again, the passion isn't there. She screams as rehearsed, Chester screamed from a guttural desperation and pain. Her cult, Scientology, doesn't believe in professional health care of any kind, nor do they believe in mental illness. Emily Armstrong and Mike Shinoda's vocal chemistry in ‘The Emptiness Machine’ is incredible. This song feels like the start of a new chapter for the band.❤❤
@@vincemartinez1666 She's literally the antithesis of Chester. She's a scientologist, a cult that doesn't believe in psychiatry, and she's a supporter of Danny Masterson, someone who was convicted of multiple r*pes. Chester was an SA victim and took his own life due to depression. Seems like a big middle finger.
my 1st thoughts were "oh no, a woman to replace Chester? No one will sound like him", and then when I first heard this song I was like "okay, this is kind of... awesome" and I think she really has a great voice. Also, I'm just happy LP is making music again! We will remember Chester, and we will enjoy this new music!
I'm 42, grew up with Linkin Park, and was super skeptical... The Emptiness Machine... Chester's gone and he'll always be a huge loss, but damn, Linkin Park is back in such an awesome way... this sounds so legit Linkin Park without any copycat vibes... Perfect vocalist choice, perfect comeback title...
On Rob's departure from the band: Shinoda: Rob had said to us at a point, I guess it was a few years ago now, that he wanted to put some distance between himself and the band. And we understood that - it was already apparent. He was starting to just show up less, be in less contact, and I know the fans noticed it too. The Hybrid Theory rerelease and Papercuts release, he didn't show up for anything. So for me, as a friend, that was sad, but at the same time, I want him to do whatever makes him happy, and obviously everybody wishes him the best.
@@redmictianI feel like youre trying to create an issue out of nothing. She will most probably perform the songs with Chester, but that doesn’t make her a replacement, she’s just the new lead.
I think what he means by that is that if they weren't going to get someone to attempt to fill his spot, why not just rename the band aka just start a new one.@@anonym_s5031
I haven’t felt this kind of thrill since “In the End.” It’s not a replacement; it’s a new band with the DNA of Linkin Park. I love it. Kudos to the band!
As long as Mike is still there, it will always sound like Linkin Park. Because he writes and produces most of their songs. In The End, Breaking the Habit, Burn it Down, One More Light, One Step Closer, Castle of Glass and way more. Even this song, he wrote it and sang the whole song himself until he changed it for Emily.
Yeah. I cried and smiled too. For happiness. It’s a new era for them now but at the same time it’s a celebration of their history. In a memory of Chester. I’m so happy they continue and make new music. I’m excited to see what the future brings. I’m so happy that they are happy. Good to see Mike being healed and him smiling. ❤️
From Zero ... really felt that. They lost him, honored him, made sure he's remembered forever and finally began anew. Favorite band for 23 years, will be till the day i'm gone. LINKIN PARK
@@WalterWhiteJP "Several years ago, I was asked to support someone I considered a friend at a court appearance, and went to one early hearing as an observer. Soon after, I realized I shouldn’t have. I always try to see the good in people, and I misjudged him. I have never spoken with him since. Unimaginable details emerged and he was later found guilty. To say it as clearly as possible: I do not condone abuse or violence against women, and I empathize with the victims of these crimes."
@@WalterWhiteJP Brother I understand. But think about it they've been gone for 7 years. Had they been money and fame hungry i'd give it 6 month a year tops for them to bring someone in. But instead they 've dedicating all the concerts, covers, album re-releases, and any event of the band, to him. I've been a fan of LP since "in the end" came out so i know exactly how you feel cause i used to believe the band was dead too. But this is a new beginning, nobody is trying to be like chester, it's just a new voice, a new style. This is how they honor him, making awesome music. That's why we loved them to begin with isn't it? I hope you understand, just give it a chance, see what they got, I know you wont get disppointed.
This is honestly as good as it gets for me. She absolutely nailed it in this song. They all did an incredible job. I'm a old fan here and I completely approve of her as the lead singer. I know there has been some hate and I just don't get it. Can't wait for more of her and Linkin Park.
I watched the live, honestly I love how she sings. But she needs to be more confident about her own skills. When she was singing their old songs, I found that she was trying to imitate previous way of singing a bit too much, which didn't worked that well, but she had flashes when she was just singing with her own voice and it was BEAUTIFUL! She's not a replacement for Chester, she has her own insane talent, and she should use that. She has skills to be side by side with Chester, not a replacement. I'm all in for future of Linkin Park overall. I gave up on them few years ago when they leaned more into pop instead of metal, but this piece here proves they still have it in them. And that girl has the potential to breathe a brand new life into the band I fell in love in since I was 12. Ps.: people really don't appreciate how insanely difficult it is to growl properly. My friend, who is death metal musician, tried to teach me, and I hurt my throat for few months. The way she does it is absolute bliss!
No one on this planet can replace Chester. No one. That being said, Emily isn't replacing him. She's the start of a new chapter for LP and I'm so glad for it. Thank you guys for giving it another go. You all are forever loved and were sorely missed ❤
ye sure she isnt replacing him ... but ... will they play only new songs live ? dont think so ... cant really imagine this chick do given up or any other "chester" songs live... im sorry ... she sounds definitely cool in this song. this. song.
I seriously feel like I've been reunited with an old friend. We've both grown, but will always have traces of who we were. Life has led us here, and I'm happy to have this again.
Interested to see what they can do with a new vocalist with different range, this one the verses felt different but the chorus kinda felt like she was trying to sound like Chester. Interested to see what they can get out of her on the album, since this one kinda felt like playing it safe and being as much like old LP as possible
I was nervous and I was unsure. Now I'm sold. She's phenomenal and she is going to remake this band and she will restore it to its former glory 💯🔥🙌🏻❤️🫂🎉🥹 Welcome to the Fam, Emily. You are immortalized through your music and you live on in our hearts and and in our minds. To me, you will always be irreplaceable. But my man... isn't she something special? 😉🙏🏻🫂 Indeed. Love!
I dont think the idea was ever to replace Chester, that is impossible and a pointless thing to try to do as Chester will always be Chester. That does not mean that LP as a band cant move forward into a new chapter. I like what I hear and see so im excited to see Linkin Park back with new music.
One of the many reasons this works is because I could totally picture Chester singing Emily's part. This just feels like Linkin Park and I love it. The future looks bright.
The second Emily hit the chorus I cried. It's like they never left, and I've never been happier. My favorite band ever is back, and sounding incredible.
It’s got me feeling some kind of way. I came into this so ready to dismiss her and the band. I’m not fond of female singers in general and anyone trying to fill Chester’s place has a lot stacked against them. But Gods be damned if she doesn’t nail it. I truly love this song and the other released and she is perfect.
I see both sides. Emotionally, how could you possibly replace him? Practically, what were the rest of the guys supposed to do going forward. My stance? Queen carried on after Freddy passed on. And I think switching to a female vocalist was the best decision LP could have made, because any male artist would have been compared
Ive been a fan of Linkin Park from the get go but this just has no feeling in it and it doesn't belong good vocals don't get me wrong but no woman should be a vocal on Linkin Park if they cannot match the emotion and feelings poured into the music

It took 7 years for the band to move on from Chester's legacy. This is a fresh start for Linkin Park. To Emily, thank you & welcome to Linkin Park. To Chester, you are gone, but not forgotten. Your legacy remains in our heart. Greetings from Malaysia.
They're not back, so you're right not to believe. This is not LP. It's a desperate attempt to keep a dead band going. Not because the other band members were useless but it's not the band without Chester.
I feel like we’re definitely on Linkin park 4.0 or 5.0 at this point especially if you consider that they were called Xero, and Hybrid Theory before Chester came on board, and they had to change their name to Linkin Park.
"In the role of Chester Bennington is each of you" - Mike They aren't trying to replace Chester. They're honoring his legacy while evolving with their sound. Emily is no doubt a powerhouse but Mike's vocals are my favorite part. The layering and smooth transition when sings "I let you cut me open" is perfection. Dude really found his voice over the years.
I don't know what happenend, but I literally cried because of this. Yes, she is not Chester and no one can replace the legacy he left behind. I just realized that Linkin Park has the best fanbase in the world. I was afraid to enter the comments section because I didn't know what I might read. Now I'm here and I see only beautiful words for Emily, Colin and the entire LP. To any Linkin Park fan reading this who understands that Emily isn't here to step into Chester's shoes, you're awesome and I hope we run into each other somewhere at their show. I'm 39 years old, I grew up with LP and now I just can't watch it without crying uncontrollably...crying because I'm both happy that this isn't the end of LP and sad that I'll never get to see Chester live. However, life goes on, there is no point in being sad that something has ended. We should be happy that it happened... and I am. I am happy for you and with all of you. You are great! Much love ❤
Apparently there a lot of backlash for the band’s decision to bring in a new vocalist. But this isn’t the old Linkin Park we grew up with. This is a reignited Linkin Park. It brings us to a new age of the band while they stay true to certain roots that made them what they are.
@@pcostyle11 and that is the sad truth about it that I barely ever see anyone bold enough to say... I mean seriously, the people giving the backlash just expect the band to end permanently just because Chester did that...? They should be allowed to... we all will love Chester forever, and Linkin Park as a whole. Nothing would change that.

It's on the contrary, you musically inept pop sheep do not deserve to be a part of the LP community.
🥹 This was cathartic. I thought the band had died when Chester passed. This feels like a beautiful new beginning. She reminds me of Chester and I am here for it.
Especially since they replaced the guy who commited suicide after his battle with mental health with a scientology member -- who is openly against therapy and makes fun of mental health xd
Yeah I'm with you on that. I'd gone through the motions that they might just be gone. Mike saying to the crowd that you're all Chester etc tonight was perfect. After the half way point she settled into it and was brilliant. Seeing Mike on stage enjoying himself rather than the sad guy we've seen over the last 7 years was a delight. As for any views she might have, or any of the band..... who cares. When you cross into music or creative sphere viewpoints are warped on surroundings. We don't have to agree. It doesn't have to matter. Especially when it's a band i've listened too since I was 13 years old and now I'm 36. I'm just happy I might get to see them live when that thought was a pipe dream.

No we dont
@@foopa777 Mike Shinoda says otherwise.
This project needs another name... Not LP

Thats the best feeling!
Im listening to this song for the first time right now. Emily has some talent ngl. Looking forward to the new album
That's amazing!

She has the same sort of vocal fry. (I'm pretty sure that's what it's called) She puts tons of distortion on her words and screams. Yes, I'll agree she doesn't sound exactly like chester but how could a female voice sound like his? Female and male screamers have a total different vocal box makeup

So true as in all endings there are new beginnings. I look forward to our new journey with LP.
Did anyone notice the subtle callbacks to Numb, Crawling and Somewhere I belong?
Numb : "I'm tired of being what you want me to be"
Emptiness Machine : "Gave up who I am for who you wanted me to be"
Crawling : "Crawling in my skin, these wounds they will not heal"
Emptiness Machine : "Already pulling me in, Already under my skin"
Somewhere I belong : "Somehwere I belong"
Emptiness Machine : "I only wanted to be part of something“
And if the lyrics weren't enough, the story in the video at 00:45 and 1:41 are callbacks to Numb and Crawling!
Finally, the generation that listened to LP was fighting expectations from parents. The same generation is now fighting expectations from society as adults. The video makes so much sense! Goosebumps! What a masterpiece! If you know, you know!

On Rob's departure from the band:
Shinoda: Rob had said to us at a point, I guess it was a few years ago now, that he wanted to put some distance between himself and the band.

I see both sides. Emotionally, how could you possibly replace him? Practically, what were the rest of the guys supposed to do going forward. My stance? Queen carried on after Freddy passed on. Very true, I love how LP finally embrace their roots after all these years with new twist of energy!!!

According to Chester’s son they started making music back in 2019 and just waited to release it now. Likely why Rob isn’t interested in the band

Yes is true
True!
This is so good but you must hear “City” by SLT 🤘 and wait until the drums kick in 🤘🏙️🎸
They're not back, so you're right not to believe.

"In the role of Chester Bennington is each of you" - Mike
They aren't trying to replace Chester.
They're honoring his legacy while evolving with their sound. Emily brings something fresh and unique, but Chester's presence will always be irreplaceable.
This is about moving forward, not forgetting the past.

But this song brought up so many good, distant memories and nostalgia. It has the same vibe and energy as the old songs and it just makes me so, so happy to have LP back. Nothing but love for Emily and Colin. Let's start a new era.

Gotta love supporting someone who supported a rapist and tried intimidating the victim in the courthouse.

The drop at 0:57 literally dropped me 10 years back when I first heard Faint. Wow!! This brings back memories. And we're here to become a part of something new. Something different. Folks, this is Linkin Park reborn. ❤
Edit: I've heard this like 50 times at this point. Chester might have been the soul of LP but Mike is still the heart. And Emily, you have my Respect girl ❤. I can hear the remnants of Chester's screams in her roar. "I let you cut me open" gives me goosebumps everytime I hear this song. Jesus. Nothing but respect for you guys.

100%.
Yeah and lets be honest its not their fault chester *** himself ! He chose to leave the band
@@pcostyle11 and that is the sad truth about it that I barely ever see anyone bold enough to say... I mean seriously, the people giving the backlash just expect the band to end permanently just because Chester did that...? There's other people in the band who clearly wanted to stay within the band and make new music, with some new blood. They should be allowed to... we all will love Chester forever, and Linkin Park as a whole. Nothing would change that.
@@fresia7878 me and my girlfriend 110% agree with everything you said ! English is my second language so i could not have said it better ! Obviously it sounds different but first time i heard it on 105.1 i was like damn that sounds like Linkin park but with a girl ! Did not knew it back then lol
Chester will always be Linkin Park. So glad Linkin Park is back! Welcome Emily!
Nothing will be like Chester.... but this singer brought back that pure energy of Linkin Park
Haters like you don't deserve to be the LP community.
She didn't bring anything back, she can not sing one damn LP song even close. Mike had to taylor a sound around her voice and the only thing that works is 99 Linkin Park.
@@ItsVanillaDiceBaeBae She's not supposed to cover LP songs exactly like Chester. She has her own style. If they wanted to replace Chester, though could've chosen other male singers. It's just a new chapter and she did pretty well in their first song. It's a banger and I've been listening to it since yesterday.
@@SamaBRJ You can't handle the truth? You're not really a fan and you don't honor Chester nor LP. Way to go pissing on his grave. 🥹 This was cathartic. I thought the band had died when Chester passed. This feels like a beautiful new beginning. She reminds me of Chester and I am here for it.
Chester was never a r*pe apologist or cultist. He would be so disappointed in this.
Especially since they replaced the guy who commited suicide after his battle with mental health with a scientology member -- who is openly against therapy and makes fun of mental health xd
Like a rebirth or a transcendence
Emily’s voice is awesome. Fits like a glove. Pretty sure Chester approves!
Instant classic goose bump banger
