Why doesn't DBZ get the same treatment as Star Wars with expanded lore for some of the lesser known races.

I'd love to see how the rest of the galaxy regards Earth. I feel like it'd regarded as some kind of galactic Bermuda Triangle.
Prior to the start of the series, it's just some backwater planet in the space boonies not even worth talking about. But then things start happening. A Saiyan goes there and is never heard from again. Then two Saiyan elites go there, and only one returns, barely alive. Then a ship flies from Earth to the planet Freeza has suddenly taken interest in, and BOOM, planet destroyed, and Freeza is barely alive. Then Freeza and his father, the two strongest beings in the galaxy go there, and are never heard from again. And from here on, whenever someone tries to get a power reading on the planet, they either detect nothing...or explode.
Tell me that wouldn't freak people out.
lol, good point, but Super and Resurrection F, actually touched a little on this. The remnants of freiza army said earth was too dangerous to try to invade or other wise travel to openly, and that's why they used stealth to get the dragon balls because they knew no one would stand a chance against the Saiyans.

It is canon that Frieza's race are called Frost Demons. They supposedly have gender and traditional reproduction as Frieza has mentioned his Mother previously, but IDK if that's canon. Frieza, his Father, and likely Cooler as well are also all 'mutants' among their kind, explaining their unnaturally high battle power. Their Golden Form is just a case of them being able to consciously alter the appearance of their forms at will, as Xenoverse explains that they wear a sort of 'Bio-armor' created from their own tissue. And on the juice front, they drink wine and milk. You're welcome.

Despite the movies not being canon, Bojack's crew has always been a point of interest to me. What lead to them being sealed in the planet of the North Kai? We know they're from the "Race of Hera," and that they're a powerful warrior race. How did the race get brought down to only five members (that then got killed by the main characters)? What was the universe like before they were sealed away? Finally, and most importantly, why do they have such sweet vests?

Pranav Sriram Pretty sure that was thanks to Buu and Frieza's planet sharking activities, plus it takes millions of year for even life to develop and even more for intelligent life forms. Beerus and champa are offworlders, according to a magazine, which means they don't belong to either universe 6 or 7. Irrelevant. But humanoid body types are just convenient. Frieza's race is frieza's race. the chances of the soldiers being survivors from a wiped out civilization? 95%. It's either death or live in glory. Either a retcon or change of rules in the world of kai due to 4 of them being murdered in universe 7. Devil realm exists. Heroes expanded on it.

Considering the source in-series of that information is Kaioshin, and the poor guy has missed major things and been wrong or flat-out underinformed about things quite a lot in the past, my headcanon is that he's just flat-out *wrong* about U7's population count and probably missed a whole hell of a lot due to his inexperience and lack of training before winding up the sole surviving Supreme Kai in U7. Space is big, and that's a hell of a lot to try and keep tabs on at the best of times! :P
I think it may have been a translation error. In my opinion, it doesn't represent the planets with life on them, but rather, planets where life has developed to the point of having power levels great enough to take notice of(Earth Likley wouldn't even count if not for the Saiyans). Anyways, just my interpretation of it,

could it be that the reason King Cold is Frieza's only parent is that their race used science to replace sexual reproduction? That could explain why they're so driven towards strength and yet never physically train, because it would mean they got so strong through genetic engineering and didn't think they could gain any comparable power naturally.

Prism: their multicolor skin tones. Mirror: Their accents being a mirror of Earth’s ethnic diversities and the “ites” to just give a a sci-fi ish kind of feel.

You really don't need to explain the accents, because if aliens and aliens learned to speak x or y language, we'd probably end up really surprised by what some of their accents would sound like because their native languages might share weird phonetic similarities to different human languages.

I wanna know more about Tapion's race. It's the only intergalactic race that utilizes magic rather than science. Yes, human do it, but we never see it used as practically.

Out of the "relevant" species, I think the one that would be the most interesting would be Beerus and Champa's species.
Why are they both Gods of Destruction of different universes despite being twin brothers?
Were universes 6 and 7 once the same universe or were they born on a neutral planet on the border of the two universes? How does that even work?
I mean, none of the other GoDs are even of the same species as each other. Never mind actually being related. So what makes them special?

I think Dyspo is supposed to be a rabbit and has literally nothing to do with them except that they share the same skincolour. I could totally believe that his design wasnt probably even supposed to resemble anything about Beerus and Champa and it only ended up the way we know because Tori screwed up somewhere again ^^

My current headcanon on the Beerus/Champa problem is that they're probably from a multiphasic planet (with a 1:1 timeframe, presumably) and were born as the planet phased between universes (like how twins can have different birthdays if they're born at midnight).
The thing is that we (or at least I don't, please correct me if otherwise) don't actually know how new GoDs are chosen.
We can assume that it's a direct master-student path as with Belmod and Toppo.
And Sidra and Roh of Universe 9 seemed to think that they could recruit Frieza (of Universe 7, duh) for the Tournament of Power.
So, maybe GoD selection works the same way and you don't technically need to be of a universe to be the Destruction God for that universe.
I feel like some really good writers from the DBZ fandom should get together and try and make an unofficial Expanded Universe. That'd be neat.

I recall the clusterfuck that was the Star Wars Novels. A.K.A: Back when Lucasfilm decided that legally sanctioned fanfics should be their own recognized canon, before Disney thankfully abolished it.

After watching this video, here's some of my head-canons pertaining to alien races in the Dragon Ball Universe:
- All the races that exist in Universe 7 exist in the other universes, and the same goes for the other universe's races existing or have existed in Universe 7, with some of them having evolved differently like how Saiyans in Universe 6 don't have tails like Saiyans in Universe 7 do.
- Frieza's race evolved on a very harsh world, likely an ice planet, and they are so strong and have the ability to transform their body because their race evolved to withstand the harsh environment of their homeworld. "Arcosians" are just one of the many names the race has.
- Yardrat has two sentient races, being the ones that were shown in the anime and the ones that were shown in Dragon Ball Online.
- Jiren is a Grey Alien, like the literal stereotypical kind you see in cartoons, the ones in U7 behave more like the ones you're familiar with, while the ones in U11 are closer to how things were in Jiren's flashback.
- Jaco's species looks and behaves similar to the Ultra species from Ultraman, and has similar powers, Jaco is just a far weaker member of the species.
- There are only 28 fully-developed civilizations in U7 that are self-sufficient and space-faring, but there are thousands of alien races in U7, a significant portion of them which were conquered by Frieza's empire.
- The homeworld of Jeice and Salza, called "Brench", is nearly identical to Australia, and has only three continents which bear resemblance to Australia, New Zealand and Papua (both the Indonesian half and Papua New Guinea) when seen from space, but are all FAR larger than their earthly counterparts.
I wanna know more about the three-eyed people, tenshinhan's ancestors. A storyline where he reconnects with his ancestry would be super cool. Maybe it could provide a needed powerup. I vaguely remember Beerus killing them all, the reason he did could be that they grew dangerously close to the godly powers through their third eye techniques. The possibilities are endless here! I was so sad my boy Tenshinhan didn't have much going for him in Super so something in this vein would be a really cool character arc.
I would like to know where recoome is from, he looks like stereotypical american football quarter back but also has the passion for dance like rest of the ginyu force, like is recoome's culture mix of american "yeaah hot dogs,applepie" and russian ballerina tippy dance

Actually Recoome is a rare look for his race, they don't normally have human like skin color and hair and usually are multie-skin colored race with mostly odder shades of blue and pinks. The body type is usually the same though.

Hey, people like the manga about Reborn as Yamcha, and there was barely any Goku in it. That must be proof that there might be an audience for that kind of thing.

The Expanded Universe of Star Wars is vastly superior to Disney's Star Wars. The Thrawn and Bane Trilogies for example makes the sequels look like a bad joke in comparison.
I think the sequels are already a bad joke on their own.

This is my main reason for liking the xenoverse games and their ilk, because they give me more of the Dragonball world.
My headcanon is that Freiza eventually got so much political power, influence, money, etc that was able to legally rename his race after himself to "Freiza's Race".
Now I'm imagining humanity getting re-named the Donald Race.
With how popular that duck is and with Disney buying everything up I could see that happening actually.
I'm ok with this. Fits in well with Freiza Planet *insert number*, kinda like how Alexander the Great named like dozen cities Alexandria.
Now if we can just figure out how to consolidate "There are only 28 planets with life" with the fact there are at least 79 planets named "Frieza Planet #X".

Toriyama has somewhat of an expanded universe, he's got another Galactic Patrolman with Jiya, a short spin off manga.
Of the other species in DB, I'd like to know more about the Yardrats and Metamorans (which I'm surprised wasn't mentioned by Masako). Those two species taught Goku two critical techniques that were needed for their respective arcs (IT for Android/Cell Saga, Fusion Dance for Buu Saga), yet they are just background elements for the longest time
The reason we haven't gotten an Expanded Universe for Dragon Ball is because Toei and Toriyama keep saying that "Dragon Ball is the story of Goku", so they keep it all around Goku.
i really want to see more of Cui/Dodoria/Zarbon and Ginyu Force races, tbh i was dissapointed that in whole ToP there wasnt a single person from their race. (i really thought that Caway from U4 was from Zarbon race)

Frieza's race is the most intriguing and has a lot of potential for exploration. I would love for Toriyama to shed some light on the history of the Saiyans and the Frost Demons in the upcoming Broly movie. I would like to think the Saiyans had a rivalry with them or had oppressed them at some point until the mutation of their race that gave us Lord Chilled, King Cold and Frieza.
In Dragonball Xenoverse, when playing as a "Frieza Race" and fighting against Cell, he comments saying "I have more than enough Frost Demons in me."
Actually Ginyu would be really interesting because the guy probably stole the bodies of a whole bunch of progressively stronger fighters until he found the purple horned one. Like what the hell was he originally? It'd be kind of scary if he was once some kind of tiny bug or parasite that slowly gained sentience as it took over the bodies of bigger creatures and perfected its body snatching skills. Also an explanation about his weird loyalty to Frieza instead of trying to steal Frieza's body as well as, uh, his odd obsession with poses and dances, would be cool. It'd be worth it just to see his history, though I'd laugh like a madman if its revealed that he started life as some species of Space Frog.

I know this is just one of your videos and has nothing to do with it, But I came here to simply say that you did a FANTASTIC, FLAWLESS job with the Gohan voice in the latest DBZA episode. I actually wondered how you would voice SSJ2 Gohan because I couldn't picture his usual high-pitched voice in such a serious/badass moment. But I was in shock when I heard him talk, from the badass lines to the perfect deeper-pitched voice that you used. Thank you Masako, Thank you.

You know what's weird as far as expanded universe materials go? The Crusher Corps from Tree of Might actually all have unusually detailed backstories, references to planets we never see and frankly have waaaaaaaaaay more information about them out there than, like, any individual member of the Freiza Force. I don't know who's responsible for that and I'm certainly not complaining, it's just an oddity.
Wasn't Olibu stated by King Kai to be Human from 3,000 years ago whose story partially resembles that of Hercules? Also, I'd like to hear more about the Immeckajins (Ledgic's race from GT), as well as Tapion's and General Rildo's. Tien Shinhan should also get some light, since he's one of the most popular characters and his 3rd Eye deserves recognition.
I feel like zarbon race is the most interesting race to me. It’s one of those aliens race that second form is transformation between Beauty turn into a beast. Imagine how to female race of Zarbon must look like. I sure wouldn’t want to piss her off.

A new ova, A history of Freeza where we see him conquer all these worlds and find out what the races were like before King Cold and the Freeza empire took them over. Ginyu fighting Freeza in a previous body swap form. Zarbon's people going monster form and impressing him enough to keep Zarbon as a lieutenant.
I did remember learning from one of the older games that Jeice of the Ginyu Force came from the same race or star system as Salza from Cooler's Armored Squadron, so nice to see some similarities like that between such alien warrior groups, but as pointed out, most non-saiyan races are just there to look cool for a bit and not really for you to think about much or delve into, so yeaah.

My favorite race, since their introduction in DB online has been the Majins. Not technically aliens I suppose, but a new race of earthlings.
Anyway, they're awesome and I love that they've been consistently playable in recent DB games like the xenoverses and fusions (offworlder characters can be majins)

Hey masako, I know this is an odd topic but I have an idea for a discussion topic. What if Goku and Vegeta used the Super Dragon balls to revive planet Vegeta and what would some of the possible outcomes of their action be. I know it's an odd topic but it's been something that's interested me for a while now and it'd be cool to see what you think would happen. Adding on to this what would be the reactions of Goku and Vegeta plus their family to meeting their relatives. Keep up the great work and good job with the video.

Thanks for the video Masako! I love world building and often thought it was sad there wasn't a little more information about the aliens we've seen. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of screen time to go off on this tangent and we don't have a lot of core characters that would have interest in other aliens beyond their strength and fighting prowess except for Bulma and maybe Gohan and a version of Trunks (GT was more likely to follow in her footsteps). Also, given Toriyama's history with characters, we probably won't get a universe expansion that goes further than "hey, more aliens and they're strong and possibly/probably evil! Travel through space (or they could come to earth, boring) and meet them then defeat them!" Sadness.
I really hope that we see more about "the Frieza"!

and now with the Moro arc we got a lot more info on the yardratians, and now that it ended we've gotten a new race that got a name pretty much immediately after they got revealed, those being the cerialeans, with Granolah.
You can call it a dubflub all you want but i’m not calling it “the Frieza race” just because Toriyama is a lazy author lol he’s a great mangaka don’t get me wrong but Dragonball is the farthest thing from a cohesive story lol especially considering how bad he is at remembering things he’s already stated or done.

A race that physically isn't too alien but has driven me crazy since childhood....The hell is Racoom?! I keep seeing his race being named after him but he looks so human/saiyan. Are they related to the saiyans? Is Racoom actually a saiyan? Are they a distant cousin to earthlings and we'll learn humans didn't spawn on earth originally? So many questions! lol
What bugs me the most is the awful lot of humans that are suposelly aliens like: Recoome, that frieza soldier that Frieza kill when he fight Trunks and the kids in the filler when Bulma travelled to Namek
I really want to know more about the Metamorans, who are/were they, how did they discover or develop the fusion dance and just how powerful were they when they did fuse?
Olibu was an Earthling, if I remember correctly. And Salza from the first Cooler movie was of the same race as Jeice.

This video is so perfect. If Toriyama is such a huge star wars fan, why didn't he make his work follow the same expansive elements as Star Wars. It's cool to see goku and vegeta fight but they don't always have to be the main focus all the time.
We need more to now about frieza's race. Plus we can use some new races too.
A few months late, but I'm surprised you didn't talk about the Buu Race or the "Majins" as they are known in Xenoverse 2.
I'd like a showcase of most of the more interesting aliens shown in the dragon ball stories. Maybe we can make up our own little backstories for them as well. Like Pikkon or Gure Tarble' s wife along with the numerous Freiza soldiers
Burter’s race was always the coolest designed to me when i was young, i liked their beefy snake like appearance
Since super thats probably expanded quite a bit to include jiren’s and ganos’ race (seriously, rouge class goblins that transform into electric power chickens, i gotta know more)
But ive also been interested in seeing a race like the babarian’s and how they might evolve in the future/have evolved in other universes. I liked theyre dino caveman designs (felt very classically dragon ball) and would love to see who turned out to be right about them, gowasu or zamasu

No, the reason Piccolo is still young is because his race, the Namekians ages extreamly slowly and their aging speeds up by A-sexual reproduction (meaning they loose life force by laying eggs)
I don't think olibu is an alien. he says he's from earth, and he looks like a pure human. granted he's the strongest pure blooded human pre super, being almost as strong as pikkon and by extension almost as strong as an ss3 goku and 1st form majin buu and technically kid buu.
I think since it has been mentioned that Supreme Kai has been slacking, we won't be seeing an expanded universe anytime soon.
I wish that we leaned more about the Makyans (garlic jr and I think Pilaf) Because I think that they’re a very interesting concept for a race.

Can we take a moment to remember the Kannasans? You know, the race Bardock's squad wiped out? The race that all have psychic powers? I feel like that could of had a bigger angle there.

I always wonder why the Namekians never just wished up some more people. But considering they make dragonballs they should be somewhere in the celestial hierarchy.

I’ve always suspected Captain Ginyu (or at least his current body!) is from the same race as Frieza - similar skin colour and outward pointing horns. The difference being rather than the full headpiece shell thing that King Cold and 1st/2nd form Frieza have, Ginyu doesn’t, leaving the veins on his head exposed. What do you think Masako?

God damn do I want to know more about Zarbon's race. He is a member of one of the few races that can transform in the Dragon Ball Universe! I really liked the idea of a sort of Beauty and The Beast transformation. Is his whole race beautiful or are some of them born in Beast form (meaning that they have an even more powerful Beauty form?). So many questions.
You know, given the humanoid nature of most aliens and the fact that humans and saiyans can produce fertile offspring, I'm thinking there was some sort of primordial humanoid race that went around seeding planets with life a la the Old Ones from 40K

so i think there should be a video on android eight and his wasted potential in regards to how gero may have thought him dead at goku's hands and with his son dead from a bullet that likely came from launch he swore revenge against goku and his allies. The reason gero would think android 8 dead is that ninja murasaki set off his bomb after it was removed and gero probably detected said detonation and may have mistaken the presumably completely unrelated major matalitron's mangled body for android eight since it was likely too damaged to be conclusively identified and was also presumably buried in the rubble of the destroyed muscle tower and the people of jingle village would likely actively hide android 8 from gero to protect him from the old man wearing the red ribbon army logo on his clothes since android 8 feared being executed as a traitor or being reprogramed to be violent. android 8 has only left jingle village once to save suno from king piccolo and even then only helped with damage control even though he is likely strong enough for him and tien to tag team drum while goku fought king piccolo. goku may have kept android 8's existence a secret during the android saga to prevent future trunks from trying to kill him as a potential threat or dr gero capturing and reprograming him. goku was likely limited in his ability to contact the living world during the 7 years he was dead and thus could not tell 17, 18, or krillen about their long lost family member. After majin buu killed the whole planet goku assumed that android 8 stayed dead like 16 since despite his best efforts android 8 could not contribute to the spirit bomb because only biological life can do so and as a result goku did not know he was revived. goku should however realize that since arale is alive in super she had to be revived by the namekian dragon balls and since she is an android that means logically android 8 should have also be alive but either goku has not come to this realization or was too busy training for the tournament of power to act upon this revelation in any meaningful way on screen. If he does however act on this revelation it will likely be after the upcoming broly movie and could lead into an arc with the currently video game only character of android 21 as well as a rebuilt android 16 witch may make this hypothetical arc better since it would be cool to see android 8 process the fact that he has a family he did not know about and for him to be upset with goku for not telling him what was going on during the 3 year time skip before the android saga began in ernest. No mater how it happens i think dragon ball should acknowledge android 8 and have him be relevant in future stories since toriama may have planed him for the android saga but his editor rejecting 19 and 20 as the main villains may have made toriama forego reintroducing his character even though he should have been at least mentioned in that part of the story.
