- The Power Pole or Nyoibo has been around since Dragon Ball began. However it's fallen out of favour lately in the show with only odd mentions in the Dragon Ball Super movie promotions. Today, Haverok and I discuss why it's so important, how it can utilised in the future and whether it will even show up again or not?!

I always thought it would be cool for Goten to use the Power Pole, while Trunks uses his Sword. I’d be ok with Pan using it too...Maroon should get the Nimbus ESPECIALLY if she never gets into fighting

You can turn the ki into the blade. Shrinking and growing the pole to make multiple weapons. Sword? No problem, shrink pole to make a hilt and form a ki blade! Spear? Grow the pole and form a ki spear at the end! Well you get the picture. You could incorporate many different techniques and fighting styles in combo like this. He can say he picked it up off Trunks during the whole Fused Zamasu arc, incorporating it into his move sets.
You could also chop the power pole itself up into a bunch of pieces, have them grow to the size of mountains and have it rain like meteors, or plant them into the ground and have an entire forest of poles at your command, or use the pole as a gaint fan to block attacks. All it takes is a little creativity which Goku sucks at.

I thought so too. But they must have removed it at some point because the lookout is flying around now.
I've heard the same thing too, but when Goku goes to the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai, he has it with him. My guess is that Toriyama forgot and just later changed it so that the pole stayed connected between Korrin's tower and Kami's lookout.

If Goku kept the Power Pole throughout all his battles it is likely that he'd train Gohan in the Hyperbolic Timber with it. So maybe Gohan would have hold onto his Sword he got from Piccolo as a child and become a sword master like Trunks.

Goku - Pole fighter.
Trunks - Sword fighter.
Piccolo - Special ability fighter (extending his arms and such)
Would of made DB more interesting I think seeing a bunch of different combat styles.

I love this idea! Maybe roll Yamoshi and the Son Wukong legend into one too, and have Yamoshi be the divine predecessor of the Saiyan race or something
I think an interesting idea would be to use the Twin Dragon Shot in conjunction with the attack. Because not only does your opponent have to deal with two ki blasts that are going to attack once Goku wills it, but they also have to deal with the Power Pole/Nyobo/Magic Stick/ Whatever you want to call it. It would be an interesting tactic to incorporate it with other attacks. How about firing it at the opponent with a ki blast?
What I want to see from the _Power Pole_ is for it to get passed down through generations again, maybe Goku could give it's a Pan when she's she becomes a fighter

I think it would have been pretty cool if the Pole stayed around for the remainder of Z but got destroyed by Beerus during the Battle of Gods Movie/Arc.
Imagine that, just having the power pole live up to its reputation as an unbreakable tool that is used once, twice or even thrice to fend of Solar System-busting attacks and just being this really iconic main-stay until Beerus comes around and breaks it during him and Goku’s sparring match on King Kai’s planet. You just gave me a bit of a hilarious scenario about Goku vs Bergamo with the Power Pole. What if the Trio De Dangers had some canine instincts when they saw the Power Pole and wanting Goku to throw it.
With the power pole being ~magic~ Toriyama can explain away however he wants why Goku started using the power pole again in fights! Or even as a training tool for Goten/ Pan. Could be one of Son family heirlooms! And unlike other forgotten DBZ things like Launch, people actually care about the Power Pole and would be excited about its return!!

I imagine the Power Pole is sitting in the back of Goku's closet, or somewhere else in his house. Along with that sword Gohan was given by Piccolo while being trained by him. Since they weren't really needed that much, any more. The only items that seem to stay with the Z-Fighters are their weighted clothing and the Space Armour of Vegeta's.
The "useless" iron pillar is also said to be the pillar that lifts the sea up in certain depictions of the story.

I always thought that in OG Dragon Ball that maybe the Power Pole wasn’t heavy because it didn’t have those weights on either end like the original Jouney to the West weapon. Maybe with the additional weights it could then alter all its dimensions, able to become a pillar the size of a skyscraper.
You would need a chapter, or a scene, where the pole gets upgraded past its limitations from the old dragon ball times. The current pole, in its current state, would be deemed too weak to engage hard opponents.
Vegeta: Hey, Goku...I bet you can't power pole into the earth.
Goku: You're on! POWER POLE, EXTEND!!
The Power Pole hits the ground and begins to bend and arc at an dangerous angle. Goku attempts to hold it with Super Saiyan Three in his attempt to pierce the earth until he loses his grip and TWANG, the Power Pole shoots up like a rocket.

I love the idea of a Ki pole! If it can be made with Ki like the cloths beam can make cloths then Goku could use it whenever.
I've been kind of toying with the idea of expanding the Power Pole's usefulness as of late, and wondering what would happen if it were more like Sun Wukong's staff where it totally obeyed the will of the master. I mean it's literally called the "Staff That Obeys One's Will", so who's to say it couldn't theoretically shrink, or harden, or expand outwards? Need to hit someone who's stronger than you? Make it harder. Need to give your punch extra oomph? Make it smaller and use it like Brass Knuckles. Need to stop someone from punching you? Make it thicker to work like a shield. I mean the Bo already exhibits a couple different properties, being incredibly rigid in certain scenes but more flexible in others, so who knows what else it can do? Couple it with someone like Goten or Pan who have more childish imaginations, and you have an effective way to make the pole relevant again.
Maybe you could do a what if on, What If Cell Was Reincarnated instead of Buu

Now I can't get this image out of my head of Goku standing really far away from his enemy and extending the power pole to hit them in the stomach. First of all ow, that thing extends pretty fast so a hit like that could potentially incapacitate a lot of fighters even if only breifly. Second of all seing a red dot pop up over the horizon before it's suddenly planted into your stomach would be a sight for sure.
It'd be cool if Goku learned how to do more with the Power Pole than just make it longer or shorter. I think in the original Journey to the West, Sun Wukong can also transform his staff to be as tiny as a toothpick or as massive as a tree.

Honestly, if Goku continued to use it (stopped cause you can't use weapons in the Tenkaichi Budōkai), while the stories would probably be the same, he'd probably make a fighting style based upon it's use. Especially because we don't even know if the Pole could even be broken. But that would mean Toriyama would actually have to draw it. But I think it would have been interesting.
I think it would be useful , could be used to sweep , counter/parry/deflect physical attacks or you could just extend it and poke at your opponent to keep distance and if they grab it , either throw them by swinging it or let go of it and rush them

In the Latin American dub the Nyoi-bō was called "Sacred Staff", and Goku shouted "Grow, Sacred Staff!" whenever he wanted it to activate.
Question. Has the Power Poll ever been damaged or broken? I've never seen it happen, but I've also not seen every episode of every DB property. Because, if it is indestructible, the Power Polke could be the most dangerous weapon Goku could ever use.
To quote a great mind when it comes to weapons, Weapons are force multipliers. As long as you have a weapon that can withstand the force your exerting, the weapon will multiply whatever force you are exerting. It's not just a range increase, although that alone is a HUGE advantage, it's a damage increase. And that's all BEFORE we throw in the fact that this pole is so versatile that it can grow and shrink! Imagine that. How is an opponent supposed to have a chance against a pole you can spin and grow one side then the other, making the revolutions never touch the ground, yet still stretching out over 20 feet! Sure, I know you have to say something to usually make the thing grow or shrink, but still! Be a hell of a visual too. Hell. Goku and Piccolo might have won against Raditz all those years ago if he had used it. Even up to today. Goku swinging that little pole extended out 10 feet could probably start a tornado. With every swing!
I don't know. As long as the pole could take the force, I think it's a missed opportunity to not have it. I understand if it can't, or if Goku just doesn't want to lose it in a fight, but whatever. It'd be neat to see it used again.

I can save you a lot of time watching this. It's wedged in between corins tower and the lookout. When goku first climbed all the way to the lookout, before he could fly, he set the pole at the top and had it extend so he could climb up, and its just been there.

I don't mind Goku not using a lot of the time because hand to hand combat but I would like to see it returned. Most dragonball fighters fundamentally fight pretty similarly and adding in a few weapons would help mitigate that, and the power pole is right there and presumably indestructible (I don't remember it ever being damaged). I like other commenters idea to either give it to Goten or Pan, especially with Trunks using that sword that just kind of appeared out of nowhere. Maron (or however you spell Krillin's daughter's name) getting the nimbus also works since she's never been depicted as being able to fight and I'd like her to hang around the dragon kids because it's fun.
Also, I think we do actually see it every great once in a while connecting the lookout to corrin's tower. I think it's inconsistent but sometimes still there. Could be wrong though. Shame it's just been left so long, I understand the nimbus since flight is relatively easy but the power pole still seems undeniably useful and visually interesting.
I gotta say you're awesome and you're channel's good and all that, but, man your accents are just so spot on! Korrin, Goku, Gohan, lol all of them are so perfect.

Didn't the original legend say the pole grew harder in response to it's wielder's will? I don't think it's impossible to say it's incredibly difficult to break, if not indestructible.
I do like how Naruto did the "power pole" even closer to the original Journey To the West version with the King of Monkeys tranformation. Fits the description to a tee. Either way great video!
Read the original Dragon Ball. The Power Pole was originally what connected Korin Tower to Kamis Lookout until Korin gave it to Roshi. Then Goku returned it there when he first went to the lookout. It’s still there.
Imagine having Power pole that extends out and is the focus for the spirit bomb, but then when it's fully charged the power pole contracts to the size of a tootsie roll and all of the energy that was once spread out is now compacted into a very tiny stick... that thing would just be a bullet of death.
they should really bring back the Power Pole cause Goku is based in on Sun Wukong
The magical aspect could have been a counter for Buus magic, like slowing or stalling his regeneration. It would have been fun to see.
The Power Pole is with Upa, Bora, Launch, Eighter, and Suno on the island of the forgotten.
The phasing out of the power pole and the nimbus makes sense when you think about how DBZ moved away from the source material
Just a quick note you missed, Masako.
The reason Sun Wukong rejected the proper weapons (including swords and a multi-ton halberd) the Dragon King offered, was because they were all "too light".
Don't forget, Chi-Chi uses the Power Pole and the Nimbus as part of her arsenal in Super Dragonball Z for the PS2.
I'd like to mention that the rabbit being sent to the moon was done to reference a Japanese legend. The original Dragon Ball didn't quite have any serious plot early on, so I doubt the powerpole sending someone to the moon was properly thought out.
Sniper Stick Attack: while keeping your power level suppressed, extend the power pole a long distance at high speed to hit an opponent in a stabbing, billiard cue-like motion. Perfect for stealthily taking down guards or subordinates without attracting attention from ki blasts.
I'm imagining Goku punching or kicking his opponent and them flying for miles away, (which happens a lot) and then suddenly the power pole, massive above them when they finally stop, comes crashing down on top of their head. That would be a decent combo.

Guys, this is Toriyama. There isn't a solid, in-universe reason to stop using the power pole, he just liked drawing Goku fistfight more.

DB is the only show (not just anime) that I've ever seen that made me want to watch everything I can and ALSO learn everything I can about it. Video games have made me wanna complete 100% of it, but the dragon ball series (both cannon and non cannon) is kinda hard.
I don't think that the Nyobo would have much space in modern Dragon Ball, given the fact that is less about martial arts and more about screaming and power ups. it would be cool, though...
