Uh... I kinda already broke that "1st rule", since in the last video's comments, I brought up the question of "What if Fake Namek was the real Namek? Or, that the two were one in the same?" Guess I'm one of those select few who actually liked Fake Namek, since that mini-arc was one of my earliest cognant impressions of DBZ back during the original Saban Dub (so needless to say, I honestly thought it was the real Namek). I also like Garlic Jr. to be honest, and is one of my favorite villains after Cooler, Janemba, Super Buu, and recently Freeza, since Toriyama took the time to make him relevant again (outside of the meme of how easy he became to deal with post Namek/Freeza saga).

There's been a concept that I always thought could be a very interesting what-if, but no matter how you look at it, the execution to make that change happen would probably be utter garbage. People always wonder what if Future Trunks stayed in the past but I kind of want to take it further. What if as a last resort, Future Trunks tried to save his world by bringing most, if not all of Earth's survivors with him to the past?
It could be as temporary as the Cell Saga or last well into Super with Zamasu or the Tournament of Power. Just write it so Future Bulma made a giant time machine or use the Dragon Balls to duplicate Trunk's machine. Now the Dragon Ball world has doppelgangers who have 20 years of future knowledge, including people like Future Bulma and whatnot. It would provide a unique opportunity for character development, yet it's still limited by the fact that the Future Z warriors aren't in this world. With Future Trunks there for 7 years, the Buu saga could potentially be very different. Beerus' motivation for destroying the planet during Battle of Gods could be because Earth broke the time travel rules and frankly I kind of like motivation that more than "Buu ate my pudding."
It's not perfect, but I still find the concept interesting.
But that would make Black the king of Trunks' original timeline! By the time the Future Trunks arc should take place Zamas became and unstoppable universe-consuming force. Thus, Zeno-sama will have to "erase" the universe of the Z-Fighters we know and love. And they can't run into the time machine to Trunks' original timeline because Zamas already posses total control over it, so you will end with two universes wiped out and the Z-Fighters nowhere.
Could do since there's a new namek that trunks didn't remember since he was a baby at the time of Goku going back to earth before namek saga. When trunks went gathered Vegeta he would refuse so he ask Goku with the androids in future being weaker then the past Goku be on a even playing field like future Gohan was but with trunks helping Goku they would beat #17&18 then trunks takes Goku back to the past and tells him about new namek so trunks goes back to the future then goes to namek wish for piccolo Gohan then teleports back to earth gather 7 dragon balls then wish for people that died by the androids so everyone comes back alive but Goku doesn't since he died by the heart virus.
Not a bad ideia, but I don't think Trunks would give up on his world that easily… If it happened during the Androids I feel like Trunks wouldn't want to run away, because of Future Gohan… And during the Black Saga, he probably would be a little pissed of at Black for killing Bulma
But Masako, what if the Dragon Ball community and online fandom was kept alive almost entirely by what-ifs ever since GT ended nearly 2 decades ago???
And what if they've already gotten very good at writing fanfiction over all those years?!
Sure, when Masako writes fanfic, he gets thousands of RUclips views and a convention panel, but when I do it...I actually get pretty good traction considering what it is and I can't really complain.

5:20 yeah, I do the exact opposite with my fanfiction. I’ve planned the plot about 20 years ahead. It works well enough, but sometimes I get uber writers block because I can’t see the trees for the forest
after planning on starting my own what if video series, seeing this and reaffirming that my planning process was on point after I've analyzed your work (which was a huge inspiration for me to start this), and toriyama's writing style in DBZ. i'm actually getting excited about starting this thing
I have recently found this video and I would like to thank you very much Masako for this video as well as your constant thrilling and fascinating What Ifs.
I have written down a what if myself, though not Dragon Ball. It was Kingdom Hearts actually. It was What If Riku Never Turned to the Darkness. It delved in that Riku never got tempted by the darkness and did become the chosen keyblade wielder at the start of the first game. I won't go into too much detail, but it did give a nice set up with both Riku and Sora starting off in the same world together and the journey continued. It was like a small change that chained into a massive different end result in story telling.
Theory craft is one of the most wonderful parts of youtube, one of the largest imo that is greatly entertaining, next to lets play, fun facts, discussion, review and narrative.
I just wanted to write a quick love letter, man you killed it with episode 60 of DBZA and i just wanted to say that we( me especially) love you and your work, your talent and dedication. Despite the series being a parody you managed to capture an intensity that not even the og did and placed alot of us back in the seats of our younger selves as we first watched the arc come to an end and experienced those feeling raw. As a hard boiled gohan fan boi I'm so happy that you put so much life into his character and displayed him in a light which i feel alot of DBZ fans felt should've happened in the universal survival act in DBS, hes always been different from all the other sayains, he wasn't meant to be a fighter which explains his degradation through the entire story into a disappointing place holder but for him to take such a conflicting role forced into him so easily felt bland and you did justice in displaying that struggle and for once we actually got to see goku act like a father to the boy which is something that you never really see in all adaptations in this depth.

Please never stop being you.
Yeah, I can attest that What If's are pretty tough without a guideline. I've been writing a What If where Raditz is accompanied by Turles when he went to recruit Goku. Sometimes, I write myself into a corner. Other times, people try to throw their logic or arguments with how some things aren't "right". But Masako makes a great point - the point of a What If isn't to ram it with logic and such, it's to entertain. Sure some things are off, but if my readers are entertained, then I'm happy.
This is actually really helpful to someone like me who has started doing what ifs as well on a new channel. It's actually teqllu cool because me and Masako seem to be employing relatively similar strategies when forming these videos.
I'd say the major difference is how I decide scenarios and I usually do so by applying multiverse theory and taking the next logical step in terms of other possibilities after we've seen the original timeline and outcome.
Ideas like What if Piccolo didn't take Gohan and Master Roshi trained the kid or What if Goku joined Raditz flow from this method. After that I simply fill in the blanks like Masako said!
Thanks for doing a video like this masako a lot of people say that bigger channels are never willing to helpout the smaller ones but I think you've definitely done that here!

What if the Nameless Namekian stayed fused but was able to conquer his evil nature?
11:09 I'm mostly just imagining Freiza leaving, going to train, then coming back to fight, probably around the Cell Arc. Which could either be interesting (Freiza hasn't trained enough to go gold, and he's just involved in the Cell Tournament Arc. Bonus points if he ended up killing Goku and Gohan BEFORE hand, and the Cell games is a competition of "Who gets to blow up the planet") or just one sided (Golden freiza blows up everyone then leaves).
Other than that, I do love the idea of What-ifs. Its interesting to see what other directions the author could've taken, or how other people interpret the series. I think theres alot of potential for them.
What if in Jojo Part 2, Ceaser survived? Jojo saves him from Wamuu but he's too injured to fight Kars. He would be a character in Part 3, and maybe he'd even have a stand or an off spring. What if Deku learned One-for-all Cowling at the start? As in, he couldn't exert 100% of OFA's power right at the start, and could only use a very small part of it? How would he pass the entrance exams? How would he have saved Uraraka, and how would she have passed? Stuff like that is really fun to think about.
So .. What if Goku Married Caulifla? It would be interesting to see your version XD
So, you're thinking Goku divorces his wife, whom he has two kids with, for some ho from another universe. Yeah, sure, bud.

I've been pondering what-ifs, and creating OC's since I was a kid. I never had the guts to share most of my stories, but it is always fun to write.
Dragonball is a particular favorite of mine because it's easy mode. Like you said, the nuance of dragonball is not that deep. Plus, there are in-universe ways of changing unfavorable plot points in the main or fanfiction timelines. The titular dragonballs being the biggest reality changer of them all.

Example:
I have two that focuses on Lisanna taking a more proactive role in the story. In both she isn't in Edolas so she's the main character with Natsu, Happy, Lucy, Gray, and Erza. While she's not in Edolas, her two arcs are about the past and moving forward
-Redeluxe version, she has a scar from Beast Mode Elfman as a sign as she doesn't want to be that girl anymore from two years ago. And she chews Natsu out for taking the S class quest without her knowing.
A Different Fairy Tail version, I started this before certain plot stuff but same story but Sting is a member of Fairy Tail and Natsu's brother in a way.
I do not hate Fairy Tail and I don't see myself better than Hiro

What If, I, Kathy Prior 42, gave you all some additional advice?
MasakoX's "What If's" are basically a combination of his ideas and the ideas of other creators presented in verbal fanfiction format. (whether it is presented in a logical way, entertaining way, or tragic way is up to the writer). MasakoX's videos have inspired me, as a writer, to come up with alternate scenarios for fun in many shows and movies. If you can:
1. Write decent fanfiction about DBZ (know the minds and personalities of the characters you're working with)
(Hint: You don't have to only do a "what if the villain turned good" concept)
2. Use a good balance between implementing the original story line and adding other dialogue or scenes
3. Edit, edit and edit some more (on our own or with a peer)
4. Present your ideas in a video (or on a blog if you prefer)
5. Pay attention to compliments and learn from constructive feedback
... you, too, can "What If!"
I know it’s been 2 Years, but this video has helped me to write my “What if Dr Gero turned good” storyline!

But anyway solid video, very engaging and well laid out, I love what ifs and have a ton of shorts written out across the internet, and some of yours have really re-sparked my creativity.
Lesson 1. There is no Fake Namek, moving on.
Lesson 2. There is no Garlic Jr. saga, moving on.
Lesson 3. Trunk's timeline remains unaltered from the original source material… *because reasons.*
I think the best way to show your appreciation for a show is to tear it to pieces, because if nothing else you demonstrate that you're not "possessed" by it, so to speak; not a brainless fanboy who doesn't even understand his obsession enough to justify to other people why he likes it so much.
What ifs fall into this general vicinity, but they tend to entertain things more from an internal perspective rather than an external critical perspective that compares Dragon Ball to other anime.
If you really love someone, you don't try to take their problems away from them because you deprive them from being able to take care of themselves. Instead, you encourage them to be the their best, which very often requires you to be up front about where they need to improve.
It's the same thing with shows you like. If you can't be honest about where your favorite TV is letting you down, you're crippling it in the long run. In some sense, this makes it incumbent upon you to make your opinion as informed and objective as possible, which is why I find it so detestable when MasakoX tells lies (and *knows it*) on the unspoken pretense that he's doing Toei and Shieisha a favor if only because it makes the intro to this video stink of even more dishonesty.
A few years ago, I had several ideas for What-Ifs, but they were never realized. I think I'm gonna revisit the ideas and work a little on them.
I have i hole book with my own what if's and I started because of you and Broku72.And eventually I wrote a story back in June and I am still writing it now.

Hey Masako I think you SHOULD do a “What If” Frieza took the energy from Goku and survived. There’s a bit where King Cold and Cooler could turn on him and he has to turn to the Z fighters for help. I have a few good plots to thicken this story
"What If Goku Married Bulma" and "What If Gine Went To Earth With Goku" are my favorite of your What-If series. I'm still holding out for a surprise that Vegeta married Launch and had a child in the former. And Bardock eventually popping up in the latter.
Here are some interesting What-If pairings I'd like to see: Goten x Caulifla and Trunks x Kale. And I know this isn't Dragon Ball, but I'd love to see a fleshed out "What If Hinata Joined Team 7 (instead of Sakura)".

This is pretty insightful. And on the subject of What-Ifs, here’s one that might be pique your interest: What if Goku lived in the city growing up instead of Mt.Paozu like the original series?

I noticed a common theme with your What Iffery. Whenever someone new comes in, (Raditz, Nappa or Gine) they tend to replace Vegeta and he takes a back seat or is killed off altogether.

Oh snap I was just talking about the redeemability of Frieza actually on a earlier vid of yours. Frieza accepting his second chance from Goku is really compelling to me. I like the thought of him becoming a hermit terrified of the capabilities of Super Saiyans. Even though he's a genocidal tyrant Frieza being redeemed is definitely a possibility. Even though he did it to save his own skin, Frieza willingly allied himself with Universe 7's team during the tournament of power. He didn't commit to double crossing them during the final moments, Frieza even got creepily sentimental when gaving Goku his energy. If Vegeta ended up allying himself with the Z Fighters against Frieza and the Ginyu force, a bigger threat, to save his hide, and he ended up redeemed, Frieza is capable of doing the same, allying with the Z Fighters against the Androids, Cell, Majin Buu and beyond. (It's an honest possibility in canon with Broly once he goes beserk. It seems stale that Frieza would try to kill the z Fighters for a 5th time. Smells like a Chekhov's gun with him saying he'd never be good, could be a curveball that he would turn over a new leaf this time. It wouldn't be the first time someone was bashful rejecting their redemption, looking at you Vegeta & Piccolo.) Oh god imagine if Vegeta heard Goku spared Frieza, while as an Super Saiyan no less, Vegeta would train vigorously to achieve his Super Saiyan transformation and go on revenge driven murder spree in the attempt of ridding the universe of Frieza and his army, regardless if Frieza disbanded the army or not. What if King Cold disowns Frieza because of his cowardice and the fact he doesn't want to get involved with Super Saiyans. Imagine, after being disowned, Future Frieza planning a solo attack on Earth so he can overthrow it and make profit closer to the time when Android 17 and 18 appear because he's no longer able to sense Goku or Vegeta's ki and he isn't aware of the Androids because they don't have power levels, only to be forced into allying with Future Trunks against the Androids because he's crushed by them and he doesn't want to die alone on some backwater planet. Future Frieza after spending years allied with Trunks, the only living Saiyan and rightful heir to the Saiyan throne as King, he goes back in time to stop the Android threat, and imagine the humble and regretful conversations he'd have with Present Frieza & Future Trunks, knowing that Goku died from the heart virus after he spared his life. Imagine the interaction he'd have with Present Frieza and Cell. He'd be terrified if he witnessed the same level of naivety & violence in mirrors of himself. Imagine Frieza willingly wishing back Planet Vegeta and the Saiyan race to guiltingly appease Goku & Vegeta, being all smug about it and sticking in their face, "YOU'RE WELCOME, YOUR EXTRAVAGANT LORD FRIEZA HAS RELINQUISHED LIFE & FREEDOM TO ALL THESE POOR MONKEYS. SAY YOUR WELCOME."
I can also see Piccolo because Nail's influence on him and that fact he doesn't want much to do with Kami, leaving Earth to defend Planet Namek if Frieza ever returns. Leaving Gohan out of having him as a mentor after that. Piccolo could further fuse with the Namekians to increase his strength, which could lead to him helping against the Androids if he can make it back to Earth, and if he can survive, considering the fact Kami would definitely be targeted and killed by the Androids.

Actually I was always thinking about “What if scenario” for Cui.
A lot people will think he is not that special to give them an alternative story, but I was for some reason fascinated about him.
I like the way he is the rival of Vegeta and he did know about certain things for names but the soldiers of Frieza are that stereotype.
If there is someone you could use it, it would be Ginyu and he is more potential for a character development.

Here is interesting what if scenario which I haven't named yet. This requires Cooler to be in the story.
Those are events that occurred in this Dark Universe between end of Dragon Ball and Raditz+Goku deaths in original DBZ:
1) King Cold dies due to some disease.
2)Tensions between two brothers begins.
3) Start of conflict between Frieza's and Cooler's forces.
4) Raditz arrives to earth, but his ship was detected by Cooler's henchman earlier.
5) Basically bunch of events happens leading to Goku's, Raditz and most Z fighters deaths.
6) Gohan is kidnapped and forced to join Cooler's forces.
Huh... I thought of one that would have been very different from the original dragon ball. What if Goku lost his fighting spirit when he hit his head? Well, he’d probably still learn martial arts since grandpa gohan was the one raising him. He’d probably be less inclined to fight a foe, preferring to talk. He still help turtle and meet Roshi, but wouldn’t be interested after getting the dragon ball. Goku would still be incredibly powerful, but still weak by saiyan standards. He wouldn’t pick fights he doesn’t want to fight. He’d probably be like Gohan after coming to terms with the fact he needs to fight now and then. Fighting an enemy is more a necessity than a desire. Yeah this is definitely not the character we know as Goku, but the Goku we know is a friendly but aggressive fighter because he’s a saiyan that hit his head, pacified(mostly) and still wanted to fight. I’m asking what happens if he doesn’t want to.
So... What if Goku turned good?

Hey Masoko, here is a 'What if' Idea: What If Mai And Trunks Stayed In The Present. Because Beerus could destroy their time machine or something like that and that's how that one could start and it would definitely change the tournament of powers.
Basically Trunks would train with Vegeta and/or Gohan, probably evolve from SSjRage into SSjBlue and replace Freeza in the ToP.

Hmm I have a what if on my mind that I want to explore a bit and I believe it could work out somewhat and that would be what if captain Ginyu became good wouldn't require much change in the story just a tweek in captain Ginyu's decision of taking Goku's offer or not and then a idea can pop in my head

What if Goku turned Super Saiyan with the energy of the spirit bomb? The premise is Freeza instead of gloating while charging a death ball after being blasted by Krillin and Gohan, instantly kills Krillin, and threatens Gohan. (this means Piccolo isn't down for the count) Goku in a fit of rage temporarily loses reason and launches the bomb, Freeza notices and tries to blast it, only making it stronger, then realizes it isn't aimed at him, "What is he doing, committing suicide?" Goku absorbs the bomb and goes Super Saiyan. The result, Freeza isn't injured and can last longer in his 100% but Goku would be even stronger than the main story fight. What next? Would this affect the Cyborg saga?

Not gonna lie...I want to make a "what if" based on your "what ifs". The difference being a Cascade effect that causes more than 1 of your "what ifs" to happen simultaneously.
The ultimate what if that combines the best parts of masako's what ifs = Goku with Bulma, Raditz and Nappa turn good, Bernie is elected and Gohan becomes the protagonist.

Interesting. I was thinking of my What if “ Goten being born first but not as a super saiyan but was raised with the attitude chichi had after goku died. Training him and allowing him to fight but then this leads into gohan being born later because Goten and goku are always away.

Gotta love me some what-ifs, I don't even remember what the Dragon Ball canon even looks like anymore (although admittedly neither does Toriyama if Dragon Ball Minus is any indicator).
Something I thought could be absolutely bonkers ridiculous. What if crossovers with dragonball impacted the story? So if a promotional crossover with another anime or manga had a lasting impact and characters from two stories interacted throughout the Canon. This would be too massive an undertaking sure but it'd be neat
Y’know, I actually have a dragonball based dnd that starts right after the 23rd world martial arts tournament. Essentially it’s a a what if scenario everytime because I start it out different for every character. For instance, the first one that was ever played Goku forreal died in the tournament against piccolo. Another one piccolo in his just outright crazed self decided to attack anything to prompt Goku to fight him at no holds barred (this was in his giant form btw) and ended up incinerating parts of the Crowd and yamcha (rest in pieces) and all of the fighters in the tournament ganging up on piccolo as he’d gone mad and tien kinda ended up dying in said process. I realize that this isn’t really a what if as they are other people’s characters that come into the story rather than the original, but, I thought it was a cool thing.

funnily enough, i was just starting to think about doing some what-if videos of my own, directly inspired by yours :) it wouldn't have been for Dragon Ball, though, since i think you've pretty well covered that ;) i was thinking more "Marvel/DC reversal" and "alternate Star Wars". just tons of alternate fiction--all of it was originally just fluff for an allohistory project that i'm working on, but writing it is just so much fun! :D
