I can’t believe she is fighting with the past eras in the video, it’s so cathartic and deep. Villain is the Joanne with the hat. Brunette haired her representing ARTPOP. Twins are The Fame and The Fame Monster. Slicked back hair for Chromatica and the veil for Born This Way. Lastly, the tortured Gaga is her current self, chased by the past versions of her. Correct me if I’m wrong but this is what I got. She literally said I’m my biggest enemy and showed how it’s scary and claustrophobic it’s to face her demons. This song has a vital meaning to it - more so than themes of darkness. It’s about self control, specifically controlling yourself from your own darkness. And, possibly, not controlling your darkness but acknowledging it and accepting it. With the images of her fighting, hurting, embracing and running from herself??? This is self awareness and love baby. We’re in a new age of Gaga and I’m glad we got another in this lifetime.

OK HEAR ME OUT: When I first watched the video, I thought there should be more connection between the scenes, but on the second watch I already get how creatively it was written - imagining that the walls are actually coming closer to each other, walking on and torturing herself... she is blind in almost each scene, except the one in which SHE is driving - controlling the car. But the other her is blind even in that scene - escaping from the only help that can cure her DISEASE, and that's HERSELF. To me, Lady Gaga’s video feels like a portrayal of her struggle with the persona and alter ego she’s crafted; it’s like a metaphor for facing her own darkness, almost as if she’s brought it outside of herself. OK HEAR ME OUT: When I first watched the video, I thought there should be more connection between the scenes, but on the second watch I already get how creatively it was written - imagining that the walls are actually coming closer to each other, walking on and torturing herself... she is blind in almost each scene, except the one in which SHE is driving - controlling the car. But the other her is blind even in that scene - escaping from the only help that can cure her DISEASE, and that's HERSELF. The point is that only we can help each other if we are ready to actually face the problem. WE are the change.
